The Cloud Of The Creator

Dr. Michael LaitmanMidrash Sefer, “Beshalach”: The Lord commanded Moses to spread his arms above the sea, and a light eastern wind began to blow. In the meantime, the children of Israel went on their way during the whole night, and thus came closer and closer to the seashore.

The Egyptians followed them, but did not succeed in conquering the camp. They shot arrows and threw stones at the Jews, but the cloud of the Creator absorbed everything.

It was the same cloud that usually moved before the children of Israel during the day. That night, instead of disappearing in the dark as it usually did, it moved behind the camp in order to absorb everything that was shot and thrown by the Egyptians. Moreover, the Creator’s angels flew behind the Jews in order to protect them.

There is a law of equivalence of form: If you move toward unity and dissemination, toward developing your spiritual attributes, you are connected to the Creator to some extent in regard to that. Although you are not in contact with Him, there is a connection in the form of a cloud, in the form of help from behind and before. This means that the Surrounding Light operates on you.

A cloud is the Surrounding Light that, on the one hand, is invisible and concealed, but on the other hand, is revealed in its actions like a magician who suddenly appears to hold something in his hand without any evident reason. This means that half of the actions are concealed and half of the actions are revealed. At the same time, the outcome is revealed while the reason is beyond the Machsom (barrier).

So That The Sea Will Retreat To The Sides

laitman_232_07The Midrash “BeShalach”: The sea will retreat to the sides when it sees the children of Israel before it, carrying the coffin of Joseph. Just as he fled from the wife of Potiphar, so will the sea retreat for his descendents.

Question: Why does the sea have to retreat to the sides?

Answer: Since Joseph unites everyone. Joseph is Yesod, the point where all of a person’s attributes connect for the sake of the Creator. It is actually Yesod that creates an inclusive chunk of attributes that are totally opposite.

“To carry Joseph before the children of Israel” means to advance in complete unity among them. The sea symbolizes Din, the force that is opposite from unity, that is opposite from life. If you walk on it with the point of unity, like with a battering ram, the sea will retreat to the sides.

Not Living for One’s Own Sake

laitman_236_01The Midrash “BeShalach”: As soon as the children of Israel saw that the Egyptian army chased them closely and when they saw that there was no salvation, they started praying in their hearts and lifted their voices to the Creator begging Him for help.

In the camp of the children of Israel, there was fear.

“The fear” the previous excerpt talks about is a fright of staying in the intention “for one’s own sake.” During the hardest times, we don’t think about the Creator or our surroundings but only about ourselves.

It’s as if we are squeezed on all sides in our desires and thoughts, intentions and actions are directed inward. Thus, we have no grounds to demand the property of bestowal.

However, one is afraid to stay in this state and live only for one’s own sake since one has already tried serving the Creator and wants to retain this condition.

“God-Fearing” Egyptians

Laitman_509The Midrash, “BeShalach”: The Pharaoh chose the best six hundred chariots they had in the land of Egypt. In addition, he took other chariots and appointed charioteers. The Almighty’s plan was that the Egyptian army would pursue the children of Israel until they all drowned.

Where did they get horses for chariots? Hadn’t the animals died in Egypt during the plagues of “starvation and hail”?

The animals were provided by “God-fearing” Egyptians who obeyed Moses’ warnings before the “plague of hail,” and placed their animals in barns. Now, they volunteered to lend their animals to persecute the Jews.

“G-d-fearing” Egyptians are those who revere the Torah commandments and at the same time think only about themselves. They are spiritual criminals! Among them, there are those who exited from Egypt together with the Jews as well as those who stayed in Egypt. In the Torah, they are called “big rabble” (Erev Rav).

On one hand, they obeyed Moses, but on the other hand, they gladly gave everything they had to the Pharaoh.

Question: At some point, they listened to Moses and used an anti-egoistic screen to hide their animal desires. Why all of sudden did they change so dramatically?

Answer: Their duty is to accompany us in our spiritual work and “provide us” with multiple troubles. They had to participate in the destruction of the First and the Second Temples. They partake in all harms that continue happening up to these days. Kabbalah-haters won’t disappear until we reach the final correction.

Go Beyond The Limits Of Time

laitman_537The Midrash “BeShalach”: Moses was such an outstanding leader that he could control hundreds of thousands of people by just a few words. He convinced them and promised them: “The Creator will perform miracles for you and you will be silent.”

But at the same time the fear did not cease. The people wanted to know, “When will the Creator save us?” and Moses answered, “Today.” The Jews exclaimed, “We cannot wait any longer!”

The people cannot wait any longer because they cannot leave the frameworks of time. People find it hard to understand that the point isn’t time and that if you connect to the uUpper force at a certain moment, the concept of time disappears.

Waiting symbolizes the feeling of time and the feeling of a deficiency of what you lack until the end of correction. But when you attain correction, time disappears and you enter a level that is above the speed of light, a different dimension. Therefore, the expression “we have no time” only indicates that the people are not adhered to the Creator yet.

Clinging To The Creator

laitman_527_03The Midrash, “BeShalach”: The righteous among the people cried out: “Let’s fulfill the Creator’s will patiently”; those who are weak should split up into four groups. Each of them thinks that its operation plan is the right one.

The representatives of the tribes of Reuben, Shimon and Issachar were scared and decided that it was better to jump into the sea than to confront the Egyptians. Moses calmed them: “Do not fear, be calm and you will see that the Creator will save you.”

The tribes of Zebulon Judah and Joseph called: “Let’s go and fight Egypt.” But Moses corrected them: “The Creator will fight for you.” The tribes of Dan, Gad and Asher suggested invading the Egyptian camp and causing a scare there. “No,” said Moses, “stay here and give up this plan.”

This speaks about the division of Israel into twelve tribes that yearn for the Creator but cannot unite into one nation since they embody three lines: the right, the left, and the middle. Since there are four phases of development in each of the lines, three times four is twelve tribes. We mustn’t mix them since they advance in a certain order, in separate columns in the desert.

All the problems and disagreements between them are necessary in order to understand that only the Creator can help them. Therefore, they need to adhere to Him and not run ahead or stay in one place, nor attack the desires by trying to destroy them or to move away from them.

In other words, everything that happens around them is arranged by the Creator and takes place where they are, “There is none else besides Him.” The only thing left is to connect to Him, and He will work everything out. All the problems are given to us in order to attain unity.

But at the same time, all our attributes and our impulses tear us to pieces. We fear that we will remain in the egoistic state and will not be able to leave it; therefore we are scared.

The only solution is to hold on to the state that was sent from above by the Creator, realizing that the scare is not so that we will fear the Egyptians, no matter what form the egoistic desires will be depicted to us, but to fear the Creator. This is already a different kind of fear, a fear of the Creator’s greatness. If we had that fear, no one would fear the Egyptians, our ego.

Moreover, Moses keeps saying: “Don’t fear, be calm, the Creator will fight for you, He will save you.” Therefore all of a person’s desires should be connected to the Creator.

Writing A Book Of Torah

laitman_260Question: Why can’t you give me a lucky charm?

Answer: Because you have to make it, not I! It should be according to the program that is projected in you! No one can do anything for another person!

It says: “Inscribe them on the tablets of your heart.” It says that every person is obliged to write a book of Torah. Everyone! There is a Mitzva (commandment) to write a book of Torah.

This means that you have to learn this whole program from the first letter of the Torah, the Hebrew letter “Bet – ב,” all the way to the last letter, the Hebrew letter “Lamed – ל,”  and to write all those letters. To write them means to understand what this program means.

After all, the Torah is not a historical novel about a nation that lived ages ago. It is about you and about how you are made. When you read the Torah you begin to feel how it affects you once you understand the letters and the attributes. Ultimately every person has his own Torah.

I read the Torah, which means that the whole line of letters goes through me from the beginning to the end, and I read it. This means that I begin to understand, to feel, and to incorporate this program in me from the beginning of the creation with all the connections it contains in a totally different manner than you read it. Everyone does it according to his own nature and we are all very different.

So you know what you can add. Writing a book of Torah, is first of all writing it on your heart. But what do you write it with? You don’t simply place your heart so that the Torah can be printed on it. A heart means a desire.

You process these letters and the way they are ordered. You agree with them and change yourself according to every letter. Then it is written on your desire. This means that the matter of the letter is designed and depicted inside you by your desire.

Our matter is a desire to receive. This pile of desire which every person has must clothe the letters of the Torah on itself, that is,  to take on their form, similar to cookies shaped like letters. shaped biscuits. These are the letters you have to make of your desire in the form of the Torah.

Question: Every person yearns to be in the best possible state, but it is practically impossible to attain it. How can the letters help us succeed in doing so?

Answer: This is the path to success because the Torah leads you to the next world, to a state of perfect goodness. It is because your desire constantly yearns for something but doesn’t know exactly what it wants and never gets what it desires. Even if it does get one gram of pleasure, it disappears immediately.

The Torah is meant to bring you the Light. The Light is real pleasure that is permanent and full.

Question: What do you mean by the Torah?

Answer: This whole program is called Torah and we study it by studying the wisdom of Kabbalah.

Ideologies Of Anti-Semitism

laitman_222The Midrash, “BeShalach”: Pharaoh’s army advanced quickly. The Creator removed all the obstacles from the Egyptians’ path so that they would catch up with the Jews without any delays. The Egyptians cursed the Lord and swore while the Children of Israel who were ahead of them praise Him.

The Creator doesn’t help the children of Israel. He actually helps the Egyptians to move quickly to catch up with the Jews, but still they curse Him while the Jews praise the Creator and go back.

This shows to what extent we don’t understand the meaning of the actions that we perform, and thus slow down the advancement of our people and help the enemy catch up with us. There were many such cases in history.

The greatest anti-Semites were Jewish. The ideologies of the inquisition and other anti-Semitic streams were concealed Jews who may have not even known what their origin actually was. However, when all this is revealed, we will see that there is no one but them. Therefore, we should actually look for Jews among the greatest anti-Semites.

“Health To All Their Flesh….”

Laitman_632_1Question: They say that there are unique powers in the letters of the Torah. One of the powers that are connected with the letters is the power of healing. How do they heal?

From what I understand, all of these letters, together, form the lines of a code that manages me (and every person) at every moment and determine everything that happens to me, but in this code there are intervals. If I am sufficiently developed and wise, then will I be able to write these intervals myself and then change the course of the process?

Answer: In the Torah, it is written, “For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh” (Proverbs 4:22). These letters, themselves, are forces, but this is not talking about letters that you write on paper. With every letter that you perceive, you are changed. You must change according to each letter to allow these letters to be embedded into you.

Our entire problem is that we are in an egoistic state, always wanting to receive for ourselves. This is the opposite of the material into which the Torah can embed itself. It can be embedded only in material that is entirely bestowal and love, which is the opposite of our ego.

Every letter is a symbol, a form or a manner through which I provide the best to others. Both the form of the letters and their combinations indicate how we can take the material, the desire to receive, and make from it a desire to bestow. We work with the desire to receive in the form of a desire to bestow, and then the letters are created from the desire to receive.

It is said that you had a formless heap of the desire to receive like a mountain of sand, and now, by adding water and cement to this sand, you make a solid mass out of this mountain, and from that, you already can make the form of the letters.

However, what does every letter symbolize? In this form, your formerly egoistic desire now wants to bestow to others, to give something to them, to help in some way, to arrange something, and it is the same thing even for the Creator, for the general program, so that it will be realized and will be good for everyone. This is what you make out of your natural substance.

Irrepressible Desires of the Pharaoh

laitman_288_1The Midrash, “BeShalach”: The Pharaoh entrusted none of his servants to harness his chariot. He did it himself and exclaimed: “This is a battle against the King of Kings. So, I should be the one who harnesses the chariot.”

The Pharaoh wants all of Divinity to be filled for the sake of egoism. He doesn’t want Malchut to rise to Bina; rather, he wants Bina to descend to Malchut. He wishes the entire system to work not for the sake of Infinity (Ein Sof), not for the sake of bestowing to the Creator, but for his own sake.

By desiring to attract the entire Upper Light for the sake of his own self and using it for his egoistic needs, he “harnesses the chariot,” meaning, he gets ready to receive the Upper Light.
