In order to be considered a group, you must study together, form together, and help each other. There are certain conditions for the connection of individual egoists into a group where they commit to begin to annul their egoism and slowly unite. Not just to give in to each other, but to help each other.

This is a whole communication system of ten individuals who must sacrifice themselves relative to others. Then they could form an organization of such a team in which they will annul their egoism. And in this corrected egoism, the Creator will reveal Himself in the equivalence of His qualities relative to the qualities of the group.

Question: How do we not see things critically, but give our heart and mind completely to the ten?

Answer: This is only with the help of friends. If you are united with them, then you will achieve the quality of bestowal, because to the extent that you annul yourself before a friend, you call the upper light upon yourself, and it forms you.

Question: We say that there is none else besides Him and that the Creator does everything. At the same time, we say that we create Him by our mutual inclusion. Is it the same Creator or do we just lack the words to designate two different forces?

Answer: These are different manifestations of the upper force. The first manifestation is when the Creator builds, makes, and creates, and there is none else besides Him. The second is when we manifest the Creator in relation to ourselves and talk about the measures, steps, possibilities, and means of attaining Him.

This is completely different since we are already grading Him into levels, steps, and talking about the Creator: the light of Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, Yechida, and so on, at what levels, in what properties we perceive Him.

This is not the upper light that created us, but its various parts, which we, to the extent of our similarity to the upper light, snatch from it, feel, and reveal.

But, in principle, there is only one source—the upper light. On one hand, it is how He affects us and on the other hand, how we partially comprehend Him in our Kelim (vessels), to the extent of our similarity to Him.

Question: I asked the Creator to be kind to my friends, to lift them up, but this is all material. How can I do something spiritual?

Answer: It doesn’t matter that we are in the material, egoistic part of creation. What matters is what we ask for.

We always correct from the egoistic part of creation to the altruistic one. This is how the prayer (MAN, Hissaron, lack) rises when I turn to the Creator from my faulty state and ask Him to transfer me to a corrected one. There can be nothing else here!

In a good state, I imagine myself connected with my friends, and all of us together are directed to our common unity, which we call the Creator. We want to give everything,  each of us outwardly relative to the others, to this common connection of all that is good and kind in us. This is the correct aspiration of a person through a group to the Creator.

Question: Our convention is called “Rising Above Ourselves.” Could you give an outline for everyone of what we should do at this congress? What task would you set for us now?

Answer: Ascend above yourselves. We must unite, push, stomp on, and suppress our egoism. Not to suppress it so that it does not exist, but to rise above it, until the moment I feel myself in my friends.

And then I want to feel the Creator in all this. But one after the  other: first feel the friends and then the Creator.

Question: So throughout the convention I should feel my friends, not myself?

Answer: Yes. This should run like a thread through the convention: “I want to achieve a sense of connection with my friends, a connection in which I will discover the quality of the Creator, the upper force of bestowal, love, and connection. I don’t need anything else from my life. Just that.”

Question: Does mutual guarantee free us from egoism?

Answer: Mutual guarantee does not destroy egoism, it raises us above it, as we usually say: faith above reason, the quality of Bina above the quality of Malchut, bestowal above reception.

Reception does not disappear. Everyone who is higher than the other, his egoism is greater. Therefore, we grow both in Malchut and in Bina. And this is how we rise.

Question: On what does it depend that some friends can accept the law of mutual guarantee much more easily than others?

Answer: It depends on the qualities of the soul, on its depth. But, in principle, we must understand that there is nothing else but the recognition of evil in our egoism, the opportunity to rise above it, connect with others, and attain the Creator in this state.

This is all we have: four stages of ascending to the Creator. In general, there is nothing difficult here. We have talked about this many times. This is what you have to do between you.

Question: To enter the mutual guarantee, do I receive strength only from the friends or can I receive it from my egoism, since it is beneficial for me?

Answer: For now, it is all mixed. You still cannot determine exactly where your strength comes from and what your intentions are. But this is at the beginning. Later you will have the opportunity to check yourself in the upper light.

Question: Rabash writes that a person should say: “I want to be a worker of the Creator even if I have no idea about this work.” When this period begins, who brings me to this state: the Creator or is it my readiness?

Answer: It does not matter whether the Creator brings you to some state or your readiness for it. How can you be ready if this does not come from the Creator? Everything that is in us comes from Him, and nothing more. But it depends on us how we will go through the next states, how much we will go through them together.

Question: On one hand, I want to reveal the Creator. On the other hand, I ask that He not be revealed because I want to believe by faith above reason. So will I always be in a state of concealment and never see Him?

Answer: No. You will see the Creator, but you will see Him precisely in faith above reason, in the property of bestowal. To the extent that you treat the Creator as He treats you, to that extent He will manifest Himself in you.

You should not push Him away, but only bring yourself into equivalence with His properties. And then you can feel Him.

As we strive for connection, the upper light, which once united us and then moved away from us in the breaking, begins to shine again and manifest between us. Question: Why are there friends in the ten who do not participate in its life?

Answer: We must accept and realize that there is a place for this too. After all, we ourselves have such qualities that we can work a bit toward bestowal with some of them and with others absolutely in no way. We see the same thing in friends. Try to bring them closer nevertheless. This will all be corrected.

Question: Is it possible to use envy for a great friend who is not in our ten or in collective work of dissemination?

Answer: Yes. If he is really engaged in spiritual work and you are in contact with him, then you can envy him. But this will not replace your relation to the ten that you must cling to with all your “claws.”

Question: Am I demanding the conditions of the mutual guarantee (Arvut) to be fulfilled only from myself or also from my friends?

Answer: From the friends too. You must agree between yourselves because we will implement the conditions in the group that Baal HaSulam and Rabash explain.

But still, we must take into account how difficult it is because people who come to Kabbalah can be very different. I know from my own experience that by the time I realized these conditions and felt their necessity, a lot of time had passed.

Question: In what form can I demand mutual guarantee?

Answer: We make an agreement between us that we are obliged to be in mutual guarantee. If we try to fulfill its conditions, then we begin to attain the Creator.

The meaning of mutual guarantee is to provide each of us with such a spiritual Kli, such a vessel in which one can reveal the entire universe, including the Creator. That is, mutual guarantee means connection of all the broken parts of the soul of Adam.

And the most important is the prayer. That is, one must pray to the Creator to help him go above reason, meaning that the work should be with gladness, as though he has already been rewarded with the reason of Kedusha, and what joy he would feel then (Rabash, Article No. 12 (1991), “These Candles are Sacred”).

The main thing is the appeal to the Creator. Do everything you can. Imagine our world filled with the Creator. Act as if you are inside Him. This is how you treat your friends but not everyone else.

Raise yourself to the level of faith above reason and develop it within the group.

Ask the Creator to help us rise above our state in the quality of bestowal, above what we see in our world and in ourselves within reason. This is called faith above reason. And this work should be in joy as if it had already been awarded.

Question: What is the point of prayer if you believe that the Creator is good and does good? Who am I to disagree with this and see it differently?

Answer: Why disagree? It is precisely based on the fact you assume that He is kind and does good that you can ask to be given states where you could be like Him.

Question: If I ask to see my friends as the greatest of the generation, does the Creator answer such a prayer?

Answer: Sure. Asking to see your friends as perfect is the best prayer.

Question: What does it mean to pray all day? Is it a thought, an approach, a feeling, or an action?

Answer: This is the perception of the world in which the Creator rules. If I treat this world and the Creator this way, this is prayer. I want to be in this world filled with the Creator and constantly connected to the group.
