The Terrorist Within Us

laitman_293Question: What is your attitude toward Arabs?

Answer: I don’t relate to anyone or anything in any specific manner. I see everyone as puppets. Even the one who draws a knife on me is managed by upper forces. When someone threatens to kill you, you should kill him first, and so I have no choice but to neutralize him.

However, once I catch him and tie him down, I must think about how to connect and unite the Jews. Then, I will be able to untie the Arab, and he will dance and rejoice with us.

Question: Does this mean that if you kill him, you don’t solve the problem?

Answer: This has never been a solution to any problem. But if your life is in danger, it says in the Torah that, when someone threatens to kill you, you should kill him first.

Question: How long do you think this conflict will go on?

Answer: It will continue until we correct it by the connection and unity among us.

The conflict refers to the conflict inside us. The terrorists and saboteurs are inside us. They are our desires that want to destroy the connection between us. If we destroy our internal damagers, then they will disappear on the outside.

The Solution To Terror, Part 4 – A Spring Of Goodness

laitman_936Question: The nation of Israel has never been and never will be united. It is time to wake up from these childish dreams. Your call to unite is nothing more than propaganda. The nation of Israel is so divided that there is no turning back.

Answer: Of course, because the separation of the people has been going on for two thousand years. The Temple was destroyed because of unfounded hatred.

There is no connection between us, only hostility and estrangement. And we don’t even feel how terrible our division is, because our hatred has been so disguised over the past two thousand years that we don’t even feel we hate each other.

The hatred stems from the fact that we come from different peoples that lived in ancient Babylon. This hatred was revealed among the Babylonians in its most extreme, critical form, but then we realized that there is no other choice and that we must unite. This is the reason we gathered around Abraham who taught us the method of unity.

The same thing is happening today. We must fulfill Abraham’s method together, but I am glad the nation of Israel has recognized this inner hatred and can see its true state. We hate one another, and we feel distant from one another. There is no mutual care among us, and there is no power in the world that can correct our situation.

It is a good thing that the truth finally has been revealed to us. We finally have stopped deceiving ourselves, talking enthusiastically about the extraordinary friendship among our people.

I can bring much more convincing evidence to show how unrealistic it is to attain any form of unity among the people of Israel with the means at our disposal. All of our dreams about such unity are baseless, and it is a good thing that there are people who understand that.

But there is another means to attain unity that people don’t know, and I am happy to tell them about it. If we establish a certain unity according to the advice of Kabbalists, we will feel how effective it is and how such actions generate the force of unity.

We spur the source of unity from the inside because, after all, it exists in nature. The positive force exists in nature! We only need to be like it, and then it will burst into this world and gush from the ground like a spring of goodness.

Israel – A Mystical People

laitman_749_02Question: In your opinion, will negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians and the leaders of the Arab nations bring improvement to the situation in Israel?

Not long ago, negotiations were arranged for maintaining the status quo of the Temple Mount, and it was expected that this would bring some calm. However, the next morning, the Arabs carried out three terrorist operations.

Answer: All these talks will lead to nothing. Humanity will not calm down. Our Arab neighbors will not calm down as long as the people of Israel themselves haven’t united between themselves integrally. This is the only solution and means of resolving this conflict.

If we want peace within our borders and security in our nation, we need to achieve unity among the Jewish people themselves. This may seem strange, but nothing else will help.

If we do this, the Arabs will stop their activities because the good relationships between us will be reflected in them and will obligate them to have a good attitude toward us.

Question: Isn’t this like some kind of mysticism?

Answer: Is the anti-Semitism all over the world, the general hatred toward this small people that totals several million people not mystical?

Is it not mystical that such a tiny people has brought culture, education, and all the elements of modern human society to all the peoples? Is it not mysticism that it hasn’t disappeared after thousands of years of exile?

The entire world has become integral and round, acting according to the laws of connection between the forces of right and left, plus and minus, and hot and cold. Everything is in balance, and it is only human beings who act only according to a negative force.

In humanity, there is no positive force! We need a positive force that will balance our ego. The method for awakening the positive force within a person is the method of Kabbalah discovered by Abraham.

He founded his group on its basis by gathering around him those Babylonians who agreed to connect and unite according to the principle of “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18).

That is how Abraham created a group that eventually grew and became the people of Israel. The Jewish people are not based upon an ethnic community like all of the other peoples, but on an ideology, on an idea. We are all different but connected above these differences, as it is written, “…love covers all transgressions” (Proverbs 10:12).

Only thanks to this principle have we existed for all these thousands of years, as soon as we separated, we immediately began to to be killed. In the Scroll of Esther, it is written that Haman, when he was a minister in Babylon, said to the king, “There is a certain people scattered and separate among the peoples … let it be written to destroy them…” (Esther 3:8-9).

So Mordechai came and united the people, which helped them to be saved, and today we again are facing the same need to unite.

An Excursion Into Kabbalah—The Path To General Harmony

laitman_222_0Kabbalah is a science like all the rest of the sciences we perceive in this world. Many generations have worked hard to develop it, consolidating and shaping it into a general system of very difficult knowledge, because this knowledge is about the system of management that is at a level higher than our world.

We can easily manage the inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature because they are below our level, although in principle we are all in the same world. And the step above it that the wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about is the level of the upper world, and there are laws there that we don’t feel here, and new general rules operate there that are not completely known to us.

Kabbalists, in their writings Talmud Eser Sefirot, The Book of Zohar, and others,  offer some explanation of the upper worlds. They wrote these books for themselves because it is very difficult for a person to understand the higher system without attaining it.

So, for example, it is impossible to tell animals about our lives, and even though we have many things in common with them because we are on the level of the beast like them, there is no reason to explain to our little brothers how we live. In any case, they wouldn’t understand.

So, the Kabbalists didn’t even try to explain how the upper world is arranged since it requires completely different sensory and intellectual connections. It is not a higher level that can be added through all kinds of schemes, computers and devices. Rather, it is a completely different system that we don’t have.

To awaken the creation of this system in us, the Kabbalists suggest that we draw energy from the upper world and use its characteristics. Then, under its direct influence, we begin to discover these characteristics within us and feel another reality. With these feelings, a picture of the upper world is formed, and the understanding of the system of control of our world.

Here begins the research: What does the wisdom of Kabbalah give us? Which signs do we get from the higher system of management of our world? How should one react to them? How is it possible to come in contact with the upper world? If this is the control system of our world, can we go back and influence it? Can we manage our destiny, all that happens to us?

First of all, Kabbalah enables us to understand what the higher management wants from us, according to what plan it operates. We feel our world as the space surrounding us, we feel various changes within us and in the world, but we don’t know what will happen in the next moment, what the forces of management are pushing us toward. We always seem to try to clarify correctly what is happening to us, what nature wants from us, but we are always wrong. Our lives don’t get better.

To the degree of our development, emptiness appears in us. It used to be that we only tried to organize our spiritual, family and social life, but today people have deeper questions: What are we living for?

We see how much the young are cut off from their parents. People don’t want to raise families. They question the meaning of life and they don’t find an answer. Therefore, it is hard to live; it makes no sense; there is no incentive.

Here the wisdom of Kabbalah reveals the picture of what is happening in the world now, how we are managed, and what response nature expects from us with its signals. It reveals a picture of our future states and shows us how they can be achieved: either suffering or through our correct efforts.

So, the wisdom of Kabbalah comes as a very practical and relevant science for our time. We are beginning to understand why it was hidden so many years. Humanity didn’t need it. People were busy getting along in their lives; they were only interested in their own welfare and nothing more. They were satisfied with the level of the beast.

But our time is a special time for the disclosure of Kabbalah that began when the world began to become round and was revealed as integral and interconnected, interdependent, and common. And we cannot cope with this world because we are organized according to the linear principle of “give and take.”

We don’t understand our dependence on each because it is above the physical level. We don’t know our connection between the still, vegetative, and animate levels of nature.

We don’t know how they are connected to each other, complement each other, and are in equilibrium. Maybe we can guess about this, but it isn’t in our immediate sensation, and surely not in the feelings of human society.

As long as everyone lived in his corner—work, home, family—everything was okay. But from the middle of the past century, the world began to close in. Suddenly, we discovered an absolutely different picture: mutual dependence. But we still can’t work with it.

We see constant clashes in different countries, the collapse of the family, . Families are breaking apart, children moving away from their parents, etc. Society is crumbling. All of this is because we are trying to apply the old laws of human society in the new current conditions.

We are in a completely different system of connection between us, whereas within us, this system doesn’t exist. Here, the wisdom of Kabbalah appears and explains how to build this system.

The fact is that the upper world is built on conditions of general, full and absolute interconnection, and if we correct ourselves integrally and join, we can feel it and understand in what manner it is possible to mutually cooperate with each other correctly, to arrange our lives correctly, and further, that outside of our world we also will begin to feel another reality.

Then, all of space will open, and we will feel ourselves as existing eternally, not just in our beastly body, but interconnected into one unified system called Adam. This is the state that we must reach.

So, the key to eternal happiness exists in revealing the system of management of the upper world. It exists here, next to us, yet we don’t have the senses to feel it. Our corporeal (beastly) senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch are sufficient only for a small fragment of the overall picture of creation. So, the wisdom of Kabbalah describes our level as the animal level.

But now we begin to feel the need to manifest a higher level of existence. In humans, there are questions about the meaning of life, its origin, and what happens after death. However, the inability to find answers to these questions lead us to depression and despair. But the fact that such questions arise just in our generation is good. Therefore it has merited the disclosure of Kabbalah.
To be continued.

The Solution To Terror, Part 3 –The Concept Of National Unity

laitman_259_02Question: The concept of national unity and the revival of the people has the smell of fascism.

Answer: If a person cares about himself, his family, his party, or his people, it is always possible to accuse him of fascism and nationalism.

But everything depends on the intention, that is, what goal he wants to achieve: to control other people who live outside of his nation or within it, or to bring good to them.

According to this criterion, it is necessary to examine the intention and not stick a label on it. If I call for the unification of our ranks and unification of the people, then first and foremost, it is necessary to examine the goal of this unity. Is it for the benefit of the world or to harm it? Otherwise, these are baseless accusations.

Not all unity is fascism. Can the Kibbutz movement be called fascism? Everything depends on the answer to the question of for what are we uniting? I don’t intend to cause harm to someone through our unity, including harming the Arab population in Israel.

Every people must protect its uniqueness, its characteristics, its views and inclinations. We attain unity above all these differences, and this is what acquires all the richness and diversity of unity.

It seems to you that unity will make everyone into robots with identical faces. This is certainly not talking about unity of this kind.

However, we see, on the one hand, that the world is becoming more and more mutually linked, but on the other hand, each people is becoming more and more developed and isolated. So, how is it possible to connect these two tendencies together? Each one aspires to stand out, but all of these individualists must connect, be inserted under one umbrella.

We must attain unity like this without damaging the individuality of any person or any people.

Our Strategy Is The Unity Of The Nation

laitman_629_2Question: I understand that, when you speak about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, you reveal the root of the problem, but if I’m attacked with the intent to kill me, what am I supposed to do?

Answer: You should kill the assailant first, but that doesn’t help solve the conflict. You only temporarily get distance from the problem, but don’t get out of the situation.

After 2,000 years of exile, we were returned to the land of Israel in order to unite and become a single people. Only in this way can we change the world in giving it a new system, a new paradigm, a new view of humanity.

Today, humanity has become integral, global, connected, and completely closed around this small planet. We are experiencing a single system that is mutually dependent, and only our good, mutual relationships can save humanity from destruction.

The correct relationships are found within the Jewish people, and we must reach unity and connection, as it is written, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” It is possible! Only in this way can we become compatible with nature and reach a normal, calm, and good life. Nature doesn’t agree to less than that, and it pushes us to this.

Question: But man who is on the level of this world demands death to the terrorist! He wants to stop the conflict with force because the terrorists are only afraid of force.

Answer: It won’t work! Because the world has its own laws, which are more internal! We see that America, Russia or any other country is able to do what it would like to do.

Moreover, no one will come to protect us. To the contrary, everyone is ready to trample on us, and we have no friends in the international community. However, they will appear if we begin to realize the system of integral, mutual cooperation between us. Then, everyone will change their attitude toward us immediately! We are not dependent on anyone else for this.

Question: As much as I understood, our tactic is as follows: If someone comes to kill you, kill him first.

Answer: Yes, this is because if you are killed, you won’t be able to realize yourself, you won’t be able to begin to unite and connect with others. So in this case, you need to get ahead of the attacker.

But our strategy is to unite the nation.

The Solution To Terror, Part 2–Cross National Education Not Utopia

laitman_263Question: How do you intend to unite the people if 40% of those living in Israel believe in the coming of the Messiah, 40% believe that we can reach a peace agreement with Iran, ISIS, and the Palestinians, and 20% hate us and dream of throwing us into the sea? Is it utopian to think some unity can be achieved here?

Answer: Of course, unity is not possible with the split that exists among the people and within each individual. And so we say that “love covers all transgressions”—this value will be the foundation of a new nation-wide education.

We accept people the way they are, without any suppression. It is only through education with explanations that ensure they understand that we need to unite above all our differences. It is very good that the nation of Israel isn’t a gray amorphous mass and that it has many currents and opinions.

People are boiling and seething with hatred and anger, and we shouldn’t extinguish or gloss over these feelings as other methods do. Over all these differences, we need to learn how to build a strong, reciprocal connection that is, in practice, love.

Although you hate those around you for some reason, you must love them. We need to learn how to integrate with one another and build within ourselves love instead of hate: love of others, of the Creator, and of yourself.

Thus we connect the two worlds. We hate anything that doesn’t belong to our “I,” and therefore we have to start connecting to what is opposite to us. In this way we build a vessel for attaining the upper world.

It is impossible to make everyone like you so that you would feel comfortable with connecting to them. You need to love others not because they are similar to you, but because you have a common goal to be one nation, to defeat your enemies, to find a solution for life.

How can we attain such unity above our egoism? There is the method of working in circles, where we can create a special force that doesn’t exist in each of us separately.

But if we connect and unite according to certain laws Kabbalists have prepared for us, then we create the force of unity between us despite our differences. This force helps us attain unity above hatred and to cover all the sins with love.

How Will The Next Generation Look?

Laitman_049_02Question: From the point of view of Kabbalah, what will become of the current younger generation that is growing up in an atmosphere of violence and terrorism?

Answer: I hope that though our efforts, and I say this with complete responsibility and great hope, this generation will be wiser than their parents.

They will understand that there is no other way out of the present situation but uniting and creating a powerful force between us that will affect the whole world. This is what we can do.

Imagine any other people now, for example, in Switzerland or in Finland, where everything seems to be fine. I was there not long ago and I know their lives first hand. They are in an inner state of subconscious waiting.

Immediately after the Second World War was a time when the peoples of the world secretly hoped that we would bring good to the world. But from the 70s of the last century their attitude to us began to change.

They understood that we want to be like all other peoples, and that we aren’t exerting a positive influence on them, denying them a quiet, tranquil life. Anti-Semitism is growing, and has begun pressure Israel. And today you are wondering about it.

If we look back five years, there wasn’t yet such a boycott from the United Nations and other international organizations. In Israel we were fed “candy,” lulled by what doesn’t exist. In fact, the world has risen up against us.

And all this comes from the upper management! We need to understand that this force is behind all of nature, so the imbalance between people is caused by us and directed against us. It is a system of forces, and not some kind of single entity called God that decided something. I say this as an investigator of nature.

When Will The World Support Israel?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If we compare Israel to other countries, we can see it isn’t worse here than in other places and it is even better.

Answer: The problem is that you are comparing us to other countries. Of course, in many respects Israel is a better place and the relations between people are warmer, but this is in comparison to other countries.

I compare us to what we should be and to what the world demands of us.

If we don’t unite, nature will drive us to happiness with the stick of affliction: by another Holocaust, pogroms, wars, and other sufferings. Kabbalah warns us. But we can play our trump card and come to unity quickly and comfortably. It depends only on us, and the rest of the world will follow us. In line with this, we will receive the world’s support or blows accordingly.

Many Kabbalists wrote about the unity of the nation. The last Kabbalist who spoke about it in a way that is closest to us is the great Kabbalist Baal HaSulam who lived in the first half of the 20th century.

In his book The Last Generation, he describes a complete social system of social security, protection, and mutual assistance, a system in which everyone cares about other.

This is basically what Marx wrote about in his time, but he wasn’t properly understood. The Marxist interpretation of human evolution was quite close to the truth. This is the reason Baal HaSulam tells us how we should understand Marx correctly because Marx was followed by several opportunistic movements that totally distorted his ideas.

According to Baal HaSulam, we must first educate people and only then teach them to care of one another, mutual responsibility, which is what we call mutual guarantee, Arvut.

Of course this isn’t an instant transition to a brighter future. But as soon as we begin moving toward each other with mutual support and mutual care, toward a round society, our world will immediately begin to change.

Do you want the Intifada to end? Start taking the first steps toward one another and you will see how all of our enemies suddenly will fade. Today’s enemy will come to help you tomorrow and will do it whole-heartedly because the world is a common system, and you control the good force entering our world to create its harmony with the power of evil, egoism..

People will begin to feel that they are one family, will stop cutting each other off on the road, will stop scheming against colleagues at work, and surround one another with care and attention. Then, all of the other nations will feel at ease; tensions will subside. And it all will be thanks to us. Today they say we are to blame for all their problems.

Question: But the better off we are, the worse they will feel. They will see this and will want to destroy us.

Answer: No, the good state between us will be conveyed unto them. Suddenly they will be able to balance their social and political system, the relations in their families, in society, and everywhere. Otherwise, they will not succeed and will continue their attacks against us.

The Solution To Terror, Part 1–The Secret Weapon Of Unity

laitman_943Question: You say that the only means against terror is the connection and unity of the Jewish people through the method of Kabbalah. Does that mean that instead of soldiers we need religious people who study the Torah?

Answer: Baal HaSulam explains the difference between those who study the Torah in the ordinary religious sense and those who study the true inner part of the Torah, which means the wisdom of Kabbalah, by which they correct the world.

It isn’t about keeping the corporeal Mitzvot (commandments) but about the main Mitzva of the Torah, which is the love of others: the love of all the people of Israel. Our main work is in our intention.

Baal HaSulam divides the nation of Israel into non-religious people and those who are connected to the upper force. The latter are divided into those who engage in the inner part of the Torah, which means the wisdom of Kabbalah, and those who engage in corporeal Mitzvot.

When we speak about the method of uniting the people of Israel, we speak only about the internal intention, not about corporeal Mitzvot.

Question: Don’t you think that there is a much simpler solution, like closing Gaza, which will put an end to terror?

Answer: I am not an expert in military strategy, but I only know one thing: even if we had all the weapons and all the money in the world, and the rest of the world would have nothing but the hatred they feel towards us, we would not be able to live securely either.

After all, the hatred the world feels toward Israel is ignited from above in order to guide all of creation toward adhesion with the Creator. Therefore, any action in this world, whether economic, social, or military, will not help, except one: our intention to unite all the people of Israel.

A group that adds the right intention to bringing the Creator contentment, that is, to realizing His desire to do good unto His created beings, should lead this unity process. In order to do that, we need to turn to all of humanity and connect everyone with the upper force, as it is written: “My home will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.”
