Question: What is MAN?

Answer: From the point of view of Kabbalah, MAN is raising the desires of a person to the Creator and a request to correct them. However, according to the description in the Torah, it seems to be the answer of the Creator from above to people. Basically, it is the same thing.

When a person raises his desires to the Creator, then in fact this is the Creator sending him such help. It turns out that a person’s food, MAN (manna), the quality of Bina, as it were, comes from the Creator. Although everyone is filled with the same MAN, everyone has their own sensation.

When the people enter the land of Israel, MAN (manna) stops falling because they no longer need it. They have received the land, now they must properly cultivate and use it, that is, correctly combine Malchut and Bina.

Question: What is MAN?

Answer: MAN is what a person turns to the Creator with, but not something, as it were, that falls from above. From the Kabbalistic point of view, MAN is considered the opportunity to turn to the Creator. But this is a more serious, sane interpretation.

And when it is said that MAN falls from above, it means that a person who appeals to the Creator receives an answer from Him. This answer manages everything in a person and corrects him to the level where he begins to receive another contact with the Creator.

Try to turn to the Creator with joy, because we are in the world created by Him and we have someone to turn to. To do this we need to step a little on our egoism that demands and demands all the time. We are constantly in sadness and dissatisfaction from this.

Stop crying to the Creator that He does not give fulfillment. On the contrary, if we can turn to Him, it is already a joy. And if I want to enjoy the opportunity to contact the Creator, then I will begin to receive this joy from the Creator because it will become the Kli that He can fill. It’s not just psychology; it’s a spiritual exercise that you have to work on all the time.

The Creator gives us this exercise so that we turn our relation away from ourselves toward the Creator. Instead of digging into myself and feeling sad that there is no fulfillment in my egoism, I turn to the Creator with joy, and this becomes my spiritual Kli.

It takes a person many years to accept this patent. But if he were to listen and follow this advice, he would immediately advance. Try to turn to the Creator in joy all day long.

Everyone has periods of sadness and doubt, which can sometimes last for several years. But as soon as a person realizes that he is turning to the Creator and therefore should be in joy all the time because he is facing an upper force, from this moment a new stage in his life begins. He has already reached contact with the Creator.

A person may not yet feel this contact, just like the embryo inside the mother is not aware of itself. But he is already entering the state of a spiritual embryo, and if he remains in joy despite everything that happens to him, it means that he rises above his egoism and passes through the border of restriction.

To achieve reaching out to the Creator with the desire to please Him, thinking not about what is happening inside me but about the Creator who is outside, this is the main revolution that we need to make. This is entering the border with the spiritual world.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, initially, only the Creator existed—the will to bestow and to fulfill. In order for Him to be able to realize this desire, He created the will to receive, to be fulfilled. This is the matter of creation.

As a result, the entire universe consists of two opposite qualities: the will to bestow, to fill, to love, the qualities of the Creator, and the will to receive, to fill only oneself even at the expense of others, the qualities of creation.

The will to receive does not have to bestow in order to change and become similar to the Creator. It cannot emanate anything from itself. But it can receive in order to bestow like a child would eat to please his mother, and although he receives physically in action, he is actually bestowing as he acts in order to please her. We do the same with respect to the Creator.

We receive everything from Him, but if we restrict ourselves and agree that we will receive only in order to bring Him contentment, then we become the bestowing ones, equal to the Creator. He bestows upon us because He is the very quality of bestowal, we receive with intention to bring Him contentment, and then we are equal to Him.

The equivalence of qualities with Him reveals the Creator to us, and we begin to feel Him, understand, explore, and be in absolute contact with Him.

So, the Creator has only the will to bestow. The creation has both a will and an intention: the will to receive and the intention “for my own sake” or “for the sake of others,” including “for the sake of the Creator.”

By altering one’s desires from bigger to smaller and one’s intentions “for one’s own sake” or “for the sake of others,” a person can raise or lower oneself relative to the Creator, come closer or move away from Him. In this case, the intention changes the essence of the action itself. That is the point of our correction.

We cannot change the action, but by changing the intention from “for our own sake” to “for the sake of others,” the meaning of our action can change to the opposite and become bestowal instead of reception. If I receive from the Creator in order to bring Him contentment, then I am considered to be the one who gives Him pleasure, that is, the bestower.

This is how we begin to understand our work: by correctly combining the will to receive with the intention to bestow, a person correctly forms himself, adjusts relative to the Creator. This is called working in three lines.

Question: What should be emphasized in making requests and addressing the Creator?

Answer: A request to the Creator can be formed only through a group. The state in which you want to see the group in the next moment should be addressed to the Creator. There is no other way.

You must understand that your soul is your relationship to the group. You can’t get away from this. We are still egoists and cannot imagine it correctly, but it is so.

We study that only through a group can one turn to the Creator; otherwise He will not hear us. The upper force is integral. It is absolutely in the entire volume of the general desire created by it and hears only what comes from it.

Therefore you cannot turn to the Creator with any personal request; it is simply useless and even harmful. You can appeal to Him only from the general desire of the group and only for the sake of the general desire!

A person who turns to the Creator uses himself as a potential force. And if we all begin to address Him in this way, then each of us will fulfill his part as Malchut, and the group is the nine upper Sefirot. Thus we will come to a state where our opinions, our desires, and our requests will unite together into one single desire for the benefit of others.

It doesn’t matter if the private desires do not coincide in some way. The main thing is that everyone will act for the sake of others, for others. And then we will receive an answer, and very quickly, almost instantaneously, because our conversion will be like the reflected light (Ohr Hozer) in which the direct light (Ohr Yashar) is clothed.

Question: How can one check if one has a correct intention?

Answer: You verify it by your correct attitude toward your friends. As you relate to your friends, so you relate to the Creator.

And don’t lie to yourself that you treat the Creator differently: “You love Him, but friends …” There is no such thing because within your attitude toward the friends, you shape your attitude toward the Creator. Not otherwise!

How can one reach a prayer that will come from the very bottom of the heart and will reach the Creator? We need to imagine that we are inside the Creator, the only force, apart from which there is nothing.

And therefore everything we receive and feel, everything that happens in our thoughts and desires, comes to us from the upper force, the good who does good. And if I don’t perceive it as good and benevolent, then I feel suffering and have to ask the Creator to change my perception.

I have nowhere else to turn. I can’t change myself because I didn’t create myself. I can only ask the Creator to help me change. Moreover, I ask not to change my desire to receive, but to add to the desire given to me by the Creator an intention for the sake of bestowal. In all my qualities, desires, and aspirations I want to work for the sake of bestowal.

I’m not asking to change my desires, but rather my intentions. And to the extent that my intentions are similar to the Creator’s intentions, I will reveal Him and His desire to bestow to me. We will meet with Him within our intentions, and there I will reveal my merging with the Creator.

There are no personal calculations on the part of the Creator, everything depends only on us. The Creator is absolute goodness toward everyone. He is always in absolute bestowal, without any delay. Therefore if we are ready, we will get His answer. And if we are not ready, then we have nowhere to receive and feel His attitude to us; every moment He tries to advance us to merge with Him.

In order for a prayer to awaken the upper force to answer, it must resemble the upper force to some extent. That is, it should be on the same wave-length, the same frequency as the upper force.

The upper force works for bestowal, which means that our prayer must be close to bestowal to some extent. At least a little bit! And then, to this extent, we obligate the Creator, the upper force, to hear this request and to respond.

We are trying to get closer and closer to our friends because we understand that if we do not achieve connection, we will not feel anything but this world. We will not escape from the individual perception of reality in which we feel nothing but ourselves.

Instead of the true reality, a person feels, sees, and understands only what is inside him, inside his desire to receive. And this is a picture of this world that is deceptive and opposite of the true reality.

Therefore, we need to understand three things. The first is that without connection between us, we will not be able to feel the upper world. The second is that we will never be able to achieve this connection. And the third is that it is possible only with the help of the upper force, the force of bestowal and unity. To the extent that the upper one gives us His power, we will advance to a connection within which we can feel the spiritual world and the Creator.

And the fact that we do not want to get closer is given to us to help us begin to understand what we lack and what hinders us. And then, in order to reverse this resistance into connection and turn it into its opposite—approaching spirituality—we need prayer.

We need a request to the Creator to turn the force of our egoism, rejection, hatred, passion, pride, ambition, all our aspirations to distance ourselves from others, into its opposite, into connection. The Creator is able to do it! We only need to ask.

I do not give advice to the Creator, but I bow down and am ready to fulfill all His requirements as far as I can. After all if I do not agree with what is happening, it turns out that I am telling the Creator how to treat me.
