How Do We Create the Level of Nefesh in the Ten?

530Question: You said we should try to hold onto the light of Nefesh and not fall from it. How can we create this light between us in the ten in order to hold it and then move on to the next level?

Answer: We do not yet know how to do this, but we will strive upward, toward the feeling of the governance of the Creator over us (this is called Nefesh). When each one feels within themselves this level of connection with the Creator on the level of Nefesh, then we will be able to start rising to the level of Ruach, then Neshama, and afterward, perhaps to Haya and Yechida.

It depends on how much a person wants to be close with their friends, and through them, close to the Creator who fills them.

Individual Gmar Tikkun

243.04Question: It is said that once the Creator makes a covenant of peace with a person, there are no more wars for him. Is this the entry point into spirituality or is it already the end of correction?

Answer: This is an individual end of correction (Gmar Tikkun). Each time we complete the correction on the level of Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, or Yechida, it is as if we pause.

We squeeze everything out of ourselves at each state, at each level, and in this way, we can move forward.

But this pause on the previous level is necessary because within each level, and within all levels, there are also Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, Yechida of Nefesh, and then NRNHY of Ruach, NRNHY of Neshama, and so on. That is how it works.

Question: Does an individual Gmar Tikkun mean that it begins from the very lowest level of Nefesh?

Answer: Of course, from Nefesh de-Nefesh.

Questions about Spiritual Work—239

294.2Question: Can we say that true faith is not my faith in the Creator but my existence within His faith in me?

Answer: Faith is a special force we receive from above. It fills our desires, which are the essence of each of us, and to this extent we can direct ourselves toward the Creator.

Question: In the war against the evil inclination, there is a special action “return” when all the power, might, and influence of egoism can be destroyed. What is this action?

Answer: In general, the ego does not get destroyed. It is simply blocked by the force of the Creator, which affects us and allows us to rise to some extent.

Imagine the Creator or See Him?

275Question: Which is more important: to imagine the Creator or to see Him? Is it that He would fill our imaginations or our eyes?

Answer: I think it is the same thing. There is a difference in the text as the author expresses it. But in general, imagining or seeing in Kabbalah is, one might say, the same thing.

Question: It turns out that we do not reveal the Creator, but we reveal Him in our actions. Should we reveal Him?

Answer: Yes, just present Him with the common Kli, which is created by the connection between you, and everything will be fine.

Match the Creator

237During the work, a person should say, “If I am not for me, who is for me?” At that time in the work, they think that they themselves are doing the ascents and descents, that they are men of war, called Tzava, “mighty men.” Afterward, when they are redeemed, they attain that the Lord is of hosts [Tzevaot], meaning that the Creator made all the ups and downs they had (RABASH, Article No. 6, “What Is Above Reason in the Work?“).

Question: Why is the Creator called a warrior? After all, He does everything; He gives both descents and ascents.

Answer: In order to participate in the movement of a person and of humanity, we must in some way correspond to the Creator.

Therefore, it is said here that we need to take an active part in this, examining and correct ourselves through prayer, in everything in which we discover our insufficient participation.

Unite Against the Disturbances

938.04Question: Should I recognize the evil inclination myself and begin a war with it, or should I hold the line and simply resist the disturbances coming at me?

Answer: No, a war has a goal, and you must be directed toward it. Without this, there will be no progress. We need to unite among us and see how we ourselves combine our thoughts, actions, and goals into one common force.

It is precisely this common force that overcomes our harmful desires and impulses toward the Creator.

That is why we must be clearly directed toward connection between us and against the Creator. Against the Creator means against the various disturbances that He sends us.

Face to Face with the Enemy

238.01We must understand that our egoism is created by the Creator and governed by Him. And on our part, we must wage war against our evil inclination, try to bring it out from under the power of the Creator, and not cease this war until we feel the possibility of victory.

The evil inclination acts directly against the Creator, trying to conceal Him from us. A person must imagine that he is constantly face to face with the enemy—his own evil inclination.

And even if he falls into egoism, he must try to rise out of it and then prevail over it. That is, in all the most difficult states that he goes through, he strives to recognize the true enemy.

All our advancement lies in the fact that we acquire more and more strength to rule over our evil inclination. Therefore, we must do everything possible for this victory, falling asleep and waking up with this thought.

We must try to identify this evil inclination, the force that prevents us from approaching and uniting with the Creator, and ask the Creator to help us overcome this enemy. This is the entire war.

Both in Reception and in Bestowal

235Question: It is a very subtle nuance when Malchut becomes Keter. Is this the transition we want to feel?

Answer: Everything depends only on the intention. Either you desire to bestow through your action or to receive.

In reality, you do not have the ability to bestow. You can do it only if you have such an intention that can operate both in reception and in bestowal.
