About Men And Women In The Spiritual World

Laitman_632_2Question: How does the wisdom of Kabbalah relate to men and women? Is it according to gender, according to how they think, or is it something else?

Answer: Both men and women are the feminine receiving part relative to the Upper Light. In the spiritual world, a male (man) is someone who receives in order to bestow. Bestowal is the male part because we turn our female part into a male part and the female part continues to receive. A force that resists the ego, which is called a Masach (screen), is created as a result of spiritual development, and then the resistance is in the form of male or female regardless of one’s gender.

Why Are There No Women Teachers In Kabbalah?

laitman_629_3Question: Why are there no women who are teachers in the modern wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: In ancient times, there were many women who were Kabbalists, like Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Leah, Miriam, and so on. However, in the last 700 years, I cannot point to any woman who was on this level.

Question: But the wisdom of Kabbalah gives equal opportunity to all.

Answer: There was a time when there was no equal opportunity because Judaism was in darkness, in exile. True Judaism is derived from a yearning to attain and reveal the Creator, the desire to resemble Him—things that are attained through the connection between us. After the destruction of the Beit HaMikdash (Temple), we were in darkness, in unfounded hatred, distant, and lacking the understanding of where we were. We performed mechanical actions without knowing why and how. Today, these actions are called Judaism.

We exchanged the true learning, the Light, for requirements completely devoid of Light and attainment of the upper world, for incomprehensible interpretations.

For 2,000 years, we were living in a period that was like the Middle Ages, and it has been only in the last twenty years that the wisdom of Kabbalah has begun to be revealed gradually. An identical program for men and women exists with us the Bnei Baruch group. Both of these groups study identical courses. It is clear that the entire world needs to know the system of connection; otherwise, we cannot survive. So, women must participate in this because women influence the men, and it is necessary to use this to awaken them.

A man is like a little child. He is interested in soccer and a few other things, whereas a woman looks more soberly at life. So, we want to see serious participation from women.

Man And Woman: Unity Of Opposites

laitman_571_01Question: The term “created being” is genderless (neither male nor female), but is the created being a man or a woman?

Answer: In fact, the created being is a female because the Creator created a desire. The force, the Light, that created this desire is male.

The Creator is the masculine part and the created being—its feminine part. One part cannot operate without the other. As a result, there are male and female. After all, it is impossible for the Light to be without a vessel and for the vessel to be without the Light, or a plus without minus and minus without the plus. Therefore, everything is based on the union of opposites that is the subject of creation.

The created being initially consists of a male part, which then created the female part, which means that the Light created the desire and then the desire changes itself to resemble the Light. The essence of a man and a woman in our world is to attain their spiritual root and to reside there in the connection between them according to spiritual laws. Then they attain a perfect and eternal state of spiritual flight. This is their purpose in this world.

Question: What is the fundamental difference between them?

Answer: The difference between them is absolute. In our world, we don’t feel how opposite they are from one another. In fact there is nothing more opposite and contrasting than a man and a woman in their spiritual root.

It is actually thanks to the difference over which they must connect into one whole. There is nothing in each of them that the other doesn’t complement since spiritually they can only exist in mutual complement.

I am speaking from the perspective of nature, from a Kabbalistic perspective. I’m not interested in feminist views. This isn’t about psychology or philosophy or some respectable or indecent ideas or views. This is totally irrelevant and has nothing to do with the framework we operate in.

I recognize the wisdom of Kabbalah, which tells us about the created being; how it was created, how it developed, how he was divided into two opposite parts, and how the two parts that stem from one root first draw away from one another and then reconnect and complement one another. This are the male and female parts.

We can attribute very little of what the wisdom of Kabbalah tells us to a man and woman in our world because we are very far from resembling the spiritual attributes and objects. This means that we are neither men nor women in the spiritual sense, but something in the middle, ambiguous and unfinished. We have to go through the whole evolutionary process, then we will realize how we can complement one another and become a single perfect whole. This means to become similar to the Creator.

Spiritual Development In Our Relationships

laitman_766_1Question: You once said that if a man and a woman are mutually connected, it is a powerful means to reveal the Creator, and a person who has this field of work is very lucky and doesn’t need much time to fulfill it, but actually only a few minutes a day.

But what exactly should you do during this time? What is the best way to study the wisdom of Kabbalah with one’s spouse?

Answer: It doesn’t really matter. What’s important is the effort a couple makes to feel as one spiritual whole in the face of various interferences that come along all of the time above which they must reach an upper agreement for the sake of their spiritual advancement.

Question: How should a person behave correctly and harmoniously from a spiritual perspective in situations of conflict with loved ones? On the one hand, the ego constantly finds different tricks to make people break up, and it is scary to realize how helpless we are. On the other hand, I truly cherish and value my relationships.

Answer: Try to understand that all of the connections between us go through the Creator. This will fine tune your perspective in all your relationships.

Men And Women: Let’s Consider Nature

Laitman_023Question: I am concerned about the interaction between the male and the female parts of my group. The men have no idea how the women in the group can help the men.

Can I try to work with the men and women in a workshop in order to discuss these matters with them?

Answer: The interaction between men and women, especially in workshops, will lead to distractions associated with sex. Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend that except for neccesary technical work.

You can try and you will immediately discover the interference that will nullify all that is spiritual in the group.

This is our nature and we have to take it into account because our success is actually in becoming free of the feelings and the fillings to aspiring for the revelation of the upper network of mutual actions.

laitman_622_02Question: I heard that studying Kabbalah is forbidden for men who are under 40 and that it is totally forbidden for women. How can that be?

Answer: Baal HaSulam answers this question in great detail in the Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot. He says that there are no limitations, neither for men nor for women. There are no age or gender limitations.

There were women who were great Kabbalists throughout our history such as Sarah, Leah, and Miriam, compared to whom the men were like small children. There were many women who left their mark on history in their spiritual ascent.

There were women Kabbalists who were on the level of prophets. A prophet is a spiritual level on which a person connects with the Creator in a totally revealed matter. There were such women to whom others, including the, wise, elderly and experienced would come for advice regarding their spiritual ascent. This means that they were above the men!

Question: In modern times, women also study the wisdom of Kabbalah as well as aspire to reach high posts in the world of business and government. Does that mean that the men are not managing their role, and therefore women develop in this direction?

Answer: Yes, it indicates that we are nearing the end of the world. I am not saying this in a derogatory sense. It is a state in which men totally lose the desire to manage our world while this desire is ignited in women, which is a sign that our world basically has reached its ultimate state.

laitman_582_01Question: Does gender, age, or nationality influence the study of Kabbalah?

Answer: No, only desire does.

But there is a difference in the attitude and in the way of climbing the spiritual ladder that stems from a person’s attributes and especially from whether it is a man or a woman.

Just as men and women in our world differ in their perception of reality and in their advancement and in their actions, they also differ when it comes to the wisdom of Kabbalah.

Question: What is the role of women in the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: It is the same as the men’s role. There is no difference! There are simply personal differences between men and women, just like in our world.

laitman_938_03Question: In all the sources it is written about the importance of connection. So why is there a kind of blindness that does not allow people to see those things?

Answer: Man needs to be able to feel what it is about. Otherwise, it will stay only as important words that don’t have anything realistic behind it for him.

But if he will participate in a workshop in roundtables, then suddenly he will be impressed as if he never heard until now that connection can awake such feelings.

Suddenly he will understand everything. Before he only heard, and in the best case he thought about it for a moment. But the person lives in a feeling, our matter is a desire to receive; therefore, we grasp everything through the heart. As long as our words do not touch the heart, they have no meaning and they stay as philosophy and empty slogans. Therefore, we need to bring a person to excitement and for that we need to attract him to a special workshop with questions that will excite him and he will understand that here lies a special force.

He will want to be in this special state all the time to continue it more and more according to his desire. We need to bring him to this feeling a few times so it will live in him.

And later he will not just receive a pleasant feeling; rather, he will reveal the force of unity. And we will be able to teach him to use this force to correct his life, the situation, in order to get rid of the evil. Meaning, they are certain stages in the recognition of the intensity of the connection.

Let’s do roundtables in the country and try to connect, to awaken ourselves to connection in order to attract the Reforming Light that will spread between us and correct everything. No doubt, this will improve the situation. In addition to the good feeling, it will cause meaningful changes in the area on the corporeal level.

If we will do all of it, then it will awaken a positive shock in the whole country. It will improve the relations between us, and the behavior of drivers on the road. Try it once and you will see.

This is called true prayer. When we raise a deficiency through connection, the unity between us, it directly awakens the Reforming Light and becomes the “prayer of many.”

We have in our hands, a tool, that with its help we directly bestow to the Creator and activate the upper force; therefore, we don’t need politics. We have an opportunity to make practical actions that awaken the Upper Light. He is always ready and is in complete rest. We only need to activate Him.

At the time of the workshop, people need to feel that they awaken the force of unity between them, which will help them. We only need to explain to them that inside the force of unity between us is concealed the inner force of nature.

All nature is one, a united mechanism; therefore, when we are united, we awake this special force that connects us to Him and fulfills us. In such a form we become one body, where everything is in balance because nature is global.

A Place For Effort

laitman_238_01Question: All of our efforts throughout the day, other than the morning lesson, are mixed because they are arranged in circles for both men and women. I have a feeling that in general the women are not felt in these circles, they become “as delicate as a dandelion”….

Answer: You don’t feel the female ego? But why should it be discovered? There is no such Mitzvah to be a big egoist. On the contrary, if what you have is already corrected, it means that you are a spiritual person. But if you don’t know what must be corrected in you, it means that you aren’t working on yourself, so the ego hasn’t been discovered in you.

Comment: An impression like this is created that among the women there is a lack of inner unity. Each one is for herself.

Answer: And who is hindering you? You are complaining that the ego hasn’t been discovered in you. But the Upper Light is what must reveal it, the same Light that influences you and from which you will feel yourself as a big egoist. This means that the ego is discovered when you invest effort.

So you must try to serve others more and more, work on unity, on helping. When you finish working on this level, they will show you that essentially you are a big egoist and have been doing all of this for your own sake.

In no way do we create negative actions or awaken negative thoughts or desires in ourselves. We advance forward and upward only, never backward and downward. We never do that. And after a person finishes work on the present level, the next level of ego always appears.

But if you don’t even feel the ego within you, then you remain on the previous level. This means that you are expending very little effort to make our group a single complete unit in your eyes.

The Teacher Is A Kind Of Transmitter Of Spiritual Energy

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can a woman begin to love the spiritual teacher?

Answer: I think that it is much easier for a woman than for a man since she feels no internal resistance or conflict with the teacher. To love the teacher means to love the source of your spiritual existence. In fact, the teacher is a kind of a transmitter of spiritual energy, but for you, it is the source. It is like parents who are the source for their baby because everything the baby receives, he gets from them.

It makes no difference whether it is a man or a woman with regard to the teacher. There were times when a woman for many years was the leader of the Israeli nation, its spiritual leader, the teacher, and those were actually years when the whole nation was on a spiritual level. This indicates that people are simply detached from their external wrapping. Today it is very hard to imagine it.

In the past many prophets were women: Deborah, Huldah, and others. A prophet is a person who is in a direct connection with the Creator. What difference does it make whether it is a man or a woman? We shouldn’t regard the teacher as a man, but as the source of the power, the information, and the filling, like an upper Partzuf. This will come gradually.
