Receiving Light Through The Teacher

laitman_582_01Question: A student receives all the Light of his soul through the teacher. Is the teacher the source of it, instead of the world of infinity?

Answer: If my soul, the teacher’s soul, developed before your soul and you happen to be my student, you receive from me according to the spiritual hierarchy. As my student, you are my spiritual child. The system of the souls is mutually connected. The souls that have undergone their correction partially or fully and have ascended to a certain level conduct the Light to the other souls.

Everything is arranged this way in a sequence. On one hand, you add your ego to me, and, on the other hand, thanks to your ego, I conduct the Upper Light to you. Then you also conduct the Upper Light to someone.

In fact you are already doing it but not consciously.

Surpassing The Teacher

laitman_597_02Question: Can a student surpass the level of his teacher?

Answer: He can. There are many such cases in history. One such example is Baal HaSulam who surpassed his teacher from Pursov, a small town near Warsaw. When Baal HaSulam realized that there was nothing more he could receive from his teacher and that his teacher was in attainment of the Creator, he left and went to Israel.

I wish everyone to surpass their teacher and to keep advancing and that you will have students who will surpass you.

A Student Or A Free Listener

laitman_530Question: According to what criterion do you decide if you are a student or just a listener?

Answer: A student is someone who wants to study with a certain teacher, to do what he says, to follow his instructions and receive from him.

A listener, on the other hand, is independent and can choose what he wants to do: whether he wants to listen or not. He is not obliged to anything in any way, and he doesn’t implement the method.

Hearing The Teacher

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can a person not only listen to the teacher, but also eventually hear what the teacher says?

Answer: Hearing what the teacher says is a problem. To do this, you must be in a certain connection with the teacher or with the Creator.

Hearing is the level of Bina, when a person can be absolutely neutral no matter what he hears about the teacher or the Creator. It is a level on which one only wants to hear and then fulfill as much as possible, but not necessarily since it depends on what the level of Bina is.

The level of Hochma, on the other hand, is the level of implementation.

What Does The Teacher’s Greatness Depend On?

laitman_588_03Question: Why is the teacher’s true greatness always concealed from us?

Answer: Because you cannot see anything.

Take me, for example, your teacher, you can look at me as much as like, but you will not see any greatness in me.

You will only see an old man who very much wants people to begin studying the wisdom of Kabbalah, not from his books but according to the original sources of Baal HaSulam and Rabash. You can take The Book of Zohar and the writings of the ARI, go ahead, but they are much more difficult and distant from us.

I am simply an expert, up to a certain level, of the method of getting closer to the Creator! A methodologist! And this is what I teach you.

The teacher’s greatness, just like the Creator’s greatness, depends on the student. The Creator is revealed to us only according to our feeling of His greatness. Why is He concealed? Because you don’t think highly of Him.

It is the same with the teacher, to the same degree. How do you know your teacher? You don’t know him. Therefore, everything depends on his greatness in your eyes. Only on that!

Everyone Is Unique In Spirituality

laitman_527Question: Everyone has a mission in this world. How is it possible to become like the teacher, with respect and love for him, but remaining on your own path?

Answer: You don’t become like the teacher, you specifically develop in your own way and form. Externally, as a result of a shared connection, forms of speech and grammar or something similar like the teacher’s may appear in you, but this has no connection to spirituality. Everyone is unique in spirituality.

Question: Do you suppose that not being like your teacher is the right message?

Answer: It makes no difference. Even if a student thinks one way or another, the curve always leads a person to the “straight line.” Sooner or later the students will understand and everything will work out. I don’t give guidance about this. A student must gradually understand everything for himself.

Just Ask More Of The Creator

laitman_528_02Question: What does it mean to practically treat the friend or the teacher as the Creator? Do I have to implicitly justify them like the Creator who cannot be perceived or understood?

Answer: The student should absorb what the teacher says and teaches him and accordingly behave with the friends to establish a connection in which the Creator is revealed. Everything depends on the type of the connection between them. You have to melt among the friends and become an embryo, a drop of semen in the womb, in order to attain the first spiritual attribute between us, the level of Nefesh, which is the smallest Light.

This is what everyone has to do with regard to others in the group of ten, which will create the precondition for the revelation of the Creator.

But it is impossible to do that on our own and so there is no need to yearn for that, since it is like wanting to fly without wings.

This is not the work we should do, and it is a problem if people wish to attain it physically. There is no need to put pressure on each other and to insist on physical actions such as hugging more, reading together, etc.

All you need to do is to ask more and more that the Creator do it for us since all our other requests and expectations are merely egoistic. When you turn to the Creator, the altruistic element is inevitably activated.

How Should A Student Treat The Teacher?

Laitman_165Question: How should a student who wants to advance in spirituality relate to the teacher?

Answer: A student should relate to the teacher as to the Creator. He should also relate to the friend in the same way since they are the means for attaining the revelation of the Creator. In the spiritual world, the means is identical to the goal.

Student And Teacher, Two Levels

Laitman_917_02Question: When can a teacher become a transmitter of spiritual energy for the student?

Answer: This is when a teacher can serve as a channel through which the Upper Light will pass to a student or at least help a student connect with a group of ten that will begin to absorb the Upper Light.

Question: But, doesn’t the teacher lock the student onto himself?

Answer: In the wisdom of Kabbalah, this cannot happen!

I remember my teacher Rabash, the last giant Kabbalist. He never allowed his greatness, his immense importance, to be seen.

Today, we read his articles that were written before my eyes. I remember everything that happened then, down to the last detail, the time of year when were sitting on a bench in the park as he wrote. I remember literally everything, even the background noises and voices around us. Today, when I read his articles again, I notice that I understand them more deeply than in the past, even though so many years have passed since then.

It is not possible to appreciate a teacher immediately, even though he doesn’t hide his inner world. No one is hiding anything from us. At that time, I thought to myself: “I am going to move in next to him. I will be by his side, and then I will shake him and take out of him everything he has!”

There isn’t anything to shake out. The teacher is ready to transmit everything. It only depends on the degree to which the student can understand him. Student and teacher are two levels.

But how can a student approach a teacher to receive, absorb, and take from him—this is another matter and is not easy.

Can A Student Become A Friend Of The Teacher?

laitman_528_04Question: What must a person or a group do for a student to become a friend of the teacher?

Answer: Everything happens gradually, as people rise, and they begin to appreciate the spiritual work and understand that they are not ready to do anything themselves.

They get rid of illusions and begin to better understand what spiritual elevation is. After all, spiritual ascent is not achieved through egoistic actions or efforts; you can’t elbow your way in.

On the contrary, the only possibility for advancement is to step on ourselves a bit, to get closer to others, and in this harmonious relationship, to try to find the place where the Creator is revealed. This place comes from the mutual integration of my properties with other people’s properties as a result of this interconnection.

The entire process happens gradually, and one who is studying with us will come to this.

Question: Is there a situation in which students can become friends with the teacher?

Answer: The concept of a student-friend or teacher-friend exists, but nowadays, this is rather vague. They generally say this when a teacher studies one-on-one with a student.

In general, this is certainly possible, even with many students, but not yet at our current level.
