Question: What is the unity of friends that Rabash talks about?

Answer: Unity is when we clarify the teacher’s advice among us and examine it according to the sources in order to grow stronger and then to fulfill them together when we are equally connected. We try to make the connection between us into a mutual force field in which everyone is equally connected and focused in the right direction when everyone helps one another in mutual guarantee in order to reveal the attribute of bestowal among us, the force of bestowal that operates all of reality and is external to us.

We ascend from below wishing to establish this attribute by our desires, our vessels. We want this attribute to be dressed in us and to be revealed in the vessel according to the equivalence of form. All this happens between us. This is how we want to attain all the levels of our general soul, which we now build between us.

Then we will have to attach all of humanity to this unity so that our small circle would grow bigger from internality to externality. We will discover all the levels of the desire in it—0, 1, 2, 3, 4— and all the Lights—Nefesh, Ruach, Haya, Yechida—all the 125 levels that determine the intensity of the connection between us if we attach all the other shattered parts.

It is a very clear picture. Everything is closed in one small circle, in its central point.

Comment: The picture is clear, but I cannot fulfill this connection with the friends.

Answer: Of course you can’t because you have to add the Creator to the connection. He is the one who stands in your way and doesn’t let you connect. You are used to doing everything by yourself in our world. You depend on your mind and your feelings, on your energy and your power, but in spirituality you cannot do anything but discover a deficiency and aim it at the One who performs everything, at the operating force.

Don’t forget that! Have you ever thought of connecting to a group of egoists and attaining everything? This is called “the seat of the scornful,” and this is clearly no way of attaining anything.

You sit and cry that nothing works out, which means that you discover that you cannot do the work and that you need a partner. It is through the group and the teacher that you feel the need for a partner that has to help you. Then your prayer will solve the problem.

All you need to do is to reach the right request. This has to do be a prayer of many in which everyone connects to the same goal and understand that only the Creator can fulfill it; only the Light corrects the vessels, which means that only the Light connects them. If there is the right demand ( more or less), it is fulfilled.

The factor of time operates here as many pennies add up to a big account. In the mean time, we have to go through additional phases of scrutiny and clear up different concepts, and then it will happen.

Question: How do we move from “49 Gates of Impurity” to the 50^th gate?

Answer: First of all, I have to feel my state, to understand that my nature will not allow me to do anything. The ego can easily kill me and control me. There is no mercy from it—this is my most bitter enemy, like Haman and Pharaoh.

We need to decide that our desire to enjoy does not fit our life at all, that it is not acceptable in any thought, aspiration, or action, that we cannot use it in any form and not even in the smallest amount. It is preferable not to do anything! Because any movement that happens is only in the direction of the ego, and this is what I cannot allow. Even more, I need to understand that I cannot hide from it. I yearn to live in the quality of bestowal! I understand that this attraction also derives from the desire to receive, because for the time being I am in Egypt, but I want to rise above it.

I am in darkness, recognizing my complete powerlessness and not seeing who can help me if not the Light that will come from above, which I have no connection and relation to, and I don’t have any possibility to awaken it. If this force will come to my help, this will really be a miracle that I did not hope would happen.

I am willing to continue to stay in Egypt as much as needed. The sensation of the exile in Egypt, of darkness, is preferable to me than to see Egypt in the time of seven years of satiety. I very much appreciate spirituality that I feel now from the opposite side. From within darkness, from inside the opposite form, I can imagine the Light—what is called “sanctity.”

These states are completely opposite each other. Two lines are revealed. We invest tremendous efforts to connect, to bestow, and to be in the “right line.” Opposite to this is revealed that we are not able to do it, and then we fall and do not achieve any results. Anything we succeeded in yesterday crumbles today, and what we do today will disintegrate the next day.

We go out to dissemination, try to succeed in any way possible, prepare conventions, and where have we arrived? There is nothing to show. A person studies for 10 years, but it looks as if he started only yesterday. How could it be? All the results pass in a moment, like water into sand, and nothing is left. It means that we are in slavery and don’t receive anything from our efforts. Even though we are the most successful, we are nearing the Creator, we believe the sages that told us to progress above mind and feeling; that’s all we have and we are willing to work like that.

These two lines need to be revealed clearly and we have to yearn to the right—to connection, to dissemination, to invest all forces in this and not to calculate from our inner state.

It is similar to a mother with small children who is sick, and although she feels bad, she must get up and take of them. She does not care how much she will suffer because the children are most important to her. That’s also how we need to act; the main thing is the work and it is not important what we feel inside.

The main reason for all the complaints is that people cannot agree with the work that happens in darkness. Also when the Creator will be revealed, our work in darkness will continue. It means that I agree with the darkness and relate to it as a great condition to continue my work. Therefore darkness becomes Light for me.

I obtain a screen and want that the force of restriction will control me and will give me the possibility to work above the restriction (Tzimtzum) and the screen, and to raise the Returning Light from a completely dark state of the desire to receive.  From this I build my desire to bestow. I take all the empty vessels from Egypt and leave only the egoistic approach of Pharaoh there.

But the desires to receive remain in darkness and I take care that the darkness of Egypt stays there. From this state, from the darkness in all my desires, only one desire, which is mine, the desire to bestow, must exit and grow. This is called the “exit of the children of Israel from Egypt.”

And the huge desires for pleasure remain in the darkness of Egypt, and I build the new degree above them in faith above reason.

I want that the darkness will stay, and that the desires to receive will never be fulfilled in their regular form. This is how I build a new attitude to the world and to the Creator—above my inner desire. Inside me I am dead, sick, it does not matter how I feel; above this I build the form of bestowal. Like a mother that takes care of her baby and does everything he needs even though she doesn’t feel well.

We need to understand what actually our exit from Egypt is —ascent from a state called “Egypt.”

This is our new approach to the desire to receive and the possibility to bestow.

It is very difficult for a person, that is, the desire to receive, to come to terms with the falls due to the fact that after an ascent, the success, feeling of power, nearness, and elation, he suddenly loses all knowledge and feeling, and is left lacking everything.

The desire for pleasure that expects fulfillment feels this as an unfair loss, like death, and doesn’t understand how this happened. The person begins to be angry and rebel.

This confuses him greatly; he becomes shaky and doesn’t understand what to do. Yet, it is precisely these situations that bring us to a reassessment in comparison to what was before. Previously, we measured our situations according to what we received through our desire for pleasure.

Then we began to evaluate situations according to the approach toward a goal, an idea, a spiritual message, how much we understood and felt the books of the Kabbalists were connected with a higher level—in other words, with the author of the books or the teacher.

The values gradually begin to be changed. Thanks to the ascents and descents that we go through our values are changed regarding reception and bestowal, of ourselves, and going outside of the ego. The person doesn’t know how this happens. The Light is what changes him, whereas the person only feels that the values of yesterday already seem different today because his priorities have changed.

This process of passing through the “49 Gates of Impurity” is great preparatory work that includes the Egyptian exile within it. We don’t just need to wait for it to be over quickly. Even though the person is in darkness, he constantly understands more and feels more who is managing him.

He clearly discerns more that the desire for pleasure is what dominates him, beating him all the time and is ready to do whatever it wants with him. On the other hand, he understands more and more that salvation can come only from above, and the participation of the person, himself, is only in how much he can influence this process, hasten the situations, accept them in a different way.

That life and those situations with which he agreed before this and thought were good, he now sees as the dominance of his ego. Ultimately, he decides that his situation is the Egyptian exile with all of its 49 Gates of Impurity.

Nothing more is required of us. We only need to examine the 49 Gates of Impurity quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitative approach sounds like this: If I even fall for a second, I consider this to be slavery and the loss of everything that was dear to me.

If I am under the control of the ego even for a moment, I am under foreign control. I am no longer the master of my ego as things were during the years of abundance. Now, I begin to feel that this is what dominates me, yet I cannot do anything.

The qualitative approach means that I cannot agree with the smallest domination by the ego. Before this, I thought that being dominated by my desire to receive was not so bad, but now even one percent of that dominance that existed before, even one percent of the pressure from Pharaoh, is accepted as something terrible.

That is how I reach the 50^th gate. On the border between the 49 Gates of Impurity and the 50^th gate, my redemption takes place.

Question: What is this connection between us? After all, we are not friends in the physical sense. How do we connect and unite in the right way?

Answer: Friendship, on the physical level, is characterized by people that are pleased to communicate with each other; they have similar habits, common bonds, and so forth. This is what connects and unites them.

We are friends of a different type; we are friends for a purpose. Were it not for this purpose, we would never sit together. So, we need to understand clearly that only the importance of the goal holds us together, connecting and fastening us together. This is why the group exists.

The question is how does one not forget that the group doesn’t exist on its own, that by ourselves we are not connected? We gathered here not because it is good for us to be together, but so that we would connect above all the problems that constantly pop up between us, and that is how we ascend spiritually. The group must know under what conditions we have gathered, what we are working for, and what our work is.

Every day, we must discover new problems between us, and every day we try to solve them by rising above them. This means that we are not solving problems on the physical level as is customary in this world, but by specifically rising above them and turning to the Creator with a request for correction.

We are not prepared to get along alone; this is a spiritual correction. By not doing anything but only clarifying our problems in workshops, we ask the Creator to correct and fulfill us. He is the only one who corrects the connections between us, fills them through His revelation, and is, Himself, discovered in these connections.

Question: I have made great efforts to overcome the problems of connection in the group and thought I had succeeded. But then I discovered that all the problems had only become more subtle and more difficult to detect. Aren’t I supposed to get use to this type of work with time?

Answer: A person is new at any given moment and so every moment he discovers that his foundations (our forefathers) engaged in idol worship. This is where he begins the new level. He discovers that he is in his egoism, in the desire to receive. He hates everyone and cannot bring himself to true bestowal. He is already able to somehow bestow in order to receive but not to bestow in order to bestow.

It is from this uncorrected state that he begins to work. He has to organize the right support in order to get closer to the true form of bestowal called faith, above his personal accounts. He has to find out whether this is possible.

We can perform different actions in the group and awaken the Surrounding Light that performs the action. There are actions that don’t draw the Surrounding Light unto us, on the contrary, they have no illumination from above. Therefore, performing them in a big group will not lead to any results.

There are actions we perform in the group and thus draw the Surrounding Light, which is the Light that has to be revealed in the corrected vessel. The vessel is not corrected yet, but it is focused on correction, which means it tries, makes an effort, sweats, and is in the process, exerting itself. In response to such efforts, the Light operates, and this is what everything is based on.

A habit is a special angel, a special force that was deliberately introduced in our system. Because, in fact, a habit doesn’t really exist. It is like an electric system that receives no energy, and thus immediately stops working. You cannot be upset that electricity ran through it before and now it doesn’t. We have to start anew each time, and therefore, there can be no habit, since every state has a force, its own angel.

We have overcome this once and it is recorded in us. This system already exists and operates, but an even more corrupt system is revealed in it and we have to take care of it. In fact, it is the same system but through higher resolution that allows us to see things more deeply.

I don’t fight myself anymore in order to get up in the morning and to go to the lesson. I have been doing that for years. But then new obstacles appear and there is a greater hardening of the heart, and suddenly I begin to fall asleep during the lesson, which I didn’t do before.

We are constantly ascending the levels of complexity. But there are no habits; every moment my relation with the Creator is totally new, the conditions change. We have to discover that “There is none else besides Him” in every condition and go on accordingly, which means that we have to reach adhesion: very short and accurate actions.

In the corporeal world these actions include the whole world, which we have to connect to us, but it is actually only several actions. The more we advance, the clearer these actions become. Instead of “Holy and Blessed” (Kadosh Baruch Hu), the Creator, the holy names of ten (ADNI, HaVaYaH Elokim, etc.) there is the force of bestowal, the force of faith, very simple concepts: GAR of Bina, ZAT of Bina. We have to try to bring everything to the most concise definitions.

In the past, all of humanity lived together in ancient Babylon,  just in this world. But then a small group came out of Babylon and began to advance toward the Creator before everyone else. This group is called “Israel” because it yearns for the Creator, Yashar-El (straight to the Creator).

They attained the spiritual level and then fell from it. They went down to Egypt and came out of there, built the first and second Temples, which were destroyed, and eventually returned to this world and mixed with all of humanity. Now, we all must exit this world together.

First, the group of Israel exits the way it is, having undergone the shattering and the mutual incorporation in the entire world. Now, it is also called Israel, Yashar-El, and those who feel a yearning for the Creator are attracted to it.

Just like Abraham led everyone who followed him out of Babylon, now, too, anyone who wants to advance toward correction exits this world. After all, we have reached complete mutual incorporation.

We are in the same state that Israel once was, and we need to tie ourselves to the entire world, on the one hand, which we do through dissemination, and, on the other hand, connect to the Creator. This is our role.

We work with the entire world on the corporal level by disseminating the wisdom of connection in which we have a lot of experience, but working with the Creator is more problematic since we don’t understand, don’t feel, and don’t know how to do it. We are in a very delicate position when it comes to that, and so Kabbalists tell us how to establish our connection with the Creator. This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah is all about.

Our role is to connect the Creator to Malchut, to the desire to receive, as its carriers. We each carry parts of Malchut, but one part cannot connect with the Light, with the Creator. There must be ten Sefirot in Malchut, and it should be dressed in ZA, which is the Creator. It must attain at least the level of its Chazeh (chest).

Malchut begins from one point adhered to the Chazeh of ZA, but we must attain the point of connection, the unity, in order to be one point. If we all connect as one man in one heart, this point, in which we all shrink and connect, appears as we annul ourselves and leave only one point in order to connect to the Creator,

Thus, Malchut becomes a point, and this point begins to connect with ZA. Otherwise, there is no connection between Malchut and ZA, and without us it simply doesn’t exist and is in a shattered state, which means in our form as its fragments.

Question: Does it turn out that nothing exists other than spiritual reality?

Answer: Certainly. This is the same reality in which we are now found, and we begin to see how the higher power works within it. There are only two forces: the force of desire and the higher force that clothes it.

These forces are beginning to be more and more noticeable as we see that they are the only forces working within reality, that they have no substance, it is also energy. The physicists claim that the world is a field of forces and matter doesn’t exist.

Studies show that there is energy and power within matter. So matter has no significance, and yet it exists. Only after all the inhabitants of this world are connected to the network and reveal that they are acting in a field of reception and the force of bestowal, will all matter completely fade and disappear from this world, which is called “imaginary.” However, this will only happen in the future, with the general completion of correction.

Question: From where does a person get the power to connect everything together and see the true reality?

You cannot do anything alone. You cannot change your perception, get used to the right picture nor study it. This is possible only if you are found in the appropriate environment that is working towards this, and in which each individual, along with everyone else, together understand that they must build the appropriate network of connection for discovering the upper Light.

We must at all times, work among us to transform into a single Kli, into a single system and constantly develop it, adding to it through more and more interactions. The Light will accordingly be revealed within the Kli  through ascents and descents, which will also become increasingly synchronized together. We begin to feel interconnected and have more influence on each other.

Each one will see how much his character, his soul, his inner potential, becomes accommodated to everyone else, while some of them rise and some of them descend. Even though all of us advance together and go through ascents and descents, each one acts according to his character, like various components acting within a single electrical system. One is a resistor, another is a capacitor, and the third is a coil.

Each one goes through an ascent, but the ascent in a capacitor and a coil are completely different, for in a capacitor this is expressed in changes in potential and in a coil this is expressed in an electrical field. The ascent is expressed in a different form according to the root of the soul, and in principle, all are passing through the same situation.

And since there are so many differences between us, it could be that there is an incessant ascent without descents. For each may be in an ascent or descent in regard to everyone else, but it is considered to be an ascent in regard to himself. An electrical charge constantly moves from place to place, but every change is for the improvement of the ascent, constantly raising the voltage within the system and raising it gradually.

At the moment, there is no connection between us, and because of this lack of connection, each one of us ascends and descends. But if we connect, then we no longer have such descents.  As it is written, …and the children of Israel sighed from the labor, …. (Exodus 2:23). This wasn’t darkness due to a lack of connection, but due to a lack of bestowal. But this was actually an ascent, for by each one connecting with the others, each one took the others’ work upon himself. A minus in one place is compensated by a plus in another place, and vice versa. So everyone is ascending. Therefore, if we are connected, there are no more descents, only ascents!

Since you are connected with the other components within a system, it is as if you are transforming alternating current into direct current. The only thing we lack is connection. We aren’t working on this enough.

Malchut included in Bina—meaning the desire to receive that is included within the desire to bestow—molds the desire to bestow in regard to itself. As a result of this integration, the system of worlds is created: Atzilut, Beria, Yetzira, and Assiya (ABYA), the higher system of management that conveys the Light of Infinity to us from above.

As a result of the integration between Bina and Malchut, the desire to receive becomes complex. From now on, there is a heart in it, which is the Malchut, the desire to receive, and the “point in the heart,” which is the point of Bina. This is the soul, the creature.

The entire creation is divided into two parts: From the outside, there is the system that is surrounded by the Light of Infinity, and from within, there is the soul. Until the system reaches the soul, it passes through 125 levels of reduction of the Lights, levels of Ha’alama (Concealment), for which reason they are called Olamot (Worlds).

The Light that passes through Yashar (directness) is called Ohr Pnimi (Inner Light), and the Light that shines from the outside is called Ohr Makif (Surrounding Light). The Light of Yashar awakens us and gives us the sensation of the present, and the Ohr Makif that comes by way of Igulim (Circles) gives us the sense of the future. If the future doesn’t illuminate me, then I have nothing to live for; I feel no purpose ahead, and this is a problem. However, if I don’t even have Light in the present, then I die. It is desirable for both the present and the future to illuminate me. However, if I am not connected to a society, then the future Light cannot illuminate me. This is because the future illuminates more and more strongly the more and more that I connect with the group, and if I am not connected with them, then I have no future.

So someone who doesn’t work on strengthening a connection with the group loses power and eventually leaves, and if a person doesn’t work with the Light of the present, then he doesn’t even revive himself in the present state. We must try very hard to provide ourselves with both a future and a present.

The “straight line” and the “circles” are two forms of higher management. If a person works on his connection with the group, then he discovers these two forms there. Specifically for that purpose, the forms of management through the straight line and the circles are created to bring a person to a connection that will fill his entire vessel. But how does he get this great vessel if he is only an inner point in the center of all of the circle? Just as yeasted dough expands, so he also needs to be expanded by the Upper Light and fill the entire vessel.

The desire to receive is a small point created “out of nothing.” However, if we transform it to become for the sake of bestowal, it is expanded to the size of the entire creation.
