Record of Relationship With the Creator

962.2Question: Were there any spiritual languages before the appearance of Hebrew?

Answer: No, there were not. How can there be any other language? After all, we are talking about a person’s feeling of the Creator’s impact on him.

The only thing that distinguishes a person from the Creator is an egoistic desire to receive. And if one wants to receive the impact of the Creator, one must become like the Creator and work on himself.

In this case, he can reveal the impact of the Creator on him and record it in a sensory form, that is, the influence from above to below, from right to left, from left to right, and so on. In this way, a person begins to record his relationships with the Creator.

The Difference Between a Letter and a Word

610.1Question: If I feel some influence of the Creator on me, then in order to convey this feeling to someone else I can draw a letter or several letters and it will already be a word. What is the difference between a letter and a word?

Answer: A letter expresses only one quality and a word expresses a sequence of qualities that flow from one to another and therefore express relationships.

Question: And all this was invented by people?

Answer: Nobody invented anything. Kabbalists were feeling the influence of the Creator on themselves and were recording it in such a way.

9th of Av—An Internal View

153We need to unite among us, and as soon as we reveal that we really want to unite but are not able to do it, this will be the state of “Ruined Jerusalem,” the ruin of the Temple. We strive to unite and do not know how to do it, and therefore, we cry and ask the Creator to unite us.

We cry precisely because we are not capable of connection, or maybe even because we are not able to cry and regret it and are not able to ask for help from the Creator. Therefore, no matter how many tears we shed, the Creator does not answer us because our request is not real, not sincere. And it is called “Jerusalem in ruins.”

If we advance more and more this way, then eventually we are overwhelmed with tears of utter despair, and then the Creator corrects the connection between us and reveals Himself inside it. And that means we are coming to liberation.

The shattering lies only in the lack of connection between us. The First and Second Temples mean that even then there was an internal connection between us. We are talking only about internal categories and not external ones.

Mutual Movement

151Question: As we know, Kabbalah uses the numerical values of letters. In order to explain spiritual states, Hebrew letters were derived from the Kabbalists researching the very nature of the spiritual world. What are letters and numbers, and what is the connection between them?

Answer: There are no numbers in spirituality. There are letters that depict the movement from the upper one to the lower one, from the Creator to the created beings, to the degree in which created beings can perceive His action on themselves. Therefore, a letter is called Ot (sign), that is, an indication that a person begins to perceive the attitude of the upper force toward him.

Perception begins from the point when he desires to attain the Creator, the upper force, in the measure of his similarity. When a person reveals his desire to bestow, to give pleasure and fulfillment to the Creator, then to the extent of his ability to express it, he begins to recognize that the Creator was ready for the relationship with him from the very beginning.

It turns out that here emerges the connection between the creation and the Creator, meaning equality between the attitude of man toward the Creator and of the Creator toward man. Such a mutual movement of one toward the other leads to mutual fulfillment: a person raises his desire to the Creator, and the Creator fulfills his desire with His presence—light.

How Can You Increase the Influence of the Light on Yourself?

528.03Question: Is it possible to evoke the influence of the surrounding light to consciously understand what is happening only through the sources or are there any other methods? How can I increase the influence of the light on myself?

Answer: You can increase the influence of the light by correcting your egoism to altruism. The main condition is “Love your neighbor as yourself.” In this way, to the measure a person comes closer to this, he begins to feel the upper governing force through everything that exists around him.

Light has altruistic qualities. In order to feel it according to the law of equivalence of form, you must show the same altruistic quality to something that is outside of you, say to another person. To this extent, you will begin to feel the light.

The Power of the Intention to Bestow

509The creation initially created by the Creator was very small. But when it continued to develop and grow, it manifested a desire to become like the Creator, which was not its own. This depends on the Creator and is called the point in the heart.

This point gradually grows, which causes the growth of the egoistic desire. This is how we develop to a state called 13 years, 20 years, i.e., nominal years of our development.

Thus, we come to a state of wanting at all costs to move away from our original egoistic desire, which we already feel as opposite to the Creator.

We want to become like Him, that is, to change our egoistic desire to receive. But we cannot change it because this is how the Creator made it. So, what can we add to it? The intention to bestow.

This is our task: to receive from the Creator the quality of bestowal, which will be felt in us as an intention to bestow. It is as if we receive the imprint of the Creator upon ourselves. Our desires remain, but they will be ruled by the intention for the sake of bestowal.

This intention, from zero, called the restriction (Tzimtzum) of the desire to receive, will continue to develop. The desire to receive will grow, and the desire to bestow will grow above it.

Thus, in our nature, in the desire to receive, we will be able to grow always in likeness to the Creator since our intention will be directed toward bestowal. In other words, we will continue to develop as creatures in the desire to receive and as similar to the Creator in the intention to bestow.

This is the process of our development until we can clothe all the egoistic desires that arise in us into an intention for the sake of bestowal. This is the path we must go through.

Currently, we are starting on it gradually. The most important thing is that each of us is ready to help the other. Because, in fact, this is what building oneself in the likeness of the Creator is. By helping others, we build ourselves in the likeness of the Creator. It is not like in our egoistic world. On the contrary, mutual bestowal, mutual help in spirituality is its own structure.

Two Types of Influence of Light

276.02Question: Can it be said that the light affects me when I consciously seek to know it? Or like a child in this world, can it affect me even without my awareness?

Answer: Light constantly surrounds us and affects us. We exist inside it. But the point is that Kabbalah speaks about the direction of the influence of light from the Creator to us and about how we can cause its influence on us.

A person who is in attainment consciously evokes the influence of light on himself. This is one impact. And there is another effect when the light affects him without his desire for it.

Not to Read, But to Attain!

525Comment: There is so much depth in the articles we read! It seems like I have already heard it, read it ten times, and ten times there is something new.

My Response: It is because you need not to read, but to attain. You need to change yourself, to rise above yourself. Then the content will be within you.

Question: Let’s say you look at the text and enter into it, how do you make all these transformations?

Answer: I do not enter into anything. It surfaces inside me. Or you can say that I am speculatively entering the spiritual world inside me.

Question: While studying, for example, The Book of Zohar, you give us certain recommendations: read in this way, think in that way, together, and everyone adapts to it. But you are still talking, and what we hear is limited, we do not really hear what you are asking us to do.

Perhaps this is our fantasy working. How well do your students work with the material that you give?

Answer: I cannot say. They work as much as they can. I am both satisfied and dissatisfied, but this is what it is.

Question: While studying, should a person just endure it or look for something within himself? For example, you give definitions, but they are so abstract that there is nothing to cling to in order to find these images within me.

Answer: Search—everything is within you! I understand that you cannot grasp where it is in you. It is spinning somewhere out there, but it is not clear exactly where. This is the work.

Question: What about fantasy, when a person begins to invent something for himself?

Answer: This is wrong. We need not fantasy, but attainment and work in a group.

Question: What is the difference between attainment and understanding?

Answer: You understand with a brain that is silly and disconnected from reality. You do not know if this is correct or not. Today you understand it this way and tomorrow in a different way. It is logical in accordance with some facts and with some theory that is inside you. This is an understanding or even, maybe, an awareness.

Attainment, however, is something that leaves no doubt and cannot be changed since it is the revelation of the Creator’s system within you to the extent that you have become similar to it. Meaning, this is absolute!

Combinations of Light and the Desire to Receive

243.04Question: Let’s say a person living in this world feels some kind of descent or ascent: good or bad mood, and some situations happen to him. Is it all the effect of light?

Answer: Yes, of course. This is how we feel the light. It transforms within us into all kinds of scenes and images.

But in principle, there is nothing but light and the desire opposite to it. These two opposite qualities—light (the desire to bestow, to fill) and the opposite desire to receive, i.e., positive and negative qualities—exist only in nature. Their combinations with each other are presented to us as all kinds of objects and phenomena.

The Point in the Heart Is the Foremost Hidden Desire

232.08Question: What is the connection between Reshimot, and is there an influence of the point in the heart on them?

Answer: The point in the heart is the central and foremost hidden desire in us. We have to connect it with the desires of other people and with the Creator. Then we will bring the entire creation to the correction, to one single desire called “Adam.”

All human history is the revelation of Reshimot.
