The Worlds are Our Certain Relations

938.03The sensation of connections between us is called the world. The worlds themselves do not exist. We should not think that when we climb the spiritual ladder, we enter the first, second, or third floor. These floors do not exist; they are all within us, and we form them from our relations with one another.

Therefore, the word “world” comes from the word “Nehelam”—disappearing or approaching. That is,  we are the ones who create the worlds, our specific relationships.

If they reach the above-egoistic properties at the first level, then we begin to sense ourselves in the world of Asiya. That is already a spiritual world, meaning a state where we can give and receive, but not in the same way as our world.

It seems to us that here we, too, give and receive. In reality, we only receive all the time since we are unable to give. Even if physically we give, we still pursue the goal of receiving. We can never do anything opposite to our original desire.

Therefore, everything that exists at the level of our world and in our state today requires correction. We have to establish connections between us where we always want to give to one another both in intention and in action, to fulfill one another and do something that the other one desires.

Thus we will come to the state where relations between us will begin to form the next world—a higher state where a property of bestowal manifests at the first egoistic level appears in us.

Therefore, there is more selfishness in everyone who rises higher. It is on it that he builds his relationships with others in giving to them and thus feels himself to be in an increasingly higher world.

He feels his existence in some property of bestowal, perhaps only to 5 to 10%, but this is already some revelation of the Creator. In this way, he begins to understand the concept of nature, its creation and origination, its development, and the transformations he and this nature go through. That is the way we go through our development.

The Right Direction

945Question: How can you best focus on your friends, that is, on fulfilling them so as not to stray?

On the one hand friends are a tool. On the other hand, only through love for them can one reach the Creator. How can I guide myself correctly?

Answer: Try to treat your friends with the same love as the Creator treats them, and concern yourself with their unity so they are always occupied only with what the Creator sends to them.

Try to group them and direct them to the Creator.

Connect by Desires for Bestowal and Love

934Question: In our world, I am the desires of my body. If I remove these desires, is that self-annulment? How do I unite with my friends without seeing the desires of their bodies?

Answer: Try to rise above yourself, above your desires, and connect with each other solely with desires for bestowal and love. Ask the Creator to help you with this, and you will feel the response.

Question: So my individuality, my body, is egoism? Does this mean that without egoistic desires I can connect with everyone?

Answer: Absolutely right.

Work with the Sources

526Question: If friends have a desire to work together, how can we help them reveal a deficiency (Hissaron) for spirituality?

Answer: Read about this in the ten before or after our lessons so they can hear and see where you are getting these articles from. Engage them.

Question: Group work is clear, but can individual work with the sources help? Is it necessary, and what is its importance?

Answer: Individual work with the sources is effective when you get explanations of what is written in them.

If you do not know and are just guessing, it will not help you much.

Believe in What Is not yet Felt

530Question: Which questions to ourselves, to the soul, and to the group of ten prepare the Kli (vessel), the Hissaron (deficiency), above reason?

Answer: When you ask the Creator, each other, and the group of ten about things that are essentially within you, but you do not yet feel, you are practicing faith above reason.

This means you do not know, feel, or believe yet, but you want to reach a degree where your faith will give you that sensation. This is called faith above reason.

Our World Is the Lowest Egoistic Level

944You lack nothing but to go out to a field that the Lord has blessed, and collect all those flaccid organs that have drooped from your soul, and join them into a single body (Baal HaSulam, Letter 4).

When our collective soul shattered, it fell to the very bottom—the level of our world. When we are engaged in correction we do not look at male and female bodies, we mean the correction of people.

The inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature does not concern us in our spiritual work. We use it because we need to live, and this justifies its existence. But in the future, we will see on spiritual levels how everything that exists can be used—all atoms of the cosmos and everything created in the universe—because it all belongs to the collective soul.

For now, we must understand that our work in correcting the only desire created by the Creator is at the lowest, most primitive level where we initially found ourselves.

Therefore, we must unite to help each other attain increasingly higher states with greater qualitative and quantitative connection, mainly in the quality of our connections. This is the meaning of being at the lowest egoistic level, the level of the world we perceive.

As soon as we begin forming more complex structures from ourselves, interconnected by good forces, we will perceive, not the egoistic form of this world, but its more altruistic form, called the spiritual world.

Check Your Intentions

237Question: The path of truth differs from the path of lies precisely in intention. It is human nature to deceive oneself. How can one check one’s intentions at every moment?

Answer: You can check your intentions together with your friends and also when you turn to the Creator. You see how you draw closer or move away, how much you understand the Creator and He understands you. It all depends only on your intentions.

Question: When a person feels shame because they cannot create the right intention, what helps to move from this state to a corrected one?

Answer: It is only by uniting with friends. We have nothing else.

The Light of Redemption

276.02Question: If a Kabbalist expects some special event in the future, how does he combine the two approaches: liberation from egoism now and waiting for a special opportunity after some time?

Answer: This comes from the surrounding light (Ohr Makif), from his vision of the future.

Question: Sometimes you tell very impatient students: “Calm down, this is a long path; it isn’t quick.” How should they combine these two approaches?

Answer: One must be very impatient while simultaneously developing patience within oneself.

Question: At every meeting of the tens, should we check the inherent extremes?

Answer: Yes. From here comes revelation and understanding. As it is said: love will cover all transgressions.

Questions about Spiritual Work—159

281.02Question: Do I understand correctly that a person should accept concealment as equivalent to revelation, and this can only be done with the intention for the Creator?

Answer: Not quite. There is still a difference between concealment and revelation. We should strive for revelation while ensuring that concealment does not discourage us.

Question: Can our illnesses and various corporeal problems be considered components of the process of purification from egoistic love?

Answer: No, illnesses and other issues may help in some way but not in a direct sense.

Question: What is the greatest harm I can cause to my ten?

Answer: The greatest harm you can cause to your ten is to try to tear your friends away from unity and movement toward the goal of creation.

Question: If my desires seem unrealistic to me, but they are directed toward goodness and love, should I let them go or continue to strive for them?

Answer: Continue to strive for them, and you will see that at least some of them will turn into real actions.

Love above Rejection

942By being together with my friends, in a group where there is love of friends, I will be able to rise to the house of the Creator. That trail is called “a path of bestowal,” and it is against our nature. In order to be able to reach the house of the Creator, there is no other way but love of friends (Rabash, “Love of Friends – 1”).

Love is the overcoming of mutually repulsive egoistic forces between us when we try to overcome their mutual rejection.

Moreover, those who experience a stronger rejection from others have stronger souls. As it is written: “Everyone whose attainment is greater, his ego is greater.” Therefore, in fact, Kabbalists are huge egoists on the inside!

For those who enter into the attainment of the upper worlds, this work is with such great egoistic desires that I have no words to convey it. There are no such repulsive forces in our world to imagine the forces Kabbalists overcome. How much they hate everyone! How much they repel everyone!

But all this is to the extent they can overcome such forces. They form a huge Aviut, the thickness of desire, and above it a restriction (Tzimtzum), a screen, and everything else.

As it is written in The Book of Zohar, the students of Rabbi Shimon, who wrote this greatest book on Kabbalah, were ready to kill each other! Can you imagine what kind of rejections arise between everyone?!

Love cannot be without hate; in nature everything is balanced. Therefore, if we talk about love, we mean that it arises above the rejection of each other. We feel this rejection and build closeness and unification over it up to adhesion and love, while there is hatred and rejection inside. This dichotomy we achieve holds the whole system of the worlds.

Therefore, do not be naive and try to be like a state of an angel: everything is fine, we love each other, we unite. If I do not feel rejection from another, I cannot feel attraction to him, or spiritual love. If these are spiritual feelings, they always consist of two properties: an egoistic property and an altruistic one above it.

This road is called the path of bestowal, and it goes against our nature. To come to the house of the Creator, that is, to a state where we unite in love, there is no other advice than love for our friends, which we reveal above hatred for them.

Thus we look very realistically at all of nature, at all states, both hatred and love at the same time. Only then does it exist forever and support one another since between them there is a restriction, screen, and reflected light, a desire to work with egoism in the property opposite to it. There is no love and bestowal in us; it happens when we work against our ego. This is called correction.
