The Unpredictable World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: In the process of integral education, do we need to disclose that we do not know exactly what the future society will be like?

Answer: We simply implement integral education and in accordance with this we will see how best to gradually change the world to match our new states.

This is the world that we cannot even foresee so in no way should we get ahead of ourselves.

The fact is that we have always evolved linearly under the pressure of our egoism and that is why we could predict the next images, states, and plans for the future, but here not.

The plan for building an integral society is only in the organization of our self-improvement more than anything. And all the rest originates from it. That is why we have no long-term plan; it depends on a person, the pace of his change.

From the moment we accept this idea, it becomes very simple. That is, I should not force myself to fit in some future framework. I will reach the framework that I want to reach. We are already becoming integral, free. The main thing for us is to be engaged in unity, mutual guarantee, and nothing else. From this follows the rest.

Lessons From The Common Meals

Dr. Michael LaitmanProtracted crises are beginning right now; it is very difficult for people to sustain life today from an economic perspective; people need to make their income last an entire month to feed themselves, provide for themselves, create all the necessary conditions for their children, their family, and elderly family members. In such a case it would be wonderful to organize great communal meals.

Right now, our community is buying a new building, and we are planning to move there. I really want for the kitchen there to be operating from morning till night. And all the members of our community could bring their families there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This would be very convenient and would be five to ten times cheaper than at home. And most importantly, this unites and connects people and leads toward understanding that unity is beneficial in all instances of life.

I think that the current crisis will unwillingly “push” us towards these circumstances. And this is a good thing because man, a small egoistic being, will begin to understand that nature, from every angle, is showing him the way to act, just like animals who constantly adjust to nature, wishing to maintain themselves in their best condition.

This notion can be close to a person or not, depending on one’s personality. But the fact is that integral upbringing must naturally bring a person to this state.

By nature I am a lone wolf. I have my own office, which I would never want to leave and could live there my entire life. But once I have realized how important the meals are, I have felt what it is that they give me spiritually, how I grow at the same time, how I learn from communicating with others.

When I dine with my students, I learn integration from them. I have never experienced it before since I attained the spiritual space in a different way. But I see it here and feel it through them. This is a very interesting discovery for me.

This is the practice of a new state, the next dimension, when through this direct interaction, a person begins to create within himself absolutely new foundations of perception and regards the world in a completely different common, global way. He becomes accustomed to identifying with a community, and then automatically begins to identify himself with mankind, the world, and all of nature.

Understanding The Laws Of Nature

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn teaching a person the integral laws, we have to turn him into a little scientist. He has to understand where he is, what really makes the world go round, and how nature fulfills everything. We are dominated by nature; we are not above it and not external to it. Where did we come from if not as a result of its plan and programming? We see that this plan and this programming do in fact exist.

People once thought that everything happened by chance or they attributed everything to the Creator or to another factor. Is there coincidence in nature? Everything is predetermined. There is no chance here! We think that there is coincidence because we see only half of the phenomenon without seeing the other half.

In nature, there are connections, grave and serious laws. We exist in them and thanks to them. Suddenly a person who lives in these laws, which sustain him says, “They don’t exist.” A person doesn’t even understand how deeply he is immersed in such nonsense, and at the same time he believes that he is smart.

How can you be above nature? Who are you?—some tiny person on the edge of a tiny galaxy? I understand that a small child believes that he is big, but if we look at ourselves from the side, then who are we? What are we? See what a storm or a tsunami does to everyone!

We are only great in one thing, in preparing weapons against ourselves, and in nothing else but that. What can we be proud of?! What do we create? Nothing good. Everything is only in order to destroy our environment and ourselves.

Where else can we see such an inclination, such a movement, in nature?! What kind of reason does a person have if he operates against his own existence?! We are worse than animals.

Animals optimally take care of themselves; they exist instinctively by the laws of nature. We, however, were given larger brains by nature, additional desires, and we use them only for self-annihilation. What kind of brains do we have? They are opposite! Our egoism is killing us.

Reason is an objective study of the world around us and advancing yourself to matching this world to the optimal state in it.

Individuality Is In Including Yourself In Everyone Else

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How does my integral sense of perception, the new layer of my psyche combine or resist my subjective “I,” my individuality?

Answer: Your individuality is beneath your “we.” Never pressure your “I.”

The thing is that your “I” always keeps growing in the sense that you can realize yourself through the “we.” As you include yourself in the common organ of humanity’s entire desire and thought, you begin to “swell,” expand.

Your expanding sensations and consciousness seem to cover all of mankind. Like a pregnant woman with a fetus inside her, you will feel like you contain all of humanity inside you. This is the actual realization of your “I.”

Your inclusion in everyone else is your individuality. For example, a woman’s individuality in her family is expressed through the fact that she holds everyone, serves everyone, takes care of everyone, for the family she is—everything.

Otherwise, your individuality will be expressed through your egoism, individualism, and separation from everyone. There is no longer a place for this in our world, we are going to a new level.

“Women And Girls Have Been Hit Hardest”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Plan and the Overseas Development Institute): “Girls are bearing the brunt of the global economic recession – being more likely to experience poverty, reduced life expectancy and drop out of school, according to a new report from Plan and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI). …

“It says family poverty hits girls hardest – with only a 1% fall in GDP increasing infant mortality by 7.4 deaths per 1,000 girls versus 1.5 for boys.

“The findings also indicate that food shortages and malnutrition are more common among girls than boys. Women also reduce their own food consumption to become ‘shock absorbers’ for household security.

“As women go out to work longer hours for less money, more girls are pushed out of school and into filling the gaps at home with domestic work, into hazardous child labour or even transactional sex.”

My Comment: Integral education leads us to building a society of equals, providing everyone with basic needs, and everyone’s duty to participate in their own correction (education and upbringing). If we stop producing more than is essential for existence, we will get rid of unnecessary and harmful work and will be able to raise ourselves to the next level dictated by nature, the level of integral humanity.

Our Universe Is Simulated

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Silas Beane, physicist): “There is a famous argument that we probably do live in a simulation. The idea is that in the future, humans will be able to simulate entire universes quite easily. And given the vastness of time ahead, the number of these simulations is likely to be huge. So if you ask the question: ‘Do we live in the one true reality or in one of the many simulations?’ the answer, statistically speaking, is that we’re more likely to be living in a simulation. …

“In our universe, the laws of physics are the same in every direction. But in a grid, this changes since you no longer have a space-time continuum, and the laws of physics would depend on direction. … I gave a lecture on this topic the other week and the turnout was amazing. Half of the people looked at me as if I was disturbed and the other half were very enthusiastic.”

My Comment: I understand him perfectly, but as always with a breakthrough, scientists get hit by the ignorant, and they need to be prepared for criticism and wait patiently until people mature…

“What Will Replace The Globalization Model?”

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (David M. Smick, global macroeconomic adviser, founder and editor of the International Economy magazine, author of The World Is Curved: Hidden Dangers to the Global Economy): Here’s a prediction: The political party that controls the White House after January could, four years later, be out of power for a generation. The economic challenges are that daunting. …

“The globalization model of the past 30 years is cracking up. And there appears to be no new model to replace it. …

“It is difficult to underestimate the degree to which this flawed, sometimes frightening, good we call globalization has been the proverbial goose that laid the golden eggs. As a result, the public has unrealistic expectations about how much the economy can deliver in a post-globalization world.”

My Comment: We have to reconsider the whole model of the world as the economy reflects only one of its ugly relationships. Globalization, which was built by egoists, failed, but it has accelerated the realization of evil in egoistic dependence and forces us to recognize the finality, a dead end, of the general egoistic approach to life. A truly global, integral world lies ahead in which all relationships and solutions will be based only on the likeness to the laws of nature, the Creator.

In Disagreement With The New Reality

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: In the past humanity somehow regulated the evil it encountered, but today it seems that the evil has been set loose.

Answer: We have advanced and developed in a constant ascent; our ego grew over the years until it has become “round.” We have always known what to do with it, and how to balance it. Time after time it pushed us forward to new achievements. We have always managed with it: We built, invented, and added something. The deficiency pushed us forward and we reached a filling. If we couldn’t attain it directly we had revolutions.

The generations have changed; there was a time of slavery, and feudalism, the Middle Ages passed, and capitalism came along, and eventually we have reached the last phase, communism. In a “round” state” there can be nothing but mutual connections based on mutual guarantee.

We have to say here that it’s the Creator who evokes the deficiency each time, and by that, the created being receives the power and the mind to fulfill the deficiency. The changing of eras and special moments are typified by revolutions, since such transitions are only possible by troubles, by dramatic changes.

So today, in our current state, we have to act according to the new leadership. All the old approaches and methods will not work today since they were all good up to the moment that we began to become “round.” Now we will receive blows since we aren’t adjusting ourselves to what is happening around us.

These are not anyone’s insinuations, but the natural process of events: If you don’t adjust to the external conditions, you cannot blame anyone for the outcome. For example, what’s the point in blaming others if you went out on a cold winter day without warm clothes? In the same way, we are entering a new world now without having adjusted ourselves to it.

It has been scientifically proven that in the new era we need a greater degree of unity, connection, and cooperation. But we remain the way we were and so we are not adapted to the new reality, to the force of the leadership that has closed us in a “round” system. For over a hundred years scientists and experts have been writing about that, so who is to blame if we don’t listen?

The cost of our not adapting to the changed conditions will be global bankruptcy, systematic collapse, and perhaps even world war. How can it be otherwise if we stubbornly refuse to adjust ourselves to the unity and the connection that the new state requires? We are like the person who has killed his parents and is asking the court for mercy because he is an orphan.

So the time has come to adapt ourselves to the global world, which will continue to “round up” even more. It’s impossible to go on living as in the past, the only way today is unity and connection, according to the world that is becoming one before our eyes.

The Problem Is Only In Us

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe desire to receive does not disappear; it isn’t born, doesn’t develop, and doesn’t change; it is only concealed or revealed to the extent that it can be used. The concealment of the desire and its revelation are determined according to the steps of the spiritual ladder.

The whole system is already arranged and built from the top down: As the levels descend downward, they conceal another part of the desire to receive in it. Its use is concealed from us, since we cannot use it correctly.

To prevent the created beings from making mistakes as they ascend from the bottom up, the desires are gradually revealed to them, only the part of the desire with which they can work correctly. The whole spiritual ladder is a mark on the scale of how much of your desire can be revealed to you so that you can use it, so that you will be able to overcome it and will you want to correct it, and will not lose your head and want to fill it at any cost.

If you were to immediately reveal a strong desire, you would only think of its egoistic fulfillment. If you were given a very high position, for example, you were in charge of all the radio stations and TV channels, then we would not see you in class. You would say that you have more important things to do, that you had to take care of the world.

Therefore, you are not given this position but something much simpler. Everything depends on how much you can really worry and care about the world and, of course, according to what suits the world and whether its time has come. If we could advance more by ourselves, we could give the world more since it is ready for that. It is already open. We could bestow upon it more and bring it closer to us and together with it we could rise to a higher level.

The world is the lower level, and we are the intermediate level, and above us there is an even higher level, the Creator. We have to awaken the world so that the world will awaken us. This means that we have to bestow upon it and to spread the message everywhere possible. Then the world will begin to awaken us, and we will be able to rise to the upper and perform the spiritual action for the world.

Everything is already in its place, and it is called an inner circle, an external circle, and an even more external one. The problem is only in us.

“Europe In 2013: A Year Of Decision”

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (George Friedman, Chairman of Stratfor): “It is the political dimension that has become the most important, not the financial. It may well be that the European Union is in the process of dealing with its banking problems and might avoid other sovereign debt issues, but the price it has paid is both a recession and, much more serious, unemployment at a higher rate than in the United States overall, and enormously higher in some countries.

“We can divide the European Union into three categories by measuring it against the U.S. unemployment rate, which stands at about 7.7 percent. There are five EU countries significantly below that rate (Austria, Luxembourg, Germany, Netherlands and Malta). There are seven countries with unemployment around the U.S. rate (Romania, Czech Republic, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the United Kingdom and Sweden). The remaining 15 countries are above U.S. unemployment levels; 11 have unemployment rates between 10 and 17 percent, including France at 10.7 percent, Italy at 11.1 percent, Ireland at 14.7 percent and Portugal at 16.3 percent. Two others are staggeringly higher — Greece at 25.4 percent and Spain at 26.2 percent. These levels are close to the unemployment rate in the United States at the height of the Great Depression.

“For advanced industrialized countries — some of the most powerful in Europe, for that matter — these are stunning numbers. It is important to consider what these numbers mean socially. Bear in mind that the unemployment rate goes up for younger workers. In Italy, Portugal, Spain and Greece, more than a third of the workforce under 25 is reportedly unemployed. It will take a generation to bring the rate down to an acceptable level in Spain and Greece. Even for countries that remain at about 10 percent for an extended period of time, the length of time will be substantial, and Europe is still in a recession.

“Consider someone unemployed in his 20s, perhaps with a university degree. The numbers mean that there is an excellent chance that he will never have the opportunity to pursue his chosen career and quite possibly will never get a job at the social level he anticipated. In Spain and Greece, the young — and the old as well — are facing personal catastrophe. In the others, the percentage facing personal catastrophe is lower, but still very real. Also remember that unemployment does not affect just one person. It affects the immediate family, parents and possibly other relatives. The effect is not only financial but also psychological. It creates a pall, a sense of failure and dread.

“It also creates unrooted young people full of energy and anger. Unemployment is a root of anti-state movements on the left and the right. The extended and hopelessly unemployed have little to lose and think they have something to gain by destabilizing the state. It is hard to quantify what level of unemployment breeds that sort of unrest, but there is no doubt that Spain and Greece are in that zone and that others might be.

“It is interesting that while Greece has already developed a radical right movement of some size, Spain’s political system, while experiencing stress between the center and its autonomous regions, remains relatively stable. I would argue that that stability is based on a belief that there will be some solution to the unemployment situation. Its full enormity has not yet sunk in, nor the fact that this kind of unemployment problem is not fixed quickly. It is deeply structural. The U.S. unemployment rate during the Great Depression was mitigated to a limited degree by the New Deal but required the restructuring of World War II to really address.

“This is why 2013 is a critical year for Europe.”

My Comment: Although the year 2013 is not expected to be critical, but passing quietly, time weakens the EU and the world. There are more social, rather than economic, problems, but they cannot be solved except through the education of society because it is lost, has no guidance, leaders, or goals. People cannot be managed in these conditions, nothing new can be offered to them. That is why leaders disappear, and the boat is rocking in the middle of the ocean …
