What Is a Desire?

laitman_283.02Question: Why do we sometimes refer to desire as matter and another time as a force? Can matter be a force? Or does force clothe into matter?

Answer: Often times we refer to desire as matter because there is nothing other than desire. But the desire is inherent in the force (as much as it desires); that is why we also refer to it as a force.

The Purpose Of Creation And The Development Of Desire

laitman_548.02-jpgQuestion: What are the Creator’s attributes?

Answer: The Creator is the attribute of absolute goodness, absolute love. The thought of creation is the creation of a created being that can become equal to the Creator, to ascend to His level.

If we had the Creator’s attributes from the start, we would have existed in Him, not feeling that we exist. We have to feel our difference from the Creator in order to simultaneously feel both ourselves and our resemblance to the Creator: what are we and what is the Creator, and all this distance between us is like a sense of distance and contradiction, similarity and equality.

This is the reason that the whole system of creation, which operates on us in order to bring us to the level on which we resemble it, was created by the Creator.

The first thing the Creator created was a desire to receive.

The desire descended from the Creator according to five phases of descent until it reached the level of our world in which the desire develops and evolves and everything in the world is built: the universe, the earth, other planets, and us.

Now we begin to ascend back to the Creator. Eventually we will attain the state in which we become similar to Him and ascend to the His level. This happens in accordance to our ascent though the levels of five worlds or 125 levels.

Question: How have we discovered that our mission actually comes down to the ascent?

Answer: Being in the lowest state, we begin to feel a certain inclination to ascend upward. This inclination is called the point of the heart; it pulls us forward.

From that moment, from the moment the created being begins to feel a desire to ascend, he is considered a human being, Adam, according to his goal because he yearns for the upper point called Adam, which means to resemble the Creator (Domeh).

Thus, the thought of the creation includes five worlds, the descent of the created being downward, the creation of the soul, and finally its correction.

Question: It seems that our evolution should come to an end at a certain point?

Answer: Our evolution will come to an end and it will be quite soon. It is a constantly accelerating process. This is the reason that first space was developed and then the earth and then man. We develop in such a turbulent manner that each day is very different from the next.

The Creator created a desire to receive that develops, descends, and becomes increasingly more egoistic.

Then, when the soul is created, the desire acquires an intention. First, at the lowest point, it is an egoistic intention for my own sake.

Then the desire begins to ascend and it changes the intention to an altruistic one. The desire always changes according to the intention since in itself it is indifferent, it is just matter, all of the matter in nature.

How Can We Learn Spiritual Laws?

Laitman_049.02Question: What is the spiritual meaning of the law, “The general and particular are equal”? What can I learn from this general law?

Answer: The general and particular are equal means that if I learn about the particular, from this I can learn about the general. If I attain something in common, then to the same degree I can penetrate into each one of its parts.

There is a single law: mutual cooperation between the Light and the desire when they resemble each other. This can be discovered both in the totality of creation and in each one of its tiniest particles.

For example, in our world, a geologist can separate a small fragment from a mountain and accordingly discover and know much about the entire mountain.

Question: Does this mean that it is nevertheless possible to explain spiritual laws according to examples from our world, in particular from the law the general and particular are equal?

Answer: This is an inductive law that makes it possible to explain our world too. But this does not speak about a purely rational explanation. For a person to acquire spiritual characteristics within him, he must feel them.

After all, he feels our world and examines it from that. Therefore, he must feel the upper world and learn it from his feelings; otherwise, his arguments will be unfounded.

I cannot take a book of Kabbalah, read it, and then convince everyone that this is the truth. And what is next? How does one use what is spoken about in it? Where is all of this found? First of all, it is up to me to attain the spiritual characteristics and powers. They must be inside of me and then I will be able to apply what is written in a book.

How Not To Be A Toy In The Hands Of Fate

Laitman_709Question: Can Kabbalah help me to change and control my fate?

Answer: It can! In every day life, we see that a child lacks the strength to change his fate, but an adult, a strong intelligent person, has greater ability to control his life. It turns out that the more intelligent we become, the more we understand reality, the more we can control our fate.

Therefore, the science of Kabbalah, by expanding the organs of human perception and enabling an individual to see all the forces, all the invisible triggers through which nature influences him, gives an individual the opportunity to make more correct decisions in his life.

Question: I feel that I have no choice, that my fate is already predetermined. Can the science of Kabbalah help me change this destiny?

Answer: Indeed, an average person has almost no choice in his life. But Kabbalah gives him the opportunity to understand life in such a way that he can change his fate, the entire flow of life and its result.

Most importantly, he begins to understand what he is living for! The whole perspective of life open in front of his eyes and he feels himself as an adult, responsible for his destiny, someone who can take pleasure from life and not just be a toy in the hands of blind fate.

The Book Of Zohar—The Most Important Condition

laitman_530The most important condition for studying The Book of Zohar is a well-prepared, organized group. You cannot open The Book of Zohar alone and expect it to begin to influence you and to reveal the upper world to you. You need to be in a certain connection with the friends for that to happen.

When a person studies The Book of Zohar with the friends, he spurs and summons changes to the point that he begins to feel the picture of the upper world in the connection like on a TV screen: sensations, volumes, dependencies. There cannot be any feeling of the upper world unless you are connected to the group.

In our world there is no connection between people. We are absolute egoists who aspire only to extract mutual benefit from each other. And in the upper world this connection is revealed during the study of The Book of Zohar, and a person begins to actually perceive, explore, and affect it.

The Book of Zohar does not require prolonged effort, especially not mental ones. The efforts should be emotional. You should study regularly, but not for a long time. An hour a day is enough.

Does The Light Exist?

laitman_276.01Question: I do not understand: is Light is a desire or an intention? Is my desire to bestow a fulfillment and Light for the one I give to?

Answer: Light is what we perceive. We cannot say anything about something that is beyond us. This means we cannot talk about the Creator before He is clothed in us. What exists and is not clothed in us is called Atzmuto (His Essence), and we do not give Him any particular name.

Is there Light outside of us? This I do not know. I can say that it exists only when it exists inside of me.

We talk only about what we attain because Kabbalah is a science. What we attain in our internal “software” is what actually exists.

Answers To Your Questions, Part 183

Laitman_177.06Question: What is attention according to the wisdom of Kabbalah? Does it mean that a person directs his attention to something and it begins to be felt, and when there is no attention, it is as if it is lost? It seems to be something that moves. Could it be that attention is somehow connected to the Masach (screen)?

Answer: Attention is an activation of energy.

Question: What is it that causes people without a point in the heart to hear you or the wisdom of Kabbalah? After all, the Kabbalah does not speak about the physical world and it does not solve any of our beastly or human problems.

Answer: It is because things are bad for them and Kabbalah elevates a person toward the good.

The Development Of Humankind: From Matter To Forces

laitman_220All the great philosophers, on the one hand, felt that humankind is not in harmony with nature. On the other hand, they thought that the proper organization of society would lead to this harmony and an individual would be able realize his creative potential.

All you need for this is to create the right laws, the right constitution. This caused all the revolutions.

Question: Why did humanity have to go through all this in order to come to despair? ..

Answer: This is how our egoism was formed; it had to go through all these stages, ripen, and discover its insignificance and finiteness. Such is its development. This is dialectic.

When Adam revealed the wisdom of Kabbalah, it became clear to him that the entire process was designed for 6,000 years, no less than that. Now it is the 5,777th year according to the Judaic calendar. There are 223 years left until the end of human development, and then there will be a transition to another area, to the field of forces, from matter to forces.

This is why it does not matter what the philosophers wrote, even though they could see the material future of humanity and all the possibilities for improving life. But this is not according to the laws of nature.

The Spiritual World—An Eternal State

laitman_744Question: In spirituality certain events happen after others. Is there time in spirituality after all?

Answer: No. Events happen in strict succession in spirituality, as chains of cause and effect, which is called time. But this is not time that is measured by a clock. It is time measured by the number of actions. The more actions there are, the more rapidly time passes.

Question: What does Kabbalah say about the possibility of movement in time?

Answer: A person manages advancement in time. Time itself doesn’t exist. According to Einstein’s theory, time depends on the axis in which you exist. According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, we ourselves determine these axes; therefore, time depends on us.

Question: Is it possible to go back to the past?

Answer: No. It is only possible to act so that the past, present, and future will stop existing for you.

Question: And what is left then?

Answer: A wonderful eternal state remains.

Why Do Many People Prefer Religion To Kabbalah?

Laitman_507.03Question: Kabbalah says that the purpose of our life is to discover a higher force. Once I reveal it, I will receive the ability to control my life and get rid of all anxieties. This sounds very appealing, so why do people shun Kabbalah?

Why do they prefer religion, which promises a reward only after death in a future world from which someone is yet to return?

Nevertheless, people are ready to devote their entire lives to religion. Kabbalah offers them to achieve the same thing, but during their lifetime in this world. And yet they reject Kabbalah; I do not understand why?

Answer: In religion, a person deceives himself; in truth, he will receive nothing. There is nothing after death! A person dies; like any animal, the body decomposes and nothing remains.

Why, then, is the religious approach thriving? Because religion not only promise a reward and paradise after death for performing not very complex actions in this world, but even now, in the process of carrying out the ritual actions, a person receives pleasure. Even when he suffers, religion provides an egoistic compensation for that suffering. In religion it is not necessary to annul your egoism like in the wisdom of Kabbalah.

This is why people are prepared to carry out religious orders, to martyr themselves, fast, and subject themselves to all kinds of restrictions. They receive even more pleasure from it. The more suffering religious commandments bring, the more a person values the future world and is even more devoted to religion.

The wisdom of Kabbalah does not call on a person to exhaust himself and perform some sort of actions. He or she only needs to do one thing: to rise above his egoism, his nature. This, however, is a challenge!

It turns out that when a person fulfills religious orders in this world, he earns a reward for himself and his family in this world and in the future world. He feels as if he received an insurance policy and a higher force will take care of him and protect him from all ills, and after death he is guaranteed a life in heaven.

Kabbalah, however, says that none of it exists! It turns out that it is against religion, because it debunks it, and this is why religious people are against Kabbalah and don’t want to hear about it. They see it as a threat because it can lead them away from religion. This is the reason why Kabbalists concealed Kabbalah and did not talk about the truth, according to what is written: “Do not put obstacles before a blind man.”

In Kabbalah, the rule always applies: “One thousand walk into a class, and only one comes out to the Light.” In other words, 999 of those who come will leave, and after leaving, they will grow to hate Kabbalah because it is opposite to our nature.

Many of them become religious. They do not yet have a sufficiently big, burning, and strong point in the heart that is capable of holding them despite all the difficulties, problems, and disappointments that one has to go through during the practical study of Kabbalah.
