Talks about the Steps of the Ladder, Part 29

Talks about the Steps of the Ladder, Part 29

When Does a Person Agree to Let Society Influence Them?

We agree to let the group influence us out of necessity when we lose hope in our own strength. Baal HaSulam writes in his “Letter No. 57” that “there is no happier situation in man’s world than when he finds himself despaired with his own strength, i.e., he has already labored and done all that he could possibly imagine he could do, but found no remedy.” Only then are we eligible for true prayer, from the depths of our heart.

Initially, we resist external influence, as our nature does not let us consent to others having control over us. We turn to the group out of necessity, like a seriously ill person who goes to the hospital, lies down, and lets the doctors treat them, do whatever is necessary, sedate them, open their body, and do as they will.

Only the recognition of our inability brings agreement. Before that we will resist because our “self” was created as independent, feeling itself unique in the world. And if we are indeed the only ones in our world, with nothing else, how could we possibly yield to others?

Follow the Actions of the Creator

219.01Question: What is the full measure of the work in overcoming obstacles so that the return to the Creator is out of love?

Answer: To achieve this, I justify everything the Creator does to me in all states. Each time I agree more and more with His actions and add them to the overall account.

Question: It turns out that returning to a corrected state must be only out of love, which means instantly. How can one learn to instantly correct the desire to bestow?

Answer: This is done by the Creator. A person can only follow it.

How Can We Correct the Flaws in the World?

938.03Question: The flaws we see in reality are created by the Creator so that we can correct them through unity in the ten and with the world group. How can this be done?

Answer: We try to unite with each other despite being distant and even opposite to one another because the most important thing is to maintain connection with one another.

In this way, we measure the height of our ascent according to our connection above the problems given to us by the Creator.

Question: How can I see the world group through the ten and participate in it from the ten?

Answer: This is a challenge. For this, we need to advance further.

Read Your Heart

938.07What can a person enjoy during the lesson? A person can enjoy the fact that today he is much closer to his friends than he was yesterday.

To achieve a deeper connection with the Creator and to bestow to Him, you need to open up more to one another.

Then a greater Kli (vessel) will form, and you will feel each other more deeply.

In the group of ten, there is no need to reveal anything except the heart—what you desire in your life!

Question: But in our work, we rarely talk about this. We write prayers and read articles. How do we correctly speak about what we desire in our lives?

Answer: Open your heart and read what is written in it.

The Creator Is the Center of the Ten

544Question: What is the common attainment of the Creator’s thoughts in the ten?

Answer: To attain the Creator means to attain the upper force of nature. The common attainment of the Creator’s thoughts in the ten is the common alignment of all participants’ thoughts toward one another and from their center toward the Creator.

Question: We have often read that everyone can point to the Creator in the center of the ten. How can this be done from our collective feelings when we gather together?

Answer: It is good that you have such a question. Try it. Perhaps not immediately, but gradually, you will be able to direct your heart or your pointing finger toward the Creator. This is the center of your group—nothing more, nothing less.

Accept Friends as Our Inner Qualities

938.03Question: When we conduct a workshop in our ten, because we know each other, we feel each other’s qualities and what they can add to the circle. It feels like very internal and intimate work. How can we work when we hear answers from friends from the other tens?

Answer: We must try to accept them as our internal qualities, and feel them that way. And they will feel you in themselves in the same way. You must accept what your friend says and what he feels as if it were coming from you.

Question: Let’s say I am at a workshop with a friend: he says something, and I am trying to feel it. How do I accept it as mine?

Answer: As closely as possible, as if it were happening inside you. This is how you should treat each friend in the ten and all of them together, because the ten is your soul. Only for now do you feel it as something outside of yourself.

When you begin to feel it as something within you, then through this you will come to a connection with the Creator. He will reveal Himself within your connection as the one who creates and fills it.

Don’t Nullify Your Ego

232.05The wisdom of Kabbalah is not like yoga or any other methods or religions that say that we must eradicate the ego. Kabbalah differs from all other systems on this point. We do not eradicate egoism, but use it to create an even greater connection between us despite it and above it. Then this connection will be much higher than the one that was between us before the shattering of Adam.

It is said: “Everyone who has more egoism is greater than others.” Therefore, do not be offended by your egoism, do not curse it, do not try to level it, destroy it, or annul it. There is no need. We must constantly think about how to create the right connections between us above it. This approach is purely Kabbalistic, there is nothing like it anywhere else.

In Kabbalah, you remain the same egoist you were, and on each degree, you become an even greater egoist. This is called growth along the left line, and in the right line you must correct yourself. And so, one above the other. That is why it is said that all transgressions are covered with love. There can be no love without transgressions.

So do not worry about the fact that you are egoists, that you are the most disgusting people on earth, and sometimes are offended by the fact that you are like this. This is all done by the Creator. As it is said: “Turn to the Creator who created this, He will correct everything.” Moreover, our appeal to Him so that He can correct what He has created brings Him contentment and gives us the opportunity to rise above our egoism.

And so, we rise all the time. Left leg—egoism rises, right leg—we rise above it in the quality of bestowal. Reception—bestowal, reception—bestowal, there are two lines, and we are in the middle line. The middle line is called “Adam,” similar to the Creator and consisting of black and white.

When Questions Disappear

560Question: How can I explain the state when there are no questions? I am in harmony with myself and I have no desires or questions.

Answer: People tend to ask all kinds of questions, from small to great. We are talking about those who have deep questions about the meaning of the universe, the meaning of suffering, the meaning of life, in particular, about what happened, is happening, and will happen to me, how I can change my destiny, and so on. There are many questions.

But sometimes they disappear, and a person becomes like a plant, even less. His questions really disappear, and without them, without the desire to learn, to know, to grasp, and to find, we exist on a still level. After all, our entire development is built on the fact that we feel questions, solve them, bring their solution closer to us, and thus develop.

Therefore, the more questions a person has, the greater the potential for his development. This comes from his desires. He may not be developed yet, he may not have answered his questions yet, but it is quite possible that he will answer them.

The disappearance of questions occurs for two reasons. First, the Creator (the light) has moved away from you, there is no feeling of the Creator in you, you do not even strive for knowledge of this world, for anything. You do not need anything: everything is calm, good.

This is the concealment of the Creator, because His approach causes all sorts of life questions in the people of our world.

Second, there are people next to you or just a person who can answer all the questions, and you suddenly feel calm, because you seem to connect to him, you do not yet realize the answers, but you understand that they are there.

The presence of such a person next to you neutralizes, calms, your questions and desires disappear. But this passes, egoism takes its toll, requires further development, and you move forward.

What Would You Change in Your Life?

202.0Comment: Scientists have often asked people who know they are about to die: “What would you change in your life?” Reflecting on their lives, people are ready to change everything: relationships, actions, even thoughts.

Is it worth reaching the end to confess one’s own mistakes to oneself?

Answer: On one hand even in the last minutes, reevaluation and reflection on the path taken makes sense. But on the other hand, what prevents us from periodically conducting such self-assessments?

Such exercises would help us and change us for the better. After all, a person would have time to “work on the mistakes.”

We need to draw conclusions in advance, at the beginning of life and not at the end when we can only regret. This is what the science of Kabbalah invites us to do.
