Question: Suppose that a task is imposed upon a group of three people. Each one has his own calculations, knowledge, task, and experience. They can carry out the work however it will go, but they can also create group intelligence. All the time, by increasing the emotional connections, they increase their ability to think. Is there any limit to this process?

Answer: Yes. And here it is very important to check what the obstacles are above which people connect. If it is difficult for them to get closer to each other because of unpleasant behavior among the members of the group, internal conflicts, and rejections, but in spite of it all they succeed in connecting above this, then the difference between the level in which the ego is in control and the height that they rise above it to reach unity gives them an intense emotional connection.

Question: And so in order to get a brilliant solution, I must gather the most egoistic workers into a single collective. What must they do in order to unite?

Answer: Yearn for a single mutual feeling. This means that each one thinks positively about the others, submits and contracts himself, rises above his personal feelings, and begins to love the other as if this other is the closest person to him.

He sees the most wonderful and ideal person in the other and wants to do good for him in any way possible. At the same time, he doesn’t obliterate the feeling of hatred; rather, he consciously builds a connection of love above it.

For this we conduct a series of special meetings in which we clarify how each one must rise above himself, contract his ego without obliterating it, but only contracting its activity. It is how we need to nullify ourselves in order to be included with others and to feel them as they are and not as it seems to me that they are. I want to be included with another person as if I don’t feel anything in regard to him, not love and not hatred. What does he want? What does he love, what does he hate, what is he attracted to? What are his tendencies, preferences, and plans? I want to appreciate him; this is the main thing.

Question: Learning about a colleague or two at work is not difficult. And if we are ten, does this mean that I must appreciate each one of them?

Answer: That’s right! Each one nullifies himself to feel the others. And in the next exercise I don’t need to nullify myself, rather I feel myself greater than all of you, ready to fulfill all of you.

From here it follows that to check what the other is missing, I must reduce myself and be included with him without my ego. I must be like an undetectable sensor, creating no interference. And in order to fulfill him, I must use all of my ability. This means that in my ability to fulfill, I am already greater than all. I am not the smallest in a group, rather the greatest. And then I have a positive influence on them.

Question: How is it that thanks to the atmosphere of good attitudes between us we attain the best solutions?

Answer: The idea is not in the atmosphere. The ability to build a new integral feeling and new integral intelligence above the nature that separates each of us, this is what is important! Create something similar to the collective nature that makes it possible for me to find a solution on a higher level than the level where each of us is found, even if he is Einstein.

Question: You say that the Maccabees were fighting for a spiritual, altruistic approach for the sake of the world and for the sake of the place of the person within it. How exactly is the spiritual reality connected to relationships between me and other people?

Answer: It determines the principle of, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” The person comes to a perception of the external reality in that he begins to place the other above himself. And this is the difference between the Jewish approach and the Greek approach. That is what the Maccabees were fighting for.

Well today, the egoistic approach is typical of everyone, including the Jews.

Question: How are these two approaches connected to a relationship with the Creator if in principle this is talking about relationships between people?

Answer: I try to go out of my ego, out from my personal interests, towards others. We build relationships like these in a group where the friends become more important in my eyes than I am to myself.

Everyone in our group wants to attain the perception of a higher reality, but for this we must go beyond the limits of our five corporeal senses, rising above them. And we rise when we place a new sense based on bestowal above our egoistic perception, on love of others.

The Kabbalists described this work in a very precise and clear form. And if we act in a form like this, then among us we discover that some kind of altruistic force surrounds and envelops us. Previously it evaded our perception, whereas now we feel that we must discover and feel it.

For this I must become like it, acquiring a similar power of bestowal and love. Only to the degree of inner changes like these can I feel the upper force that dwells outside. Otherwise, I simply cannot absorb it, I am blind to it.

But first we are born as “Greeks,” each one focuses on himself. This is absolutely natural, also it cannot be otherwise. It is said: “…the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth” (Genesis 8:21) and further, it is said: “I created the evil inclination” (Kiddushin 30b). In other words, it is specifically the creature, the ego, the evil inclination, which dominates every person.

The wisdom of Kabbalah says that it is necessary to rise above this essence, to transform the ego, and instead of hating the other, loving him.

Question: For whom is this “operating system upgrade” designed? Is it just for Jews or for everyone?

Answer: It is for everyone. Each one is ready for this if he has the appropriate inclination and drive for this. And gradually, with the general development of humanity, we will reach a time when this inclination will be awakened among many. Everyone can, and ultimately each one will be obliged to “upgrade.” Starting from the current stage, over several generations, everyone will come to this.

Question: Suppose that a person, in his work on himself succeeds in creating an inner change like this. What does he get from this?

Answer: He acquires life in another world where only the power of the Light dwells, meaning the power of bestowal and not the power of reception. The person identifies with it and finds himself in a world that is all good. There is no more competition; there is no evil, but only eternity and perfection.

This is what we acquire when we change ourselves, rising above life and death, above evil towards the good.

This “upgrade” is not realized by someone outside, it is not through a “click” on some super-computer; rather, we ourselves carry this out. I do everything by myself, consciously and deliberately, and so I feel and acquire the entire reality of the creation.

Question: A study was conducted among people who were divided into groups of five people. Some of the groups were composed of people with a high degree of intelligence, and the rest of the groups were people on an average level but with a high capacity for empathy and connection with other people.

All of them received the same task. Surprisingly, in the groups with emotional potential, the results were higher than in the groups with high intelligence. How is this possible, that with an emotional connection we are working with a higher intelligence?

Answer: Our substance is the desire to receive, and what happens within it is called “feeling.” First of all, we are based on desire, emotion, and with our emotion we are ready to absorb more, to feel more deeply and expansively, so this requires our intellect to develop.

Suppose that I lack the sense of hearing. My brain doesn’t need to absorb sounds, identify them, connect into a single image, create all kinds of sounds, and learn with them part of reality. As a result, my intellectual ability is reduced.

In the study that you mentioned before, in the group that was connected better, there was attainment of a higher and deeper general feeling. The members of this group developed a higher group intelligence with their connection. So they could solve problems and understand the situation better than people with separated intelligence who were not connected.

It follows that the main thing is not the amount of participants and not personal attainments, but the power of connection. Specifically this is what awakens the mind to a new form and new intensity of development. The mind becomes integral. Because it absorbs all kinds of feelings from people who want to connect with a shared emotion, so it must also be shared.

So a single image is created from them, “as one person with one heart” and one intelligence. This is an absolutely different qualitative level in comparison to wise people of separated intelligence with scientific diplomas. They can be great psychologists, but if there is no connection between them, they are not ready to attain a quality like this.

Question: From my experience I know that if different components connect, the result will be a particular amount. Whereas here I feel that there exists one further component that is unknown. What is this component?

Answer: This is the integral component. We don’t connect units to build ten, but from ten we build a single whole.

Question: We know that the Maccabees didn’t fight only against the Greeks but also against the Hellenists. What is this conflict about? Is it about two opposite ideologies?

Answer: The concept of Hellenism is a perception of reality, a paradigm, a worldview, a philosophy, and a perspective of the world. The world perceptions of the Greeks and the Romans were totally egoistic.

They claimed that man is in the center of the creation and that it isn’t bad and it isn’t a mistake. Man was considered a perfect creature, which means that his evolution has been completed and that he cannot change his nature. According to this perception evolution could only be:

• Physical—sports and Olympic Games;
• Rational—the fabrication of myths and fantasies, which were common in those days.

The wisdom of Kabbalah is the approach that allowed the Israeli nation to come out of the universal Babylon, which is the basis for all the other perceptions, including the Greek perception, and the natural evolution of the desire and the mind in order to attain a good life in this world. All the other perceptions regarding our nature refer to this world.

That method is based on absorption, on perceiving, and on receiving with the help of the raging ego that constantly develops in a person. This force is like a tight spring that is released inside us constantly pushing us to different pleasures.

Thus we cook inside our ego, each in his own pot, and all of us together in one giant pot. This process helps us advance scientifically, culturally, in sports, and in other aspects that make our life more comfortable. Thanks to the ego that constantly burns inside us as a part of our nature, we build fantastic things to satisfy ourselves.

But there is an opposite approach according to which our nature is basically evil. Why?—Because it isn’t for connection between people but leads to separation between them. After all, each one establishes relations with others only for one’s own benefit. Therefore, this approach is flawed and destructive.

My nature forces me to take advantage of everything that goes on around me, everyone that is around me. It is all for my benefit. This is a natural desire, my innate attribute. At any given moment I weigh my moves in order to use the world egoistically.

This leads to detachment because we are in a continuous struggle between us, in competition, which is the basis of the ancient Greek culture. The Olympic Games are a clear example of that. Eventually the Greek approach requires the use of others for our own benefit.

On the other hand, our nation believes in totally different values. Abraham gathered his students and explained to them that they were to establish a society that should live on the principles of mutuality, unity, and love. The essence of the Jewish approach means that the other is more important than me.

This perception that Abraham initiated was carried on through Egypt, Mount Sinai, and the land of Israel and was accepted until two thousand years ago. The principle remained unchanged—to constantly develop for the benefit of others so that they will be more important to me than myself.

But what do I gain from that? After all, this approach is also based on the ego because we have nothing else but that.

Such an attitude towards others allows me to exit my nature, to ascend above my limitations, above my body, and to feel the world through the others who are dearer to me than myself.

This is exactly how a mother sees the wellbeing of the world through the wellbeing of her own child. It is as if she dresses in him and then she doesn’t operate according to her own desires but in his benefit.

If I dress that way in all of humanity, I will see a totally different perfect world regardless of my attributes, my desires, and my limitations.

The Greek approach is based on absorption, while the Jewish approach is based in bestowal, on exiting myself, which allows me to discover the force of nature that operates on the outside. In addition to that, I acquire the force of love and bestowal by which I explore all of reality.

The main thing is that I discover the upper force, which created all of the spiritual reality that operates in bestowal and also the corporeal, egoistic reality that operates in receiving. I know the general force and ascend to its level. When I detach myself from the egoistic desire of my body, I ascend above it to an eternal dimension of love and bestowal. Why is it eternal? Because it is whole and lacks nothing.

On the other hand, Greek perception can eventually contribute to a person during his short corporeal life and that’s all. Since all its goals don’t exceed the framework of the physical existence and the body isn’t eternal.

Question: Lately the topic of a person’s spiritual development has become very popular. More and more people are beginning to be interested in the wisdom of Kabbalah. The word “Kabbalah” awakens lots of curiosity among people, but few can explain what this truly is.

For many years a multitude of myths, rumors, opinions, and secrets have been generated around the wisdom of Kabbalah. What is the true, original, and authentic wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah is accompanied by so many myths because it was concealed for many years. As an explanation, I can bring a personal example from my life. I was born into a family of doctors. My father was a dentist and my mother was a gynecologist. Both of them were experts in their fields and in our home a whole room was allocated as a library

All of the walls of the room were covered with bookshelves. My children’s books were on the bottom shelves at a height accessible to me. And the more I grew, the higher I could reach and take books from the higher shelves. I remember that at the age of ten or eleven I was terribly curious to see what was found on the higher shelves where books about gynecology stood. But everything was arranged such that I could not reach them.

From this example, it is understood that every age is typified by its development, and that there are things that need to be known and there are things that are still too advanced to understand. It is necessary to wait another year or two or three and receive knowledge to the degree of your development. Only in a circumstance like this will it be absorbed correctly and be beneficial to you.

When we buy books or toys for children, we ask for what age the toy is intended, for children of three, five, and so on. That is how we can buy what is appropriate for a child. This was the same situation with the wisdom of Kabbalah for many years. The wisdom of Kabbalah had to be revealed to humanity at the moment that humanity was ready for it.

And it also was not revealed at the same time for everyone since there are different parts of humanity. On the face of the earth there still exist such tribes that live just about the same way as in ancient times, in jungles. There are people who are more developed and who have established some kind of civilization, but in the meantime, they lag behind other very developed nations who manage a modern way of life and who cannot imagine how it would be possible to get along without a computer, the Internet, or a cell phone.

In accordance with this development, it is necessary to reveal new knowledge to people. So now we are also discovering new remedies and new phenomena in nature that we didn’t even suspect thousands of years ago. Previously we were not yet ready to discover all of this or use it correctly.

The wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about the forces that manage our world. In principle, there is only one force that is divided into a multitude of forces that act on all of humanity, on the levels of the still, vegetative, animate, and on the entire universe. This is talking about a network of forces that manage the still substance of the universe and the natures of the still, vegetative, animate, and human on the face of the globe and that leads everything towards some kind of goal.

According to our development, we gradually discover the laws of physics, chemistry, biology, zoology, that is, the sciences about the nature of the still, vegetative, and animate. And there is another science about the human level, about people, but it must be revealed on a particular level of a person’s development, when he can learn and use it correctly.

It is impossible to give an atomic bomb to the residents of an ancient tribe. This is because without being aware of the consequences, they would immediately explode it along with themselves and the whole world. So wisdom that speaks about human transformation and elevation to the next level of existence, instead of the simple benefit to which they have grown accustomed on the same level, is a very unique wisdom.

Answer: Of course, I believe that our place is here and that we should become a united people, as it says “become Light unto the nations.” We can do it and then we will really reach another level of existence people can’t even imagine. The wisdom of Kabbalah tells us about it.

In any case, we will have to unite as one man in one heart. When we fulfill the principle of love thy friend as thyself among us, the positive force will flow through us to the rest of the world, will connect all of humanity, and then the world will reach absolute balance.

The levels of the still, vegetative, and animate nature already exist in perfect balance but not the level of the speaking. Man’s origin is from the monkey and he differs from all the other animals because he has an egoistic element and lacks the opposite altruistic element. He only has the minus without the plus and we should acquire this plus. But we have turned off the tap of the positive force and don’t allow it to flow into the world. Therefore the nations of the world are in a state of minus and they blame us for it.

We have to turn on the tap so that the positive force will flow through it to all of humanity. This is called being Light unto the nations. It can only be fulfilled by the connection between us, and we can do it.

Question: There are about a million Russian speaking Jews living in Israel. What is their role in your opinion? After all it is very hard to communicate with them,

Answer: We can explain things to them from a scientific perspective or in every possible way by physics, through an anthology of…

Comment: But they should feel it and not try to understand it rationally.

Answer: Only a strong shock can bring them to this state, and this is undesirable. Let’s hope that we will be able to find a more liberal approach and thus reach them.

Question: Unfortunately, the positive force is revealed among us when different problems arise. For example, twenty thousand people attended the funeral of the soldier who was killed in Gaza. I also strongly identified with everyone, but what can we do so that the positive force could be revealed in ordinary situations? I expect that you will say that the answer lies in education.

Answer: That’s right, it depends only on education and it cannot be done any other way. If we want to change things in Israel the only answer is unity. Nothing else will work and we have already seen that. No government can do it but only the people though the right connection between them, which the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us. It is the basis of our existence and today it should be rediscovered.

Comment: How can we approach the Russian speaking population with the concept of Kabbalah? After all, we will have to explain to them that it isn’t about religion.

Answer: It is intentionally arranged that way so that both you and they will have to work on yourselves. This is how our ego places obstacles along our way. But let’s hope that we will be able to cut down the afflictions.

Comment: You have said that Israel will actually be the safest place on earth.

Answer: Israel is the most sublime, safest, and happiest place on earth. If we begin to work correctly, there will be no chaos here, and it isn’t only Kabbalah books that tell us about that. Answer: My condition is I demand fifty million dollars! This immediately creates tension: Why so much? What intentions does he have? They immediately see that I am exactly like them: I am interested in money, power, and honor. This is so that their attitude towards me will be as it is towards everyone.

This is a long training process that includes a multitude of activities. Ultimately, the feeling of the connection between them into a single whole itself becomes important for them. So the game becomes only a means for them. We reach the desired result: We play not for the sake of the game itself but for the sake of general harmony and the feeling of connection and unity. There are no differences between them; we exist like some kind of cloud, as one body with one heart. And the audience is also included in the action as if they are in a vortex, they connect with the team and feel the game as if it were alive. Regular soccer, in which there is nothing besides competition, finds a new life!

Question: How must I relate to a situation where a member of the group should have given me the ball and didn’t do that and ran towards the goal by himself?

Answer: At that moment you must control yourself, overcome your anger. You must play with him in complete harmony as if he were 100% right. At that moment you say to yourself that as far as it seems, he hasn’t understood his action correctly. It could be that he didn’t see the whole situation.

You behave with him the way you would towards a child. Let’s say that your child wants to help his mother wash the dishes, and eventually breaks a plate. But you forgive him because he wanted to do something good.

Question: This seems like a very high state requiring a change in education.

Answer: Right. Here it is important to understand the degree of responsibility. Now the soccer players could easily move from one team to another. But in bringing them up towards a spiritual reward, none of them will want or be able to abandon his friends.

It could be that they will come to us complaining that on the one hand, they became alive but on the other hand, in their profession they are no longer ready to work with other people. The rules of the game of this world often don’t leave us with much choice. But it is in our power to change them.

Question: How has the worldwide culture influenced the people of Israel and what do we need to restore the confidence in our ancient spirit?

But instead of this more and more conflicts and clashes appear. Russia and America have again returned to the Cold War, except that both China and South America have been pulled and drawn into it. The Arab nations are in a state of hostility and hatred towards Israel and among themselves. Conflicts exist everywhere.

That is how the forces that want to distance the nations from each other are acting. But likewise, there is one general force that connects everyone together. It follows that the world must unite; this is its general trend. All of nature ultimately reaches balance and connection.

But the people of Israel are not bringing the force of unification to the world. The force of unification is the force of the Light. It is written that the evil inclination, the egoistic desire that separates people, was created and in addition the Torah, the Light that Reforms, was also given.

The Torah is a unique Light that corrects the force that separates people into a force that connects them. This is the force that is found in the Torah, the force of the Upper Light. We are ready to attract this force. This is a positive energy that exists in nature, but it is necessary to attract it.

If we don’t attract this force into the world, then it will bring its extinction, global wars, and terrible suffering. And the nations of the world feel this and have already begun to blame Israel now by pointing to us as being to blame for the suffering of the world.

Question: Do you want to say that because the people of Israel are not learning Torah they are not allowing the Light to enter the world?

Answer: Under the concept of Torah we mean the wisdom of Kabbalah, which is the true inner part of the Torah. It is simply necessary to learn how the world is built, how a person is built, what kind of Light we must attract. and how we attract it. But in principle, this is talking about connection between people.

Question: Each of us lives his life with the typical hardships, successes, and disappointments. We would like to make our lives happier, but the question is how? Where do we get the feelings of warmth and security?

Answer: The answer is in our mother’s womb, then in her arms, and then in the warmth of our home and hearth. We gradually draw away from it, but our inclination to preserve these forms remains, although we want to be independent in our ego.

What is more, we see that our ego begins to soften with regard to the way it feels the community that we establish as we participate in the discussion circles. I look at what I can give up in the ego. I don’t really annul it, but it simply begins to help me incorporate more and more in the life of the community and to feel that I belong to a greater circle. Thus, our ego can function as “help against.”

When we developed only egoistically, we continually destroyed our community life. However, now, when we restore the community—at least in the form of a game—the ego that feels the pressure begins to help us. It isn’t annulled, but takes on a new form. This is called integral community education.

Let’s hope that we will be able to attain it. We thus balance the general global force of nature, and it connects humanity according to our inner inclination. When the two forces that influence us become harmoniously balanced, our life will become happy.

Question: Why do I need this game between the force of good and the force of evil? Wouldn’t it be better if there were only one force of good?

Answer: By this egoism, our whole lives are spoiled because it wants only one thing—to feel good. It does not understand that the force of evil should be used in the same way as the force of good, bringing them both into balance. It is uncomfortable for egoism.

Question: What do you mean by the balance between the good and evil forces? I want to be in harmony with the good, but how can one be in harmony with the evil?

Answer: There can be no harmony with either the good or evil. Harmony exists only between the two of them, in their connection and in equilibrium. Therefore, our life has to consist of good and evil; otherwise there is no life.

Comment: But imagine how it wonderful it would be in the world if there were only one force of good!

Answer: We must stop calling one force evil and another good. Good and evil are relative concepts. You label them in one way and I label them in the opposite way.

There are two opposing forces given to us by nature. What occurs between these two forces is called life, existence. Rocks, plants, animals, and humans exist because they are created by a combination of these two forces that mutually balance each other. This is nature.

We exist in this world in the animal body and therefore must maintain this balance, which nature makes any animal obey. In addition to the animal level, which we receive due to our human minds and feelings, we also need to bring it into balance in order to use it not on the animate degree, but as human beings.

The human degree implies a completely different balance between good and evil. As a human being, I have to relate to good and evil objectively and recognize their right to exist, deciding what can be between them. Thus, I form my worldview, understanding that I have to use both forces in their interaction, in balance and in correct mutual connection.

For me, there are no good and evil. Both these forces, combining with each other, produce my good state, that is more advanced, higher. Harmony between these two forces is turned into good for me. It is not one or the other but the connection between them.

Question: This is good and evil in their absolute forms, relative to our development. But would I, an ordinary person, perceive this development as good or not?

Answer: It depends on a person, his preparation, education, and perception of the world. A baby, until he grows to a certain age, does not understand anything and follows his desire just like an animal. He naturally chooses what he likes and dislikes.

Thus we have to limit him because from birth he is not an animal, but a little human. An animal has an inner program that allows it to correctly use all of its strength.

The animal would not fall from a height, would not eat something harmful to itself, would not hurt itself. But a baby can hurt himself, and that is why he needs to be supervised. From the very day of his birth, we must begin to educate him.

An animal does not require training. If a young animal is abandoned in the woods but there is food next to it, it will be able to survive. It will know what is good to eat and what is not, what should be avoided, and so it will continue to live. But a baby will not survive alone. At all times, we have to teach him what is good for him and what is bad, and how he should use all the things in order to grow.

He should not grow only physically, although he should be given an understanding of this process. When he grows up a little and learns how to live in this world and take care of his body, then he needs to be taught mentally, internally, psychologically.

An understanding of good and evil means that the child is able to use these two forces that are around him, inside him, and in others, constantly keeping his balance with the environment. In fact, life is a balance within and around us. A little human should be taught how to achieve inner balance and balance with the environment on the animate level, where our body exists, and also on the human level of society, in connection with other people.
