The Kabbalistic Meaning of the Holiday of Shavuot

963.4Question: What is the Kabbalistic meaning of the holiday of Shavuot?

Answer: The meaning of the holiday of Shavuot is the receiving of the instruction for revealing the Creator to the people living in our world. This is the Torah, or more precisely, the science of Kabbalah.

Shavuot is unique among all holidays because we received from above, through certain people, the revelation of the method that provides the foundation for revealing the Creator to people in our world. This method is called the Torah, or Kabbalah, or the true Torah.

Essentially, this is the only thing we need to achieve in this world. It is the goal we should strive for. Everything else is transient. Therefore, I very much hope that people, year by year, especially in connection with this holiday, will increasingly understand its significance.

Question: If we delve a little deeper into the essence of this holiday, why was it necessary to bring people to a state of hatred? As it is said: the children of Israel stood around Mount Sinai.

Answer: It had to be this way; otherwise, we do not feel the need for the method of connection within us.

If we feel that we can reach the highest level of our development—on the level of the Creator—as if on the top of a mountain, which can only be climbed if we overcome Sinai (the state of hatred between us), then the method of overcoming mutual hatred, mutual rapprochement, which allegorically represents climbing the mountain, can only be achieved with our active participation, our serious work on ourselves. This is the entire method of implementing the Torah.

That is why we received it. To the extent that we implement this method, we attract the upper light upon ourselves, which changes us, brings us closer together, and binds us to one another. This is what we must achieve.

Question: Why is it called the holiday of Shavuot?

Answer: Because it precisely measures the time from the exodus from Egypt: 49 full days, seven weeks, which we precisely measure from the rejection of our egoism (Pesach) to the state where we can receive the instruction for rising above it, that is, the instruction for changing our egoistic nature.

Breaking away from egoism for 50 days, we begin to correct egoistic desires into intentions for giving and loving. And then we reveal within them the upper force, the upper state, the upper world.

Question: What do I do during these 49 steps?

Answer: I correct all my egoistic intentions corresponding to each of the 49 steps—seven weeks. Everything else needs to be studied.

Everything Comes from the Woman

565.02It happened once that there was a certain pious man who was married to a pious woman, and they did not produce offspring together. They said: We are of no use to the Holy One blessed be He [if we remain childless]. They arose and divorced each other.

He went and married a wicked woman, and she turned him wicked. She went and married a wicked man, and she turned him righteous. Thus, everything comes from the woman (Midrash Rabbah, Bereshit Rabbah, 17).

Comment: We are talking about many disagreements here.

My Response: There are no disagreements. It all depends on the woman! With a good wife, the husband will be righteous and with a bad one, he will be wicked.

Question: What is the meaning of the term good wife?

Answer: One who obeys her husband.

Question: Then what should the husband know to correctly instruct her? After all, husbands can be different too.

Answer: Of course, it is not that simple. But, in general, much depends on the wife. She can turn a wicked husband into a righteous one and a righteous husband into wicked.

Question: What is meant by wicked? What does this mean?

Answer: It means that he sins against the Creator; he does not believe, does not pray, does not follow the commandments, and leads an immoral life.

A righteous man is one whose behavior is righteous. He follows the Creator’s commandments and loves his wife.

King David’s Psalms Are Not Just Psychology

525Question: One of the top five most popular words lately, especially now in Israel, is “Tehillim,” the Psalms of David. After all, is it written in the genetics of people that when I am anxious, when I feel bad, I should turn to the Psalms of David?

Answer: That is why he wrote them, in general. This is exactly the language, the form, in which we can turn to the Creator.

Comment: But it was he who turned to the Creator.

My Response: It does not matter.

Question: Then it turns out that he exists practically in everyone?

Answer: Of course. This is King David! He is the person closest to the Creator.

Question: And for us, if each of us turns to Tehillim, to the Psalms of David, does it mean that he is in us too, the closest to us?

Answer: He is partially inside us, of course, inside each of us.

Question: Are we talking about more than just the Jewish people? Are we talking about the whole world?

Answer: Yes, King David is universal to the whole world.

Question: Is there is a point called King David and Psalms every person in the world?

Answer: Yes, that is why they are so popular. That is why everyone sings them.

Comment: All religions

My Response: Yes.

Question: Please tell me, does reading Psalms help psychologically?

Answer: Not only. This is a real help from above. They have strength; let us say, the power of protection.

David was strongly connected with the Creator, with the upper world. He was a king. That is, he paved this connection to the Creator. And therefore, his Psalms are the most important.

Question: Now, there is a question: Did King David really write them?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Was he thinking about writing them for us or was he simply spilling out what was inside him, the cry of his heart and soul?

Answer: I think he was simply describing what he felt.

Question: Why did he write them? He could have just said it all? Moreover, the feeling is that everything naturally comes out from the heart.

Answer: Of course, he said it too.

Question: What is happening when a person is writing?

Answer: He is pouring himself out. He is pouring himself onto paper.

Question: So, you advise working like this?

Answer: I recommend it! When a person reaches this state, he does not need advice.

Question: Will it work like this on its own?

Answer: Yes.

Question: It means that this connection of mine with my hand, with what I am writing, will not disappear?

Answer: No.

Question: Despite all the existing devices and recordings?

Answer: No. A person will reach out for a pen, paper, or a knife and stone.

Question: That is, civilization will not affect this in any way?

Answer: No.

The Ten Is a Device that Captures the Spiritual Field

527Question: You said that the ten is a device that can captures the spiritual field. How can we feel that we have become this device?

Answer: Just as a compass captures the magnetic field, so do we. By gathering together, we create an instrument for perceiving this field, and it orients us, moves us, and nurtures us.

As the compass needle starts to turn in the magnetic field, we work in the ten until we begin to feel the spiritual field between us, which shapes us and moves us forward.

This is an inner sensation for each person to the extent that one annuls oneself before the ten.

Let the Creator into the Mutual Guarantee

276.02Question: What does it mean to let the Creator into the mutual guarantee?

Answer: When we talk about mutual guarantee, we mean the right connection between people. That is, we ask ourselves how we should be united in order to represent a reliable earthly system of interconnected people.

There are people who understand that their egoistic desires play with them so much that they are unable to control themselves. If we look at humanity from the outside, what is happening to us simply defies any justification because we are trying to destroy, humiliate, kill, and suppress each other. We are motivated to do this by our inner desire, which does not allow us to exist in peace.

We need to neutralize the evil inclination in a person in some way. There is only one salvation for this—the force existing in nature that is able to balance our egoism. But we need to attract it to ourselves. This positive force is called the Creator.

Gratitude Expands the Kli

527.02Question: When I receive the revelation of the perfection of the Creator, where should I move further in my intention?

Answer: If you feel that you receive everything from Him and you feel good this way, thank Him for it.

As soon as you begin to give thanks, your Kli (vessel) that is filled with this pleasure will be emptied.
Gratitude and prayer, gratitude and request, expand the Kli like nothing else.

Nag like a Child

562.02Question: How can one be ignited with such desires in which the Creator will be manifest? Sometimes you recall the past and feel like you’re not investing the way you did back then.

Answer: This is good because this is required so you would ask. All our desires, especially unrealistic desires and dreams, are necessary for us to ask the Creator. Only for this.

Collect them all, and nag Him all the time, keep asking. You will see that this is the only thing that helps—not your brains, not your memory, nothing. Just nag like a child who is always picking at an adult and demanding something from him. This is how you can succeed; there is no other way.

The Need for a Group

938.01Question: Often a person comes to study Kabbalah out of despair and is searching for the meaning of life. When does a person need a group?

Answer: When a person, according to the state of his soul and according to internal preparation in this life or previous lives, is ready to begin the right advancement toward spirituality, then he is brought into the group.

But that does not mean anything. Some people come to the group and start getting used to it very quickly. They understand that it needs to be done like this: I am in a group and must fully connect myself with it, and then together, as a team in the army, we will attain the upper world, the Creator.

Some people come to the group, but internally disagree that they should be connected to the rest. For what?! How? What does connection have to do with it?! The Creator develops them in advance in arrogance, pride, etc. In general, it is hard for them.

They do not understand at all what it means to get closer to others, to connect, i.e., they go through a completely different development system, knocking about and twitching. However, if they stay on this path, they will eventually reach great heights, but after a longer time than the others.
