The Kabbalistic Principle – “Mutual Concessions”

laitman_543_02Question: How do we work between a man and woman according to the principle, “living with faith in the Creator”?

Answer: To begin with, the couple must build the right mutual relationships between them. The idea is not to break through to the upper world immediately.

Our world is built according to the upper world. So first and foremost it is necessary to create a mutual connection built on the basis of mutual concessions, which is one of the working principles in a group of Kabbalists.

When I come to a group, I must nullify myself completely in regard to the others; I must become integrated with the friends, give them what they require, serve them, and do everything to connect with them.

Similarly, a married couple must operate mutually, he for her and she for him. Moreover, this must be done within reason without dwelling on the other. Rather, their relationship must be built carefully and sensibly

If we want to create a group that works according to Kabbalistic principles in a family, we must precisely establish the conditions that are written in the first 15 articles by Rabash about constructing a group. It doesn’t matter with whom we are mutually cooperating, with a partner or with the friends in a group. In every case, what is built is a system of mutual connection, of right and left lines, characteristics of reception and characteristics of bestowal, of one person with another.

Man And Woman – Such Different Worlds, Part 2

Question: Presently, men and women receive pleasure from the fact that they dominate over one another. How is it possible to enjoy our equality and mutual completion?

Answer: Only completing each other brings us real sexual pleasure. When each of us connects with a partner above their animal sexual feeling, in a corrected spiritual coupling, we turn into a spiritual man and woman who complete each other in order to reveal the upper force, and an eternal, heavenly life between them.

This force of life is revealed between these two to the extent that they are able to make a correction called “A man and a woman and the divinity (Schechina) between them.” In this way we create the upper world between us, and then we exist in it, and it exists in us.

Question: What does a woman have to do in order to feel equal to a man and enable their mutual completion?

Answer: A woman must help a man and a man must help a woman to really feel equal with respect to correction and connection to the upper force. We can never be equal in any other sense.

Only through revelation of the Creator between us, when all desires of a man and woman complete each other, an eternal and complete state is created that is called the “Garden of Eden.”

To do this, one needs to think about the other and help the other to reach a correct spiritual conduct. A man must help a woman in this, and a woman must help a man. And in this, a woman has a much higher mission than a man. After all, she needs to show him that she expects from him exactly this, so that revelation of the highest spiritual level will become more important to him than dominating a woman in any way: spiritually, financially, or sexually.

A woman wants to adhere to a spiritual man. And a man has to receive the proper education so that the revelation of the spiritual state will be the most important goal for him. And because he is unable to reach this goal without a woman, he requires her, her inner strength and support.

He needs a woman that will support him and will be building a spiritual nest together with him, not for an animal coupling, but for a spiritual one. Spiritual merging between man and woman is called coupling where each invests their force of bestowal above the force of love for their unity.

This is not power of one over the other and not an acquisition, but a special completion of each other above their personal egoism and their joint egoism. Joint egoism is the physical coupling where they materially complete each other and become like one body. However this is only a bodily connection.

They want to unite spiritually. When a man and a woman reach such completion, they really come to the perfect life.

A Man And A Woman – Mutual Completion

Laitman_183_04Question: What is the woman’s role in the man’s spiritual development?

Answer: If a man truly and seriously advances in spirituality, he needs the help of a woman, just as a woman needs the help of a man. They try to realize mutual completion at all times.

Notably, mutual completion is much more important in the spiritual connection than in the physical one. While in the corporeal world, we give birth to the next generation, in the spiritual connection, we give birth to souls. This is very important mutual cooperation. It is so important that until lately, it was forbidden for a man to study the wisdom of Kabbalah unless he was married. It was considered that he can realize himself only if he is married.

Question: This means that a man cannot attain spirituality without a woman, and a woman without a man?

Answer: Yes, the two systems should be balanced, but it doesn’t mean that they must be husband and wife.

Today, the world is undergoing a transitional process from the state of total ignorance regarding the wisdom of Kabbalah to returning to it and using it for our needs. Because the wisdom of Kabbalah has been concealed from people for many years, they don’t understand it yet.

This is the reason that it is so difficult for us to explain how the wisdom of Kabbalah can play a special role in creating harmony between the two sexes. After all, our world is meant to attain harmony, balance between all of its levels and between them and the upper world, and this is impossible without the fulfillment of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

We can use the wisdom of Kabbalah to help us establish the right family relations, to educate our kids correctly, and to establish good relations between families, between people, between nations, and between all of humanity and nature. The order and balance will be attained only by studying the wisdom of Kabbalah that shows us how it can be done. Otherwise, we disrupt the balance in the entire universe, in the world and in nature.

Who Is Closer To The Wisdom Of Kabbalah?

laitman_599_02Question: Who is closer to the wisdom of Kabbalah, men or women?

Answer: Men. Women feel it more instinctively while men must go through it and transfer this knowledge by way of their head, mind, and thoughts.

Their need for correction of the ego is much greater than it is with women. So a woman can study less; she doesn’t need to get up at three o’clock in the morning for a lesson, while this is mandatory for men. That is how nature created us.

The male ego is different from the female ego, it requires a greater correction. Because it deviates from the way, it is torn to pieces.

Women are not inferior to men; their ego is simply earthier in an everyday practical sense. They are more corrected than men. If a woman were managing the world, the world would be better.

Comment: But still, sometimes women are managed by men.

Answer: If they were to take things over everywhere and the men were to go fishing, it would be better for everyone.

Dispelling Myths About Kabbalah, Part 1

Laitman_115_04Listen to Sarah

Question: People say that only Jews are allowed to study Kabbalah. Is this true?

Answer: I have another question: Who are these “Jews?” Originally those who studied the wisdom of Kabbalah were called Jews.

People who gathered around the forefather Abraham called themselves Jews. He brought them from ancient Babylon to the land of Canaan. The nation of Israel originated from this group. “Jews (Yehudim) comes from the word “unity (Yehud)” – connection. That is, the original meaning of the concept “Jew” is precisely the one who is engaged in Kabbalah.

Question: What if a Turkish-Muslim studies Kabbalah?

Answer: It doesn’t matter who he is. There were many tribes and various communities in ancient Babylon. Those who joined Abraham became “Jews.”

In essence, a Jew is not a nationality like all other nations. One can be French and become a Jew. Being a Jew does not mean to belong to one’s father and mother, but rather to belong to an idea, to the aspiration to find the meaning of life, the purpose of development.

A Jew is a spiritual notion. Therefore, any person can be a Jew. A French or German who devotes himself to this approach, to one upper force (the good who does good) where there is nothing else besides this force, and to the law of love the other as yourself becomes a Jew. This is what determines his “Jewishness” (Yehudiut).

Question: Can a woman study Kabbalah? Did women Kabbalists exist in the past?

Answer: Certainly! All Jewish foremothers and prophetesses were Kabbalists. Up until the destruction of the Temple, both men and women of the nation of Israel possessed spiritual attainment. They lived simultaneously in sensation of the two worlds as one whole.

Question: It turns out that there is no difference between men and women in Kabbalah?

Answer: There is a difference. Just like in our world a woman is different from a man in her perception of reality and her behavior. However, with respect to the upper force and the goal of creation both of them have the same direction. Therefore, any person can study Kabbalah regardless of their nationality and gender.

In previous centuries there were such prophetesses as Huldah, Deborah, Miriam, and foremothers of the Jewish nation. Their spiritual levels were not less but even greater than men’s. Not without reason the Creator says to Abraham “Listen to what Sarah tells you.”

Laitman_013_05Question: When one is creating a partnership, is it necessary to inform the partner immediately that you are studying the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: Yes, certainly. From the moment you get to know the person for the first time, you must feel his attitude toward this. It is even better to remember that, as a general rule, it is doubtful if a person “from the outside” will be compatible as a partner for you. It is preferable to choose him from our groups throughout the world.

Question: Why does a man need to provide for his wife?

Answer: That is customary in all cultures. A woman is the home. She must give birth and educate the children, and be involved with home economics, whereas a man must “go out to hunt and bring home the mammoth.”

Question: Does sex interfere with spiritual growth?

Answer: No.

Question: Why have men and women been compelled, as becomes clear in old age, to be involved with unimportant things for their entire lives?

Answer: It depends on how they carry out their lives. They can live on an animal level; they can live like angels.

Question: Can I unite with my wife without being present in a group?

Answer: You can, but this is not easy.

Question: According to what criteria should a Kabbalist choose a husband?

Answer: It is according to maximum purposefulness, loyalty to the group, studying, and things like that. If you are ready to choose, choose like that.

Question: If a man doesn’t provide for his wife materially but is involved with spirituality, must he provide for himself?

Answer: As a general rule, in our day, a man cannot provide for his family. We have been put into such circumstances that two salaries are necessary to provide for a family. There is nothing special about this. So, a woman doesn’t need to set conditions for a man to be involved with the wisdom of Kabbalah only after he provides for her. If a husband works normally and gets paid, you can’t demand more from him than this.

Question: If a man needs a woman in order to advance spiritually, does the Creator bring him to a partnership or is this a person’s choice?

Answer: No, a man himself must try to find a wife, a woman who is next to him. This is so that you will feel that you have obligations and concerns about someone and that, together, you constitute a couple. This is very desirable for spiritual development.

Listen To What A Woman Says…

Laitman_201_01Question: Why does it seem to me that women are smarter than men?

Answer: It is because they are more practical and more connected to our world. They feel it more and don’t float in the clouds like men do. So, I recommend that men listen to them.

Question: It seems that women understand the wisdom of Kabbalah much better?

Answer: Women are far from understanding the wisdom of Kabbalah more than the men. They simply feel instinctively what is better for them to attain maximum comfort, tranquility and harmony in life because the female body obligates them to this. So, if a man wants to reach the correct normal state of family life more rapidly, it is desirable to listen to a woman.

Does A Woman Need A Group?

laitman_599_02Question: You have said that naturally there cannot be true friendship between women, why?

Answer: True friendship cannot be between men either. Their friendship is no different from childish friendship. Women don’t know how to be friends because they are individualistic; we see that in everyday life.

In the spiritual world, both men and women encounter the same problems and it makes no difference that women are more distant from a mutual connection between them than men who seem to find it easier to connect to one another, but it only seems so at first. But when women begin to build internal connections between them, they see that it isn’t that easy and so do the men. Therefore my advice is not to think that it is easier for men to perform spiritual corrections.

Question: Do women need a group?

Answer: Women need a group just like men do. In spirituality, women have to perform all the actions that a man performs: the same closeness, the same mutual guarantee between them. In the spiritual world it makes absolutely no difference which body you are in; think that you have no body.

Should A Woman Give In To Her Husband?

Laitman_095Question: If a woman wants to develop spiritually and her husband prefers to remain on the corporeal level, should she give in and obey her husband and remain on that level? Is it worthwhile to maintain such a family?

Answer: I don’t think that a husband can force his wife to remain on the corporeal level only. She can bring up the kids, take care of the family, and at the same time find time for herself.

Basically, a woman knows how to do this delicately because women are well organized in this world. Men usually are not very pragmatic. They are less organized and not really compatible with life, whereas women firmly stand on two legs and are much more pragmatic.

My advice is not to force your husband to be like you, and he shouldn’t force you to be like him. If you manage to take care of the household and have a good and friendly relationship, you shouldn’t disrupt anything in the family relations.

A Corporeal Wrapping And A Spiritual Essence

Laitman_201_01Question: How can one become a real man or a real woman? What should a man and woman be like in the ideal state?

Answer: An ideal state for a man and a woman is when they are totally compatible with the group, each according to his own circumstances and regardless of gender.

When a person totally melts into the group and takes upon himself all the problems and worries of the group, he thus turns into the bestowing part in the group, which means the male part.

It has nothing to do with physiology, a person’s external appearance, or gender.

Question: So why is everything in our world so complicated?

Answer: Because on one hand, our world was created according to the image of spiritual discernments, and on the other hand, our physical image is fixed. In this world a person cannot change and become a woman the next day if he is a man today, while in spirituality it is possible, and so our earthly wrapping has nothing to do with our spiritual level.
