It is written in The Zohar (Mishpatim, 4:11 in the Sulam): “Come and see. When a person is born, he is given a soul from the side of the beast, the side of purity, the side of those who are called holy Ofanim (Rabash, “What Is the Degree One Should Achieve in Order Not to Have to Reincarnate?”).

Question: Nefesh is the lowest level. Which level is the highest?

Answer: The highest level is Yechida. The spiritual degrees are in the following order from lowest to highest: Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, and Yechida.

Question: It is said that a person is given a Nefesh, soul, from the property of an animal. What is the property of “animal”?

Answer: This is the average soul at the level of the animal body. The term animal refers to egoistic desires.
