“According To the Tree of Life”

943Question: What is the tree of life?

Answer: The tree of life is our path, which we walk not opposite to the Torah but clearly according to the Torah. Everyone connects with others by ties of kindness, love, and mutual assistance, closer and closer, from person to person. Then it is believed that people are going according to the tree of life.

Surrender to Holiness

631.1Question: In Baal HaSulam’s “You Who Love the Lord, Hate Evil,” it is written that through the hatred for the will to receive one corrects it and surrenders under the Kedusha [holiness]. What does it mean?

Answer: It means that the will to receive will no longer want to manifest itself because it understands that in this way a person leads everyone to destruction.

Conversely, if a person hates the will to receive, then by this he surrenders to holiness.

Open Your Heart to Everyone

944Question: We all are trying to unite above our differences. Our goal for the connections between us is to reveal the force of the Creator, love, and eternity. How can we convey all this to the whole world, to the people of Israel?

Answer: You must try to connect through your hearts, and then what is in your heart will flow into the others’ hearts. You will feel it. Just work on it as a group.

Question: What determines the volume of our internal space where everyone can be placed for internal unification?

Answer: It is the size of the heart. And to work effectively with this thought, you need to open your heart to everyone.

Let us all embrace together and ask the Creator to bring us closer in a tighter embrace. That is how we arrive at a quick final correction. Baal HaSulam writes that we are already in the last generation, the generation of Moshiach (Messiah). What should we do? Just wish in your heart for this to come true for everyone.

Hear Your “Body”

509The Zohar says that the Creator hates bodies. It refers specifically to the bodies of the Creator’s workers because they want to be eternal recipients, since they also desire the wealth of the future world (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 108 “If You Leave Me for a Day, I will Leave You for Two Days”).

Question: If the Creator hates the bodies, then what was the need to create them?

Answer: The material body is the desire to receive. If the Creator had not created the body, we would not have anything to work on and be rewarded.

We are talking about desires for one’s own sake that arise in a person who seeks spiritual elevation. But nothing can be revealed in the desire to receive, only in the desire to give, which is called the spiritual body or soul.

Question: If the Creator gives us a reward in advance, will we pay for it later much more?

Answer: No, do not take that into account. You must do what is required of you.

Question: It seems like this article describes a conversation with the body. Is it important to keep track of what my body, i.e., my desire is telling me at every moment?

Answer: Of course, it is important. If you do not hear your body and do not listen to it, but just hear it, you will not be able to advance.

Correct hearing means holding on to the group, to the Creator, and listening to what your body wants to tell you. Then you will gain the strength to move forward independently of it.

Catch Up with the Creator

186Question: It is said that if the Torah distances one from love for the Creator, it is called the elixir of death. The Creator often alienates us from Himself because of our egoism. In what case does the Torah bring us closer to the Creator, and in what does it become the elixir of death?

Answer: The Psalms give an example of a deer that is running away from a person constantly looks back to see whether he manages to increase the distance or decrease. It is like this with the Creator.

Even when the Creator moves away and demonstrates it to us, He does this only to make us run after Him and try to reach Him. Therefore, we must always pursue the thought that the Creator wants us to catch up with Him.

Tune Your Heart to the Wave of the Creator

525Question: In article 241 of Shamati, Baal HaSulam writes: “Call upon Him when He is near.” By what signs can we understand that the Creator is close to us?

Answer: When we think about the Creator, we want to get closer to Him. When we have some kind of relationship with Him, it means that we are close to Him. At this time, you must definitely turn to Him and raise your requests.

Question: The article also says that if a person does not take advantage of the opportunity, he remains as before. What does it mean to “not take advantage of an opportunity”?

Answer: If you are given the opportunity to ask the Creator to draw closer to Him and did not do this, it means you did not use it.

Therefore, you must constantly tune your heart to turn to the Creator, especially together with your friends, and then you will definitely have the opportunity to contact Him, and an answer to your request will come from Him.

You must always try to feel as if you are tuning into this wave with your heart, and your request will not be sent into the void.

Work off the Advance

600.04Question: On one hand, it is said that sometimes a person is rewarded with finding mercy through prayer, through Sgula (a miraculous remedy), because it can replace the effort.

On the other hand, it is said that although a person is worthy of finding mercy through prayer, nevertheless, then he must pay a measure of effort. What does it mean?

Answer: It means that the person receives an advance. He has not yet earned spirituality, but he has already received some portion, and therefore, he must continue to make efforts to earn the advance.

Prayer from a Pure Heart

534We also see in corporeality that there are some who provide by labor, and some who provide for themselves through prayer. And by asking for provision, one is allowed to provide for himself (Baal HaSulam. Shamati 161. Concerning the Giving of the Torah – 2)

Question: Is it possible in the corporeal world to pray for provision, but physically do nothing?

Answer: If you can ask correctly, then do it and you will see. Perhaps that will be enough for you.

In a request, in prayer, in an appeal to the Creator, there is such an opportunity when you do not need anything else but to ask. The problem is how to reach such a prayer so that the Creator gives you what is necessary for the correction of the soul, and with one prayer you would reach everything in the world.

Question: What kind of prayer is this that we can achieve everything with?

Answer: A prayer coming from the pure heart of a person.
