Writings of Baal HaSulam, “Building the Future Society”: There is an allegory about friends who were lost in the desert, hungry and thirsty. One of them had found a settlement filled abundantly with every delight. He remembered his poor brothers, but he had already drawn far off from them and did not know their place. What did he do? He began to shout out loud and blow the horn; perhaps his poor hungry friends would hear his voice, approach and come to that abundant settlement filled with every delight.

Question: How do we build such a path so people will feel that it leads to this “settlement filled with every delight”?

Answer: This transition is very difficult and far from popular. The fact is that not many people can move to the new state with their mind, powers, thoughts, and spiritual work.

“With their mind” means with the help of study and practical application of the wisdom of Kabbalah. Only a small fraction of people can do this. All the others will come to the same state precisely because of the influence of the group. The masses won’t have a choice; they will feel miserable, useless, and jobless.

And their suffering will become more internal rather than external. If once a person had no clothes and food, today he doesn’t have internal fulfillment, and this is much worse than hunger or cold. We see how people suffer from depression.

Therefore, the most important thing for us is to assemble a group of people that really can master the new stage of development, and then they will be able to pull the rest of humanity after them.

Comment: It is written that he “began to shout out loud and blow the horn; perhaps his poor hungry friends would hear his voice.”

My Comment: It doesn’t mean that he addressed the broad masses; they can’t hear the spiritual appeal.

They will be able to hear his cry if they feel miserable and hungry; otherwise, they will continue to play with their “toys,” especially since governments are interested in filling their lives with them.

Therefore, the spiritual appeal is directed to a few, and the rest will browse the Internet filled with entertainment and services created especially for them. It is possible to control the masses through the Internet without problems. They will give them free computers, only to keep everyone in an inter-tension.

Question: Is it only in order for them to not feel hunger and start to shout?

Answer: They won’t be able to. After all, the manifestation of hunger for the next state, for the meaning of life, is a fate of the high souls.

Question: “It is written, ‘there is none else besides Him.’ This means that there is no other force in the world that has the ability to do anything against Him.” This is how the very first article in the book Shamati (I Heard) begins. What is it talking about?

Answer: It seems to us that there are many forces and sources of different actions, thoughts, and desires in our world, and everything that happens is a consequence of thousands of different reasons. But in fact, there is only one reason, one force, one thought, one desire, which affects us all in every possible way.

And we need all these sources, which appear to us from all sides and affect us, to return to the Creator because we see that everything comes from Him. When I begin to relate all the influences to one upper force, I begin to know it through its influence on me, through all these means.

It turns out that it is due to these means, returning everything to the Creator, I study Him and I find out why He influences me in different forms, why these forms evoke all sorts of reactions in me, and how I can connect everything with the upper force.

It turns out that I have three components: one source, thousands of means that affect me, and me. Through all these means, directing them to the Creator, I study Him and reveal the upper force.

So there is the upper force, the whole vast world, and me. The Creator affects this world, and as a result, all kinds of forces—that seem to me to be disconnected from each other and to be pursuing different goals—start acting on me from this world. But I cut myself off from this picture and say: “This is not true! I send all these effects back to the one force they actually come from.”

This action, through which one force is divided into thousands of different paths of influence, gives me the opportunity to connect them and reach the upper desire, the understanding of the upper thought, the program of creation, its direction, and my role.

I understand how the whole world is constructed and why it exists in such a form, how the upper force clothes in reality, and how I can relate this whole world to the Creator. There is nothing besides this, that is, nothing besides the Creator.

Question: Where does the spiritual world begin in all this process?

Answer: In all its diversity, this world turns into the spiritual world for me if I send everything back through it and turn it into my appeal to the Creator. When I am directed only to Him, by using all the means through which the Creator addresses me, I see Him.

And then I see one force that awakens me through the students, family, police, illnesses, government, news, relatives, friends, enemies, and tax audits—through everything that exists in a person’s life.

I find out that in everything I am governed by the upper force, but at the same time, I can react and recognize that the government comes, not from 30 to 40 sources, but from one reason which stands behind everything.

If I constantly work to direct my attitude to the Creator through all these means, I begin to understand how He built them, why He created everything, and why He awakens me in this way, which means that I attain and reveal Him. I reveal the clothing of the upper force in all possible means used by Him to influence me. The Creator clothes in my world.

Question: How can a Kabbalistic book help me achieve such a correct view?

Answer: When reading a book, I imagine that I receive influence from the upper force through it. The book describes the actions of the Creator, that is, I relate everything to Him, which is called: “Israel, Torah, and the Creator are one.” There are three components: the first, Israel is me, the second, the Torah is the whole world through which I want to achieve the Creator, and the third is the Creator. And all these three components are one since everything must be attributed to the same source.

Question: Why was The Book of Zohar written in Aramaic?

Answer: Aramaic is parallel to Hebrew. These are the two most ancient languages in the world, which also have the same alphabet. When we describe and present the attributes of the Light, they are described in Hebrew, and when we describe and present the attributes of the vessel (the desire) they are described in Aramaic.

The two languages complement each other because when we study the spiritual world, the desire and the Light are two completely different, opposite categories, distant from each other. Therefore, we usually use these two languages in order to indicate these differences, and this is how they have always been revealed.

Question: How does external influence affect the character of a generation and shape it?

Answer: Human egoism is like clay or dough from which a society can mold anything.

Question: Doesn’t the character of a generation depend on its egoism?

Answer: Egoism only determines how pliable this material is. Once, it is molded from clay, then sculpted from marble, and later, even more complex materials are used for construction. Today, mostly plastic is used.

The distinction is all in the material, and what to build and how is determined by the generation. But, the material itself, suitable for construction, comes from within, from the developing desire to enjoy.

Question: The older generation created all the innovations that had not existed before in the world, and the next generations enter a world in which everything is as it is. Is that perhaps why the younger generation is not very impressed with material values?

Answer: Young people are not impressed with material values, and they have nothing to add to the world of material things. It would seem, what will they do? But, this is just like after Newton’s physics where everything was already known. Einstein suddenly came and opened new dimensions.

The same is true here. We built all kinds of devices, but the next generation has the opportunity to create new programs for them, to get inside the matter, inside the genome, into the source of life, inside the brain and above it. They still have a lot of work.

As a student, I worked in the field of medical cybernetics at an institute engaged in the study of blood and the brain. But, this is nothing compared to modern instruments and research facilities. The research went far into the interior: inside the cell, inside the brain, the psychology of man, and beyond the boundaries of the mind. It breaks through and beyond the borders of human life.

These studies still refer to the material, but they are approaching the border of the spiritual world, and we are gradually losing touch with matter. This information is from the border zone and over the matter.

The egoism of modern man is more developed and complex. It is destined to perceive the deepest mysteries of life. And for him, they seem quite natural and ordinary. A person is no longer impressed with the tools that fall into his hands, but he is looking for what can be achieved with their help.

The baby boomer generation built a material base, the equipment. The next generation created a program for it. The youngest generation will now use all of this.

Question: And what will the new generation have to do? Where are we going?

Answer: I think that the next generation will enter the reality that we will reveal at the expense of all of our previous development, and they will live in it. They should reveal the spiritual world. The challenge of the next generation is to move from computers and the study of matter to its forces. Deeper inside the material, through it, we reach the forces that govern it, and there we will continue our research.

Question: What will young people be impressed with in a decade?

Answer: It seems to me, with nothing. The younger the generation, the more difficult it is to be touched by something. Their egoism is so subtle that it is not impressed by anything tangible in this world. They need to uncover higher sources of influence on themselves and, perhaps, they will impress them. The usual fulfillments—food, sex, family, money, honor, and knowledge—are no longer important to the modern generation.

It is clear that it is necessary to satisfy the essential needs of the body, but beyond the necessary, a young man will want to be in the world of the managing program, in the world of forces, above the material, where matter comes into play in the large computer of creation called the “spiritual world.”

Question: If the Creator created the ego and He is also the one who supervises and manages everything, is He responsible for it’s manifestation?

Answer: Certainly. The Creator is to blame for all of our problems. He gives us these problems so that we will clarify them, and in that way, we will gain the upper world for ourselves. Only then will we see that He is doing this to us as a gift and not as a punishment.

Question: If the Creator created evil, then must we clarify who He is? What tools do we have for understanding this? Sometimes you say that the Creator is some kind of characteristic, a force. How can a characteristic create something like this?

Answer: You can attain the Creator only to the same degree that you attain, or it is possible to say, that you create, the characteristic of bestowal and love within you. Thanks to having been made up of only bad characteristics and now a good characteristic has also appeared in you, in the gap between these two characteristics (the right and left lines), you can attain what the Creator is, which is the middle line.

Question: Does this mean that the Creator, who manages everything, is an immense power, while I only attain a small part of Him, and this is also to the degree that I resemble Him?

Answer: You attain Him partially, to the degree that you resemble Him, but it is up to you to attain it all.

Question: Is it possible to say that as long as The Book of Zohar was hidden, it was gathering power and energy? Or has humanity developed and reached a height from which it can perceive and understand it?

Answer: There is nothing sacred in a book. We need to understand that the concept of Kedusha (Holiness) means the characteristic of bestowal and love; it is not found in The Book itself and not among its pages. The Book of Zohar serves as a transmitter, a channel through which the higher force passes and influences us.

If the person who reads the text is interested in associating with it, then the text becomes a channel that leads to the upper Light and may not yet be felt by the person himself, but it is already influencing him. The person begins to feel inner changes and even gets used to such an influence from The Book of Zohar.

He later discovers further and further new characteristics, new feelings. And that is how he advances.

Question: How is it possible to use the negative and distracting events in material life for spiritual advancement?

Answer: We need to perceive our world as a single whole. There is nothing outside of the framework of the management from the upper world.

We are learning about the only power of nature, how it manages a person and humanity. Therefore, if problems appear in our lives, we need to attribute them to the same single force of nature. So, we need to understand that if we feel bad, this is only because we are lacking coordination with the demands that nature places before us.

The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us how we must do this, how to position ourselves in relation to nature, how to unite, so that due to our good relations, we can properly direct nature to us..

Therefore, all of the negative influences from the surrounding society, ecology, climatic conditions, political life, economy, and all other events that happen to a person, we can decide for ourselves.

Everything depends only on good relationships between us; through them it is possible to “soften” all the problems, and not in any other way. This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us, and we feel this through human communication.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, if a person wants to change the world, it is up to him to change himself and his attitude toward others. That is why we have organized ourselves into groups and are learning how to attract the positive force of nature to us so that it will change us.

To the same degree that it will change us toward a positive direction, the world will begin to be changed. This is the mutual relationship between us and the management system.
