A Child Learns Everything on His Own

627.2

One of the worst blunders is to think that pedagogy is the science of the child; no! It is the science of man (Janusz Korczak, How to Love a Child).

Janusz Korczak’s ideas and practical pedagogical achievements permanently went down in the history of Polish and world pedagogy. They have become a unique source of knowledge, ideas and inspiration in the quest for new educational solutions… .

For Korczak, his social and educational work with the child firmly at the centre was a way of showing reverence for what is human in the figure of the child. It was also a way of recognising, through action, the child’s full human worth. …

The company of children can indeed be tiring, Korczak conceded. But this is not because we have to strain to lower ourselves to their level. On the contrary: the exertion lies in our having to raise ourselves to their level, to their feelings, so as not to hurt them. Once we have learned to know children we realise, Korczak claimed, that we have no reason for boasting.

“As to feelings, they outdo us with unbridled power. As to intellect, they are our equals, lacking only experience …” (Topicality and Relevance of Janusz Korczak’s Pedagogical Approach to Children and Their Upbringing).

Question: In your opinion, is pedagogy for children or for adults?

Answer: It is to understand the children.

Question: So, it turns out that it is for parents, for teachers, and not for children?

Answer: Yes, and what is there to teach a child? How can you teach him?! He will gradually learn on his own from life.

Question: So, all these institutions where they teach, teach, teach, in fact …?

Answer: They don’t teach anything. The child has his own conceptual apparatus; he is constantly in it and processes all the data received from the outside world. And it all happens very rapidly for him.

Question: Does the child process it on his own, as you say? Is he studying precisely by himself?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Then why does the whole system of upbringing, education, all this huge system, exist?

Answer: It is spinning around us on its own and that is it. There is nothing we can do with it. You cannot put anything into a child, but just the environment, friends, teachers, also partly. But all this creates the inner world of the child, who then enters into life. And then he begins to take from life.

Question: What do you think parenting is? You have pushed education back a bit now.

Answer: First, education and upbringing are not the same thing. Education is filling a child with all sorts of wisdom, and parenting is an example of an adult to a child of how to behave in certain circumstances.

Question: Is an adult a teacher, a parent, an environment, and so on?

Answer: Yes.

Question: So, it turns out that the right upbringing is to put the child in an environment that gives the right examples. What examples should be shown to a child so that this child grows up correctly and is brought up correctly?

Answer: It is impossible to say. The child selects these examples himself and assimilates them.

Question: I’m showing an example, but maybe he takes something of his own from this and only understands that?

Answer: Yes.

Question: How do you penetrate into this child’s world?

Answer: There is no need to! Let him develop on his own.

Comment: But I have to guide him somehow.

My Response: I don’t think it is necessary. Let him run down the street, communicate with his peers, and thus he will develop.

Question: Should there be an ideal environment for a child to grow up in?

Answer: Children and animals.

Question: To have children and animals around. And where is the place for an adult?

Answer: There is no place for an adult there. Adults will impose all sorts of behavioral laws on children, and this is not necessary. Gradually, the child will grow up, and he will discover these laws for himself.

Question: Should an adult get involved in the children’s battles?

Answer: No! I think there should be no teachers here.

Question: And then what grows out of a child if, as you say, he is surrounded by children, animals, nature?

Answer: In accordance with his inner world, he soaks in and absorbs everything that can be obtained from the world.

Comment: There is also drawing, dancing, and natural history. There is a place where an adult comes and says: “Let me teach the child.” Things like that.

My Response: There is no need! He will learn by himself. And all these disciplines imposed on him, on the contrary, will limit him.

Comment: I’m already talking about simple disciplines: dancing, drawing. Will he master even that?

My Response: Yes.

Question: Is there any conclusion to be drawn?

Answer: The conclusion is very simple: leave children alone with your great thoughts and instructions, pedagogy, everything-everything-everything that is in you.

Question: What about the parents then? Parents, adults, somehow still exist. How should parents raise their children properly?

Answer: I do not see in any generation, and we have lived for many, many, many hundreds of generations, that some generation took something useful and good from their parents and achieved something useful and good. Every time we just relearn.

Question: So, you learn from your mistakes, you learn from your life, you learn everything yourself. And it is necessary to leave, you say, a person with this “himself,” to leave him to go?

Answer: Yes. I hope that we will come to a state when we understand how we should treat children in general. I hope that this will be understood and realized in the near future.

When the Greatness of the Upper World Does Not Let Go

231.01Question: You patiently explain the same things year after year. Where do you get such patience from?

Answer: You know me. I am impatient! But I have no choice. That is an example of the greatness of the goal, the vision of the upper picture of the universe prevailing over all my animal qualities.

I am terribly impatient and harsh. I cannot stand people. I am an introvert. I have so many negative qualities I am shocked at myself.

But when I see a spiritual system, get involved in it, and work for it, then all these qualities work the other way around, oppositely. I become patient and explain the same thing twenty times. For many years now,   I start every morning and end every day like this. But it could never have happened before!

I made many revolutions in life until I came to the science of Kabbalah. I am not even talking about myself, but about the fact that this system, once revealed to you, conquers you, seemingly enslaving you. You cannot stop working for it because its greatness, harmony, and perfection will not let you go.

You cannot turn to something different because it is like falling into manure. Will you stay there? No! You still have to get up and dust it off.

While here is the Garden of Eden! True, it hurts to see it unfinished like this, but the system itself is shining on you. So you have to take an active part in reviving it completely.

Love Is Born Out of Hate

963.5Question: One boy had a very bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and said: “Whenever you offend someone, hammer one nail into the fence.” On the first day, the boy hammered 37 nails. Then he began to learn to control his anger, and the day came when he did not hammer a single nail.

His father said, “Now for every day that you have managed to restrain yourself, pull one nail out of the fence.” One day there was not a single nail left in the door, he pulled everything out.

The father said, “Son, you have done a great job. But look at how many holes are left in the wood. It will never be the same again.”

The moral is this: Every time you offend someone, it leaves scars. You can take back your words later, but the scars will remain forever.

The question is, is it possible to resist offending another? After all, you say that we are egoists anyway. Can we do it?

Answer: No, every moment we try to lower others; otherwise, I do not feel that I am living!

Question: You see and feel it, but you do it anyway?

Answer: Yes.

Comment: And by this we, as if, leave scars.

My Response: This is the principle of existence of our world.

Question: It means it is all covered in scars, by and large. Are the scars in me or in the one I am lowering?

Answer: In fact, it is in you.

Question: So, these scars remain in me. If we cover our transgressions, the fact that we offend someone, as you say with love, what happens to these scars?

Answer: Then they heal! There are no traces left!

Question: So, is the assumption that it is possible to heal scars so that no traces remain true?

Answer: None of the traces.

Question: This is the most important advice! If you cover all this transgression with love.

Answer: It is said about this: “Love covers all crimes.”

Question: How can you cover with love? How can you do it?

Answer: Selflessly. That is, just love. That is all.

Question: You just now humiliated him.

Answer: No, not just now, it cannot happen right away.

Question: You felt that you humiliated him, and it made you feel bad. Is this the case in stages?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Do you have to somehow evoke love for him? Can this love be evoked? It does not exist in me.

Answer: Yes, love can be evoked. From where? Because there is hate. This hatred, from the opposite side, manifests itself as love.

Question: So my hatred for this person is what causes love. At what point? Is it when I feel like I am wrong or what?

Answer: It is under the influence of the upper light.

Question: But do I need to feel something? That I want to make it up somehow, it hurts me, I feel bad, I have scars! Should I feel this?

Answer: Yes. It has to be present.

Comment: Then, this is a man before us.

In most cases, we do not feel it. Basically, we justify all the scars we inflict.

My Response: It means that we will have to check ourselves and correct ourselves a lot more.

Question: Why are we not hurt by these scars, we have so many? We have already “massacred” many people.

Answer: But we do not feel it. Our egoism erases it all carefully.

Question: When do I start to feel this, and what is it to “cover with love” hatred or dislike for the other?

Answer: I cannot say any more. Imagine that you are writing on a blackboard and then you start gradually erasing every word you say and writing the opposite.

Question: Do you mean “I hate” – “I love”? “You” – “myself,” like this?

Answer: Yes.

Feedback

608.02Question: What does it mean to make the right decision that immediately leads to correction?

Answer: Making the right decision that immediately leads to correction is difficult. But gradually, we are getting to it.

When we begin to understand the negative and positive influences of the Creator, we influence Him ourselves, i.e., we establish feedback and reflected light (Ohr Hozer). Thus, we gradually choose which of our qualities can differ from the Creator’s and benefit us.

Question: In feedback, is the main thing that we want to reflect the pleasure that the Creator wishes to give us or that we want to return this pleasure to Him?

Answer: The main thing is that we want to return the pleasure.

A Life Blessed by the Lord

737.01It is written: “A Field that the Lord Has Blessed.” Our whole life is like a field along which a man walks and collects everything from it that seems useful for his life. But if he wants his state to be like a field that is blessed by the Creator, then he must treat his life as a gift given to him from above.

The Creator is inside this field of life and allows a man to receive from it everything necessary in order to grow a harvest in this field and enjoy the fruit grown with the blessing of the Creator. And then it turns out that his field is truly a field blessed by the Creator.

The field is the upper power of the Creator clothed in the world. And in this field good fruit can grow, and harmful weeds can grow too. It all depends on the man and on how he accepts all this, that is, on what he wants to grow in this field.

The Creator has prepared a field, land, and seeds for a man; the only thing missing is man’s work. And it depends on a man’s attitude to this field of his life: whether he wants good, correct fruit to grow in this field or whether he is indifferent and does not think about it at all.

Therefore, if a person treats his life as a field blessed by the Creator, then he must connect with the Creator and make every effort so that everything that is needed grows in this field.

Why Didn’t Anyone Want to Buy Newton’s Legacy

219.01Question: When the great Newton died, his relatives wanted to sell his writings. Naturally, they wanted to get hundreds of thousands of pounds for it.

Buyers came from the Cambridge Library, from the British National Museum, bishops, and so on. They would open Newton’s writings, start reading them and pushed them away as if it were a plague. His work remained untouched for many, many years.

The fact is, Newton believed in one God. Among other things, he quoted Rambam and followed the Jewish sages.

He wrote about the uniqueness of God, who created everything, who transmitted knowledge about the system of the universe to the first man—Adam, and then to the chosen few up to Abraham, and then to the Jewish people. This is how Newton defined the role of the Jews in the world history.

However, in a direct way, the secrets were accessible to very few. That is, they were accessible to Moses and carefully encrypted in the structure of the Jerusalem Temple. So, Newton began studying the Jerusalem Temple. In every turn and corner, he saw the harmony of the universe and wrote about it.

I do not know if it is possible to make such a comparison, but Abraham and Moses got such access to the Creator, so Newton wanted to get it too. That is, he wanted to break through to the Creator by means of science. Is it possible or not?

Answer: Through science? I think not. Many people wanted to break through science to a vision of the upper world, the upper governance, but no one was allowed to do it that way.

Question: Can you tell us why? Basically, did he take the first steps?

Answer: On the outside, he took external steps toward this in his discoveries.

Question: Yes, and he also studied Hebrew. But why is it not allowed?

Answer: The fact is you cannot reveal it that way. One must discover new instruments for attaining nature and make it so that nature would reveal itself to him. That is, from the side of man to the Creator and from the side of the Creator to man. I do not think this is possible except through Kabbalah and the science of Kabbalah. In fact, many have tried to accomplish this, but encountered such restrictions that they could not achieve this.

Question: So, after such attempts, is there no opening appearing in the heart or somewhere inside a person?

Answer: It opens up a little and it is opening, in fact, in science.

Question: And then one goes back to science?

Answer: Yes.

Comment: So, this fulfillment of the scientist—shuts everything down.

Answer: You can see how it happens. From generation to generation science somehow moves forward in small steps, but it is in fact not allowed to go further.

Question: You have been doing this all your life, and you say, “Only through Kabbalah.” You seemed to have tried to break through both the scientific method and the method of Kabbalah. And you still say: “Through Kabbalah?”

Answer: Yes.

Comment: Here we have one point you keep talking about called “faith above reason.” That is, the scientist follows the mind. The Kabbalist follows faith above reason.

My Response: Yes.

Question: For regular people, can you explain again what is it, what is the difference between the other sciences if faith is above reason?

Answer: I cannot explain it. A person should seriously engage in self-education, but not from other methods or sources.

Comment: Not psychology.

My Response: This is not psychology. One must position himself in relation to nature so nature will let him in.

It lets you in when a person is ready to serve it in everything for the sake of attaining nature. That is, for the Creator to be above all else for him. This is not a religious attachment to the Creator, but rather a devotion to the Creator in the idea, the adhesion to the Creator.

Question: What is the difference between religion and the science of Kabbalah in this case? You said: “This is not a religion.” Religion too has a direction, it has a specific aim. But here?

Answer: Here one must follow the commandments of the Creator in order to attain Him.

Question: But not there?

Answer: No, religion does not offer a direction to attain the Creator; no.

Question: So why do I follow the commandments?

Answer: To follow His external instructions, external laws.

Question: But this point of attaining Him is missing?

Answer: Yes, although you cannot explain it at all. You need to study and little by little begin to understand what is required of you.

Question: So it still requires me to change?

Answer: Yes.

Question: At what point do I realize I have to change? I keep studying and studying—at what point?

Answer: When complete self-annulment is required.

The Names of the Creator—Attainment of His Properties

610.2He is called El, Elokim, Shadai, Tzvaot, EKYEH, so they would know Him in each and every attribute (Baal HaSulam, Foreword to The Book of Zohar, #40).

Question: The names of the Creator correspond to the ten Sefirot. Is it their filling or their naming?

Answer: These are ten Sefirot with light in them.

The name of the Creator consists of the Kli and the light that fills it. Kabbalists express their achievements in almost identical names. These names make it easier to indicate what you are suggesting. Just like in our world, if you talk about someone or something, you express some particular perception of this object, nothing more.

Question: What does it mean that the Kli of the ten takes such a form that it can accept the light or the name of the Creator, for example, El, Adni, or Eki?

Answer: It all depends on the level at which a person unites all the concepts of his relationship with the Creator. In what he is similar to the Creator, he senses this measure of similarity in himself, measures it, and thus names the Creator.

Just like in our world, you say some person is smart and has some kind of feature. That is, you call it that through your perception of its properties.

Question: Concerning the Creator, can I measure and verify this?

Answer: By comprehending the Creator, you measure your likeness to Him. And everyone who reveals Him on the same level calls Him the same way.

Let’s Turn Our Life into a Spiritual Ascent

933Our life is a field blessed by the Creator, on which we must grow our spiritual future. And it depends only on us what kind of harvest we will gather from this field.

Everything depends on how we treat this soil from which it should grow, our attitude to working together in the field of all of us, and our attitude to the Creator. After all, the Creator gives this earth the strength to grow crops according to our desire.

Therefore, everything depends on the work between us and our appeal to the Creator. The field is the connection between us in the group and the Creator. And we need to ask the Creator to unite us more so that our common prayer reaches Him and so He gives strength to the earth to grow fruits on it.

This prayer depends only on our desire to achieve a result together and our willingness to put all our strength and hopes into this achievement, then a genuine prayer will be born from us turning to the Creator, which will awaken and oblige Him to give a harvest to our field, as it says: “My sons defeated me.”

That is how we will feel, attain, and discover the whole world, called the field. The world will open up before us like a book, and we will move forward together as one soul, one force, where everyone depends on each other and is connected to each other. That is when we will reveal that we really have a field of life blessed by the Creator in front of us.

We want to receive the strength and knowledge from the Creator of how we can work with our lives to turn them into an uplift and raise them to the degree of the spiritual world.
