Talks about the Steps of the Ladder, Part 23
How Can We Reach the Creator from a Middle Prayer?
The middle prayer is called “recognition of evil.” It expresses the extent to which we see our heart’s qualities. The external prayer is our ideal vision of ourselves, even if we do not fully agree with it. Yet, according to the middle prayer, we agree or deceive ourselves into wanting to be as we envision.
If we dwell in our heart, we can gradually see the connection between all such elements, discern where the Creator arranges them, and thus know how we can relate to the Creator.

But the lower ones cannot receive the illumination of the left before it is clothed in Hassadim from the right line.
This is why Esau was weary and said, “Behold, I am at the point to die; and what profit shall the birthright do to me?” (Rashbi, Zohar for All, Vol. 3, “About the Revival of the Dead“)
After all, he wanted to receive the light of Hochma in his egoistic desires, his receiving Kelim, and he is not able to do this.
It is like our whole life. We want to enjoy life; we chase after all the pleasures and want to receive them, but as soon as I am about to achieve some pleasure, it immediately disappears. And so it has been my entire life.
That is why Esau was weary and said: “I cannot continue like this any longer. I am tired. I have despaired of all this. I am ready to unite with Jacob.”
Today all of humanity stands on the threshold of such awareness. And that is why the wisdom of Kabbalah is revealed—the method of Jacob. After all, this is the science of how to build a middle line.
Before such despair came, there was no need for the wisdom of Kabbalah. The need for it has appeared now. After all, the Torah is revealed from the middle line, the correction of egoism.

Question: There is division in our ten. Some of the ten are only for joy and some are in different states. So the ten set a condition that everyone should gather together only in joy, and if you are in a descent, you should turn off the camera. Is this correct?
Answer: When a person goes to a meeting in the ten, he must be in an elevated mood. This is a mandatory condition; otherwise, the Creator will not accept his prayer.
Question: The more I study, the feeling of joy in me calms down more and more. It is as if it is hiding inside.
What should joy be like? Is it a feeling that you hide inside or should everyone see that you are happy to serve the Creator?
Answer: Joy should be common and all-encompassing in that you and your friends express your common desire to reach the Creator in order to bring Him your desire and fill Him.

Question: What does it mean to wish to bring everyone closer to the goal of creation with the Creator?
Answer: The desire of the Creator is to bring us closer to the goal of creation so that we can comprehend Him and merge with our root.
Then we will truly understand the intention of the Creator when He created us and determined our paths.
The similarity of our work with the work of the Creator is that we want to reveal His plan in our every move, in whatever it may be.
Whatever direction of movement we find ourselves in, we must know that it comes from Him. We need to study these movements and change ourselves in accordance with them. This is practically what we need to do—learn how to respond correctly to the plan of the Creator.

Question: If you could step into the Creator’s place, how would you answer these children’s questions? Oleg, a 4th grader, asks: “Why did You make humans the main beings on Earth?”
Answer: That is a complicated issue. I made humans intelligent and gave them the ability to correct themselves. If they refuse to do so and remain foolish, I can only agree, stay silent, and wait.
Comment: Humans have been given intelligence, placed on this Earth. The Earth is really beautiful, nature and everything are beautiful. Yet, we ruin it.
My Response: Yes.
Question: Are we a mistake or not?
Answer: Of nature?
Comment: Let’s say, of the Creator.
Answer: Of the Creator, I think we are not a mistake. But we will only realize it when we begin to correct ourselves. For now, we don’t want to.
Question: Is our path programmed and someday a turning point toward correction will inevitably happen?
Answer: Yes, I am certain it must happen, and fairly soon.
Question: Will it be a shock, a sudden thought, or the discovery of a new kind of mind?
Answer: It will emerge from within us. We will begin to feel what the other world, the new world, the higher world, should be.
Question: And we will want to reach it?
Answer: Yes, absolutely!

Why were the people of Israel divided into twelve tribes? The fact is that there is a four-letter (Yud-Hay-Vav-Hay) or four-phase development of desire. The light that generates desire guides it through these phases, and the last one is egoistic.
It turns out that there are four phases in our soul, and if I feel something, it means that I have gone through the previous stages of development and feel their manifestation in me.
Moreover, spiritual work is carried out along three lines: right, left, and middle. The right line is altruism, the quality of bestowal and love, the left line is egoism.
And I am in the middle line because I have to select from the left line only those egoistic desires that can be corrected, compare them with the right line, and place them together in the center. At this moment, at this phase, this is my prepared soul.
Therefore, the four phases multiplied by three lines result in twelve parts, twelve tribes, twelve fundamental qualities that make up the collective soul.
Each of us does not have a soul; the soul can only be common—one for all. And if we unite in it, we will acquire it; each and every one.

Question: When we are in the state of the revelation of evil; it is far from joy. However, it is said that on the spiritual path, one must be joyful. How is this reconciled?
Answer: You still have awareness of your state. You feel that you are not in a spiritual state, but should be. This awareness alone is enough to bring you some joy.
Question: There is joy that comes from the despair of being far from the Creator and joy when we are uplifted. Can these two types of joy be made equal, or are they different levels?
Answer: They are different levels with different sources of joy. Therefore, we must simply understand that in every state we seek to draw closer to the Creator. This is our most important task. From any state we experience, since it undoubtedly comes to us from the Creator, we wish to become closer to the Creator.

Question: The world exists on mutual bestowal. How can this concept be developed within the ten?
Answer: Mutual bestowal within the ten means that each of you cultivates love for your friends and is focused solely on this.
Question: What if a friend is not actively participating in the circle of bestowal within the group? Can the others bring her into the circle, and how?
Answer: They can, but it is very difficult. It requires literally infecting her with the necessity of bestowal.
