Question: The eternal topic: fathers and sons—the gap between generations. Why are we so different and do not understand each other? Every 10-15 years a new generation comes, and it is different from the former by its perception of the world. What will help us live in peace with each other with all the differences of views?
Essentially, the generation of fathers has built the entire material basis for our lives, and succeeding generations are less and less compelled to engage in materiality and are more committed to internal human research. How deep in reality is the gap between generations?
Answer: The gap between generations needs to be measured not in quantitative indicators, but in qualitative ones. And this is very difficult because to assess the quality you need to measure the deficiencies: What is this generation aspires for, what is most important for it, that is, what is its scale of priorities?
If we take clear, basic desires: food, sex, family, money, power, and knowledge and measure at what level they stand in each generation and what their priorities are, then we can compose a picture of each generation. But I do not think that someone was engaged in such research.
The wisdom of Kabbalah studies human desires, but does not compare generation to generation. For it, this is not so important. We know that humanity is constantly moving forward, in fact, approaching a great crisis.
In the end, desires for food, sex, family, money, power, and knowledge will not give a person any fulfillment, and he will want to develop above them. The wisdom of Kabbalah is intended to help in this.
And as long as humanity will not engage in such development of man, he may get stuck in ephemeral material desires for many years and even centuries. We always think that at the next level of desire we will grasp the essence of our life. As if it is there in wealth, in honor, in knowledge that the mystery of life lies, and that by revealing it, we will become happy.
So humanity gradually ripens, until it finally gets disillusioned in all its development, which essentially spun between these six basic desires. But we can shorten the time required for our development. We already see that development leads us to a global crisis, leaving a person completely devastated and swearing that it is better to die than live such a life.
A person cannot live without pleasure, but modern man will not be able to receive pleasure because the egoistic desire completed its development. Man is left without desires, in despair, and does not know where to continue further. But Kabbalah explains that all human evolution from the very beginning was absolutely a lost cause.
Realizing this, we reduce our ordeals for many hundreds of years and avoid wars, disputes, great suffering, and tragedies on the level of individual, the family, and the state. With the help of integral education, Kabbalah can lead humanity to realization of all its mistakes, without having to go through them all on its own skin.
And this is what Kabbalah advises people: give a person the right education as soon as possible so that he understands that the race for six material idols: food, sex, family, money, honor, and knowledge does not promise any success. Then this race will be short, thought through, and will quickly end, giving a beneficial result, that is, leading to the realization of evil.

Answer: You could unite like that all you want, but your desires will not be connected. They only unite if you yearn for a single goal, a higher goal above your ego, according to the principle, “When in Him will my soul rejoice.”
To rise to the upper world, two people must unite and create a common desire like that of the Creator.
This desire is built upon mutual integration between them where they are ready to help each other have a positive influence on the Creator. Nonetheless, a person begins to influence the Creator to the same degree that the Creator influences the person.
Question: What are the tools that the wisdom of Kabbalah offers to a person who wants to begin to manage his reality?
Answer: This instrument is the characteristic of bestowal that we acquire when we connect together.
It means that a third characteristic is built between two egoists (ego 1 and ego 2), the characteristic of bestowal (bestowal 1+2). To the degree that they bestow to each other mutually, they begin to direct and turn it toward the Creator.
From the Kabbalah Lesson in Russian 11/27/16
Torah, Deuteronomy 22:16 – 22:17: And the girl’s father shall say to the elders, “I gave my daughter to this man as a wife, and he despised her; and behold, he made libelous charges, saying, ‘I did not find evidence of your daughter’s virginity.’ But this is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity!’
The “evidence of virginity” are personal desires of a person. He wants to abandon them, doesn’t want to correct anything, and says that they are not his.
He isn’t going to live with this woman and to give birth to her offspring; in other words, he doesn’t accept either her or the fact that he can create something together with her. This is because it is impossible to correct such egoism.
We see this on clear examples from our practice. The Torah describes states that everyone undergoes on his individual path. A person sometimes reveals such egoistic lowland in him that he can do nothing with.
Many of us keep going, yet many will “fall” and leave. Others will come instead of them, and this way the caravan is gradually moving forward.
Torah, Deuteronomy 22:17 – 22:18: And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city. Then, the elders of that city shall take the man and chasten him.
A person should feel suffering from the fact that he wants to give up the curing of his egoism. Without it, he won’t want to rise because suffering helps him agree to the correction. And in this way he is driven to happiness by the “stick.”

In the News (The Guardian): “’We come in peace’ might be the traditional opening gambit for aliens in science fiction, but we should be wary about beaming back a response to any advanced life-forms in real life, Stephen Hawking has warned.
“Our first contact from an advanced civilisation could be equivalent to when Native Americans first encountered Christopher Columbus and things ‘didn’t turn out so well’, he cautioned. …
“It is not the first time Hawking has warned about the prospect of hostile aliens. Launching the Breakthrough Listen project, which will scan the nearest million stars for signs of life, last year he suggested that any civilisation reading our messages could be billions of years ahead of humans. ‘If so they will be vastly more powerful and may not see us as any more valuable than we see bacteria,’ he said.”
My Comment: If there were an extraterrestrial civilization that existed that possessed such high technology, accordingly it would also be on a higher level of thinking and social order. In fact, all structures of social development will develop in parallel and determine the levels of development of each other.
According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, no other civilizations besides this one on the face of the Earth exists in nature! Our universe fully reflects the higher system of HaVaYaH, from which it follows that we are alone in the universe and must bring the entire universe, the levels of the still, vegetative, and animate, to complete connection specifically uniting reasonably on the social (human) level.
Question from Facebook: You say that the world is terrible. I just dropped everything and left the city. How can one live in the cities? Returning to nature is the solution to all problems.
Answer: I understand you, yet this is not the solution to the problem but an escape from problems. In principle, this is what many people do: If there is a possibility, they buy a small house on an island in the ocean and live there. You too are welcome to buy a house in the countryside and live in peace.
I personally cannot do this because I worry about the world, the society, people, their changing nature, and them reaching the purpose of creation. Studying the world, I begin to realize that the world was created for humans to change, to ascend, to transform themselves and thereby transform the world.
Therefore, I cannot retire and live somewhere on a tree, thinking that everything is peaceful and good. I am concerned about other problems than just retire and end my life in peace.
Moving from cities to nature will not change anything. This will not end our problems. We see that we left caves, climbed down from trees, evolved, and all this happened in us naturally. We cannot think of anything else.
We have nowhere to go because we only have a small planet Earth. Instead of separating and isolating ourselves from each other, we have to create good relations among ourselves.

New Life #659 – Unity Between Right And Left
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
The need to define ourselves as members of the right or left wings of the political map is part of our development as human beings. There is a constant struggle all over the world between the right and the left parties. We must not destroy either side; we must find a way to combine and connect the two without letting either side control the other.
