A wise man came and gave him a cure that helped him. Later, when he came to the doctors to do tests for his illness, they determined that he was completely well and there was nothing wrong with him. Clearly, at that time he is delighted and cannot say that he has nothing from which to derive vitality. Instead, his joy is immense (Rabash, Assorted Notes, 137, “The Lack Is the Kli [Vessel]”).

What are true spiritual pleasures? These are the pleasures of being connected and being able to mutually help one another; it is rising from our personal problems to common problems necessary for collective healing. In this case, we call upon the Creator for help, and He gladly assists us.

Our problem lies in uncovering the actual cause of our suffering and asking the Creator to free us from it.

Question: What deficiency gives birth to true spiritual pleasure?

Answer: The desire to be spiritually healthy.

Question: What is the kind of faith during suffering that can work for bestowal only with the help of the Creator?

Answer: It is a special quality—a person’s faith that; first of all, one is striving not for healing but to understand the root of healing, its cause. Then, a person finds the method of recovery.

Such faith always arises from realizing one’s helplessness so that a person finds the Creator as the cause of everything happening to them.

The intensity of the request to the Creator depends on understanding the reason for our condition, which is that everything comes from Him. Therefore, we must ask the Creator to come closer to Him to reveal the true essence of all existence. In this way, we can move forward toward healing.

Today we commemorate the memory of the great Kabbalist, Baal HaSulam. Rabash wrote about his father and teacher: “Baal HaSulam made it so that if an ordinary person follows his way, he can achieve Dvekut [adhesion] with the Creator just like a dedicated wise disciple.”

Over time it has become easier to fulfill this requirement of coming closer to the Creator, understanding and feeling Him, and establishing some contact with Him. In our days, every person must strive to attain adhesion with the Creator, and this is why we learn through the methodology of Baal HaSulam and Rabash how to achieve this.

Baal HaSulam brought about a tremendous change in the methodology of studying the wisdom of Kabbalah. Before Baal Shem Tov it was generally unclear how to advance in order to come closer to the Creator and establish a connection with Him. Thanks to the work of Baal Shem Tov, this methodology became clearer, but it was still not meant for ordinary people; it was only for great Torah scholars who had dedicated their entire lives to this. There were significant limitations on this path.

However, thanks to the work of Baal HaSulam, this goal became more achievable. Even a simple person, by learning from a wise Kabbalist, could now come closer to the revelation of the Creator.

That is, the strict condition that existed previously (of requiring one to study the entire Torah in order to proceed to the study of Kabbalah) that allowed only a select few to attain the revelation of the Creator and adhesion with Him is no longer in place.

After Baal Shem Tov this task became simpler and more accessible to a greater number of people. By virtue of their desire and aspiration, they could break through this barrier and through their prayer achieve contact with the Creator.

This simplification did not happen by chance but because the world is advancing and the entire nature of creation is revealed more and more. People evolve and are capable of understanding and grasping more. The desire to reveal and attain the Creator and to connect with Him is increasingly awakening in ordinary people who had not previously studied the Torah.

This awakened desire draws them to the study of Kabbalah, to reveal the Creator with its help. The only thing required of a person is to give their heart to this, to feel that their heart needs it. That is, a person simply needs a desire for revelation, as strong as possible, which draws them toward the Creator.

All secrets of nature are hidden in our unity—there is no other remedy for broken souls. Therefore, we use the method of Baal HaSulam in all stages: rising above egoism, joining into tens, and moving toward unification into one man with one heart.

Baal HaSulam expressed the whole science of Kabbalah in a new, rational, and very open form that it is difficult for the world to accept. He brought each person closer to his purpose. We only need to unite into one man with one heart and raise a prayer to Him from this unity so He will manifest in us.

On one hand it seems that time passes and all this cannot be done, but on the other hand, we see that generations are advancing to the extent that they can realize the conditions given by the spiritual environment.

In fact, this progress cannot be considered slow, as some complain. Apparently, we do not understand how huge, lavish, and simply infinite the whole universe is. At our stage, we want to perform actions immediately at the highest level. But until we achieve sufficient force of action and its required accuracy, we will remain on the path.

Only through connection with other people can we turn to the Creator correctly. The more connected I am to the friends on the path, the closer I am to the Creator. We need to enclose ourselves as much as possible within the boundaries of the ten, the Kabbalistic group, and inside it, we will find everything Baal HaSulam wanted to convey to us.

Every day we must try to raise the ten to an ever higher level. If everyone in the ten wants to do this and knows that their spiritual score depends on it, we will succeed.

I hope we will go through the holidays with full seriousness and begin to reveal what relates to our souls. Every day I see my students more and more collected, united, and in agreement with the steps the spiritual forces are taking us through. If we want to accelerate the ascent to the next degree, an attack is required from us through unification with the Creator.

Question: By canceling our egoism, do we cancel reality?

Answer: No. What does it mean, “I annul egoism”? Can I not enjoy it? Can I not feel anything in it? Do I just cancel it?

Even if we work on annulling every day, do we see that it does anything? It depends on how much you feel like zero, that is, nothing, worthless, compared to the Creator.

Question: But what is our reality? The more we learn, the more it seems that this is an unreal reality.

Answer: No, reality is real. Only we must understand that everything depends on our appeal to the Creator. To this extent, the Creator will make everything become real.

Question: Is our task not to try to solve anything ourselves but to once again ask the Creator to come closer to us and thereby accept any of His decisions?

Answer: Our work comes down to the fact that we want to be connected to the Creator, to adhere to Him, and that is it. After all, any other action would always be incomplete and imperfect except for the one that leads us to adhere to the Creator.

Therefore, we need to think about it, which is the easiest thing because we should not interfere with the Creator’s care for us.

Question: How do we interfere with Him taking care of us?

Answer: Perhaps with your wrong requests.

We must always strive to be as close to each other as possible, to help each other as much as possible, and to imagine as much as possible that we are in a continuous and great connection with each other. And to the extent of the quality of this connection, we can reveal the Creator. Attaining the Creator is our most significant task—something that the world lacks so much.

As a result, we will reveal the Creator to the whole world and thereby give Him maximum pleasure, since His property of good that does good is revealed to both sinners and righteous. Then the entire world Kli will be filled with the light of the Creator.

Question: Sometimes you say that the Creator does not exist, that He can only be revealed in bestowal and good relations between us. So to whom do we pray if the Creator has not yet been revealed?

Answer: It does not matter that the Creator has not been revealed relative to us. We simply ask Him to understand us, come closer to us, and bring us closer to Him.

Question: How can we feel the Creator’s desire toward us at every moment?

Answer: For this one must strive to be in bestowal toward the Creator. Then, through the equivalence of form, you will sense His attitude toward you. Through His response, you will feel that you have made the right step toward Him. And to always be ready for the Creator’s response, we must consistently and clearly approach Him, and not leave it from time to time, but continuously gain strength of pressure on the Creator, strength of drawing closer to Him.

Question: How can I verify that my prayer is sincere and that the Creator responds to it?

Answer: The Creator gives you such circumstances. What you feel in yourself as fulfillment is the Creator’s answer.

Question: What is this special prayer when I pray for a friend’s health? Sometimes no matter how much I ask, the friend remains sick. Something is happening that I cannot influence. How should I relate to this correctly?

Answer: You need to rise to the level where you can see that everything depends on you. Every person, all the people in the world, in every moment of life, depends entirely on you. So you just need to elevate this importance.

Question: What does it mean to create a Kli of the ten?

Answer: In order to create a Kli of ten, ten people unite to form one desire that they strive to realize.

If they are fully aware of it and are in it, this common desire is called a ten.

By fulfilling the requirements of unification, they begin to feel each other and the Creator.

Question: We have daily meetings of the ten. How can we sum up our unity at the end of the meeting and draw some conclusions to reinforce the Kli?

Answer: Of course, you can meet every day and discuss, but overall, even two or three times a week is enough to share your impressions of unification with your friends, talk about new things you can reveal in it, and how to rise higher and higher in unity, closer to the Creator.

Question: If we renew ourselves daily and start from a clean slate, what is the correct prayer for everything that was, is, and will be? Or should we focus on the present moment and ask for corrections now?

Answer: When we speak of what was, is, and will be, it reflects our attitude to the Creator as the source of everything. But if we ask Him to change us at the present moment, then we are talking about our immediate, moment-by-moment connection, and we turn to Him with this request.

Question: What is more important: to pray for your longevity or for the connection with you not to be broken?

Answer: Do not pray for my longevity or connection with me, but for your connection within the group and with the Creator.

Question: How can one stay focused on the source while suppressing one’s ego to achieve at least minimal contact?

Answer: It is by turning to the Creator and asking for the force of bestowal rather than the force of reception.

Question: I understand a prayer directed outside of me. We say, “Give me this, give me that.” But what should a  prayer “inside me” be? What is it?

Answer: Inside me is egoistic and outside me is altruistic, for the sake of others.

Question: Against the background of strength gained from the convention, I did not feel small; on the contrary, I felt like I was as great as our friends. Is it good to remain in such a state or should I humble myself a bit?

Answer: It is good to stay in that state. Do not be afraid to feel great. Just as a hen covers its eggs with its body to hatch them, you can act similarly toward others.
