Questions about Spiritual Work—213

263Question: How can we begin to derive pleasure in the ten from truth and not just from what is clothed in a lie?

Answer: Pray, ask. We have no other means.

Question: What does it mean to acquire “clothing” for pleasure, and how can we do this?

Answer: The clothing for pleasure is the reflected light, which is obtained through working with the screen. Therefore, the first step is to acquire the screen.

Question: The intention to bestow is built over the desire to receive, but the essence of the desire to receive remains. Thus, intention exists as a thought and thought serves desire, the essence of which is only reception. Then how does the desire to bestow awaken?

Answer: The desire to bestow awakens gradually. It comes from the Creator, through the group, and from the friends.

Question: How does intention differ from the Creator’s light?

Answer: Intention exists in us only in potential, within the desire, but not yet in its realization.

Question: Why would a spirit place itself in the confined space of matter?

Answer: So that the person in whom this spirit resides would desire to attain the Creator.

The Highest Reward

243.01Question: Praying for a friend lifts a person above their body and frees them from egoism. Engaging in prayer for a friend feels like the highest reward. However, my ego puts up a wall in front of me that prevents me from entering this prayer, and it insists that I am unworthy. What should I do in this case?

Answer: What does it matter whether you are worthy or not. You simply desire to enter this state, and that’s it.

Even if you have not earned this reward, demand it anyway. None of us have earned anything. Absolutely nothing. That applies to everyone. So just demand it.

What Determines the Quality of the Ten?

528.03Question: When we say, “We are building a home for the Creator,” what is the measure of personal responsibility in this action and the measure of responsibility of everyone in the ten? Are they equivalent, or is everything based on personal responsibility?

Answer: It all depends on the quality of the ten. We must accept our states as revealed in us by the Creator for which we must rise and account to Him, that is, address Him at the level of these states.

Question: What determines the quality of the ten?

Answer: The quality of the ten depends only on the following components: how seriously the friends take their work, how much they strive to get closer to the Creator through it, how much they want to join the Creator to help Him. And He will help them, and together they jointly create a tremendous spiritual structure, one for all.

Love and Awe

947Question: What kind of work is “return from awe” and “return from love” in the ten?

Answer: With return from awe, a person is in awe of the Creator and wants to reveal the same state in his friends.

And return from love is when one feels love for the Creator and wants all his feelings, thoughts, and intentions to be imbued with this feeling.

Awe is the first property. Love comes later because love for the Creator is an immense, unlimited feeling for Him as the source of everything in us—what we feel, experience, and think.

Question: What should I do if I discover I have no awe yet?

Answer: Strive to connect with your friends, and you will convey these feelings to each other. You must work on it together and constantly expand and deepen this feeling, and infect others with it.

At the Beginning of the Spiritual Path

599.02Comment: Sometimes very well-prepared people join our group, those who have gone through MAK (the Russian Language Kabbalah Academy). However, they still have a very strong left line, but they are so “on fire” with our idea, they want everything to be perfect, for the group to grow, and they impose a lot of demands.

My Response: Yes, this is understandable. But the thing is, their demands might be unrealistic.

We are dealing with a human being. And a human is the most disgusting, the most egoistic, creature in our world. We know from our own experience how much effort it takes to deal with ourselves, to at least partially fit into certain frameworks.

Especially when we talk about the need to rise above ourselves, to restrict all our desires and intentions, and to start clothing ourselves in a completely different nature—the opposite one: instead of Malchut, Bina; instead of ourselves, the Creator.

A person—Adam—comes from the word “Domeh,” which means similar to the Creator. That is, to the extent that our qualities become similar to those of the Creator, we become Adam, a human. Until then, we are the most terrible animals.

I understand that newcomers are “on fire.” We were on fire too. But the thing is, this fire needs to be placed within certain boundaries. They need to understand what they are dealing with. This is not easy at all.

After all, “understanding” in Kabbalah means that people begin to feel internal changes within themselves, to work with them, and to sense how much they resist these changes.

A Ladder Meant for Everyone

41.01Question: It is said that the ladder (Malchut) is set upon the earth, and the rulers of all nations ascend and descend on it. What does this mean?

Answer: It means that the ladder of spiritual ascent is meant for everyone. All who wish to draw closer to the Creator must master the process of ascending it.

Question: How can one reach Malchut to begin ascending the spiritual ladder?

Answer: We strive to determine where we stand in relation to this ladder and work with it in such a way that we are constantly ascending.

Question: How can this be defined within the tens?

Answer: It does not matter. Wherever you are, you must imagine how you can ascend while bringing joy to the Creator through the results of your efforts.
