Question: What is your opinion on the truce and ceasefire between Israel and Palestine? How did you take it?

Answer: I take it in a very straight-forward way, my opinion does not change. Since the Jewish people came to this country, they must know why they are here. They did not just run away from earthly problems, they came here to demonstrate their goal and their spiritual purpose to themselves and to all the nations of the world.

If they do not do that, then of course they cannot live on this land. Other nations can more or less exist here somehow but not them.

Therefore, I am not very happy that we took over this land and that we are behaving in this way here. Year by year, we are becoming more and more egoistic, we are not setting an example to other nations of how we should live even within our own people. There are huge contradictions between us, all sorts of egoistic relations that do not exist among other nations. Thus, we are not in the Land of Israel but in exile from our spiritual properties of connection and love.

Therefore, I do not see any special circumstance in the fact that after the war, which gave us a little shake, the so-called truce came. If we, the Jews, especially those who live here in Israel, do not change, then the world will not change. We will continue to live in a state of not even a truce but just a temporary ceasefire, and we will again be forced to fight.

Our neighbors will not leave us alone. They will continue to prepare an increasingly sophisticated war, and each time these wars will become more serious. We have a very serious enemy. And this is natural. This is as it should be because we are not fulfilling our historical role.

The conclusion of Operation Guardian of the Walls marked the end of yet another round in what seems to be a never ending conflict. After every round, we get some rest, but it is always shorter than we’d like, and the relentlessness of the enemy is tiring and wearing down our motivation. At the same time, we have nowhere to go, so we cannot afford to pack up and leave; it is a battle we cannot afford to lose.

While it seems like there is no end to the conflict, in fact, there can be an end to it, and it depends on us. First, we need to realize that neither military operations nor peace treaties will solve the problem. Dividing the land among Palestinians, Jews, Bedouins, and whoever else wants a piece of it will not solve anything and will not end the violence, since the conflict is not over territory, religion, or nationality.

It is an essential conflict whose purpose is to bring all of humanity to recognize the purpose of creation, the purpose of our own existence, and the purpose of the existence of nations, countries, religions, cultures, and races. This conflict is at the core of reality. This is why it seems inscrutable and insoluble.

When we solve the Palestinian Israeli conflict, we will balance the entire world, all of reality. Subconsciously, people feel it, which is why this conflict and this region are always at the center of attention. People rightly feel that their own well-being depends on what is happening in the Middle-East, and specifically between Israel and its neighbors. When we balance our relations here, it will resolve every other imbalance the world over.

The balance that we need to find will connect us to one another, and subsequently to the origin of creation. This origin, which we may call God, Allah, or any other name, has created all the contradictions in reality. However, it created them balanced and harmonious. Day and night, ebb and flow, winter and summer, male and female, attraction and rejection, birth and death, everything is balanced and the existence of one supports and is dependent upon the existence of the other.

We, humans, have disrupted this balance because we only focus on taking and receiving, and we strive to give nothing in return. This is why we exploit natural resources indiscriminately, even at the expense of the future of our children. This is also why we conquer, humiliate, and enslave other nations. In our effort to feel good about ourselves, we denigrate, patronize, and belittle others in order to make ourselves feel superior. Indeed, all our troubles come from the imbalance within us.

The Jews, whose nationhood was established uniquely through the oath to unite “as one man with one heart,” were the first to rise above the natural human predisposition for selfishness. This is why they were appointed to be the “light unto nations,” to set an example of unity and thereby show other nations how to unite above their inherent self-centeredness, balance themselves, and subsequently lead the world to balance.

Indeed, throughout history, when Jews united among themselves, the nations supported them. When they divided among them and became belligerent, the nations disparaged and reviled them. In the days of the First Temple, Nebuchadnezzar II conquered the land of Israel and destroyed the Temple only after Jews became spiteful toward each other and “stabbed each other with the daggers in their mouths” (Yoma 9b). Later, when they united while in exile, King Cyrus gave them back the land and helped them rebuild the Temple.

During the period of the Second Temple, when Jews were united, the nations would “go up to Jerusalem and see Israel … and say, ‘It is becoming to cling only to this nation’” (Sifrey Devarim, 354). When they divided and wanted to become like the Greeks, in whose kingdom they lived, they broke into war, the Seleucids conquered the land, and they freed it only after they united under the Hasmoneans.

But the Hasmoneans, too, did not maintain their unity as power struggles drove them apart, which brought upon us the Roman rule. The latter conquered the land and made Judah a Roman province. However, the Romans, too, would have been completely content to let us lead our lives according to our way, had it not been for the inner struggles among us and the corruption of our leaders that forced them to appoint their own procurators (governors). Finally, we broke into a full blown civil war and sought nothing but to exterminate one another. The end result of that war was the destruction of the Second Temple, and the exile of the remnants of the nation, and the slaying of the majority of their coreligionists.

Today’s Palestinians are doing what the nations have always done with regard to Israel: They are pressuring us to unite and become the example we must be—not for our sake, but for the sake of the world. This is why the world supports them. Since it is indeed our duty to unite and become the world’s example of unity, where all the opposites are balanced, the Palestinians are right to be angry with us. Nothing we will say or do for them will pacify them until we do what we must: unite among ourselves and thereby become a light unto nations.

Our choice is simple: Set an example of unity and win the world’s favor, or keep nurturing mutual hatred until the world expels us once again and executes us like the Nazis.

My new article on Linkedin “Jews Are Sitting on a Powder Keg”

There is a sense of imaginary peace after the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, but abroad, the fuse of antisemitism is again lit and flaming. Jews both in Israel and basically anywhere in the world are in a constant war for their lives, looking to their backs, keeping an eye on their surroundings because danger can arise at any given moment from both obvious and unexpected places. What else do we need to face up to in order to understand that the world has a problem with Jews? Both Israel and the Jewish people are basically standing alone. Therefore, the only place to find a solution to the hatred is between us, in our willingness and capacity to unite.

Since the beginning of Operation Guardian of the Walls launched by Israel to defend its population from thousands of missiles attacks from Gaza, there has been a sharp spike in antisemitic incidents around the world, as well as international condemnation of the Israeli military response. The perpetrators of these antisemitic attacks deliberately singled out and targeted synagogues and Jewish institutions. The incidents occurred in broad daylight and included verbal and physical aggression against Jews in the plazas, restaurants, and streets of major cities across the United States, Europe, and Latin America, among other locations.

American Jews say they fear to identify themselves publicly as Jews. Some have taken off their Star of David necklaces, some have considered removing the mezuzot from their homes, and some even hesitate to walk to their synagogues.

So one may ask why is it that Jews are taking the hit for Israel’s actions which have been judged as wrong and unjustified by the world? Very simple. People have a problem with Jews in general. Therefore, they lash out against the State of Israel, against the Jewish people, and will be happy to erase both completely.

Our enemies point out very precisely that what needs to change can be found with us, within the worldwide Jewish community. We need to reconnect to and strengthen our common identity as a people whose existence is eternal because we were given a special role to carry out in the world: to unite in love above all differences and to help others do the same.

Within this united amalgamation, our differences will remain, as they are an integral part of the fabric of who we are, but rising above them is mandatory. We can either annihilate the threats against us by establishing unbreakable connections above whatever separates us, or our enemies will annihilate us without mercy.

Foremost Kabbalist Yehuda Ashlag (Baal HaSulam) wrote about the tendency of the Jewish nation to draw closer together when danger lurks: “It is the common suffering that each of us suffers being a member of the nation. This has imprinted within us a national awareness and proximity, as with fellow-sufferers. This is an external cause. As long as this external cause joined and blended with our natural national awareness, an odd kind of national love emerged and sparked off this jumble, unnatural and incomprehensible” (The Nation). But now, we see that even in times of trouble we are not banding together!

Until there is a need for a connection between the factions we have built in our far flung Jewish community, and until we transcend the conflicts and arguments that incite hatred between us, the external wars will not stop. They will only become more intense.

Many Jews in the Diaspora are trying to disassociate from Israel, and by doing so, they increase the pressure on us inside Israel and cause the realization that we stand completely on our own. Each community will stand alone then if that’s what they want. They can unite and take care of themselves for their own sake. And those living in Israel will have to do the same until we reach the critical integration necessary to face our existential threats.

In the final analysis it comes down to this: The more we indulge in indifference to our only mission—the crafting of the unity subconsciously expected of us by all the nations of the world—the easier it will be for our enemies. Our enemies will not even have to fight with weapons; they will need no rockets or missiles. What for, since all of humanity is ready with its forces, systems, and fronts to fight together with Hamas against Israel? All of humanity—from America and Russia to faraway China—everyone. In every country in the world, in every government, there are enough people who will be happy to abolish the legitimacy of the State of Israel and the people sitting in it and to wipe us off the face of the earth.

It is difficult for us to hear that the source of the problem lies with us; it is difficult to realize the enormity of our role and the responsibility placed on us, the reason for all this hatred directed at us. It tends to enter one ear and exit from the other. But we must listen and act with all haste. The heart of the Jewish nation is very broken, shattered, and grounded within egoism, but there is no choice but to strive at every moment to reach the connection between us until our collective heart begins to awaken and beat. Once we realize our mission and unite in love, we will discover that sitting on a powder keg need not be our destiny. Instead, our loving unity will create a peaceful garden around us where we can calmly sit.

Signs of the “End of Days”

Comment: The idea of the opposition of light and darkness is not new in Judaism. This is written directly in the Dead Sea Scrolls, which were found in the 50s of the last century near the Dead Sea, in the Qumran caves.

My Response: This idea was expressed by those who already at that time felt that they were living in this period.

Question: The scrolls were written from the 3rd century BC to the 1st century AD, exactly at that time. Moreover, there are certain signs by which we can say that this war has already begun. For example, it is written that the war will take place in the last days before the arrival of the Messiah. This is the first condition.

What are these “last days” and what does the arrival of the Messiah mean?

Answer: The arrival of the Messiah means that power, knowledge, and illumination are coming into the world, that all nature are all in one single system and we must achieve absolute connection with each other, become similar to the Creator, and rise to His level.

Thus, people will tune in to this because they will encounter such problems that they will not be able to solve within the framework of their earthly life, either in their own power or in their minds.

Comment: One of the conditions is also that all Jews must gather in the land of Israel.

My Response: I do not think that this must necessarily happen physically, but everyone will feel themselves more or less belonging to the land of Israel.

“Earth” (Eretz) comes from the word “Ratzon” (desire). “Israel” (Yashar-El) means straight to the Creator. That is, a consistent direction to revelation of the Creator, to connection with the Creator, will awaken in people, not in the field of religion, but in the field of internal communication, attainment.

Comment: Numerous original sources indicate that our entire development lasts 6,000 years. Today, there are just over 200 years left until the end of the correction. This, as it were, indicates that we are, as they say, in the “last days.”

My Response: In fact, earthly years play a rather indirect role here. But all the same, I do hope that even in our time we can live through such events that will bring us closer to the state when the whole world, all peoples of the world, all desires at all levels will feel that they are governed by one single desire from above.

This is a desire for goodness, connection, and mutual love. And all creatures—inanimate, vegetative, animate, and, most importantly, human—will wish that only this single power reigns in them.

Israel has always known how to pull together when the guns roared. Not this time. It has been creeping in for several years now, but in this campaign, the malice in our midst has defeated the necessity for unity. As soon as the rockets were launched on our cities, politicians from all sides broke out in a war of words, blaming each other of incompetence, indecision, and opportunism. As the days passed and Israel’s military tactics proved successful, these same politicians scrambled to attribute the success to themselves and deny it of their rivals. And all the while, each faction of the nation sided with its own politicians and chided their dissenters on social media, news media, and anywhere they could.

Socially, we lost the war as soon as it began, and if we lost the war on our solidarity, we’ll lose the land, as well. The Talmud writes (Yoma 9b) that shortly before the ruin of the Second Temple, the people of Israel, but mainly the leaders of the country, were so spiteful toward each other that they would “eat and drink with one another, [yet] stab each other with the daggers in their tongues.” This, according to the Talmud, is among the key reasons that Nebuchadnezzar II conquered Israel and exiled its people to Babylon. We are well on our way to a similar fate.

If we are to avoid the fate of our ancestors, we mustn’t wait for our leaders to save us. They are immersed from head to toe in their power struggles. They will not listen to us, just as they do not listen to each other. When you watch them on TV, it is obvious that they are there to talk, and for no other purpose. They speak the whole time they are on the air, cut into each other’s words, and in the resulting cacophony, you cannot understand a word. I cannot watch them anymore.

Therefore, we have no one to rely on but ourselves—the unity of regular people who understand that division means destruction of the country. Only if we begin to work on our unity, above all our many differences, our so-called leaders will gradually understand that they, too, must move in this direction, too.

War on the Spiritual Level

Question: It is written in The Book of Zohar that Gog will come from the north. Therefore, according to Christian tradition, it is believed that the last war between the forces of darkness and light will most likely take place in the north, near Mount Megido. From the name of this mountain came the word “Armageddon” (Har-Megido).

“Har” means mountain, Megido is a place 10 kilometers from Afula. It is called the Lowlands of Israel, and for thousands of years most battles have been fought there.

Why will the power of Gog come from the north?

Answer: Because a fearsome force always comes from the north. North is that part that does not like the world, always bullies, always manifests itself as Gvurot (harsh forces).

Question: How will humanity know that the war of Gog and Magog has begun?

Answer: I think that they will not know. I hope that all this will happen on a spiritual level and no physical actions will be required. We will only see how everything calms down and returns to normal with the exception, perhaps, of a few instances that an ordinary person will not notice. I really count on that.

At least, according to Kabbalah, we strive to shift this from military actions, suffering, and death, to man resolving it within himself and with others.

It has been another difficult day in the life of Israel. It is not enough that we have to fight a war on the front line, against missiles aimed at us.

Now the war has broken out right inside our home, dispelling the illusions that we know how to act and keep the situation under control. In fact, we do not draw the right conclusions about the current state: where it comes from and why it occurs.

We are already used to the fact that the entire world is against us, but we do not solve this problem, we do not feel that it depends on the unity of the people. We must finally understand the source of this centuries-old hatred and how to correct it. Yet, we again want to put a temporary patch to continue in the old way. We hope that the problem will resolve itself or we do not think that it is possible to solve it at all. Meanwhile, our opponents are getting even stronger and more skilled.

We need to understand the principles of the founding of the State of Israel, of the unification of the people. All the natural foundations on which other nations are based do not work here. After all, we do not come from the same father and mother, from the same ethnic root, like all other nations; rather, we were assembled from different nationalities. Therefore, there can be no natural unity between us. We need to connect above nature, but we do not want to.

Our connection must take place above our roots because there are the seventy different roots in us of the nations of the world existing on earth. We need to connect all of them together within one nation. After all, our nation was gathered from the natives of ancient Babylon, and we are the physical and spiritual consequence of this assembly.

Therefore, our connection can be implemented only on the principles of “They helped every one his friend” and “Love your neighbor as yourself” that are laid down in the Torah. If we do not enshrine them in our foundation, then as we develop, we become more and more separated and we will not be able to exist in this form.

Safety must be provided for us from above, from the Creator. To the extent that we unite, even if only a little, we will suddenly feel what strength, safety, and wisdom we are acquiring, which will convince even our enemies of our right to this land. In that case, they will even come to us and be happy to join us.

All conflicts have only one reason: the fact that we do not fulfill our purpose. No matter what claims are made to us by different groups, nations, and governments, in fact, behind all the words there is only one claim that we are not fulfilling our duty to the entire world, which is to bring it to unification.

There is only one solution: to understand quickly what the historical mission of the Jewish people is. Then we will understand our role in this geographical place, in the land of Israel. From all this, we will understand that only connection between us for the sake of fulfilling our historical mission, that is, to be an example of how it is possible to connect above egoism, will make us the light for all the nations.

Nature pushes us by the latest events and awakens us to think about our destiny. If our hearts are deaf to its calls, it puts us between life and death and forces us to find a solution.

This issue should be at the top of the agenda and put up for public discussion. Otherwise, the situation will become aggravated again and again and get worse and worse.

There will be a respite for a while, but then the conflict will return with a new force. After all, we have created a country as if we want unity, peace, and connection in it, but we do not want to come to this. It turns out that other nations who found themselves together with us in this country are opposed to it and hate us, and at the same time live next to us.

Imagine that you let a couple of your enemies into your apartment. Would it be possible to live in such a house, or will you always be in fear and tension? It is impossible to establish order in such a country, and none of the politicians have any plan for how to resolve this conflict.

Time after time, it will escalate further. Yet, the Creator still gives us some time to think and start acting. However, we are not moving in the right direction, toward the connection of the people, which is the only place for us to draw strength from, as it is written in our sources.

Connection should be not just in words, but in thoughts, in awareness, in understanding of our mission, our common goal. Then it will be a true correction of the people of Israel, and through it, the correction of the entire world, which is also in a difficult situation with the pandemic. There have already been times in history when a smallpox epidemic claimed the lives of half of the European population. Do not wait for such disasters.

The situation in Israel is such that everyone remains with their own opinion and there is no agreement. We are not even trying to reach a consensus. On the contrary, we will find more and more differences between us that do not allow us to unite. But at the same time, we will look for a way to connect above all the trends and opinions, and that is where it will be a true unity.

We should not hope that we will understand each other and feel each other and in this way we will unite. Everyone should rise above himself, not so as to connect one opinion with another, but to rise above all of them and there find a point of connection between all of us.

Such a unity will eradicate all external threats because there will be the upper force in it. The Creator gathered us from seventy sources, human roots, and therefore we cannot find a connection and understanding between us. Only by rising to our special and single root can we succeed and connect in it.

To do this, it is necessary to fulfill what the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches: everyone annuls himself and tries to connect with others, in which, “They helped every one his friend.” And all together we will connect with the upper force, the force of bestowal and love, above the personal egoism of everyone. Then we will feel that it is in this form, as if soaring above the earth, that we can exist, and this is our eternal and happy life.

Give Israel an Opportunity to Prove Itself

Question: According to The Book of Zohar, all the kings that persecuted Jews throughout history, such as Sennacherib, Nebuchadnezzar and others, will take part in the war of “Gog and Magog.” How do we understand this correctly?

Answer: All ideologies, even those that once ruled in this world and then failed, will rise against Israel again and again in order to enable Israel, the middle line, the power of interconnection, love, and unity, and direction to the Creator, to demonstrate itself.

Comment: In The Book of Zohar it is written that in the future the Creator will resurrect all the kings that oppressed Israel and Jerusalem: “He will give them power, and they will gather the rest of the nations in themselves, and will fight against Jerusalem. And the Creator will openly reward them near Jerusalem in the future, as it is written: “This will be the defeat with which the Creator will smite all the nations that fought against Jerusalem.”

My Response: The Book of Zohar allegorically describes all spiritual actions. It is clear that it does not imply any connection to reality, to bodies, places, wars, and forces. All this is 99% resolved only in the spiritual world.

And in our world, there is only some kind of shadow of this, a small insignificant copy, completely invisible to our eyes. This manifests itself, for example, in the form of some kind of a small conflict between peoples, between countries, so that they reveal this basis a little, and then come to the common denominator.

Jerusalem, proclaimed as the capital of Judea by King David and the modern capital of the State of Israel, is a city with rich history. It is revered by all three major world religions and has therefore been a constant site of controversy. Several times it was destroyed and occupied by invaders, and yet it survived and prevailed through centuries.

What is the essence of Jerusalem from the point of view of the science of Kabbalah? Jerusalem is a holy place and of all the other places on earth it is the closest to the spiritual world. And in Jerusalem, there is the Temple Mount on which the Temple stood, a special place where there is a connection between the material and the spiritual world.

And therefore, Jerusalem and the Temple Mount are attractive for all three of the world’s monotheistic religions, and people are eager to get to this place and somehow touch it. Therefore, in the millennia that have passed since the time of King David, there have been many attempts to capture Jerusalem. What hasn’t it experienced in its history? And this is not surprising because it is truly a unique place, the most spiritual place in this entire material world.

Jerusalem (Yerushalayim) means perfect city (Ira Shlemah) and also absolute awe (Ira Shlema). Interestingly, a city already existed on this site before the people of Israel entered the land of Israel, which was then called the land of Canaan. Later, this city was named Jerusalem.

Jerusalem also means the city of peace (Ir Shalom), but nevertheless, this city has never lived in peace and tranquility. It was always the center of disputes, all sorts of problems, and strife. But if we talk about the future, about the state to which this city should lead people, then Jerusalem is meant to become the central capital of the world. This will be felt and understood by everyone, and Jerusalem will receive a special status, which it partially already possesses today.

Even today, Jerusalem is considered the heart of the world, the center of the three main world religions. But for the time being, it is the center of discord and all kinds of problems that are revealed in the world between nations. And therefore, it is not obvious that this city unites people around it. On the contrary, disputes and conflicts constantly flare up there.

However, in the future, when the people of Israel fulfill their mission to lead humanity to peace, tranquility, unity, and love, then love for one’s neighbor as for oneself will spread and unfold throughout the world, and Jerusalem will receive the status of the city of peace.

In the meantime, the opposite is true as long as the people of Israel do not correct themselves. Jerusalem will remain a city of war, religious disputes, and division.

The people of Israel must behave in such a way that the dome of peace descends on this city: love, unity, mutual understanding between all currents and religions. Unfortunately, today it is quite the opposite. And it depends on the people of Israel, on how they fulfill their duty to be the light for all nations, that is, to show everyone what love and unity are. Only in this way will Jerusalem become a perfect city.

Between Esau and Ishmael

Question: The prophet Ezekiel says that first the war of Gog and Magog will be wedged between the sons of Esau and Ishmael, and then they will unite and go against Israel. What does it mean?

Answer: Esau and Ishmael are those who associate themselves with either Islam or Christianity. And Israel is in the middle, it has no other ideology except that any desire that arises in nature, because all nature consists of desires, should be directed only to bestowal and love, to the connection of each and everyone, which means to the Creator.

The mission of Israel (the middle line) is to show that everything in nature can come to balance, tranquility, mutual good connection, only if we direct ourselves, each and everyone together, to the Creator, that is, to the one common denominator, to the common source from which we came and to which we must return.

Ishmael is the right line, Esau is the left line, and Israel must merge them into the middle line.
