Question: “I, the group, the world.” As long as this picture exists in our imagination, the world endures much, exactly as you said many years ago. But of course, this shouldn’t make us happy. It’s necessary to help people, to support them, especially in our European Convention…

Answer: I agree absolutely. First of all, we are commanded, “And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” If I must relate to people with love, how can I be happy about their suffering? Certainly, something like this simply cannot be.

And on the other hand, when we look at what’s happening, we need to hurry and dedicate as much power and time as possible to dissemination. I hope that we will speak about this at the convention. For it’s very important for us to bring the understanding to humanity that a very clear, very concrete, simple, and practical method exists. Already today it’s possible to implement it and to see wondrous results in a number of days.

We know how rapidly people are changed within the framework of integral education beginning from the first lecture, from the first workshop. If we can only give them the method, they will open their eyes and see how simple everything is. We are preparing ourselves for this, and we already have a few hundred people in various countries that are ready to be teachers and educators.

One way or another, the world will not work it out without suffering, but these will already be sufferings of love, when together with the force that pushes people from behind, a force also draws them forward. This is our obligation, our mission, to show them the way.

In truth, I already spoke about this state many years ago, and frankly, every day I expect that they will begin to hear us. Otherwise, undoubtedly the suffering will grow more and more. And in spite of all this, I have great hopes. Due to the communications media, due to the reactions of scientists and politicians, I see that the world has changed. They are already beginning to grasp the idea and understand that today we require a breakthrough, a new way.

Question: The better that the understanding of the world is connected to the manner in which the group learns, it unites internally. And in spite of all this our ego demands a payoff in the form of conventions, and in general, endless meetings. Has the time not come for a new level? For in a form like this we cannot continue to gather the entire world. Someone will always remain on the sidelines and will feel himself deprived. Has the time not arrived when every one of us, within himself, and simultaneously in another, will come to the thought that we are one whole, not only through mutual physical activity, but also with inner activity? We need to be together internally.

Answer: The world develops from simple “mechanics,” to electronics, to radio and to television, to computers, to a virtual network, and after this, to a spiritual network. Our mutual connection is coming closer and closer to its spiritual form.

Today the world is making a transition to virtual connection, to conference calls, to telephones and chats. And now we need to go out to such a level of connection so that the whole world will know our coordinates in all segments of the network and will have the possibility of connecting with us, easily and correctly.

We need to be accessible to everyone in this virtual form so that the person can find a group, a society, a new image of humanity, a correct connection between everyone. It’s necessary for everyone to understand how to go inward, how to be included in this collective, how to live in it, how to feel included in a mutual connection. The moment that a person will take a cell phone into his hands or turn on a computer, this virtual atmosphere will then embrace him, will draw him inward and begin to work on him, will attract him more and more towards new stages of development.

And in the end, artificial channels and lines of communication will no longer be required, for we will stretch wires from heart to heart. This will be the coming level, yet we cannot rise to it without preliminary communications through these networks.

Baal HaSulam, “A Speech for the Completion of The Zohar”: In spirituality, the time of giving and the time of receiving are separate. This is because first it was given from the Creator to the receiver; and in this giving He only gives him a chance to receive. 

Question: How can we recognize this opportunity and use it correctly?

Answer: It has several signs, and the first is when we are not left in peace. If we don’t wake up, then what kind of chance does it give us? We usually “wake up” either in a coffee shop, or bar, or during a football match on the TV. Can we really wake up for correction if our nature is simply an egoistic desire to receive pleasure? We only wake up because of purposeful, special, and qualitative troubles.

Over thousands of years of development, humanity received plenty of simple blows. If a single generation of long-lived people had experienced this, they would look incredibly pitiful. This is why we reincarnate from generation to generation—to come namely to qualitative blows.

Today, we have food, clothes, and shelter. Each of us lives better than the kings did five hundred or a thousand years ago. Refrigerators, air conditioners, microwaves, mobile telephones, cars, or if worse comes to worst, public transportation are the attributes of our modern life. The entire world is in front of us. But not that long ago, even Europe looked very differently: People lived in terrible conditions and had inconceivable social relationships.

We all are relatively well-off. So what is lacking in our lives? We lack joy, purpose in life. What do we live for? The paradox of our life is that we have everything we need, but we hardly enjoy our existence.

Previously, it was the other way around. Had a person had a loaf of bread every day, he would have wanted nothing else. Having this “bliss,” he would have stayed in bed the entire day. Whereas today, people rest on their couches because they are emptied by the abundance. This is what is called qualitative blows. Rebellious children, broken families, fears, worries, and confusion—a person does everything to avoid them, but there is no place to run.

On the other hand, the world is  being “pulled together” by a single net, and we worry because of the New York stock exchange, European crops, heavy rains in remote areas, or conflicts in other countries. We are connected with everyone and depend on everything. We constantly feel pressure and uncertainty. Thus, we are forced to take care of others.

As a result, we all experience disasters that are aimed particularly at us, and that shapes one single question in our brain: “What’s the purpose of my suffering?” Baal HaSulam formulated this question a little differently: “Who is it who enjoys what’s happening? Or even more precisely, whom do I delight?” The problem is that there are no answers to these questions.

In general, the current period of our lives represents the “opposite side” of the era of Messiah. Before anything else, we must reveal a desire. That’s why the Light comes to us through the “back entrance,” from behind. Our duty is to reverse it in such a way that it shines before us. Rabash writes about it in his article “The Matter of the Association of the Quality of Mercy with Judgment.” The upper one seems to me as something very gloomy and repulsive until I rise “above reason” and start revealing Him and getting attached to Him. I transform myself into my opposite (оr do the same with Him in my eyes), and then we turn face to face to each other.

However, He still shines to me through the “back side” and causes disasters that gradually drag me to a correct approach by building a vessel within me.

This is how we have passed all levels, all historic stages. Baal HaSulam writes that any state is preserved until it becomes unbearable. Then we destroy it and build something else instead.

However, this time we don’t have to destroy or build anything at the level of this world. Rather, we must comprehend and digest what’s going on with us, explore the situation we are in, and understand and acknowledge it. The main thing is to realize that the upper one has to perform all changes. But it’s not because we are powerless; after all, He did everything previously as well, albeit without us being aware of it. Today, we must acknowledge this fact and make sure that we accept every action that the upper one does, and that we must elicit all of His actions, ask for them and thank Him for them, and thus constantly accompany all of His steps.

This is actually the “work for the sake of the Creator”: I get to know Him, I begin merging with Him. This is the specifics of our last developmental stage: We get to know the Creator better and better, until we know Him completely. In other words, finally, we will see that everything that happens to us, including “negative” events, were prepared for us by Him solely to make us know Him better. This kind of knowing Him is impossible without our participation. This is exactly what is still concealed from us.

Question: How do we show the world that a transition to an integral society is not a utopia, but a real project?

Answer: An integral society cannot be a utopia for two reasons.

First of all, the worldwide crisis is directing us toward it, and there is nowhere we can hide from it. It will continue to pressure us. Millions will be left without work. See what is happening in southern Europe: Spain, Italy, Greece, and is already approaching Germany and France.

And what will happen to the people? How will they react to everything? We are looking at civil wars and revolutions; without integral upbringing, anything could happen! Horrible nationalistic problems will arise. We see fascists coming to power in Greece. This is protectionism, which will manifest in a horrible way if integral upbringing is not introduced in time.

For this reason, a multifaceted horrible crisis will continue to push us from every angle.

How can the population be calmed down? Who will feed the unemployed? No one will! No social work will be able to keep them from explosions of protests and mass disturbances. When people are hungry, death does not scare them, they can climb barricades, nothing matters to them.

And those on top do not know what to do; they are lost. The only thing they can do is escape to an island in the Pacific until they are found there.

In other words, anarchy, terrible absurdity, and chaos are coming over us. This is on one hand.

On the other hand, we face nature, which is showing us the negative side of our inaction and lack of understanding.

For this reason, it is necessary to introduce integral upbringing at least as an experiment in a single region. Let us try! What do we have to lose? Everything is dying anyway.

Two months ago in Italy, I spoke with a representative of the European Community about education. He sat in front of me like a student sits in front of a teacher, writing down every word, he literally had pages and pages of notes. And this is a serious official, who spent the last eighteen years working for the governing body of the European Community in Brussels. He said: “It is a perfect system, but I have no one to tell about it to because we have twenty-seven countries and each wants things done their own way, nobody will want to listen to anyone else.”

He reached out: “Who can I turn to, what can I do?” In his opinion, for this experiment we need a small town with a dying economy from the closing of a huge enterprise that was responsible for the economy of the entire town.

But huge cities will soon be in this same situation. These are not small towns where people can still feed themselves by growing their own food on the land. Countries are in debt, and tomorrow they will not be able to feed their population. What is next? We are facing a huge mess.

The only thing that can save the world from civil wars and fascist regimes is integral upbringing. If we continue following the egoistic path contrary to the integral, “round” development of the world, then the next stage of egoistic development will be Nazism, fascism, and protectionism when countries realize that they are not able to do anything with the common market and they will close their borders and eventually come to the state of war.

Even if they do not want it, they still must break the economic, financial, and other connections they have created between them that are suffocating them. This is what is leading them towards a world war.

Global dependence is natural; there is nowhere to hide from it. This is why if things continue this way, we might even have to go through two wars. According to Kabbalah, there is a possibility of a third and even a fourth nuclear war. And after that, whatever is left of mankind still will be implementing integral upbringing and the integral lifestyle according to nature.

That is the harsh way of realizing the need for integration instead of doing it the reasonable way.

We already know that “Israel” is called the giving vessels, Galgalta ve Eynaim (GE), and the “nations of the world” are the receiving vessels, AHP. Accordingly, the vessels of Israel must correct themselves first and give the Light to the nations of the world. This task was assigned to Israel from Above, meaning everyone in the world who gets the awakening by means of the point in the heart (•)—a spark of desire, which suddenly breaks out in it. In addition, the category of “Israel” includes the descendants of immigrants from ancient Babylon who had the point in the heart in the past.

Thus, “Israel” is a difficult, complex concept. And namely these people have an obligation to correct themselves to become the “Light for the nations,” in other words, to transfer the method to, provide help, and support all the other people whose point in the heart is still hidden.

After the breaking of the souls and mutual inclusion, this point exists in everyone, but in the category of the “nations of the world” it is still dormant and they are not aimed “straight to the Creator” (Yashar-El) and do not feel this urge (↑). That’s why there is a transitional link Galgalta ve Eynaim, Israel, the vessels of bestowal. Their nature is the same as that of the Light (OR), and they can pass it on to the nations of the world in a suitable form so that people understand how and by what means they can exit the current crisis.

There is a very important point. The Creator, the Surrounding Light (Ohr Makif – O”M), also shines on all people. From this everyone experiences the negative (-), the troubles and problems. However, they do not feel able to deal with this minus, with this unfulfilled desire (Hissaron). They do not get help and support from Above. The positive does not come (+?); there is no method. That is why the nations of the world feel hatred towards Israel whom they blame for all their misfortunes.

We are talking about the laws and forces of nature. Nothing can be done; they operate in this way. Until Israel is able to balance the desires of the nations that were awakened by the Surrounding Light with the inner Light of the Creator, until the “minus” of the nations is neutralized by the “plus” on the part of Israel, they will constantly hate Israel and blame it; it is their lack of support, which they do not know they need, that is precisely the cause of all their troubles. Natural disasters, famine, and disease, all that will be blamed on Jews, as has happened many times. All this stems from an imbalance between these forces, which we have to balance so that we are moved not by the negative, but by the positive that provides the remedy for disease in advance.

In essence, everything revolves around this scheme. So, if something wrong happens in the world, then those who belong to the category of Israel are to blame because they do not bring the world the compensating Light, and as a result, allow the bad force to break out.

What is the future of humanity because every day it feels itself more and more confused? Underneath the external bravado there are small, perplexed people who don’t know what to do. They rush from side to side, trying to eliminate the causes of all the problems: social, political, economic, and environmental. And the problems will keep on growing because at the center of them is the human being who is not adapted to the new system, a new world.

That is why we are faced with an enormous task of telling humanity about the new world and how to match it. We have to feel responsible for this.

There is no need to wait until suffering accelerates the development of humanity; on the contrary, it slows down this process. People hide from suffering, shrink, and can accept nothing. Instead of expanding, understanding, and correcting, people begin to regress backward. Only the proper awareness of the problems will speed up their development. That is why we need to make every effort to bring our message to humanity.

Integral education, integral upbringing, the integrality of all the levels, sectors, nations, and states is the future of humanity; there is no other method. It depends only on us, our global group, which way will take there: being forced or by a kind and short path. Therefore, I urge you to think about this and develop clear plans for our dissemination.

Dissemination consists of two systems:

1. Internal dissemination: the connection between us who study the science of Kabbalah and strive towards unity, as well as between us and the world;

2. External dissemination: through the Internet, books, lectures, workshops, etc.

But one should not be at the expense of the other! The proportion should be the following: internally, we have to expand constantly educating teachers and organizers. Hundreds of thousands, millions of people will need us!

You will soon see that this need will arise. Even today, if we were ready, we could find the employment of our forces in the field of integral education. You can do everything! You have no idea how important each of you are to the world! You have to bring yourselves up as teachers of the world. This is the guarantee of the good future of humanity.

I hope that we will be able to bring a new approach to the world, especially through our inner part, through internal dissemination, through the common network, linking all the people in the world. It depends only on us. And here of course, our personal obstacles will either help us or hinder us from accomplishing this mission.

Question: What state does a person go through at the lowest point of the descent and what is he supposed to do then? What is our mistake?

Answer: If I fall to the bottom of the descent, then at this lowest critical point I cannot do anything by myself. It is as if I am neutralized by all the Light that operates on me.

The Light operates on me during all the phases of my development (the Surrounding Light 1), and under its influence I descend. Its action leads to my descent by adding a corrupt desire to me. Eventually I find myself at the lowest point in which I cannot do anything. There are no means by which I can ascend; I am under the total influence of the ego.

But the moment I begin to rise, at least a bit, thanks to the gap between the new state and the state I was in, I already have to do something independently. I rise to the first state with the help of the group, but thanks to the level I rose to, I now have to start doing something by myself: to raise MAN, a prayer, a request, to exert myself. I have to draw the Light by myself in order to start its influence according to my invitation and not through someone else.

I cannot wake up and pull myself out of the lowest place independently and without help: “A prisoner cannot rescue himself from prison.” But the moment I rise a bit with the help of the friends, I can already carry on by myself. I am not a prisoner that is chained down anymore! I have a friend who helps me on the outside to get out of this pit.

But if after I have been helped to rise a bit, I am too lazy and don’t exert myself, if I don’t immediately turn to the Light that Reforms, but wait and rise simply with the current of time, with the help of the environment, then I don’t draw upon myself new spiritual powers.

The moment I get an opportunity, I immediately have to start working by myself. Otherwise the Creator will help me get out of the pit once or twice and then leave me since I don’t do anything on my own. He sends me help: through the group, through the friends, in different ways, but if I don’t respond to it enough, He leaves me.

It turns out that He has to add evil and sufferings down below where I fell, different corporeal problems, so that I will finally understand that I have no choice and that I have to rise. I understand that it is worthwhile to exert myself a little and to advance for the lowest corporeal reasons. I will try to escape from corporeality to spirituality because I feel bad in my ordinary life.

In that case I don’t rise by drawing the Light that Reforms but because of ordinary animal sufferings.

Question: What is the difference between a person who overcomes the evil that is revealed in him through his efforts and the person who doesn’t make efforts in order to overcome and waits until the suffering accumulates to the extent that in the end it will force him to move from his place?

Answer: By a person making his own efforts, he saves himself from suffering and saves time. The sufferings that were spared multiplied by the time he saved gives a huge advantage according to the intensity of the suffering that he avoided. And with all of that, one needs to multiply by another factor included in this formula, the Creator. Through this state He gives you the opportunity for contact with Him, but you degrade the opportunity and don’t go toward the connection.

All of these opportunities that you degraded and didn’t realize accumulate with you as additional Aviut (coarseness/thickness) and as punishment since you didn’t want to pay attention to the fact that it was a call that came from the Creator. Rather, you turned it into a regular problem, which came from relatives or from a friend that insulted you.

You didn’t see that the Creator sent His messenger to you, and according to your level, you should have recognized it. So what do you suggest to do with yourself in this situation? We are forced to give another few blows, pinches, so that you will feel that it isn’t by accident that all these people are surrounding you, but everything comes from the Creator since there is none else besides Him.

It’s because you are in a state of unconsciousness and don’t feel it. You need to be brought back to consciousness so that you will be able to rise to the next level. Each level, except your relationship, includes the relationship with the Creator: “Israel, the Torah and the Creator are One.” But if you don’t pay attention that everything is connected to the Creator, that from the beginning everything came from Him and in the end will return to Him, then you will not complete your clarification.

Thus, you need to see the entire world as angels—whether good or bad, meaning with pleasant sensations and unpleasant sensations—directing you towards the right path. They can be relatives or your children, those who touch your heart, or they can be total strangers, or it can be some event in the world.

No matter what form it comes to you—via your wife, your children, your friends, the police, your manager at work, health problems, the weather, or the news—you must accept it as different manifestations of the Creator. It is He who stands before you and asks: “Well, when are you coming to Me? I so want to embrace you! Come climb my mountain already!” However, you turn your back on Him and look down at your feet. You don’t pay attention that the entire world is the language of the Creator who is talking to you.

The Creator has set immutable laws. If we don’t know how to use them correctly, we feel bad, and if we know, we feel good.

The main point here is to understand that the laws of nature don’t change in all its levels. If this seems to us the opposite, it is because the conditions are changing and the same laws are revealed to us in a different way.

In space, for example, gravity “suddenly” disappears. Have the laws changed? No. If you return to the initial conditions you will discover them again.

Question: But if the Creator has already created us and set clear laws; why do we have to change? Why do we have to work for Him?

Answer: Under the current conditions, you work in order to profit for your own benefit and not for Him.

Question: But we still study the wisdom of Kabbalah. So why is our path full of thorns? It seems as if there is nowhere we can step.

Answer: It is because you have become more sensitive. A small child doesn’t know how to be careful. An ordinary person doesn’t have too many inhibitions. But a clever person already knows the possible outcomes of different actions. So it turns out that you have become more clever and more sensitive. About that, it is said: “He who adds knowledge adds pain.”

You can, of course, lead a simple, modest life without any questions and claims, work in some mechanical job that doesn’t require any mental efforts. But if you want to be “in,” if you want to advance, to develop, you will undoubtedly encounter problems and pressures. There is nothing new here.

Question: But I am an ordinary person, I am not looking for problems. And if there are problems, where is the reward?

Answer: If no pressure were put on you, you wouldn’t be asking about the reward, right? Now you have started to think and you are right.

Well a simple logical answer should be that the “pressure” must be the reward itself. If I make efforts along the spiritual path and to the same extent I receive blows, it means that this is my reward. It really does seem that way, and it requires an unbiased examination, an investigation.

If, for example, I am going through all kinds of tests with different medical instruments: They scan me with different rays and discover numerous problems. There is a phenomenon that is very common among students who study medicine; they discover they suffer from all the diseases they are studying.

So what is the reward for the study? What can we tell them?

– It will pass, everything will be fine.

– What do you mean it’s fine, if it’s time to hop onto the operating table?!

This is the feeling they experience.

Question: But still, will there be some relief along the way?

Answer: It will be when you feel the parental love in the blows. We should understand that the flaws are revealed to us, that’s all. How can we overcome them? How can we see not a problem in them but salvation?

First, it is a good thing that the place of the flaw was revealed to me—after all, the Creator has created the evil inclination.

Now I feel the necessity of the wisdom of Kabbalah as a means of correction. I can use this method only if I am connected to the group, to the study, if I enter the group as deeply as I can.

Then I discover that all the unpleasant “surprises” are revealed only in order to speed up my work. They are like calls to complete the necessary efforts. After all, the incomplete efforts leave a very strong feeling of bitterness.

Baal HaSulam talks about it in Letter 19: “The strong passion that is incomplete leaves great sorrow behind it, to the extent of one’s passion.” In such a case a person has to finish what he has started as fast as he can. Otherwise he is called “a fool who is sitting idly eating his own flesh.” Here the breakthrough is very important and it depends on our unity.

Baal HaSulam, “The Wisdom of Kabbalah and Philosophy”: When we first receive the present, we still do not refer to the giver of the gift as one who loves us, all the more so if the giver of the present is important and the receiver is not equal to him.

However, the repetitive giving and the perseverance will make even the most important person seem like a true, equal lover. This is because the law of love does not apply between great and small, as two real lovers must feel equal.

Question: Baal HaSulam writes about love, but where is this love? There are only sufferings and disasters everywhere. Only a few days ago 26 people were killed in a school in the US…

Answer: Has anyone promised you that such things won’t happen in our world? Everything that you see here is taking place inside your egoistic desire. Rise to another desire, rise to the next level, and you will see that everything is different. You will rise to the second floor.

Now you see reality through your ego, which by definition cannot be anything good. Although I sometimes feel something positive, it is in fact bad too, but in the meantime I don’t identify it and accept it as good. We are all in a desire to receive, which is not even real, but “animal.” So, in fact there can be nothing good in our world.

So what do you expect? That things will proceed differently? We are immersed in an ego that is opposite from the Light and therefore there can only be disasters here.

But in order to allow you to rest in between them so that you will at least be able to relax, to calm your nerves, notice the details, and perceive something, then in this world, the lowest level, man lives literally by mercy and not only in pain, despite his nature.

Why? Because he has another destiny, a goal. If it weren’t for the destiny and the future goal, our world would be immersed in the darkness of endless sufferings and pain from morning to night, day after day. This is the nature of the egoistic intention which is opposite from the Light.

A slight illumination still penetrates this world, but only in order to allow us to exist here for a while and to start rising. In every other sense, the Light and the desire to receive are totally opposite from one another. It is to such an extent that we cannot even imagine.

If there were really great sufferings here, we would have no chance to rise above them and to at least think about something. In the meantime, we are being held above an ocean of pain, but if we don’t use the time we were given correctly, the Lights will disappear and we will fall into great sufferings that will “launder” us well, until we cry out for help. Then we will be given a break, and we will be examined to see whether the “shaking” was enough or not.

By the way, with regard to the Jewish people, one “shaking” is usually not enough. Go out to the street and talk to people, they feel that everything is fine. They have already forgotten about the missiles and have not learned anything from last fall.

Question: What about us, those who study Kabbalah?

Answer: You are twice as stubborn. All the others at least don’t know what it is about, but you are truly stubborn. What have you done with what you have heard during the lessons?

Our problem is the shattering. Our correction is the connection. What have you done for the unity of all of creation? First, do you help our friends all over the world to connect? Do you help them be a greater, more special force that wants to rise above the ego and connect the whole world in order to build a place for the revelation of the Creator and to bring Him contentment? When He is revealed, He enjoys more and more, and then we too enjoy what we have done for Him. This is called an equivalence of form. So what else should you know? Only to work for unity and connection, for mutual guarantee, for the integral education.

But you come to the lesson, listen, and then go your way. In this case, the ordinary person on the street is a greater righteous than you. Since he doesn’t disrespect what is important, he simply doesn’t know about it. Much less is demanded of him than of you.

We have to be really fearful. Time passes and there is much more that we can do. We really must feel responsible not for ourselves but for the group, for the world. After all, the disrespect is a result of everyone thinking only about himself and being resigned to fate in advance. Don’t think about what will happen to you; think about the fact that you are responsible for everyone. Then you will have a different attitude. In the meantime we don’t feel the responsibility that chokes us and motivates us. The ego is destroying us…
