The Basic Principles For Success Along The Spiritual Path

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I be assisted by a teacher who is a Kabbalist? Can you give a few basic principles of how we can use such a gift of the upper force?

Answer: If a teacher advises something, you should try to fulfill it. My most important advice is to attend the morning lesson that I give daily.

My second advice is to find yourself a group of ten, preferably a physical group, not a virtual one, and to try to be in contact with it, to study together and to do everything that we do in a group of ten.

In addition, if there is a convention near where you live, you should do whatever is in your power to attend it, and of course, engage in dissemination as much as you can dedicate your time to it.

In short, the most important thing is the morning lesson, then working in the group of ten, dissemination, and participation in conventions. There is nothing more you need to do.

How Can You Find The Right Teacher?

Laitman_414Question: How can you find the right teacher? How can I not be mistaken if I am controlled by egoistic illusions? After all, it is said that there are many ways to attain the Creator.

Answer: We still have to clarify the saying “There are many paths to the Creator.” You cannot hide behind various sublime sayings that the ego can interpret any way it likes.

A teacher is the one who, in a spiritual sense, is implicitly perceived without any doubts on the way to the revelation of the upper. Otherwise one will not follow his way will be doomed to fail.

Question: How can a person determine if the teacher is the right teacher or not if he is dominated by his egoistic desires?

Answer: There is no way he can do that! Just as a person doesn’t know his way in life, he doesn’t know the path to the teacher.

How can I explain why I chose Rabash, for example? After all, I didn’t choose him when I drove 30 km on a rainy winter evening to another city and entered a dark, damp small room and found six old men, one of whom was Rabash. How can you describe this?! This is upper fate, luck.

Before that I had searched for many years, but there is not any logical way I can explain this.

Therefore, many come and go in the search for the teacher. They may be lucky and find someone else, and I am all for people’s search. It is written that a person can learn only where his heart desires.

The Only Teacher

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn our world there is only one teacher, guide, and Rav—the Creator. There is no one else! The Creator, the upper positive force, manages everything and creates the relatively negative egoistic force.

All the others are participants in this process no matter what role they play. They are sorted only according to the state relative to that teacher—how much they understand Him and carry out His way or the opposite. Only this reflects their state and indicates their level.

I call myself a guide because I try to explain to people how I understand my spiritual teacher and how I understand the teacher, the Creator. I teach people how to find the way to the upper force.

In general, I believe that any person in our world has no other mission than this because the most important thing is to understand how he is associated with the Creator because He manages everything.

Being connected with the Creator is only possible through a group, a ten, with more connections, with greater reciprocity, of dissolving itself in others and drawing inward by absorbing all into itself.

This is the way we should go. And then you will find the teacher, the guide, the friend, and the Rav in one person.

Spiritual Hierarchy

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Must there be a mediator between a person and the Creator?

Answer: Of course, this is a group facilitator in which a person discovers the force that corrects him, the Creator.

The teacher is more of guide than a mediator; the student cannot be closed only on the teacher because he would lose his incentive to develop. He should passively cling to the teacher. This is first.

Secondly, the student always receives the Upper Light through the teacher; it is an absolutely precise hierarchal process from the upper to the lower. The upper turns upward with the request of the lower, receives the portion of Light, and passes the lower his portion. This is a fixed structure from Adam to the present day. This hierarchy is essential and so my students will also advance through me because I preceded you.

Those who come after you and will be your students will receive the Light through you. All this is explained in part fifteen of Talmud Eser Sefirot. The upper always rises to the top, receives a double portion due to the lower, and then transmits it to him. So the hierarchy is required.

But the most importantly, you should understand is that the implementation is not in your connection to the teacher. You should fully trust the teacher and follow his advice, but the fulfillment is in the group.

Does A Kabbalist See The Level Of The Soul?

laitman_530Question: Do you see the level of the soul of your students and of others?

Answer: A Kabbalist sees the state his student is in, as well as the future, in other words, how far this person can advance, but he doesn’t say anything. The free choice remains the student’s.

There Are No Privileges In The Spiritual Work

laitman_528_04Torah, Deuteronomy 12:8 – 12:9: You shall not do as all the things that we do here this day, every man [doing] what he deems fit. For you have not yet come to the resting place or to the inheritance, which the Lord, your God, is giving you.

A person in the course of his development—wandering through the desert for forty years, entering the correct work with his desire that is called “entering the land of Israel” and rearranging this land (“Aretz” from the word “Ratzon,” desire) for bestowal and love by serving the Creator—finally begins to understand his previous mistakes and misunderstandings.

He realizes how he was led from above. The Creator purposefully caused him mistakes and misunderstandings so that he would see all of the problems and the right actions through them. It is impossible to reveal something if you don’t make mistakes prior to it. After all, in order to come to the correct understanding of some phenomenon, it is necessary to know it from both sides: right and wrong.

Question: So, does it mean that what seems to me as correct now is wrong?

Answer: We only give a person the method of correction, but we don’t engage with what he goes through and how he does it.

No one has the right to interfere with the internal problems, corrections, feelings, and movements of a person—no one, not even the teacher, let alone a student regarding another student! You watch from the side, you observe all of this, you understand that only in this way can he develop, and in no any other way, and you wait ten years, twenty years, or thirty years.

Of course, changes happen in a person every moment, but you can’t enter this and propose, “Let me do it, or let me finish it for you.”

There are many types of support and help from the teacher that the student doesn’t know about because they are not performed explicitly. On the contrary, to the student, it seems that he was abandoned, the teacher is not paying attention to him, and so forth.

It was even worse for me. I suffered, worried, was stressed, and couldn’t do anything, and Rabash was laughing in my face.

Question: Yet, you were very close.

Answer: That doesn’t mean anything. The spiritual work stays spiritual work. There are no privileges or actions of the teacher in order to help the student. Otherwise, the student won’t make it. He must be independent in all of his desires and qualities, and use them correctly, one hundred percent, for bestowal.

But it all depends on the devotion of the student to the teacher, the group, and the goal. Through them, he comes to devotion to the Creator.

On The Spiritual Map of the World

laitman_254_03Question: Perhaps for the correct prayer we lack the desires of the lower ones?

Answer: Certainly. I stay in contact with all groups in the world. This is a broad geography covering practically all the territory of South and North America, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, European groups, and groups from Africa.

We have to be in contact with one another because the lack of the outer desire relative to every ten limits it and it does not feel the ability to advance further.

I purposefully try to be in some connection with everyone as much as my time allows me. After all, I don’t have more time than anyone else does, but I try to absorb desires, sufferings, and the doubts of the groups.

I do not attempt to enter someone’s private life. It does not give anything. In spirituality, one can sense only the common state of the group, its common opinion, and its aspirations. This is what becomes inscribed on the spiritual map!

However, if it is not a group, not an assembly of at least a few people, I am not interested in them even if they are some great individuals. I do not become included in them because their desires do not exist in the spiritual world.

The New Sanhedrin

laitman_933Question: Do you have a successor? Who will continue your teaching of the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: Each of you and all of you together. I don’t think that it will be one person because we have reached a state where the new generation all of my students were not created to be individualists. Now is beginning to unfold that the general program of creation requires a group.

We can see that before there were individual scientists such as Newton, Leibniz, Einstein, Bohr, Landau and others, and now there are teams. Creative, professional groups work on all scientific problems; scientific breakthroughs are accomplished only through the efforts of large numbers of people.

It is the same with the wisdom of Kabbalah. If in the past there were individual Kabbalists, as far as it seems, their time has passed. Baal HaSulam, Rabash, and I are a transitional link, and all of my students, who are called a “group,” were born. They are created and trained to solve spiritual problems specifically between them and to lead others. That is how it was thousands of years ago. And then for the last 2,000 years in the period of exile, all of this disappeared and individuals in only a thin stream passed on the wisdom of Kabbalah. But now everything is returning full circle.

Question: So have we reached a state where everything began as a circle and will finish as a circle? After all, wasn’t the Sanhedrin a group like that?

Answer: Yes, it certainly must be a group. A group is similar to the Creator. This is a unique connection where we are together and each of us begins to subordinate and nullify himself to the center of the circle (the “minus”). All of our longings and intentions for the future are gathered in the center of the circle (the “plus”). It is precisely the plus and the minus that transform us into being like the Creator.

Ultimately in the center of the circle we begin to feel the Upper Light. The Creator wants us to defeat Him. He created the egoism and we need to correct it such that we will feel the Creator. We will perceive and discover Him. Therefore, it was said, “my sons have defeated me” (Baba Metzia 59a).

For Rabash’s Memorial Day

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaruch Shalom HaLevi Ashlag (RABASH) was the closest to us link in the chain of the great Kabbalists, through which the upper force reveals itself to the world and passes the Torah to us. He is our upper degree and the only spiritual Partzuf on which we depend, and therefore our study is mainly based on his articles. Rabash did everything to prepare the foundation for the future generation that will come.

Although it wasn’t simple, he found strength to fully annul himself before his great father and teacher Baal HaSulam, without making any calculations for himself. Thanks to this he attained all the spiritual degrees. We are yet to see from his works how high he had climbed. His works are written in a very warm style, with the great care about the reader, a student.

He had a very wide, warm heart full of love. However, if we were able to comprehend the depth of his works, we would see that he was at the state of GAR of the world of Atzilut and even higher, which is hard to imagine.

Rabash paved the way for us by writing articles and setting customs that we try to keep. He gave us the form in which the Kabbalistic group should exist, and we continue this way.

Baal HaSulam was like the ARI, creating a methodology for spiritual ascent, and Rabash brought it to the practical implementation, and in this he was like the Baal Shem Tov. I have never seen such a detailed description of the order of spiritual work in any other Kabbalistic writing: how a person should organize himself in his immediate environment, in the wider one, in the system of the worlds, and in the relationship with the Creator.

All these systems that a person has to go through in order to reach adhesion with the upper force are explained in such a systematic form only in the articles of Rabash, and nowhere else. A person can take these articles and follow them because they will build the right attitude and concepts in him.

There are no other books like these. We don’t just receive commentary in the articles of Rabash, but precise instructions for what we have to do, what reaction to expect, and how to advance further. He explains to us the entire process we need to complete, the reaction we receive to it, and the internal states that our soul goes through.

I have read these articles many times, and of course I will continue reading them, and I can attest that they are concealed and not revealed. After a few years of study you will start to reveal an immense depth in them. You will suddenly see that Rabash writes about things you haven’t noticed, understood, and felt previously. These articles aren’t simple, but are very multilayered, and they become revealed in accordance to the reader’s readiness. They provide such support and assistance to the beginners on the spiritual path that we can’t receive even from the works of Baal HaSulam.

Baal HaSulam is a Kabbalist of great height, scientist, and researcher, and Rabash is a spiritual mentor, soft and loving, who takes your hand and leads you through all the states. Only when we grow spiritually will we be able to fully appreciate his significance.

Connection Beyond Distance

Laitman_721_03Question: How can we develop a serious connection between us when great distances and different time zones separate us?

Answer: This is not a problem! Even if we are in different worlds: you are in this world and I am already in another world, it doesn’t matter, we can be connected with each other. Believe me, there are no limitations!

It also makes no difference where we are. I have wonderful students in Russia and America. I love my students from all the South American countries very much. I feel their advancement regardless of the geographic location.

Don’t think that the students who are near me are the most advanced, definitely not! They may be more advanced in certain mechanical actions, but lately the dissemination that the Moscow group and a few other Russian groups have been doing is far ahead of the central Israeli group. Currently the American groups are also overtaking the Israeli group and catching up with the Russian group.

Therefore, I don’t see any obstacles for my connection with you and all the groups between themselves. It depends only on you.

If there is at least some small physical contact through the media and Internet, we can always be connected. And then we will move to such connection that exists in other planes that are a different type of waves. Then you will communicate directly with me, and we will be in contact with each other soul-to-soul, and no parallels and meridians will separate us from each other.

I promise you that! This is how I am connected to my teacher; otherwise, I wouldn’t receive from him what I do today. The Book of Zohar and many other sources tell us about such states.

At the moment we don’t feel the connection between us only because the concealment acts in us this way. In fact, we all are imbued by an infinite number of links! Let’s awaken them between us and you will see where you really are.
