Synapses for Transmitting Spiritual Information

214Kabbalah is the science of how to reach the revelation of the Creator in our world, to feel and grasp Him to such an extent that you can pass it on to other people and to the next generations. Kabbalah teaches how to perceive reality that we cannot feel with the five ordinary senses.

But if it cannot be sensed by our organs of perception, then how can it be perceived by our mind? It cannot! After all, our mind is the result of impressions from our world. As we develop in this world, we build different forms, discernments, and images, all kinds of connections and synapses in our brain.

This is why we are not able to perceive the spiritual world. To do this, we need to develop new organs of perception: to open up new connections between us in our mind and in our heart, which are not present in an ordinary person. But we can do it.

If we gradually build such connections, then they work like synapses in the brain and connect all kinds of concepts and opposites for us. In essence, these are formulas for connecting everything that exists in matter and space.

In this way, we build vessels for perceiving reality within ourselves that is above the corporeal senses and mind, and we begin to feel the spiritual world.

A Man Is the One Who Achieves the Quality of Bestowal

294.3Comment: The influence of the environment on a person is enormous. For example, an African who grew up in Russia becomes the same as all Russians.

My Response: This is natural because you take an individual and let him develop under the influence of the environment. But this has nothing to do with Kabbalah.

This can be attributed to religions, to all kinds of beliefs, philosophies, anything, and in whatever may fall within the framework of this world for an ordinary person.

There are very few individuals in the world who are concerned about elevating themselves and following the point of their soul; there are very few of them in the world, maybe a couple of million, for whom the earthly does not exist. They consider everything earthly to be an animal level of development; therefore, they must rise to the next level of “man.” Their discernment takes place according to a completely different system.

A man is the term for one who achieves the quality of bestowal. That is, one who makes a complete restriction on one’s entire animal part, feeding it only what is necessary like with a domestic animal, and directing everything else only toward bestowal, toward connection with others, and to filling outside of oneself— aimed ultimately at the Creator.

The Ari Is a Great Soul

032.01Question: The spiritual world is the world of our relationships at the level of intentions. In order to convey all the feelings that a person experiences in the spiritual world, the Kabbalists of antiquity invented the “language of branches.” They could see the roots of everything that happens and their consequences in our world, and they took the words of our world and explained spiritual processes with them. This was their technique.

What did the Ari do?

Answer: The Ari is a great soul who was able to attain the depths of the universe.

Let’s say you are in front of some machine or computer and you start to explore it, press the keys, and though you don’t know what it is, you study the screen and keyboard. Gradually you begin to understand how you can interact with the keys, with the pictures, and with yourself.

You discover that this computer is not outside of you in front of you, but rather it is inside yourself. You begin to evoke certain feelings, thoughts, intentions, and attitudes in yourself. By typing all kinds of instructions inside yourself, you cause the corresponding consequences. Thus, you study yourself and the world around you as an interaction of special forces.

For the first time in the history of humanity, the Ari revealed this special interaction between man and nature, described it, and taught this to his students, mainly to one of them whose name was Chaim Vital. And Chaim Vital wrote down everything he heard from the Ari, and it came out in a large collection of books.

Prerequisites for the Appearance of the Language of Branches

527.04The first Kabbalists expressed themselves in narrative language and described all kinds of spiritual processes through something close to legends and fairy tales, and by referring to inanimate, vegetative, animal and human nature they did not mean materiality at all, but spiritual, higher forces of nature. But at the same time they understood each other because they felt this upper sphere, an upper field, and their feelings were similar.

And then, as our egoism developed more and more from generation to generation, they began to feel how much further they were moving away from ordinary people and they could not tell them anything, they could not explain, show, or reveal anything. And here the problem arises, how can you communicate with people who do not feel the field of internal connection between themselves, called the upper world, the spiritual world, but feel this connection only to a limited extent in their five sense organs, including sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch.

Kabbalists of the past did not particularly transmit this knowledge. They communicated with their own kind, with those who feel the upper nature besides our nature.

Moreover, they discovered that there are five spiritual sense organs in a person, and they began to compare them with material ones. They took words from our world and began to describe spiritual actions, qualities, and interactions through them. Thus they developed a language for themselves called “sfat haanafim” –  “the language of branches,” parallel to our sense organs.

It turns out that one takes the concepts of our world and describes some actions, interactions, and connections with them. At the same time, you have a good picture, supposedly about people who communicate with each other, get married, give birth, and develop, and so on.

But, in principle, we are not talking about that, but about internal qualities, and how Kabbalists attain upper matter in these internal qualities.

An Opportunity to Rise above Ego

934Question: You write that a group is a lens that focuses light. What does that mean?

Answer: In order to begin to feel the true nature and the Creator as its source, we need to rise above our egoism. In order to receive an opportunity to rise above the ego, we need some kind of strength, resources, and means. Therefore we are given a chance to gather in a group and start trying to rise together with it.

In the group you can see to what extent you are an egoist, how much you have to change yourself from the desire to receive to the desire to bestow, how much you make excuses for yourself, are selfish or, on the contrary, you try to annul yourself, to subjugate yourself to the group and so on. Practically all Kabbalists write about this.

It is precisely in this way that a person can reduce his egoism, develop qualities similar to the Creator in himself, and raise himself above ego in order to really begin feeling the upper nature.

Spiritual Message

234Comment: The moment you convey information, when you pass something out of yourself, it is recorded on video or audio. When we watch these recordings, it is like we are watching this movie anew every time, it is not not just the same movie, but a new one.

My Response: Naturally, because the information itself is a spiritual message, and it depends on the state of any listener each time. You will read and view it dozens of times and see it as completely different each time because there is light in it, and you will choose from this light what you can in accordance with your qualities at that moment.

Question: Does this have some kind of time limit? Let’s say it still affects the state of the listener for a week, and after that it does not.

Answer: No, there is no such thing in spirituality. It is just that a person is under the influence of certain internal conditions, but the information itself is eternal. It constantly exists in the same volume. I transformed it to a certain level, lowered it, clothed it in some new covering, and starting from this degree and below, everyone can perceive it, in accordance with their qualities.

See the Entire System as a Whole

226Comment: When a child is born, they begin to stuff him with unnecessary information and with various stereotypes. Does any previous data, parents for example, influence a child’s perception of the world? Or is any baby just a blank tape on which you can record everything?

My Response: No, absolutely not. We are in one common system and are completely interconnected both in our good and bad qualities and our deeds. This is a massive system that we cannot convey to our listeners or readers right now. To do this, you need to see it as a whole because it is not discrete, but rather analogue and integral.

Therefore it is impossible to understand any fate if you do not see the entire system and the way it influences a particular soul at every moment in its historical development, the way all this transfuses and affects it, and causes certain reactions in it. In addition, if freewill is turned on in this soul, then everything changes in the entire system! In general, this is unpredictable; we are not able to cover this.

King David spoke about this in Psalm 139: When I reveal Your world, I see an amazing harmony shimmering in the one great entire single soul, and I also have a place there. I was created in the depths of this system, gradually came out of it, and now I begin to attain it, as if surfacing to its highest level. How great is Your deed, Creator.

This is approximately how he described his feelings two and a half thousand years ago.

Spirituality Cannot Be Conveyed by the Language of Our World

137Question: Lurianic Kabbalah began to develop in the world in the 16th century and to this day is the basis of this wisdom. All Kabbalistic books written before, for example, the Tanakh, The Book of Zohar, the Talmud, etc. talk about one thing: how to balance your egoistic nature and reveal the Creator. What is special about the Lurianic Kabbalah?

Answer: The fact is that it is not easy to tell a person in our world about the Creator and His actions because it is a completely different world, different relationships, and different actions. All this is absolutely not what we observe and what we are used to in the corporeal world. This is absolutely incomparable with our qualities, actions, and thoughts, and therefore, it is difficult to retell something from the spiritual world in the language of our world.

The spiritual world is not like ours at all. It is a world not so much of thoughts but rather of intentions. And certainly not of physical actions. But how can this be communicated to a person?

Kabbalists of antiquity were already born with such a feeling and gradually developed in their feelings to a more general concept of where they are with their special qualities of bestowal, connection, love, and penetration into the hidden, secret forces of nature.

This is perhaps the hardest thing to explain. After all, people believe that in the form we are in now, we can feel the upper world. But how is it possible?

We experience the corporeal world through our five senses. If we had other sensory organs, we would get completely different impressions both about ourselves and about the world around us. Therein lies the problem.

A Wonderful Quality of the Wisdom of Kabbalah

530Therefore, we must ask, Why then did the Kabbalists obligate every person to study the wisdom of Kabbalah? Indeed, there is a great thing about it, which should be publicized: There is a wonderful, invaluable remedy to those who engage in the wisdom of Kabbalah. Although they do not understand what they are learning, through the yearning and the great desire to understand what they are learning, they awaken upon themselves the lights that surround their souls (Baal HaSulam, Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot).

The fact is that Kabbalistic texts speak about the structure of the soul and the structure of the entire system of spiritual forces. By studying them, we awaken these spiritual forces that influence us with greater intensity and develop us with greater speed in the correct direction.

Therefore, by studying Kabbalah in a group with a certain number of people who yearn for the same goal, the revelation of the Creator, the revelation of the upper world, advances us very intensively.

If a person along with everyone in the group reads, say The Book of Zohar, and utters some words he does not understand the meaning of, he still awakens the surrounding light with his desire, which then becomes his inner light.

On a New Segment of the Path

760.2The next degree of our development is “Adam” (Man). It lies in the fact that we begin to understand nature and behave in accordance with it. It is not nature that pushes and leads us, pulling all the strings, but we ourselves learn from it and arrange ourselves in accordance with it, each one of us and all of us together in a new society.

For this we need to learn and acquire a different nature. How will people realize this need and overcome their inertia and self-confidence? How will they get out of them? By what blows? Will it take a lot of blood or a little?

Look what is happening in the world! We suddenly find ourselves in a completely new world; it changes so quickly. All this is in order to lead us to the next state.

The inanimate, vegetative, and animate levels are automatically involved through a single law of nature; they exist in harmony, although we do not see this harmony with our egoistic feelings.

A person, however, is egoistic, contrary to nature, and must bring himself into conformity with it. We need to get into contact with each other in order to create a system within ourselves that would come into contact with the general force of nature. Then the inanimate, vegetative, and animate levels of nature will also connect to the degree of “Man.” This is where development ends.

This is what we must come to. Now we are on a very seriously advancing segment of the path. It’s an interesting time!
