Till Death Do Us Part

962.3Question: How can young people keep their family together if by nature we can only take care of ourselves, and at the same time can live happily in a marriage only if we take care of our partner? How do I make these changes?

Answer: When you get married, you must understand that it is forever, as it is said: “Until death do us part.”

It can be in any case of life. Even if some of you do not like it or like it, you continue because children appear. You get married or get married forever, once for a lifetime.

If you initially know this, then it is not difficult. Mostly, you build your life in such a way that it interferes with you less.

I know many couples who work 20 hours a day and see each other a couple of months a year. That is, it does not matter. It is not that they dilute their lives with this, but they know that they still have an obligation forever.

Question: Man’s nature is to take care of himself, and a person should understand that by taking care of another, he will thereby make this marriage happy. How do these two points touch?

Answer: You need to think more about the other, and then you will see that it fills you. It is very simple really. When you think about someone else, you think about yourself less directly, but through another.

And at the same time, the world is arranged in such a way that everything fits well. It is amazing! I would just advise this formula to be well thought out.

Comment: That is, you have now proposed two simple but serious formulas. First, I am getting married and getting married forever. We are connected forever. And the second formula is I take care of the other, all the time.

Answer: In this way, I get rid of all the problems. Strange as it may seem.

Beauty Imposed from the Outside

600.01Question: What is beauty?

Answer: What we consider beauty is a completely wrong idea imposed on us by society.

Having been born, we begin to develop under the influence of the world around us, which imposes on us all sorts of concepts: this is good, this is bad, this is necessary, this is not necessary, look how beautiful, how good, and so on.

This is how we were brought up by the school, the environment, parents, the media, everything around. Therefore, we do not have our own personal, specific definition of beauty.

In principle, beauty is what suits and impresses me in accordance with my biological and inner spiritual form. That is beautiful for me.

For example, if we ask a hippopotamus what is most beautiful, he will say: “Look at this female. What a beauty. What a body, what shapes, what a small tail she has, how touchingly it sways and excites me.”

For him, this is considered the standard of beauty because this is how his hormones work. But this is his and is not imposed on him from the outside!

Therefore, there is no concept of absolute beauty in our world. We see that each era has its own standards of beauty.

Saving Europe

419Question: Why does Europe represent the rigid backbone of humanity? It did not choose this role itself.

Answer: Nobody chooses anything. It is just that the egoism that exists in us must go through all the stages of its development. I personally do not blame anyone. I am just stating the facts and explaining the dialectic of development.

If freewill appears in us, then from this moment onward we can talk about something. And if there is no freewill, then we must go through all these states as we did.

Question: But can something help the Europeans?

Answer: Yes, they will have to go in the opposite direction of all the suffering that they have caused to other people. Mainly because they hated them as carriers of spiritual knowledge. They hated unconsciously, without knowing why, but it does not mean anything. They will have to realize all this and go through it; otherwise, they will not begin correction.

What will they need to correct then? They must realize this evil, reveal it, and correct it. Based on what will a person move forward if not on the revelation of evil and its correction? How will one reach the highest spiritual degree? All people must achieve it, each one on the basis of the evil in which he has been during all his cycles.

The Europeans in one way, the Chinese in a different way, the Japanese in a different way, etc. Everyone has gone through history in their own way, and everyone in their own way must realize the whole path of development of their egoism to begin correcting it.

By asking this question, you treat people, so to speak, in a human way, i.e., as material objects. And I treat them as a desire created by the Creator that must undergo all these metamorphoses and achieve correction, similarity to the Creator.

But to achieve this, a person must feel himself opposite to the Creator. Look at how much he has already done in contrast to the Creator. Now he must only realize the opposite and then correct it. These stages still remain. Europe will soon begin to feel them for itself.

There Is Only Grief Around, but the Creator Is Good?

284.05Comment: Alexander writes: “Michael Laitman, when you say that the Creator is good and does only good, what do you want from an unfortunate poor person? If there is only grief around him, then the fact that the Creator is good sounds like a mockery of him.

Your house is destroyed, this is good; your loved ones have died, this is good; you are forced to leave everything you have earned, this is good. We have to convince ourselves that all this is for our good, that the Creator is kind and does good, or how should we understand you?”

My Response: It is very simple to understand me. We must try to understand the laws of nature, and try to fulfill them and disseminate them. These are the laws of the Creator.

Comment: There are thousands of questions like this, especially in our time, and you continue to say that nature is connection and good and the Creator is good and does good. These questions multiply in conjunction with what is happening in the world. How can a person renounce what is happening in front of his eyes and in his feelings?

My Response: What he sees before his eyes is done by people, not by the Creator.

The Creator set conditions, and if we had fulfilled them, we would have lived completely differently. Otherwise, what do you do?

Question: These laws of nature, as you say, the Creator, should I know and fulfill them?

Answer: Never mind fulfilling them, but at least know them.

Question: Can you name the main law?

Answer: It is very simple: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Comment: We run into this formula all the time. But it’s not easy. You immediately say that this needs to be achieved.

My Response: You are talking about the law. I gave you the law. If this formula is not easy, what will you do?

Comment: So you are saying that we all need to know about this, all of humanity does.

My Response: Yes. The whole world is built on it. If you act in this way, you will be closer to the Creator and to fulfilling His law, the global law of all nature. What’s next? See for yourself.

Question: So I know that I can’t do it yet, I understand that I can’t, and you call this advancement already?

Answer: Of course!

Question: The fact that I understand that I cannot fulfill this law?

Answer: It doesn’t matter. But you understand that such a law exists, and in the end, ideally, if you followed it, you would be at the degree of the Creator.

Question: And who are you more for, for those who say and even write to us: “I am fulfilling this law” or for those who say: “It is impossible to execute it”?

Answer: Of course, it is impossible to execute.

Question: How can we fulfill it in this case? Do we have to think about it?

Answer: If we gradually connect for the sake of fulfilling this law, then we begin to acquire in ourselves within our connection qualities that begin to feel this law on ourselves, and gradually, gradually we approach it and its fulfillment. That is all.

Question: Are these qualities in us, or are they somehow given to us? You say, “They weren’t in us. There is no love in us.”

Answer: They weren’t in us, absolutely. We attract them. We attract them from above, so to say. From an upper degree.

Question: So there is our degree and there is a higher degree. It is here. Is our task just to reach out to it?

Answer: To draw it to yourself.

Question: Do I have to live with this thought that I want to draw this quality to myself?

Answer: Yes, to live for this.

Question: Is this the goal of life by and large?

Answer: Of course. It is to pull up to the love of one’s neighbor is the meaning of life.

Question: Tell me, will we ever reach a state when a mass of people…?

Answer: We can’t wait, we have to do it on ourselves. Then it will happen.

Question: Then will I stop seeing, let’s say, the way Alexander describes, that everything around is terrible?

Answer: I will see that everything is terrible, but it can all be fixed.

“Can Kabbalah be understood without knowing Hebrew?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Can Kabbalah be understood without knowing Hebrew?

It is possible to understand Kabbalah in any language. Moreover, it is desirable to study Kabbalah in one’s native language. However, at the same time, there are a number of Kabbalistic terms in Hebrew that one should learn in order to advance in the study.

For example, the Hebrew word “Partzuf” literally translates to “face,” but in the wisdom of Kabbalah, it holds a completely different meaning, and no term can properly express its spiritual meaning other than the word “Partzuf.” It is a similar situation with several other words. If you think of “Partzuf” as “face” and other words like “Rosh” as “head” and “Raglaim” as “legs,” i.e., the everyday Hebrew uses of those terms, then you will become completely confused and will miss the point completely.

These words and several others are the terminology of the soul, and we gradually come to perceive them as such the more we advance in the method of Kabbalah.

I thus think it makes no sense to translate these words. Likewise, in several of the world’s professions, many words remain in their original language. For instance, Latin is used in medicine, Italian is used in music, and all kinds of expressions in German and English are used in international technical languages.

“Do people who go out to space and look at the Earth from afar undergo any kind of special change?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Do people who go out to space and look at the Earth from afar undergo any kind of special change?
Indeed, people who go out to space and view the Earth from afar come back differently.

By detaching from us even for a short period of time, they come back with a different opinion about how we should relate to life.

They can then no longer negatively impact others because of their newly-gained global and integral perspective of everyone and everything: that we are small creatures living on the same small planet. Accordingly, they disagree with the negative connections we have established, where we exploit and harm each other day after day.

I think that we would transform our reality and our world if we could send us all—the whole of humanity—out to space and bring us all back. Doing so would pull us out of our current perceptual bubbles, and we would gain a whole new perspective outside of these bubbles.

Then, after exiting our previous bubbles, we would understand that life could be completely different.

We would then agree to change ourselves. We would even do so against our own will because we would gain a new lens through which we would view reality.

We would then become more mature and understand that it is incredibly childish to constantly struggle with one another in our limited lives here on Earth. Such a change of perspective to a globally-inclusive view of ourselves and our world would lead us to a major change for the better.

How Do You Transmit Spiritual Information?

509Question: What are the methods of transmitting spiritual information beside texts and sounds?

Answer: In addition to texts and sounds, there may be a direct connection between two people, what is called a common screen.

Comment: But you said that you can pass by a person who is in spirituality and you do not need to talk to him, you can establish a connection with him anyway. Just like when connecting two modems: one sends a signal, and the other receives.

My Response: Yes, you can say that. First, there is a rough adjustment with a common screen, and then it becomes gradually more accurate.

Question: But in our sphere, on the earthly level, spiritual information is not transmitted in any way?

Answer: No, of course not. You do not have these tools. Can you pour water over electric wires? They are completely different qualities.

The Origins of Hebrew

526Question: What is the difference in conveying Kabbalistic information in Hebrew and in Russian?

Answer: Kabbalistic information can only be conveyed properly in Hebrew because words and definitions in this language originate from spiritual states.

The fact is that Hebrew emerged from the attainment of the upper world. This language, as such, did not exist before, just as the people of Israel did not exist before the group of Abraham started to reveal the upper world, because it was due to its revelation that everything started to develop below. All this appeared from the contact with the upper world. From there came numerous religions, philosophies,
sciences, and so on.

Hebrew is the language that emerged in Adam during the revelation of the upper world. He began to write, explain, and teach his students in it. Twenty generations from Adam to Abraham studied according to his book Angel Raziel (Raziel HaMalach) and other sources. Mainly, all information was conveyed not in writing but orally.

Then gradually, according to the attainment of the upper world, it entered written sources. In such a way, the horizontal and vertical lines of the letters express combinations of the qualities of bestowal and reception, and the dots form vectors of the connection of these two forces. Therefore, each letter in Hebrew signifies a combination of both forces in the spiritual object it expresses.

“Why do we have to have natural disasters?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Why do we have to have natural disasters?

We receive major blows from nature ultimately in order to shake us out of the state where we live according to an egoistic paradigm—with exploitation, manipulation and hatred dwelling in our connections—to a state where we positively connect, as described by the words, “as one man with one heart,” i.e., as a single well-oiled interconnected and interdependent system.

In other words, if we shared a harmonious and balanced connection to each other on the human level, then the balance at our level would ripple throughout nature and we would experience nature harmoniously and peacefully, and natural disasters, as we call them, would become a thing of the past.

We would be wise to pay attention to the future states that we can achieve out of such blows: that the blows come to shake us out of our current dreamlike state in our egoistic attitudes to each other, and wake us up into an opposite harmonious and peaceful world.

In fact, we live in a world that is all good, and only we human beings give the world a negative form in our egoistic attitudes to each other. The time is nearing when we will awaken to the need to stop relating to each other through egoistic lenses—where we each prioritize self-benefit at others’ expense—and instead relate patiently to each other with positive, kind and caring attitudes.

If we made such a switch, we would bear witness to a good life, the likes of which we have never before experienced. We should thus try to reach such relations as quickly as possible.

What Is the Best Language for Studying Kabbalah?

209Question: What is the best way to study Kabbalah: in your native language or in Hebrew?

Answer: It is desirable to perceive Kabbalah in your native language, but at the same time, you need to know a couple of dozen, maybe a hundred or two hundred words in Hebrew. It is impossible otherwise.

If you say “face” instead of “Partzuf,” and “head,” “legs,” and so on instead of “Rosh” and “Raglaim,” then you will be confused. And so you, on the contrary, take these words as artificial to define the soul.

They are, in principle, taken from there. It does not matter that in our world we use them to refer to body parts. But in this case, it is simple.

Therefore, I think it makes no sense to translate these words. No one translates special terms in any language, in any specialty. For example, Latin is used in medicine, Italian is used in music, and all kinds of expressions in German and English are used in international technical languages.
