In the News (Project Syndicate): A Nobel Prize laureate in economics, Joseph Stiglitz, writes:

“I’ve been attending the World Economic Forum’s annual conference in Davos, Switzerland – where the so-called global elite convenes to discuss the world’s problems – since 1995. Never have I come away more dispirited than I have this year. …

“The CEOs of Davos were euphoric this year about the return to growth, strong profits, and soaring executive compensation. Economists reminded them that this growth is not sustainable, and has never been inclusive; but such arguments have little impact in a world where materialism is king.

“So forget the platitudes about values that CEOs recite in the opening paragraphs of their speeches. They may lack the candor of Michael Douglas’s character in the 1987 movie Wall Street, but the message hasn’t changed: ‘Greed is good.’ What depresses me is that, though the message is obviously false, so many in power believe it to be true.”

My Comment: Contrary to Joseph Stiglitz, I do not feel depressed because I understand humanity’s egoism and from the start do not expect any good deeds from the economic elite. Moreover, I would wish them luck. Because the more they descend into their own greed, the quicker the world will see the truth and will finally become mature enough to apply the wisdom of Kabbalah.

The wisdom of Kabbalah says that we need to unite and demand the realization of the methodology for the correction of the world from the people of Israel. Even in ancient times the Egyptian Pharaoh understood that the Jews were running from him to true unity, to the ascent above egoism. This has to be understood by the nations today even more clearly.

The essence of the wisdom of Kabbalistic methodology, inherent in the people of Israel, is such: connect with one another to such an extent that egoism will no longer separate us or disturb us. Demonstrating this possibility to all, the Jews will fulfill that which the world awaits from them, even if unconsciously.

Having found themselves at a dead end, people will feel this. Humanity will begin to become aware that the solution to the problem is hidden in the people of Israel.

And everything else depends on how capable the people of Israel are of realizing the idea of unity within itself—then showing and presenting it to the world.

Today, the Jews are hated, without a clear understanding as to why. Instead of an inherent cause, reasons and excuses are offered for this hatred. Therefore, this hatred requires a correct orientation in consciousness so that everyone together gets down to business: on the one hand, those who aspire toward internal correction—the “people of Israel,” on the other hand, all others.

In reality, these two parts together solve one mutual problem. It is simply necessary to begin with someone and that’s why unity begins with those who are already ripe for it. And then, on a voluntary basis, based on desire, by way of positive example, wider circles connect to them.

In this manner, it is entirely unnecessary to drive the Jews out of their land; it’s not necessary to kill them. It is necessary to motivate them to create a strong, interwoven society, spreading the upper Light to the entire world.

The people of Israel, who emerged from the group of Abraham’s disciples, do not exist for themselves. They exist in order to bring the method of connecting with the upper force and revealing the entirety of nature, the quality called “the Creator,” to all of humanity. This group is obliged to realize its mission.

Therefore, as humanity develops and becomes desperate from its development, it starts making complaints to this group for their aimless, failed, and empty lives. The more the nations of the world develop, the more complaints they will make to the group called Israel, demanding that it fulfill its mission.

Humanity does not know about the mission of the people of Israel, nor the reasons for their hatred of the Jews, because it also is influenced by the concealment. Abraham’s group itself, after the long journey it has made throughout history, forgot what exactly it must fulfill and why it is hated.

But anti-Semitism exists as a phenomenon that will not disappear until this group fulfills its purpose, either under pressure from humanity or through the awakening and understanding of this group itself.

Either way, this group will unite and show an example of unity to all mankind. Then the upper Light will spread through this group to all people, as Baal HaSulam writes in “Introduction to The Book of Zohar.” In this way, the entire world will come to the desired correction.

After the breaking, Adam’s soul split into two parts. One part consisted of the souls that were awakened at the first opportunity when they were illuminated by the upper Light; they are called Israel (straight to the Creator).

It was these people that Abraham gathered into his group called “Israel,” and through this group, as if through a pipeline, the Light spread to all the nations that lived in Ancient Babylon. However, some people did not awaken and follow Abraham.

Abraham began teaching his group about unity because, according to the plan of creation, the awakened part of the souls must become a conduit through which the upper Light would affect those who did not awaken on their own. Therefore, the nation founded by Abraham serves as a kind of adapter through which the upper Light can approach those broken souls that are unable to awaken.

From this, it is clear that the nation of Israel is obliged to serve as a transmitter and conduct the upper Light to the nations of the world, which is called “to be a Light unto the nations.”

This is the meaning of humanity’s development. We are not required to make outstanding achievements in culture and technology—the main purpose of the nation of Israel is to set an example and give the power to unite to all the peoples of the world, returning all of them to the one common soul of Adam as it was before the breaking.

And although the nation of Israel had achieved its own correction, it could not hold on to it and began to descend after the destruction of the First Temple, and especially of the Second Temple. In this way, it fulfilled part of its role, reached contact with the Creator, and then went into exile, shattered in order to mix with those parts of the souls that are called the nations of the world.

After such mutual inclusion, Israel must rise and build a connection within itself in order to again become a channel—united on the one hand, with the Creator, and on the other hand, with the nations of the world.

This process has many stages. The nations of the world themselves are pressuring Israel, bringing it on their shoulders to Jerusalem and demanding to make corrections. Everyone must do his or her part of the work until we all achieve a complete correction.

From the moment Abraham’s group received the means of connection with the Creator, that is, from the giving of the Torah and onward, this group has had the responsibility to be the link between the upper power and all the creations.

For every moment of procrastination, when this group does not serve as such an adapter, it feels hatred from all peoples.

Question: Huge crowds of people are relocating geographically and socially. The number of international migrants in 2017 reached 258 million: 100 and plus million more than in 1990. Today, when technologically and economically the world has turned into a “global village,” this phenomenon is becoming somewhat of a threat. What will become of this? (Reuters)

Answer: It is hard for us to see a system in an endless “Brownian movement” of international immigrants. We find political, economic, ideological, and conspiratorial explanations for it.

However, the true cause lies in the very basis of human existence. Its consequences sometimes seem to us as chaotic and unpredictable, while actually everything is very rigidly determined and there are no coincidences.

All “coincidences” in the world are controlled by the general law of nature according to which the desires that were broken, previously shattered, must reunite harmoniously. However, they should reunite only in a conscious way, by their own will.

By intermixing humanity, history places us before a new stage of development and demands us to bring ourselves in balance with nature. Are we capable of this? Yes, we intermix, but our interconnection is still not fixed. It is far from being harmonious.

Humanity consists of a multitude of separate, foreign, and opposite parts, which continuously ignore, despise, and hate one another. Sometimes the conflicts lead to bloodshed, and sometimes they hide behind fake smiles and slogans.

But the essence is one: even in externally successful communities, we are strangers to each other internally. Underneath the cultural and civilized clichés, the same egoism boils up, pacified to a certain point, but unconquered nonetheless. And no matter how much we feed it, it always needs more.

As a result, millions of immigrants from other cultures cannot fully assimilate in new places: they do not fit in or integrate, they remain aliens, guest workers, or jobless; they create their own enclaves, islands, focal points, or whole territories of anarchy.

Global intermixing is somewhat similar to a gunpowder barrel: it pushes together various parts, intensifies the pressure, and on its own does not provide a fundamental solution to our common problem.

So, what do we do? The great migration of the twenty-first century should be accompanied by proper education. It is impossible to just enter a new world—we need to understand, accept, and absorb it. We need to learn to live together in it. That is the ascent to the next degree.

With time, the waves of immigrants will grow, and modern society is not ready for such turmoil. People still haven’t learned to interact correctly, to fix their relationships—we still do not understand that open borders on their own do not guarantee our success.

That makes sense, since those who are responsible for the method of good connection are still “sleeping.” The Jewish nation, the patriarchs of humanity, who once proclaimed that unity and love for the neighbor were the greatest value, today prefer not to notice their history and inheritance.

Over the millennia, Jews have learned like no other nation to be included in other societies and weave nests in new places. They just do not experience problems with this, although they have no idea where they got this gift. Consequently, what is rooted in the Jews remains inaccessible to others.

If the world realized the role of Jews in history, people would understand what truly should be demanded of them: unity. Let the Jews learn anew the laws of commutation, integration, and mutual giving, and let them use these laws practically, demonstrating to the whole world how it is done.

In short, the Jews need to unite with one another, not with others. And that will serve as an example to others. An example of a close-knit society—multifaceted and unified—will become the solution to a series of problems of the twenty-first century. Only then will we be able to safely unlock the gates of nations and hearts and begin to live together according to the nature’s law as a single, strong family.

We live in a unique time, a time when we are given the chance to succeed. But there is no guarantee that we will actualize it. We were gifted this time in order to gain strength and understanding of where we are and what we need to do.

Baal HaSulam calls this “the time of open opportunities for liberation.”

We have been given this chance, and our entire work consists of trying to implement it and to bring into life all that is written in the Kabbalistic books. No one knows how this will result in the end. Baal HaSulam wrote about the existence of the danger that this chance will remain unrealized and that the State of Israel will fall apart. After all, there are very powerful forces against us.

The Creator has arranged these enemies for us, enemies who possess patience, power, great quantity and quality. We must understand that we need the power of the Creator to battle with them. If we understand this, then we will win. But if we do not, then the State of Israel has no future.

This is because the only condition for the existence of the State of Israel is our unity. Therefore, neither a military power nor America with Trump will help us—no other power, other than the power of our unity.

The only question lies in whether the nation of Israel is ready to hear this and when it will hear it. So far, it is only growing stronger in its pride and ever more distant from the truth, ever more distant from each other, and is ever more hated by all others.

The Jews are very proud of their material success, which has no connection to their inherent mission. The Israeli, European, and American Jews each have their own particular symptoms of the disease, but they are all still united by one thing: hatred of the nations surrounding them. Let us hope that this path will not bring us to a Holocaust similar to the one that already occurred in the past.

Time is running out, we have wasted much of it, and the nation of Israel still has not changed internally for the better; even to the contrary, it has become worse. We have no one to depend on other than ourselves and the Creator. It is a terrible problem when there is a possibility to achieve correction and complete our mission, but the people do not hear it. Only 70 years have passed since the Holocaust and its lessons have apparently already been forgotten.

We were given the opportunity to unite, to leave the countries where we were hated, and to begin together to discover the inner essence of the nation of Israel known to all, both religious and secular, about which it is written: “Love covers all transgressions.” But no one wants to accept this law; the opposite: separation and interpersonal conflict continue to grow stronger. We see that history teaches us nothing.

Only through dissemination of the wisdom of Kabbalah and attracting the Light that reforms can things be improved. The entire world is suffering and will continue to suffer even more.

We are all sliding down an inclined plane. Let us hope that with our participation in the correction, the pressure of the world on us will be relatively soft, but nonetheless will obligate us to unite.

If we do not awaken our inner Egyptians ourselves, if we do not feel that they are hiding within us, hindering our connection, then maybe the world will help us in this and will demand the methodology of connection.

At one time it was not so apparent, but today everyone understands that the unity created in the last 30 to 40 years is destroying the world. Initially, everyone was thrilled that society became global and integrated, thinking that this will bring us prosperity. But now, it is already clear that it is not so. Today real wars are already beginning: China, the US, etc.

This is an obvious sign that unity is not possible until the egoism is corrected. And until that happens, unity will always be harmful, as it is written: “Unity of sinners will bring harm to them and to the world.” In the end, it will bring tremendous wars.

Today, especially for the upcoming Holocaust Remembrance Day, the world is very much in need of such clarification (and the antidote).

Why was it beneficial for Pharaoh to raise Moses in his house? Just think, how much has the world gained from the Jews? The world owes its entire development to the Jews because the upper Light is conducted through them, through the quality of Bina to Malchut, bringing it everything: the start of all religions, beliefs, and knowledge.

Even the corporeal desires for food, sex, and family develop because the Light shines on them from above in addition to the animal level. And this is all because there is an intention to bestow, represented by Israel. Therefore, more Light keeps coming and develops desires. And the desire itself does not develop, it is dead like dust.

The only reason that a desire develops is for the sake of it reaching the next degree. And if all four stages have already been reached: inanimate, vegetative, animate, and human, then further development can only come from above, through Israel.

This can be seen by the displacement of the Jewish people experienced in Europe as they were exiled from one country to the next. If not for this small group in our world that is somehow connected to the upper Light, the world would not have developed. Why would it? All the development is done for the sake of achieving bestowal, adhesion, and the end of correction.

And if there is no such group and no connection between the upper Light and Malchut, then Malchut does not develop. Therefore, the world blames the Jews for all its problems. It is the Jews that caused the world’s development that has now come to the end. The world is up against a wall, the global crises is unfolding, and the Jews are obviously going to be blamed for it.

The Jews are astounded by these accusations because they gave the world so much good, so many new inventions. But this is a misunderstanding of our role, because we are meant for something completely different.

It is similar to the story of the exile in Egypt. At first, the Jews brought a lot of benefit to Egypt, and then life went bad. These parts of Bina are supposed to start rising from Malchut and to elevate it to the next level of development. It is like a woman who is ready to give birth, but is unable to. Can you imagine what would happen to this child?

All creations must attain unity—this is the final state of evolution of the entire creation. Evolution is constantly progressing, taking us through the stages of revelation of evil.

Eventually, everyone must comprehend the advantage of Light over darkness, and after passing through all the forms of separation, desire to rise above their egoistic nature. Revelation of evil leads us to unity.

There were always some people who understood the virtue of unity, being altruistic by nature. However, in our day and age, nature is giving us practical evidence by becoming integral and tying up the whole world into a single network. Egoism is becoming global and it is connecting us all to each other. Whether we like it or not, we have to unite in order to disallow the force of separation to reign endlessly.

By studying Kabbalah, we learn that the obligation to unite comes from nature itself, from the sin of the Tree of Knowledge. The entire creation was made as one soul that was later purposely broken into many separate parts.

We don’t have a choice. We must rebuild and unite the whole creation. This is the state that both the Creator and people desire. Those who understand it are called Yashar Kel—straight to the Creator—because the upper force, the Creator, is the self-contained nature that is united, integral, and global. In order for us to achieve adhesion with the Creator, similarity of form, we have to become like Him, rise above our divisive egoism, and begin to unite.

We are not socialists or communists, nor humanitarians or biologists observing examples of unity in living organisms. Proof of the necessity to unite is presented to us by the science of Kabbalah, and we are constantly revealing the need to achieve it in our consciousness and feelings.

By nature, we are the biggest egoists because those who come to Kabbalah have the biggest desire. But along with it, we understand that we have to become similar to the upper force in order to achieve the meaning of life. That is why Abraham, from all of humanity, chose a group that became the people of Israel, whose foundation is love of others as oneself, the great law of humanity, nature, and the Torah. We have to consider ourselves a group of pioneers from all around humanity, who are trying to realize this great law of nature—the love of others—and implement it so that we can pass it on to everyone.

The responsibility of the people of Israel is to be the first to reach unity because they are called upon to realize the law of love of others and serve as an example to the rest of humanity, that is, to be “the Light unto the nations.” Philosophers and the founders of the State of Israel also spoke of unity. However, they did not take it from the science of Kabbalah, the structure of nature, but from their internal, instinctive understanding.

Kabbalah says that unity is the law of nature and that first of all it applies to the people of Israel. Baal HaSulam writes that we have received the right to return to the land of Israel, breaking from the rule of the nations of the world, only to fulfill our purpose: to realize unity and show this method to the nations of the world and become the Light unto the nations.

In anticipation of Israel’s 70th anniversary, let us hope that the people of Israel, especially those who live in the land of Israel, will understand the purpose of their existence. For if we do not realize the law of love of others as yourself so that we can serve as an example to the world, then we have no right to exist.

This is a very important point. It is the only reason for a person to live in the land of Israel. Otherwise he has no right to be called “Israel” and does not belong to the nation of Israel.

The State of Israel will have the right to exist only if we work on realizing our common responsibility to become one person with one heart, “all Israel are friends,” to the point of fulfilling the law of love of others as the basis of all existence.

In order for the people of Israel to leave Egypt, Pharaoh’s consent is necessary. He must know and understand the reason for its necessity. Pharaoh then opens the door for them and shuts it behind them once they exit.

What this means is that without spreading the wisdom of Kabbalah among the nations of the world, the people of Israel will not be able to correct even themselves. Not only will we not be able to implement a correction in the nations of the world, but we also will not receive the methodology from above in the correct, complete form unless we first turn to all the nations, absorb their desires, and raise them to the Creator.

We need to act in the environment of the nations of the world and this will help us unite more, become included in the Creator, and pass the Light. This is a closed system. Of course, this happens in stages, but I think that we have already reached a stage when the nations of the world should adopt this method, which has opened up in its full power.

As the waves of anti-Semitism grow, it is clear that the nations of the world need a method of correction. Since the Creator arouses these waves, it means that in this way through the nations of the world, He turns to the people of Israel and wants to wake us up to act. If we do not react to His calls the way we did not react eighty years ago in Nazi Germany, then a catastrophe will occur. All because we do not want to notice the Creator’s appeal to us!

The law of development leads us to an ever greater mutual connection which requires us to have good relationships with each other. But the more communication systems we build, the higher the opposite side rises: diplomatic games, war, and the breaking of relationships.

On one hand, according to the development of nature, we will always strive to unite because this is demanded by advanced technologies and modern life. We switched from connection in small groups that existed thousands of years ago among cave people to complete disunity, and now we must unite again at a new level.

Also, humanity is striving toward connection, trying to create it. An example of this is the European Union, and various international organizations and unions. But it does not work out; they are all doomed to collapse and enmity, even greater than before unification started. After all, they cannot realize the law “love your neighbor as yourself.”

In order to realize their dream and become a truly united Europe, there is not even at least a small rapprochement between the nations, a mutual spirit and attraction. In a natural way, there is hatred, rejection, and separation between all nations. Therefore, we need to create a mutual attraction, but this cannot be done. After all, the method of correction can come only from Israel.

If Israel does not provide a method of correction, then tremendous anti-Semitism will break out in Europe again. All the “united Europe,” all of its three dozens of states, will be like Nazi Germany eighty years ago. The same future also awaits North and South America.

Everyone is ready for this. The time has come when Israel should show the method of connection. If we do not do this, the nations of the world will instinctively blame us again and again.

Anti-Semitism was born at Mount Sinai. Moses descended with the method of correction of egoism, and in parallel, at the same time, hatred toward Jews descended to the nations of the world. It is necessary to use the Torah in order to correct the hatred they receive from above, from the Creator.

The people of Israel are in the middle between the Torah and the nations of the world and must set one against the other. If we do not fulfill this mission, then we are bound to it from above and from below.

Therefore, one should not think that the State of Israel was created as a refuge for Jews. Of course, it serves as a refuge, but the question is: What for? What are we living for? This question about the meaning of our life should awaken us to find the right answer. We live in order to realize the law “love your neighbor as yourself” and to become a light for other nations, that is, to teach the whole world how to do it.

The attitude of the nations of the world is a projection of the internal state of the people of Israel. Even egoism of the nations of the world is caused by the fact that Israel is not corrected. If the people of Israel corrected themselves, then no evil would be left in the world. All the nations would be imbued with the good force of this correction, which would be enough for them.

However, as the people of Israel descend lower and lower, anti-Semitism rises. This is especially evident now, when the time has come to make corrections and we do not make them. Our desire to enjoy is already ripe for correction and has come out of concealment.

Egoism manifests itself as requiring correction, and instead, we drive it inwardly. We thus reveal hatred in the nations of the world. However, we created this hatred within ourselves, and we reveal it from the outside. There is no evil in the world. All evil emerges from us, and then we see it in front of us.

The whole world is a projection of my qualities. So how can I demand someone to become kind? I must correct myself so that kindness is inside me, then there will be nothing bad on the outside, only good.
