The Euro-Babylonian Convention

Dr. Michael LaitmanOn Sunday, I gave a lesson about the European convention. I think it was a very good lesson; I am really pleased with myself. I spoke from the heart about the importance of the convention, about the need for such a meeting especially in Europe—at the current epicenter of the global crisis, in the modern Babylon where the greatest risk of mutual hatred has been created.

I ask everyone who considers himself my student to listen to the Sunday lesson. It is not only for the Europeans. After all, at the convention, we want to achieve greater correction. If we achieve some unity in Europe, it will affect the whole continent.

You see yourself how our initiatives permeate “underground” and spread everywhere through the invisible “root system.” Join us at the European convention, support, strengthen us from everywhere, and a good echo will spread around the world.

In general, every convention is very important, but this one is special because it will take place where the world’s problems are concentrated, and there we can realize global correction.

From Theory To Practice

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: It is known that while a man does not become a father himself, he cannot understand what it means. Even the numerous examples in front of him will not help, until he assumes father’s duties and feels responsibility, caring, and loving. We also study the future states theoretically, not understanding what it is in reality to be responsible for the lower degree…

Answer: Absolutely. However, we were given the possibility to realize it. First of all, a person annuls himself before the teacher, group, studies, the world, and the Creator. Being in your environment, check how far you are able to advance in this direction. By this, you will prepare yourself for more qualitative self-annulment.

Question: But this is still not real—theoretical self-annulment. Just as one listens to advice on healthy living until the disease forces him to follow doctors’ suggestions.

Answer: That is why our method contains several parts. The world has an influence on you; you join the group that studies with the teacher by special books written by sages. Here you are affected by a range of factors and, in addition, you have to feel that the upper force is behind this, and there is nothing except it. And then, according to these manifestations, you see how to annul yourself before them.

Besides, they explain to you that in reality the “external” picture is woven of your internal parts of perception: You have to join one of them and reject the other one.

In a word, you are given a field of work and everything depends on whether you accept this or not. You cannot isolate yourself from everyone, “What is a teacher for me? Everything is clear without him. Why do I need friends? I have my own head. I can understand the books myself better than others. I don’t owe anything to the world, it can burn…”

On the other hand, if you feel that you need all this, that this is the projection of your soul, you have to get closer to these parts, include them in yourself according to the principle, “I dwell among my own people,” then the picture appears in a different light. Thus, you increase your sensitivity, go towards change, and save a lot of time. Moreover, your attitude towards change is transformed; now you desire it.

This is preparation, a mandatory stage before the transition from theory to practice.

Like Dough In A Baker’s Hands

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe constantly go through opposite states since basically there is a desire to receive with all its egoistic attitude, understanding, and feeling. The Creator’s desire, however, is a desire to bestow, and it is opposite from our desire.

We don’t know what this opposite attribute means for us; we don’t know it. We only feel how it operates on us even if we don’t know what it is and who it is. We still have to clarify this. This is why this world was created in which instead of the Creator we are surrounded by different forms and creatures that seemingly influence us instead of Him.

We have to show understanding towards them; that it isn’t them who operate on us, but rather the upper force who is behind all of that turning to us through different people or through different events in life. I have to accept these actions and these influences as essential, in order to mold me, like dough, and to create the right form that is ready to be baked.

If I accept these things and try to find the powers to cope with the Creator’s work on me, I begin to know Him through this work, and His hands that hug me like dough.

Thus I go through two phases: First I agree and am ready that He should perform all the necessary work on me. I feel the strong pressure of His hands on me, like on a piece of dough, until He molds me correctly, in the form of bestowal, the level of Bina, to bestow in order to bestow.”

I am ready for anything, as long as the Creator shapes me in this from. It is very hard for me, since as He works on me, He applies strong pressure. Then I want to go on, even to the state of to receive in order to bestow, in order to ascend and to rise like yeast. This means that the desire to receive itself already participates in this motion and yearns for the form that the Creator shapes him into. Thus we attain an equivalence of form with the Creator. To bestow in order to bestow is called “Matzah,” and to receive in order to bestow is called “Hametz” (leavened food), the real bread that in its corrected form joins the Creator’s form that is imprinted in the created being.

But first all our work is to accept all the forms that come to us that imprint the attribute of bestowal in us and to accept them as desirable. In order to do that, we should use the help of the environment as much as we can and all the means that were given to us in order to prepare ourselves for the receiving the Creator’s bestowal, His work on a person.

It may seem to a person that he does that, but if he doesn’t use the external support that is meant especially for that, then it is only an illusion that he is advancing towards accepting the upper forms, but in fact, he is not ready yet to become a spiritual embryo.

Genuine Dissemination

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How did Kabbalists of the past abide without dissemination? How can we spread the Light that we receive from the group without losing its qualities while we interact with the masses?

Answer: Let’s look at what it means to disseminate. If we think that the soul is placed outside of one’s body, it implies that all seven billion “outsiders” represent particles of this person’s soul. It’s not about beautiful words; it’s the truth!

What are we supposed to do with it? We have to disseminate. If one doesn’t attach these particles to oneself, one won’t obtain a place, a Kli, vessel, in which one will sense the upper world.

How can I attach all these particles to myself? I can do this only if I give to them, if I treat them as parts of myself. That’s why it’s said: “Love thy neighbor as thyself,” then he will become an internal part of you. To the extent of our ability to relate to the world in accordance with this principle, we will be granted a chance to sense our soul. It’s “located” in others, although we don’t realize this fact. By neutralizing our egoism and by changing our attitude to all seven billion “outsiders,” we will access our own soul. This explains why we can’t name this process “charity.” It’s because we are trying to discover our own eternal and perfect selves.

The wisdom of Kabbalah appears to us as the most “lucrative business” ever. There is nothing more “profitable” than eternity, perfection, and infinity. Of course, all these matters require much contemplation; we should think about these subjects until we fully “digest” all questions and doubts. However, you have to understand that there is nobody outside us and that everybody and everything (people and all of nature) are only our external Kli, vessel.

In Kabbalah we learn that the soul consists of Shoresh, Neshama, Guf, Levush and Heichal. Our internal desires are comprised of Shoresh, Neshama, and Guf, whereas our external Kelim are Levush and Heichal, meaning “dresses,” “halls,” and “palaces.” They represent external desires. If we relate to them as ourselves, we start sensing the upper Light, the higher life, and our eternal existence in them.

That’s why one should never regard the world as externality. It only looks as if it’s outside us, but in fact, the entire world is inside us. We study the “Introduction to The Book of Zohar” in which Baal HaSulam explains that everything that appears to us as externality is in fact inside us. In other words, everybody is within me.

Something that appears external to us is an illusion that should be destroyed as soon as possible by relating to everybody and everything with love. Only under this condition can we serve as “transmitters” of the upper Light to others. It will pass through us and allow us to sense eternal perfection.

Europe Gripped By Strikes

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Euronews): “It has been a day of industrial action all over Europe.

“In Belgium, hundreds of steel workers blocked border crossings to and from neighbouring countries, furious at plans by the steel giant Arcelor Mittal to slash production threatening more than a thousand jobs.

“In France, PSA Peugeot-Citroen workers occupied the offices of a steel industry managers’ organization as part of an ongoing protest against the planned closure of a car factory in Aulnay near Paris. The plant has been paralysed for eight weeks by a strike.

“Travelers using the airport serving Bonn and Cologne in Germany had delays and cancellations as security staff walked out. It’s part of a long running dispute over contract terms and pay. Dozens of flights were cancelled. Passengers using Berlin’s Tegel airport were also affected.

“There was disruption too at Madrid’s main international airport. About 2,000 workers protested against pay cuts and massive lay-offs at Spain’s national carrier Iberia.

“And tourists hoping for some ancient Greek culture found all public archaeological sites strike bound – including the Parthenon temple at the Acropolis. Workers are angry about a planned restructuring of the Culture Ministry.”

My Comment: The crisis is not in overproduction of goods and services, but in the over-production of people. We are moving into the world where everything will be done by machines, printers, and almost all the people will be unemployed. It will happen gradually, but steadily. There is a crisis of an abundance of goods and people.

Kabbalah described this state of the world a long time ago and offers the following: reduce all the production and services except those necessary for living, free all people who are not needed for the necessary production and services from working, provide mandatory education at open universities of integral education, pay stipends at the places of studies (like a salary adjusting for absenteeism), teach integral interaction, the structure of the world and its development, writing, drawing, singing, etc., and have workshops.

What’s Next?

Joyful Are Those That Seek The Creator

Dr. Michael LaitmanAs it is sung in the song “Sing for Him, Chant to Him…joyful are those that seek the Creator. All our work depends on it; are we capable of being in self-scrutiny, criticism, and unpleasant inner discernments so that, by ourselves, in our forces, we reveal the evil even before we stumble into it through compulsion, “in its time“? It is necessary to reveal it before that, in “hastening time”: pulling ourselves into connection, even though it is against our nature, revealing the evil, and finding a cure before the blow.

Because in the cure, there is part of the poison, part of the snake, so it cannot be pleasant. And if we are capable of finding the cure ahead of time, then we progress as workers of the Creator, by requesting of Him.

Therefore one doesn’t need to be afraid of the revealation of evil or of the wicked being revealed. The main thing is to see this revelation correctly. Until all the evil and flaws are reveled to the end, we will not come to the good; we will reveal it only together with the correct preparation to reveal the illness in order to correct it.

Because there is no doubt that all the “wicked” already exist. If a thought, a desire, and an urge come to a man, it is a sign that it was already in him before. But if we reveal it by preparing ourselves correctly, then we open this “Pandora’s Box” and we quickly and easily correct all the sins; this is called the short and pleasant path. But if we are not ready for such a revelation and do not want it, then we will go in a long, difficult painful path until it will finally be revealed.

It is impossible to prevent the pain completely, but it needs to be a pain of healing as in a man who goes for surgery, treatment for a wound, or gets dental care. It is not pleasant, but we agree to it; therefore, everything depends on preparation. And if a correct preparation is made, then the group, the community, and the world groups are ready to see the revelation of evil, and then “Joyful are those that seek the Creator,” and we will have what to sing to Him about.

Eternal Sabbath

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the “eternal Sabbath,” about which it is said that everything will be on the seventh day?

Answer: The “eternal Sabbath” represents complete adhesion of the Creator and the created being. This is a feeling of complete correction.

“Eternal rest” means that you have nothing to fight but that you have much work in constant positive yearning for the Creator. This yearning is not a result of lack, but due to the revelation of greater perfection.

We have no idea how this is possible. How can I move forward, not using the left leg at all? It is as if a middle leg appears, and you just walk forward in the revelation of the Creator.

That is, you go towards Him not because you correct yourself and move towards Him, but because He is revealed more and more, and you enter Him more and more. This is the system.

Giving Way To The Wise

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Do the spiritual states of “morning, day, evening,” and “night” apply to all people in the world?

Answer: This applies only to those who have two properties inside: reception and bestowal. The desire to receive is called the heart and the desire to bestow is the point in the heart.

If they feel this separation in themselves and seek to find the meaning of life and are not satisfied with what revolves around them, if they feel depressed because of disappointment in this world and yearn for something higher, only those people can advance according to this method and begin to attain the upper state.

If they don’t have this predisposition, the spiritual genes, then they are in the framework of our world and see their actions only within it. We see this in various politicians, economists, etc. Look at how they appear on TV screens: anxious, preoccupied with their own games. This is the exact representation of one-dimensional creatures, machines, mechanical toys.

Question: It turns out that their time has not yet come?

Answer: I don’t think it will come. However, the hour will come when they have, in due course, to give way to the wise, to people who understand that the system of nature consists of two forces and not the one-dimensional world which we are no longer able to manage. After all, our world is gradually moving, rising to the next stage, being revealed to us as a two-dimensional world, which is composed of two forces.
