Prophets, Joshua, 8:1; 8:17-8:19: And the Lord said to Joshua, Fear not, and be not dismayed; take all the people of war with you and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land.

And there was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el, that did not go out after Israel; and they left the city open, and pursued Israel.

And the Lord said to Joshua, Stretch out the spear that is in your hand, toward Ai; for I will give it into your hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that was in his hand, toward the city.

And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand; and they entered into the city, and took it, and hastened and set the city on fire.

A person stretches out his hand in order to overcome his egoism and thus bring the general egoism—called the people, the city, under his control. The raised hand is like the staff raised by Moses.

Question: Does it mean that as long as he holds the spear, people will have the strength to conquer the city?

Answer: No, this is not about people. The Torah addresses a single person and indicates how he should behave in such and such circumstances. It gives examples of how to overcome your egoism, how to conquer it. The Torah does not speak about anything else.

The seizure and destruction of the city mean the destruction of the egoistic desire in a person. Such cities and countries exist within every person. The entire universe is within him.

Question: Why does it say that one should raise his hand with a spear and hold it?

Answer: So that under no circumstances you would miss this particular action and this opportunity to conquer the egoistic property within yourself.

“And they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees.” It should have written, “With Terah.” However, Terah, Lot, Abraham, and Sarah went out because they wanted primarily to come out from among the wicked. After Terah saw that Abraham his son saved him from the furnace, he returned to doing Abraham’s will, and because of it, Terah and Lot went out with them. Take close relatives with you means that a person takes all his properties that are closest to him, from which he grew up and found the spiritual path with him.

Therefore, Abraham’s father, Terah, and his wife Sarah (egoism in him) accompany him in his spiritual ascent. He gradually absorbs them into himself and thus rises.

All these properties exist within us, and we must understand how to work with them.
The Torah (Bible) tells about the inner transformation of man, how he rises from his animal level to the level of perfection, eternity, the Creator.

Prophets, Joshua, 12:9 – 12:24: The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, that is beside Bethel, one. The king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; The king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; etc. The king of Tirzah, one; all the kings thirty-one.

Kings are desires that are collected in one common desire called the land of Israel.

A person passing through these desires begins to feel what actually exists in him because each of us is a miniature copy of the land of Israel.

Prophets, “Joshua,” 13:6: Only divide it by lot to the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded you.

Question: What does it mean to cast lots?

Answer: The fact is that everything is predetermined and the whole future picture is extremely clear in all details and in all states.

But all the tribes must internally agree with this. On one hand, they must understand the division of the land (desire), on the other hand, the connection between themselves to realize that everything comes from the Creator. Only in this way can they land on this particular desire.

Therefore, whether you agree or not, the lot has been cast, and you are moving forward.

Question: Which is more difficult: to move by lot or by consent?

Answer: By consent. The lot descends from above. Like it or not, you agree. When you yourself wish, or at least you yourself cast lots, this is another matter. This is already work.

And the Lord said to Joshua, See, I have given into your hand Jericho and its king, the mighty warriors. (Prophets, Joshua, 6:2)

Question: The Creator gave this land to the Israelites on the condition they would move according to His laws. Does His assurance He is giving it to them come from this condition?

Answer: Naturally. How else can He give it and to whom? If you do not observe the laws, it means that you cannot use what the Creator gives you.

The people who are coming closer to the entrance to the Holy Land, that is, to the quality of bestowal, love, and mutual connection, are not awarded anything by themselves. Only if they agree to fulfill the conditions of the Creator will they obtain the right to enter.

Comment: But they have been through so much!

My Response: All of it is preparation. That is why they are at the entrance to the land of Israel.

Prophets, Joshua 13:6: All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, I will drive them out from before the children of Israel; only divide it by lot to the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded you.

Question: What does it mean to not destroy, but rather to banish a desire?

Answer: It’s about working with intentions. Desires remain, they cannot be destroyed in any way. Above every desire, the intention must be changed.

If I stop working with some egoistic intention, then this desire dies off, it means “drive him out of this place.” It no longer feels what it can rule over. And then I start to revive it, revive it to work for the sake of bestowal.

To expel is to remove the desire itself so that there is no connection between it and the egoistic intention. And then the desire remains in a completely amorphous, suspended form, and its egoistic intention disappears.

But when the intention is corrected, then it is already possible to work with the desire again. This is called the complete conquest of the land.

Prophets, Joshua, 13:1: Now Joshua was old, advanced in years; and the Lord said to him, “You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land to be possessed.”

Joshua was old means that his degree had worked itself out. He could no longer be a leader of those desires that would now be revealed. This means followers were needed.

Joshua does not have the strength to cope with the desires that are revealed now in the land of Israel. Therefore, he was no longer able to be in the place of Moses, as he had been all these years. He conquered as many egoistic desires as he could, corrected them to altruistic ones, and he cannot advance farther.

A person feels that there are such desires in front of him that he cannot lead them. He feels that this is not for him, that he is an old man, and this is not his job!

Nevertheless, the work must continue, there must be the next generation. So it is, generation after generation. What is meant here is not a change of a person, but a change of system of how to move forward.

Let us say that Joshua worked on level one of egoism and now we need to work on level two. He does not understand and does not know how to work with it. This is not his nature.

This is called that he has aged because he is not ready for this. The only solution is to pass it on to others.

Prophets, Joshua, 10:42 – 10:43: And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp, to Gilgal.

The camp is the common desire of the Israelites whose intention is aimed only at correction, only at altruistic connections. They exist together in these desires, and therefore, they cannot settle in the captured cities or be among all the nations enslaved by their desires.

Comment: When cities are seized, the conquerors usually settle in them.

My Response: The fact is that a city embodies a certain egoistic desire, but this is not the case here.

Only in certain cities like Jerusalem that symbolize fundamental desires of nature that you are obliged to conquer and subdue can you dwell.

The Kingdom Of Desires

When the people entered the land of Israel, they began to conquer city after city, king after king. But there are still many places to be captured.

To capture means to want to conquer these lands, these peoples, i.e., the egoistic desires in us, to connect them with each other, to direct them to the only goal—the intention for the sake of the Creator, for the sake of global unity, for mutual connection and love. This consists of moving forward and winning.

Question: Why is this possible in the land of Israel?

Answer: Because the land symbolizes egoism, and correction occurs in the egoism itself. Until this land is corrected and begins to flow with milk and honey, it is called the land of Canaan.

Prophets, Joshua 11:06: And the Lord said to Joshua, “Be not afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall cripple their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

Question: If on the way to spirituality (to the Land of Israel) we are persecuted and attacked by egoistic desires, what does it mean that they are on horses and chariots?

Answer: This means that egoism with all its strength and with all its potential opposes connection and work in bestowal and love. There is a very difficult struggle ahead that cannot be overcome at once. There is a weakening of the people of Israel and they begin to moan.

But it is impossible without a fight. We also need to fight to identify our own negative qualities, not only external but also internal. This is how the people of Israel will move forward.

Horses and chariots symbolize all kinds of egoistic tools that seduce people and show them how sweet it is to live in egoistic desires and be bound together by egoistic competition.

In other words, it is the attack of the egoistic desire that greatly attracts a person.
