The First Word of God

226Comment: You recently said, “First there was the word, and it was the word of God.” What was the first word?

My Response: “Bereshit.” There are Kabbalistic explanations for the word “Bereshit” that take thousands of pages. Thousands of pages! Entire treatises explain what Bereshit means. Because this word “Bereshit” contains absolutely everything! Apart from it, everything else is a consequence of it.

Question: Can “Bereshit” be translated as “at the beginning”?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Can you compress these thousands of pages of treatises into a few sentences?

Answer: This word “Bereshit” contains the essence of the Creator, the purpose of creation and its full program of development, up to the last state.

Question: What is the essence of the Creator?

Answer: The essence of the Creator is good who does good.

Question: What is the essence of the creation that He created?

Answer: The desire created by the Creator, which yearns for adhesion with the Creator, for coming closer to the Creator is called creation.

Question: Does it mean that the program of creation is to come closer to the Creator? If we yearn for coming closer to the Creator, do we fulfill the purpose of creation?

Answer: Yes.

Evolve not Technologically but Internally

963.6Comment: According to some studies, ultrasound radiation is harmful to the condition of the unborn child if it is conducted in the early stages of pregnancy.

My Response: Any phenomenon that we artificially evoke in nature is ultimately harmful to us. We must live in a natural way, the way we were created, without especially inventing anything.

Sages of the past thought about this, about not revealing the science to humanity, to force it to change internally and to gradually enter into an integral nature. Then it will be happy.

We have already gone through thousands of years of our egoistic development and only now we are beginning to understand that it is better to develop not technologically, but internally, and then we will enter perfection.

The Reason for the Creation of the Worlds

746.03And when upon His simple will, came the desire to create the worlds and emanate the emanations,

To bring to light the perfection of His deeds, His names, His appellations,

Which was the cause of the creation of the worlds,

Then the Ein Sof restricted Himself, in His middle point, precisely at the center…
(Ari, The Tree of Life)

The Creator wished to create created beings that would feel the need to reach His level—the level of the Creator. In other words, they would discover absolute emptiness in their original state and would want to be on the level of the Creator.

The Creator gives them the opportunity to rise from the state in which they found themselves at the beginning of creation to His state, the most perfect one, which means the end of correction.

In order for the created beings to gradually reveal the levels of the Creator, they were created in the lowest state and must slowly attain the Creator, that is, the more and more elevated state. Therefore, it is said that the creation of the worlds is a manifestation of His perfection.

Kabbalah and Interpretation of Dreams

49.01

Our life is twofold; Sleep hath its own world,

A boundary between the things misnamed

Death and existence: Sleep hath its own world,

And a wide realm of wild reality, (Lord Byron, “The Dream”)

Question: People have long been interested in the nature of dreams and dreaming. What is a dream from a spiritual point of view?

Answer: I have been studying Kabbalah for many decades and have not seen anything that coincides with what ordinary people say and think about dreams.

A Kabbalist has spiritual states, which are called VAK—incomplete attainment of the spiritual world. They can be called a dream. But the dream of an ordinary person in our world has nothing to do with this.

Therefore, Kabbalah does not deal with dreams, nor does it interpret dreams. All sorts of things are attributed to it, but in fact, there is nothing of this in Kabbalah.

Before the Beginning Of Creation

746.02Behold that before the emanations were emanated and the creatures were created,

The Upper Simple Light had filled the whole existence.

And there was no vacancy, such as an empty air, a hollow,

But all was filled with that Simple, Boundless Light
(Ari, The Tree of Life)

We are talking about the fact that the upper force created an empty space where the light appeared and filled it with itself.

Space is desire. If a person has a desire, he feels that there is some kind of emptiness inside him that he wants to fill. This empty space that wants to be filled is the place of creation.

Question: How can we consider all this? Like something that was before me or inside me?

Answer: Best of all, for now—outside of me. There is nothing, no time, no place, no movement. The maximum is that there is a sequence of events.

Can We Talk About the Creator?

289Question: It is said that the Creator has many names. How many are there and who gives them?

Answer: Names are many forms of manifestation of the Creator to the created being, that is, to a person who attains the Creator. Therefore, here we can already talk about a language.

Colors, smells, and all kinds of sensations, with all these means it is possible to describe the Creator. After all, people who gradually reveal Him, perceive Him exactly in this way. Moreover, these were special individuals, such as Moses, who wrote the Torah.

In our world, you have to rise above your ideas to a plane where you will reach extraordinary objectivity. There is nothing of your own in you, you want to perceive the Creator the way He is. Therefore, you must make a restriction on yourself, on all your knowledge and feelings, and then you can approximately talk about the Creator to the extent of your attainment.

You can reach such a state only by excluding your egoism from yourself. You have to become as if non-existent in order not to perceive the revelation of the Creator, His various influences on you in some form and be absolutely objective.

This is called “to make Tzimtzum (restriction) on oneself,” meaning to restrict all egoistic desires, qualities, intentions, and understandings in the heart and mind. If the Creator is the only quality of nature that does everything, includes everything, then the question is: How can we talk about Him without knowing this?

Here a problem arises: if a person does not make a clear effort to create the correct image of the upper force within him, which is the only one that includes everything, then he makes a mistake and depicts for himself a farfetched image of the Creator. This is a serious mistake that usually leads to big problems, I would even say tragedies, because everyone begins to transmit the Creator to humanity in the form he sees fit, that is, from his inner ideas.

Therefore, people create religions, philosophies, anything they want, based on nothing but their conclusions: “I heard a voice, I had a vision,” and so on for thousands of years. These ideas have nothing to do with reality or even with science, with anything at all.

Internal Code of the Global System

275Comment: Some scientists claim that DNA by itself emits sounds and it depends on its origin. For example, the DNA of a grasshopper or a tree or a person will emit completely different sounds, words, and phrases. In other words, the common intellect of nature, which once laid down the primary information in the form of words, is recorded on them. An organism reads this information and, in accordance with it, as in a genetic program, develops. They say that experiments with DNA confirm that this common program is impossible to destroy. If everything goes according to it, then there are no errors. If errors happen, mutations occur.

My Response: There are no errors and there are no mutations. It only appears so to us. Because our egoism transforms and we perceive everything in that way. There is nothing imperfect in nature.

Question: Who actually turned on this development, this program?

Answer: A thought, one single thought that represents the whole of nature. There is nothing in nature, but a thought. And everything that appears to us—inanimate, vegetative, animate objects, a person—is all a thought that we, who are also a thought, perceive this way.

A thought is waves, it is information.

Question: If all nature is a thought, then why do formative processes occur? Why do muscles grow from one group of cells, skin from another, stomach from a third one, etc.?

Answer: These are different types of information that manifest that way in relation to us. In fact by the concepts of “words,” “letters,” it is meant not our words and not our letters, but the internal code that defines each particle and its interaction with all particles.

Moreover, information about the entire system is recorded in each part. Furthermore, it is interconnected with all other parts. Thus, its internal code is not supported by itself, it is supported by the rest of the whole system.

The code of the global system cannot be destroyed because it is located in each of the parts. And it’s not like each of them grabs and saves its own code. The whole enormous system focuses it on them, and therefore each part exists in an eternal, perfect state, as if replacing with itself the whole system. In that way, we see a holographic picture.

In the World of Information

712.03Comment: I heard a story about an accident in a research lab that occurred in Germany in the 60s. The story goes that an employee accidentally dropped a tightly sealed flask of a toxin into a container with water and it wasn’t removed from the water until some days later. It was discovered that although the flask of poison was tightly sealed and its contents could not have mixed with water, laboratory mice that were given this water died. The water did not physically come into contact with the poison, but it nonetheless absorbed its destructive information.

My Response: The fact is, we feel the material itself: water, poison, still, vegetative, and animate nature.

Our whole world is a world of vectors, a world of forces. And we no longer feel them in the form of forces, but represent them in the form of matter in all its various forms. Therefore, if we break away from matter and turn to the world of information, to the field of forces, then we can see that almost everything around us and ourselves are a force field that carries and communicates with each other precisely with informational data.

In this case, it does not matter much how and where it happens: through some walls, restrictions, border conditions, what is the diffusion or the influence of the vector on the vector. All the same, informational data influences even at a great distance or while enclosed in a container like a glass bulb.

Therefore, even if it seems to us in our materialized world that bodies do not connect together, naturally they influence each other. Especially in delicate forces and in small doses.

Question: What kind of power is water?

Answer: Water is the general reviving force of our nature because we are created on the basis of water. In principle, we could have been created on other terms. But the quality of water is the quality of bestowal, the quality of transfer, the quality of revival, the kind attitude of one object to another. If water connects them, then positive information is transferred.

The Tree of Life From a Spiritual Point of View

243.05Question: Kabbalists very often used the term “tree” in their writings. It is clear that they were not writing about the tree as we understand this term in our world, but about the spiritual levels and states. What does the Tree of Life mean in relation to the spiritual development of a person?

Answer: The Tree of Life means that from the upper root, which is the Creator, a trunk and branches descend along which descend spiritual forces that nurture people, animals, and everything living in order to help them develop to the level where they become closer and closer to the Creator.

The vegetative world that emerges from the Creator exists in order to enable all living creatures and people to reach the level of the Creator.

From a spiritual point of view, the Tree of Life is an intermediate state between the upper Sefira Keter and the lower Sefira Malchut. That is why it exists to connect these two opposite categories: the Creator and the creation. In the form and to the extent that creation wants to become like the Creator, they receive this opportunity and unite with the Creator.

Comment: Very often, the Tree of Life is depicted in the form of a drawing with roots at the top and branches at the bottom.

My Response: Naturally, because the root is the Creator, and the branches are already lower, as cause and effect. The cause is always in the upper world and its effects are reflected in our world.

The Purpose of a Person in Life

219.01Question: You have repeatedly said that if a person does not listen to at least an hour of a lesson a day, then this, in principle, is a day thrown out of life. If we take our typical day, what things have to go through it in order for it to be effective?

Answer: During the day, a person should listen to my lessons, read the sources of Baal HaSulam and Rabash, get involved in communication with friends all over the world, and understand how his group, the ten, the closest environment to him, is moving. He must see what he is doing in order to somehow elevate himself up, at least in part. He needs to implement all this through dissemination, making contacts, and so on.

That is, his day should include studying and communication with his group, through it, with the Creator, and communication with the broad masses in order to bring them closer to a single system that strives to reveal the Creator.

This is a super-goal that a person should have in life. If he does not do this, then he is spiritually dead.

Comment: In the classical understanding of life, a person spends all day at work…

My Response: What difference does it make what he does physically? Today we have such a life that, in general, does not prevent him from performing his functions. But at the same time, his head, his goal, and life intentions can be completely different—directed toward a spiritual goal.
