How Should Underdeveloped Countries Develop?

laitman_963.4Question: How should the development of underdeveloped countries occur? What is a better approach: micro-finance or macro-finance?

Answer: Only by developing traditional education, which is inherent to all people in the world, so that education and culture correspond to the nation’s nature, will we be effectively developing each nation.

We must understand that, in general, there are 70 nations of the world and they are all unequal. Similar to bodily organs, they need to complement each other. Therefore, if we show an equal and kind attitude to everybody, but according to the nature of each, we will see that they really can make a remarkable contribution to humanity.

Then we will manage to extract the maximum benefit from each nation. This all depends on a benevolent and warm attitude toward everyone, so that he or she can serve humanity precisely in the measure that corresponds to him or her.

We must understand that all of nature is divided between countries and nations such that it leads a person to a state in which each one complements another. As a result, we really can find ourselves in an equal and perfect world where each one fills the other and reaches a world that is all good.

We will then be privileged to see that each nation has a remarkable share in humanity. Also, only because they complement each other are we rewarded with a perfect life in all of human society—with love, perfection, respect, and honor for everyone.

First of all, we need to reveal that every nation has its place, just as the organs of the body have their places. We need it, and until we see that we need it, we will be unable to evaluate and raise it to its own distinctive realization.

About Life With Dolls, Utter Loneliness, And Workaholism

laitman_543.02Remark: In Japan people spend a lot of time at work. And people there are substituting dolls for real people as partners.

Someone, after the death of his wife, began to collect dolls that imitate a person. Another one grew cold to his wife and bought a doll. That is, people are replacing people with dolls. They take care of them, wash them, etc.

And this tendency is observed both in men and in women. Women also buy dolls, live with them, talk to them. Some wear doll masks to be perfect beauties. Absolutely absurd!

My Comment: A man hates his appearance, wants to abandon it and enter the world of feelings, the world of inner, non-external communication—not between bodies, but at a higher level. He feels that he is not in demand and does not know what to demand from others. Therefore, an artificial substitution takes place. What can be said about this?

We are in a transition period, and not only the “unfortunate” Japanese but everybody else too. I do not think that the era of dolls will come and replace husbands, wives, children, or even pets. This all is no more than games. In fact, there can be no substitute.

I hope that the current big crisis, like a tsunami, will sweep away all this dirty industry, including all the excessive things that a man invents and produces. It will all be swept away and only the essentials will remain.

Everything else other than essentials would be spiritual, i.e. whatever we use in order to rise spiritually. This can only come up from the correct communication among people, when a state called “spirit” arises among them. People will then rise together in this spirit: “I cannot live without you and you cannot live without me.”

I do not mean men and women. I mean everything. Such mutual addition gradually elevates us higher and higher. This is the spiritual elevator. This is what we must come to.

This is what the science of Kabbalah teaches. I hope this is the solution to the whole problem. This is how it will be.

As for plastic substitutes, they are temporary toys. It is precisely because we do not find the right combination, the right connection between us.

Question: Researchers claim that people are driven by fear, by their desire to be safe. How can you overcome this fear?

Answer: They will not find this in each other either.

They will find this only if they correctly connect with each other, and in this connection, they will suddenly reveal the upper power that created them, keeps them, and on which they completely depend. Then the fear will disappear.

What fear can there be if you are in contact with the upper force that determines everything: how you were born, how you exist and die, and after that, you will again be in other different states! When you are in contact with the upper force, there is no fear.

Why Isn’t There Progress In Relations Between People?

273.02Question: Why is there progress in everything except human relations, and wars continue to this day?

Answer: There is progress in everything except human relations because we are becoming ever more egoistic and clever. On the other hand, however, we also understand that we cannot live the way we did in the past.

The world is becoming more global. Our dependence on each other dictates new forms of communication to us. We became consumers of a singular culture. Look at what is happening in the world today: some buy, others sell. The entire world became like one big market. No one can be separated from anyone else.

That is why we inevitably need to build positive relations, we cannot escape it. On the contrary, it is better for us to come to a state of full interdependence and then, hopefully, it will obligate our world to do something.

The Selfie Generation

laitman_549.02Remark: Our generation is called the “Selfie Generation.” People fall from bridges, rocks, get into accidents and want to capture these moments.

My Comment: In principle, a lot of people work for death. Death is a dear point in our existence when I leave after me something I wish will remain related to my name to feel some kind of eternal existence.

Question: What does this narcissism lead to?

Answer: This leads to understanding that all this has no importance, no value.

Question: What will happen when we come to this?

Answer: We will begin to understand that there is emptiness in the world! It will be very bad! Then we will begin to seek life’s real fulfillment: eternal, perfect, enduring, existing outside the framework we exist in today before death or after death.

Bill Gates And Mosquitoes

Laitman_701Question: Microsoft founder Bill Gates invested over four million dollars into a project to create genetically modified mosquitoes that will kill their own kind. This is how he intends to kill all mosquitoes that spread malaria. Is this a correct approach? After all, we are violating the balance of nature.

Answer: Of course, there can be irreversible consequences here. This is a very serious problem because we are interfering with the internal system of nature.

Where does this lead? Like everything else—to the recognition of evil: we need to change ourselves and then everything in nature will change.

If we stop stinging each other, the mosquitoes will stop stinging us.

The Influence Of Intention On The Earth’s Ecology

laitman_752.1Question: Does a person’s intention to inflict harm on another affect the inanimate and vegetative levels of nature? Kabbalah says that destructive hurricanes and other natural disasters are a manifestation of our actions toward each other. How we should understand this?

Answer: Since all nature is integral and completely interconnected, our impact on any of its parts affects all other parts. The higher the level of nature that we influence, for example, people, the more it affects all the lower levels: animals, vegetation, and the inanimate.

In contrast, if we exhibit some attitude only toward inanimate nature, it has a lesser impact on vegetative nature, an even lesser one on animate nature, and still less on humans.

It turns out that my bad attitude toward another person permeates the entire pyramid. This is the source of ecological problems and of everything else. We ourselves cause hurricanes, natural disasters, and other problems.

Previously, we were unable to affect anything with our intentions, but everything changed at the beginning of the last century. Look at what we did during the 20th century! Kabbalists say this is because humanity entered a completely new state.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the world population was two billion people, and this is about as much as the planet can sustain. Today, it has grown to eight billion. This suggests that over the past 100 years, we have really driven our system out of balance.

Question: Does this mean that two billion people cannot endure the current level of egoism and therefore there has to be eight billion?

Answer: If we were developing correctly, we would not need eight billion people.

Connection Without Smartphones

laitman_623In the News (BBC): “An app that rewards students for time spent away from their phones is being released in the UK. …

“It has proved popular in Scandinavia, with more than 120,000 users across Norway, Denmark and Sweden. …

“Students will accumulate 10 points for every 20 minutes that they do not use their mobile phone between 07:00 and 23:00 every day of the week.

“Points can be exchanged for goods and services within the app’s marketplace, with brands such as Caffe Nero, Vue cinemas and Amazon signed up.

“To earn two free coffees, students will need 300 points, which equates to 10 hours on the Hold app. For free popcorn at the cinema, they will need to spend two hours to accrue 60 points.

“Students can also exchange their points for books and stationery which are donated to schools via Unicef.”

My Comment: I am not sure that smartphones will be around for too much longer. Why do we need useless conversations that come from our inner worries, from misunderstanding what is happening around us and in the world? And when a person finds an answer to this and starts to hold on to the essence of what is happening, one will not need small talk, uselessly filling the air.

Judging by the intensity with which smartphones are used today, I think this will subside soon. Desire will vanish.

Question: Does that mean that the desire for physical communication will reignite?

Answer: No, it will be on a different level—internal. Other desires will appear, different goals. People will try to find an inner layer of nature in their relationships. This layer will attract them, carry them away, fill them up. They will seek this.

Question: What layer is that?

Answer: Information about our world, but more profound, hidden within nature. This is information about what happens in nature itself manifests in each of us and in the connections between us. This source will be very interesting to us.

All the rest, what we are still looking for today, is only an unconscious connection with the same source. We do not need anything else. This is exactly what we always want to find.

We “Outgrew” Clothes

273.02In the News (Bloomberg): “The Death of Clothing”

“The apparel industry has a big problem. At a time when the economy is growing, unemployment is low, wages are rebounding and consumers are eager to buy, Americans are spending less and less on clothing.

“The woes of retailers are often blamed on Amazon.com Inc. and its vise grip on e-commerce shoppers. Consumers glued to their phones would rather browse online instead of venturing out to their local malls, and that’s crushed sales and hastened the bankruptcies of brick-and-mortar stalwarts from American Apparel to Wet Seal. …

“Apparel has simply lost its appeal. And there doesn’t seem to be a savior in sight. As a result, more and more apparel companies—from big-name department stores to trendy online startups—are folding.”

My Comment: The point here is not at all in fashion and not in the fact that there is a large amount of affordable goods. It is just because our egoism, our desires, outgrew clothes. Today you are not judged by your appearance. People are looking for something internal, something more elevated. The superficial things are gradually receding and these changes come from within.

Over time, only the good, correct attitude of a person to others will be appreciated, when he understands that he exists in a uniform society where all people are united and equal for the attainment of the next degree of our development.

Why Communism Failed

laitman_259.02Baal HaSulam, The Writings of the Last Generation: This continued until the time of Karl Marx, when a very successful plan for the expansion of communism was devised, namely to incorporate the oppressed themselves in the war of communism, so that they would fight alongside them against the capitalistic bourgeois government. Since the oppressed are interested in this war only for their own good, meaning for egoistic reasons, they immediately accepted the plan, and thus communism spread out among all the levels of the backward and the oppressed.

Since the backward are the majority in society, it is no surprise that today communism has succeeded in encircling a third of the world.

Communism was able to capture a third of the world. But who?—the oppressed, the primitive, those with underdeveloped social structures in which everything had extremely deteriorated.

At the time when Marx wrote about communism, Russia was ruled by feudalism. Communist ideas inspired those who had not yet embarked on the path of capitalistic development, and they began to actualize these ideas by force. In other words, communism found the Third World.

However, this coupling of altruistic communists with the egoistic proletariat, though it was successful in overthrowing the bourgeois government that was hated by both, that coupling still fails to ensure a cooperative government with fair division.

This was for a very simple reason: a person does not move a finger unless there is some purpose that necessitates that movement. That purpose serves as the motivating force to make that movement, like fuel that moves a machine.

In Russia, there was no capitalism and no real working class capable of rearing a new generation according to an altruistic program.

Lenin brought communist ideas from Geneva. These ideas may have been good for Europe, even though it too was unprepared and had no intention of implementing them. However, the leaders of the proletariat did not see man’s true nature and the goal toward which man must aim.

They were motivated by the desire of revolutionary transformation and seizing power. Also, even though they were idealists, they failed to understand that the working class, the intelligentsia, and the peasants were only ready to overthrow the ruling system, but nothing else.

Question: But Baal HaSulam writes that, at that time, a third of the world was ignited by the idea.

Answer: And to this day, the remaining hungry nations are ignited by it, thinking primarily only of themselves.

Question: Does that mean that an altruistic idea cannot be internalized in an egoistic world?

Answer: It can be internalized in a world with very great egoism, but one that has already gone through the development of egoism and sees its disadvantages, its destruction.

Time is not all that is necessary for this. A particular preparation is also needed because not just a passage from one form to another must exist, but also an individual’s inner awareness of the need for such a passage to the next level. For the first time in human history egoism is ending its rule.

Arming Teachers

Laitman_182.02Question: The Florida Senate passed a law, backed by the majority vote, allowing teachers to bear arms. Where will this lead? What if a teacher decides to start shooting?

Answer: Nothing can be done about that. There is nothing that can replace a proper upbringing. We could build a thousand more prisons, but it won’t help. The only effective thing is upbringing, and no one is doing that. It is a universal problem.

Question: What has to happen for the necessity for proper upbringing to pierce the heart like a splinter, forcing people to start doing something about it?

Answer: Only the realization that without the proper upbringing, a person only brings evil upon himself and others. It has to be realized to such an extent, taking into account how much suffering, money and everything else it costs us, that we would be ready to get re-educated.

The first requirement for correct education is the study of human nature. We have to familiarize people with it through mass media, in schools, everywhere.

Question: How can we overcome a mountain of misunderstandings?

Answer: This is the wall that stands in humanity’s way. But there is no way around it.

Question: Can the Creator suddenly change a person’s thinking?

Answer: He cannot. He has no right to! The entire creation would be meaningless. There is a method of correction inside you—act on it. If you do not search for it yourself, seriously realize it within yourself, and adjust yourself and society, you will not achieve the next educational level.

A person has to understand that if he does not change, neither he nor the world will have a good future, and life will be full of suffering for his children and everyone else.
