More Weapons Worldwide To Keep Us Safer?

war20is20no20solutionIn the News: (from the annual report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute):Global military expenditure set new record in 2008″ Global military expenditure in 2008 is estimated to have totaled $1464 billion. This represents an increase of 4 percent in real terms compared to 2007, and of 45 per cent since 1999. Military expenditure comprised approximately 2.4 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP) in 2008.

My Comment: The “reason” for military spending has been changed over the years: before it was done for the sake of maintaining a balance between the East and West, whereas now it is done in the name of a global war on terrorism. Everyone has successfully been able to use this “just cause” to militarize their countries even more.

  1. that’s a picture taken my country…. about military expenditure… I do believe that money should be spent on other areas such as education and health… weapons are a sort of placebo for our fears (especially a government’s fears) the world would be a better place without weapons
