The Body Accompanies a Person on The Spiritual Path

701I am often asked: why does a person need a body, why can he not just live inside thoughts? Indeed, the body belongs to the animalistic degree and we want to rise to the human degree that is similar to the Creator. In that case, of course, we will not need this body.

But we have not yet reached final correction, and therefore, in order to rise from degree to degree, we exist in a physical body.

Thoughts alone are not enough. After all, we are born in an animalistic body and exist in it for a certain number of years in order to finally realize that we need to rise above the degree of the body to the degree of thoughts, intentions, and bestowal. That is why we still need this body, and all our work up to the very end of correction can continue in the body.

The body is not a hindrance to spiritual advancement, it does not resist you, but on the contrary, it accompanies you on the path as much as you need. This is a special calculation that happens from above.

Once we correct all the degrees that are subject to correction through existence in the body, by overcoming all the resistance of the body, then this body becomes unnecessary. Then, instead of a physical body of flesh and blood, the will to receive becomes our body, and we continue to exist in our spiritual body.

The Desire of the Other Is More Important than My Own

270Question: My intention to act should come from the desire of others. It happens that the person next to me wants to talk, but I promised another to do important work for him. What should I choose if the people around me have different or even opposite desires?

Answer: It depends on specific cases. But, in principle, the most important thing is that what you promised to a person must be fulfilled.

Question: You said that Kabbalists are very obliging people. What does it mean?

Answer: They feel what is important to the other and try to help him in this action.

The Uppermost Tastes

243.04The reason why the will to receive must cascade by the four above-mentioned discernments in ABYA is that there is a great rule concerning the vessels: The expansion of the light and its departure make the vessel fit for its task (Baal HaSulam, “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah,” item 1).

Comment: This means that the light must first be revealed, then disappear, and when we ourselves want pleasure, then it will be possible to use this desire correctly. Please explain in more detail.

My Response: This is very simple. If I am a guest and I am offered something that I have never tried, then initially it does not awaken any desires in me. I do not want to eat it.

But if I succumb to persuasion, try it,  and begin to feel a delicious taste, smell, and texture, then the next time I am offered the same thing I no longer refuse. I know what it is; I have memories and impressions, and I accept the treat.

Therefore everything depends on how much we will develop the ability for spiritual perception in ourselves so that we can fulfill it and enjoy it as quickly as possible. This is what the Creator wants.

Question: In many sources, it is written about the taste of the Creator. It is even written: “Taste the Creator.” What is the taste of the Creator?

Answer: The quality of bestowal. This quality is the uppermost taste, when a person gives everything he can, contrary to his original desire to receive everything without exception. This causes him great pleasure, not from the fact that he bestows, but from the fact that he is similar to the Creator.

The Upper and the Lower Ones

610.2But in the essay, Beresheet, it was said that that hidden, holy one engraved a carving in his intestines, in Bina (Introduction to The Book of Zohar, Article “Lock and Key”).

The Creator is the uppermost degree, Keter, who is concealed from the lower ones because they cannot attain Him. Keter is their last, most corrected state.

The Creator is concealed behind numerous degrees so that by ascending to them, dressing onto them, the lower ones, that is, people in our world, we can gradually reveal Him, understand Him, and come closer to Him.

Thus, the first three Sefirot: Keter, Hochma, and Bina are the Creator’s thought. They are like the head (Rosh) of the Partzuf. We do not attain this thought.

We attain only the actions of the Creator through the six Sefirot of Zeir Anpin (Hessed, Gevurah, Tiferet, Netzach, Hod, and Yesod), which influence Malchut.

Intention for Every Day

202.0Question: What is the most important intention a person should have every day?

Answer: To be able to do what I have planned. So that today brings me one step closer to the goal of my life.

Question: Do Kabbalists plan such a step every day?

Answer: More or less, yes.

Question: Why do certain situations repeat themselves in life with accuracy to an hour and a minute? For example, some day something was stolen from a person. Or he met someone in the same place, at the same hour.

Answer: I do not know. I do not have this. I have not tracked this.

Super Egoism

289Question: Why is it so difficult to implement some things in the Kabbalistic society? It is easier to do this in an ordinary capitalist society.

Answer: On the corporeal level, you have means, a material interest, an interest in receiving. In a Kabbalistic society however, it is a spiritual interest, interest in bestowal: “How to bestow? Who should I bestow to? Why bestow? Where?”

After all, we grow from egoism. That is why I need to restructure myself! To the extent that I change myself, I can come to bestowal and implement it.

In corporeality, you go in unison with your nature! You show a person what to do, give him an advertisement. Who would not like to earn money? Who would not be buying and boasting to a neighbor: “This is how healthy I am! This is how rich I am! This is how strong I am! This is how lucky I am! And who are you?”

It all goes according to our nature, in accordance with it! Here you just need to encourage and nothing else. Egoism is being inflated in a person and that is it: go ahead and earn “medals.”

This is not so in a Kabbalistic society, in a society of bestowal and love. Where is this bestowal? Where is this love? “Who should I bestow to? To some earthling I do not know, but I have to think how to make him feel good?” My egoistic nature, which has not gone anywhere yet, will not allow me to do this!

I can theoretically agree with this, but I cannot do the action. To do this, I need to attract the upper light that will change me, and then I will be able to act like this.

But how can I want the upper light to come and make me like this? “I do not know, I am afraid. What if I really start giving away everything? After all, I have something! Other people do not even have that. Come in, good people, take everything away.” This is a very big problem!

It will be solved only when the whole world gradually but simultaneously, with the general mass support, begins to understand that there is no other solution: “We are drowning. To be afloat, this is the only thing we can do!”

That is when, on one hand, nature takes us by the throat, and on the other hand, there is huge, broad public support when, as during some terrible tragic event like a tornado, war, earthquake, or tsunami, everyone understands that there is no other solution; when this is the question of life or death, then of course, greater or lesser well-being is not taken into account.

But we must come to that! It is desirable that we feel it now without reaching tragic events. If not, they will happen. But nevertheless, we will have to change ourselves. But why should we do this in the conditions of catastrophes and natural disasters, both public and personal?!

Between Upper and Lower

961.2Question: How much effort did you have to make to feel what your teacher was saying?

Answer: A lot.

Question: You did not always agree with him, did you?

Answer: Of course not.

Question: Did you fight?

Answer: I did not fight against him, although sometimes I had a desire to give him an ultimatum: “No, not like this!” and so on. This is the natural reaction of our egoism.

But the fact is that I always understood that there was no other way, and I tried to work on it. There is no other way! I constantly researched the methodology, and it appeared to me to be very logical and perfect.

I kept trying to find a gap in it where there were still some inconsistencies and contradictions in it. You know, like in some physical theory. In the end, on the contrary, I was revealing only its perfection.

Therefore, I tried very hard to understand everything to the end. But to understand, it is necessary to engage in the implementation of the methodology. This is number one.

Number two is dissemination. After all, realization does not consist only in receiving from the upper, which is the teacher. He is the upper, he stands before you, in front of you, and only through him will you receive spiritual sensations. By this, you are bound to him forever. Such is the hierarchy of souls. And most importantly, you are searching: “Who will receive from me? To whom can I transfer all this?”

When you work with the source and become a transmitter for others, then you begin to properly contact both the upper and the lower. This gradually makes you a more and more corrected element of the spiritual world, the spiritual system.

I tried to work tirelessly in these two directions: to receive from the teacher and to prepare to pass on to others. I think that it was these two movements, me toward him and me toward the others, that brought me to this.

“What does it mean to be truly good?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What does it mean to be truly good?

We are good when we identify with the interconnected and interdependent system of nature, and that we behave kindly toward the system on its every level: the still, vegetative, animate, and especially toward our fellow human beings.

By doing so, we increasingly resemble nature’s force of love, bestowal and connection, and come to experience a harmonious and peaceful existence that is in balance with nature.

Imagine if our bodies would suddenly start operating such that its systems would each do whatever they want, without considering their service to the whole body.

We would die in an instant.

Likewise, we need to see ourselves as parts of an integral system, and to review our behavior with the knowledge of our interdependence in this system. We would then see our current participation in this system as egoistic, where we each seek to benefit ourselves at its expense, and that our tightening interdependence coupled with our bloating egoism causes the increase of sorrows in our lives.

Such a scrutiny should bring us to the conclusion that we need to acquire a new approach—one that aims in the direction of benefiting others and nature—in order to become good. We would then behave supportively, caringly and beneficially toward humanity and nature, and enjoy a new experience of total harmony and peace in our lives.
