“Teen Violence Gaining Momentum In The US”

Dr. Michael LaitmnaIn the News (from The Voice of Russia): “The US police have begun a round-up of participants in the popular teenage game ‘Knockout.’ Its task is to ‘cold cock’ a passer-by in one blow. The main condition is that the victim must be a white person. But it is exclusively African Americans and immigrants from Latin America who are carrying out these attacks. More and more teenagers are becoming involved in the game thanks in no small part to the Internet and social networks.

“Similar incidents occur in different cities and states across America: St. Louis, Syracuse, Washington DC, and the state of New Jersey. Policemen say that the dangerous game is spreading throughout the United States like a virus. And social networks are only warming up public interest. Such behavior of adolescents is a consequence of the position the majority of African Americans have in American society, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vilen Ivanov believes.

“’Such outbursts of violence, including with the use of weapons, became frequent, and often this violence is wanton. And we cannot say that these facts are inspired by someone. It is a spontaneous expression of discontent at the teenage level.’

“However, there is another explanation, expert of the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis Vladimir Fainzilberg believes. In his opinion, the main reason for the increasing aggression of adolescents lies in imposing strict limits and norms of behavior on them, as well as in restriction of freedom for security purposes.

“’Of course, this creates a negative impact on the psyche of young people. It makes them nervous and provokes the use of weapons. Moreover, nowadays there are numerous computer games also based on the use of arms and exaltation of the identity of those who possess it. This forms a certain world outlook among the American youth.’

“According to the expert, mass media and cinematography also exert enormous influence on formation of opinions and behavior of adolescents.”

My Comment: So far, our egoism dominates us so much that we cannot contradict it, even against common sense. If even at home we cannot prevent our children from viewing violence and base programs, if the society and the state allow the media to be as they are, then the problem is not the youth, but the adult population; so maybe fear that you could be “cold cocked” will affect and bring to the correct decision: to ban harmful media.

I think that destructive consequences of egoistic development of society will accumulate until it no longer can exist and only at the last moment before its self-destruction, will it see the light and accept the method of integral education and upbringing. To prevent this from happening in such a tragic way, a broad explanatory work is required.

Fighting Against Social Inequality Is Futile…

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Boris Johnson, London Mayor): “Mr Johnson used a speech in tribute to Margaret Thatcher to argue that tackling economic inequality is ‘futile’ because some people’s IQ is too low for them to compete. … But his most controversial comments came when he said globalisation was intensifying the trend towards inequality.

“Mr Johnson said: ‘I am afraid that violent economic centrifuge is operating on human beings who are already very far from equal in raw ability, if not spiritual worth.

“‘Whatever you may think of the value of IQ tests, it is surely relevant to a conversation about equality that as many as 16 per cent of our species have an IQ below 85, while about 2 per cent have an IQ above 130. …

“‘I stress I don’t believe that economic equality is possible. Indeed, some measure of inequality is essential for the spirit of envy and keeping up with the Joneses that is, like greed, a valuable spur to economic activity.’

“He called for the creation of a new generation of grammar schools to help the brightest children from poor homes.”

My Comment: This is true in an egoistic society, but in an altruistic society, everything becomes equal because everyone gives to the best of his natural abilities and receives, regardless of giving, to the extent of his natural needs.

A Caring Society

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Library): “Every person aspires to a good life. But what does ‘a good or a better life’ mean? The second edition of How’s Life? provides an update on the most important aspects that shape people’s lives and well-being: income, jobs, housing, health, work-life balance, education, social connections, civic engagement and governance, environment, personal security and subjective well-being. It paints a comprehensive picture of well-being in OECD countries and other major economies, by looking at people’s material living conditions and quality of life across the population.

“Humans are social creatures. The frequency of our contact with others and the quality of our personal relationships are thus crucial determinants of our well-being. Helping others can also make you happier. People who volunteer tend to be more satisfied with their lives than those who do not. Time spent volunteering also contributes to a healthy civil society.” Source: OECD Australia

My Comment: At all times people determined their state relative to their environment. But it was always different for everyone and there was never full satisfaction.

The reason for this is in the feeling of fulfillment: If it occurs in the egoistic desire for oneself, then there is no limit in this, and if it is in the desire to fulfill the other, the loved one, then satisfaction is achieved by feeling one’s action, reciprocity, and does not depend on the size of fulfillment. Only in the corrected society, will a person be able to feel confident and satisfied.

The Population’s Poverty Threatens Israel With Disaster

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Radio “The Voice of Russia”): “Despite the country’s economic growth and low unemployment rate of 6.5 percent, the number of poor people in Israel is growing; there are more poor children in Israel than in any other developed country; a third of Israelis cannot afford to heat their apartment in winter or cool it in summer; 40 percent had to forgo dentist visits, and 15 percent failed to purchase medications.

“Israeli sociologists warn that the middle class is experiencing a difficult situation and finding it more difficult to survive. Anyone in the country can find himself out of work and livelihood: hidden unemployment, rising credit card debt, high housing prices could lead to financial disaster.”

My Comment: With the example of Israel, you can see firsthand how it is necessary to implement universal education of the population towards its unification, only in this will it be possible to solve all the problems of society and show an example for the entire world.

We Are At The Beginning Of The Transition Period

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Giulietto Chiesa, Italian journalist and politician, former member of the European Parliament): “We are at the beginning of the transition period, which has no precedent in history. The history of the last three centuries comes to an end. Today it is clear that all the planet’s resources are almost exhausted. Therefore, all our realities, all of what we are used to will change; the civilization of money will end.

“It is really a global crisis. We have changed the course of nature.

“It is necessary to realize that the old democracy is dying; half of the population does not go to the polls; we need to create a new movement from below under the banner of self-restraint, to change ourselves and our lifestyle.

“But even those who could limit himself do not think about this because we are manipulated. People are turned into instruments of purchase. The brains of the majority are controlled. We live for the market; it dictates our actions to us. We are not free people. The media are silent about this, but they tell us what we should buy, that our scale of values is purchasing power. The media exists because of advertising and that is why they have to be nationalized. It is also necessary to nationalize all the banks that issue money; otherwise we lose control over money.”

My Comment: Everything is correct, except for one: no changes can be done without integral education because people do not believe in the possibility of change. We have to show them by what means you are going to change society. Otherwise the worsening of the crisis will lead to world war.

Expensive Whims Of Nature

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from RBC Daily): “An unexpected change in usual climatic conditions, a sharp cooling or warming, brings businesses higher losses than the most serious natural disasters.

“The annual damage of weather whims costs EU companies over 400 billion euros. Losses from about 900 natural disasters in 2012 were only 126 billion euros.”

My Comment: The amplitude of climatic changes will increase, the losses will grow, and then problems at the level of the still, vegetative, and animate nature will start. And there will be no protection from them… Salvation is only in the likeness of the human being with nature, attaining the property of bestowal, and connection. This can be achieved only by implementing the method of integral education for the general population.

A New Type Of Boredom

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from The Independent): “There’s a lot more to being bored than you might think, if new research is to be believed.

“Science has known about four types of boredom for a while now, but a team of international scientists have now built on their research and discovered a fifth, “especially unpleasant” form of tedium.

“Dubbed ‘apathetic boredom,’ it elicits a feeling of learned helplessness similar to depression.

“According to the scientists, led by Dr Thomas Goetz of the University of Konstanz in Germany, boredom can be categorised by levels of arousal (ranging from ‘calm’ to ‘fidgety’), and how positive or negative boredom is experienced – its ‘valence.’

“Previously, it was thought that people could suffer from ‘indifferent boredom,’ in which people felt withdrawn but relaxed; ‘calibrating boredom,’ a feeling of uncertainty in which people are receptive to but do not seek out change; ‘searching boredom,’ which is restless and pursues distraction; and ‘reactant boredom,’ wherein people are motivated to leave their situation for a specific change.

“Goetz, his colleague Anne Frenzel, and a team of fellow researchers conducted two studies among 63 German university students and 80 German high school learners. …

“Apathetic boredom was reported in slightly more than a third of the high school students – a fact the researchers found ‘alarming.’”

My Comment: This is a transition period from the egoistic lifestyle, with its natural energy, search, and competition aimed at obtaining at the expense of others, to the altruistic lifestyle of society, with its energy, exploration, and competition aimed at bestowal unto society and getting the fulfillment of the whole society.

By 2018 Robots Will Replace Office Workers

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Andrew Anderson, CEO of Celaton, an artificial intelligence firm): “Many of us already rely heavily on technology for everyday tasks, but the very technology we need to get through the day could soon be after our jobs – and the shift could happen much faster than we think.

“Claims made by an expert in artificial intelligence predict that in less than five years, office jobs will disappear completely to the point where machines will replace humans.

“The idea that robots will one day be able to do all low-skilled jobs is not new, but Andrew Anderson, CEO of UK artificial intelligence company Celaton, said the pace of advance is much faster than originally thought.

“‘I’m afraid it’s now a reality that most clerical workers will disappear. This has profound implications for jobs of course, but huge technological advancements are being made all the time and artificial intelligence (AI) has now become very sophisticated to the extent that it can think and learn like a human,’ he said.

“AI, for example, can carry out labour intensive clerical tasks quickly and automatically, while the latest models are also capable of making decision that would traditionally be made by humans.

“‘[AI] can read and understand the meaning of entire documents by learning the patterns of words and phrases in context. It’s this ability to learn – and learn from the natural consequence of processing documents – that is minimising the need for clerical workers to carry out these repetitive tasks.

“‘The fact that a machine can not only carry out these tasks, but constantly learn how to do it better and faster, means clerical workers are no longer needed in the vast quantities they once were.’

“For example, a machine can recognise duplicate claims filed to insurance companies by knowing it has seen a phone number or an address before.

“More importantly, whenever human intervention is required, AI learns from this and therefore further reduces the dependency on clerical workers. …

“Machines can significantly increase productivity and therefore reduce costs. They can improve customer service, compliance, scale and efficiency. …

“By 2025, machines will be able to learn, adjust, exercise judgement, and re-programme themselves.

“‘The hardest hit would be professionals working in sales, education, healthcare, IT, management, finance and law – knowledge-based jobs, where analytics tools, mobile internet devices, apps or web-based services such as the cloud can be developed to outperform humans.’”

My Comment: Would it not be simpler to come immediately to a new organization of society and labor, keeping only the professions necessary for our existence, gradually reducing all the unnecessary ones, and creating a social basis for a new development of society where instead of the previous work, people are busy changing themselves and society.

They are provided with everything necessary for rational existence, but for eight hours a day they have to study the nature of humans, society, and the world in order to lead human beings to the property of bestowal and love for the other, and humanity to a society of justice and equality. After all, the natural development of society will nonetheless lead us to this, but only by a long path of searching and suffering.

A Profound Change Of Our Perspective

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe have to show the whole world that there is no other science except for the wisdom of Kabbalah and no perception of reality that provides any answers to the current reality in which every aspect of our life is in a state of crisis. It is the wisdom of Kabbalah that provides the right approach through which you acquire the proper tools necessary for our development.

All the old tools and the means we had are useless today and only lead to confusion. It is simply impossible to advance using them. Physics, for example, is an accurate and true science that helps us benefit from the laws of nature. But we cannot use it to advance any further.

At this stage we need new means, and the wisdom of Kabbalah provides them and allows us to be equipped with them. This means that in order to make another step forward on the path of our evolution, we need to change our paradigm, our basic approach, to adapt to the new conditions.

Before people believed that they paved the way themselves, although it is actually the Light that fulfills everything. Now, however, we have to adapt to the new conditions and new states even if they appear against our will. Today we have to fix the connection between the vessels, and so we speak about the integral education.

On the other hand, the earlier philosophic perception is outdated. We have to show people that any approach that is not based on real attainment cannot be used, and it actually leads us to suffering and prolongs the troubles. Any perspective that postpones the attainment of the Creator brings us many troubles.

This refers to all of the religions too, since they promise a reward after death: “die and you will receive, but work now.”

We, on the other hand, say the opposite: “You shall see your world in your lifetime.” The wisdom of Kabbalah is about the revelation of the Creator to a person here in this world.

There is nothing spiritual after death. We pass away just like the animals that we slaughter, because we are on the animate level of evolution. I I don’t ascend and don’t fulfill my Reshimot (spiritual genes), and don’t develop the human level from my Reshimo, I remain a Reshimo. I have to fulfill my Reshimo by the Light that Reforms, and to bring my Reshimo to a state of the spiritual vessel in which I reveal the Creator.

Thus we refute all the philosophic perceptions and the beliefs that humanity has created for itself. Our work is not abstract; we work for the revelation. This is what a person is faced with today. We have to reveal the Creator, here and now.

So everyone will hate the wisdom of Kabbalah since it is in contrast to any animal logic a person has and the traditional ideas of reward for one’s exertion after death…

Locusts Change Memory By Joining The Swarm

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from the University of Leicester): “Research from Universities of Leicester, Sussex and Cambridge into desert locusts discovers how your environment shapes your thinking. …

“Desert locusts are notorious for their devastating swarms. However, they do not always live in swarms — they switch between a lone living ‘solitary phase’ and a swarming ‘gregarious’ phase. The two phases differ profoundly in looks, behaviour and in their life style. …

“Solitary locusts rely on camouflage to evade predators, and they avoid eating toxic plants; but gregarious locusts eat these plants to ‘impregnate’ themselves with toxins to deter predators. The transformation to gregarious behaviour, which happens when solitary locusts are forced together into a crowd, is complete within a few hours. …

“As Dr. Ott explains: “Desert locusts aggregate into swarms when they run out of food — the crowding is driven by hunger and competition for the last few plants in the desert. They are pretty desperate when they transform into the gregarious phase, so they will give the toxic plants another try. And because they can no longer form aversive memories, any food is now rewarding and they form the new ‘correct’ appetitive memory with the odour. This is how they re-train themselves to eat the toxic plants.’”

My Comment: These examples of nature are illustrative because they clearly show that a unification of individuals into a community changes everyone’s nature, giving everyone new qualities, which would not be manifested in one alone. That is, an individual, as one, and unity of individuals into a whole one have different levels of development and different natures. Unity acquires a higher order, moreover, so different that food and environments previously poisonous for an individual become healthy…
