The Sacrifices We Make

543.02Comment: The word “idolatry” comes from the Greek “idol,” “god.” In the literal sense, this means the worship of some gods to whom sacrifices were made, including human ones.

My Answer: We are constantly making sacrifices in our world. The fact that I get up, go to work, do something for myself, for others, and receive from them, all this can be called a sacrifice of my time, my attention, etc.

In addition, we call a sacrifice a donation, when a person donates from himself for something that is important to him.

The Difference Between Idolatry And Worship

281.02Question: What is the difference between idolatry and worship? Respect?

Answer: The worship of someone or something always exists in our world and determines the difference between the degrees we place people on. We define gradations as better, worse, more beautiful, stronger, and so on.

Idolatry is a completely different attitude to various phenomena of nature when I attribute some special qualities to them.

Moreover, I endow them with my own or contrived qualities because it’s better and more convenient for me. In this way I build myself a more connected picture of the world around me.

Faith Is A Natural Human Need

294.1Question: A person has an inherent need to believe in something, to have idols, to look up to something, to worship something. Is faith inherent in our nature or is it a result of the development of society?

Answer: Faith is a characteristic of a highly developed organism. We cannot say that some primitive creatures or animals have faith. Faith is a natural need of a person since it comes from his insecurities.

Faith is an internal movement of a person who wants to put himself on some kind of pedestal, on some essential natural or scientific basis, where he can rely on something.

Question: As a Kabbalist, what do you believe in, what do you worship?

Answer: In general, I do not believe in anything and I do not worship anyone or anything. But, on the other hand, there are things that I elevate, respect, and try to reach the level of. You can say that I kind of worship them, but this worship is more like respect.

According To The “Love Thy Neighbor” Formula

933Before the collapse of the Second Temple, the Jewish people lived according to the formula “love your neighbor as yourself.” Therefore, they never had the suppression of one by the other like the Romans.

A person was considered great in his spiritual inclinations, in his mercy to others, in mutual help and love. The scientist who knew why it is necessary to live according to the principle of “love your neighbor” interpreted this from within himself. But at the same time, he could do the simplest work.

For example, the great sage Rabbi Yohanan was a shoemaker, someone else was a tailor, and so on. They considered it their duty to participate in simple labor.

After all, the task of a person in this world is to live by his own work, and along with this, to ascend to the very heights of creation with his inner spiritual work. But with the Romans, everything was done totally differently: divide and conquer, suppress with your pride, with your strength.

Rise Above Two Lines

232.08Christians and Muslims reflect two basic natural properties. Christians symbolize the left line (egoism), Muslims symbolize the right (egoistic altruism), and there is no third, middle line in nature. Therefore, those who say that Jews have no place in the world at all are right.

This question will be especially acute now because humanity is finally beginning to realize that it exists in the world, but what world is it? Based on what? What is the purpose? For what?

Right now, even sharper guesses will arise that the secret of existence—for the sake of what?—is in the middle line. This middle line, which should lead us to the goal where we can unravel the riddle of the universe, our origin, and the future state of all mankind is again found belonging to these same Jews.

Question: What does it mean that life can exist only in the middle line?

Answer: The middle line should consist of two opposite properties—Muslim and Christian in the correct combination with each other.

But this is not just a combination, I take it and mixed it in some proportion. You need to rise above both lines and create a completely new property based on them.

Both, egoism (left side) and altruism (right side) must be used correctly, only in ascent. It is necessary to add the middle line to them and rise above egoism and egoistic altruism.

This is not an easy decision. It is impossible to guess its existence. It is revealed in Kabbalah. Since it is very difficult to master, it was gradually passed down through many generations to our time.

Today we begin to reveal it, to explain it. It takes a lot more effort to bring it closer to the masses.

Faith Is Not Knowledge

547.05Question: Those people who feel that their fate is in their hands believe in their own strength more. Can a God-fearing person better control his nature, his thirst for power, if he believes in the upper force of governance? If he believes but does not feel it, can it help?

Answer: No, because faith is not knowledge. We see that as we develop, it gradually disappears from human society, there is no room in it for faith.

Question: Do you think that a person will not be able to overcome his egoistic nature, his thirst for power, without clearly feeling the upper force but only believing in it?

Answer: Gradually, he will come to the point that he needs contact with it, without which it is difficult for him to understand how to live.

Clash Of Two Ideologies

Laitman_192Question: According to Kabbalah, what do Rome and Israel represent? There has been a constant confrontation between them throughout history?

Answer: There is a contradiction between the Creator and the created being, meaning between the Creator’s thought, His behavior, His quality of bestowal and love and the nature of the created being, which only wants to receive, to be satisfied, to enjoy, and to be fulfilled in its pride, strength, knowledge, and wealth.

Therefore, the entire essence, the whole philosophy of life, of ancient Israel, the group that emerged from Ancient Babylon and became a nation, was formed on the basis of equality, “love your neighbor as yourself,” and because of this it existed in the feeling of the upper force, in the understanding of its own development and the perspective of the ultimate purpose. All this was absolutely opposite to the barbarians.

The Romans were barbarians in terms of their attitude to life because they believed that life consists of the existence of the body and nothing more. Moreover, this philosophy was planted purposely, clearly, and soberly. It contained a lot from today’s concepts of attitude to life. At one time, the philosophy of the Romans was very popular in Nazi Germany.

The Romans indeed represented the most powerful, proud, and dominating force of egoism, which believed that conquest, suppression, and enslavement are the meaning of the existence of the people.

In Israel, however, the meaning of the existence of the people was completely different. The Romans could not agree with this. Thus, two attitudes to life, two philosophies, two foundations, two ideas, collided and war began between them, a terrible resistance.

There are contacts that are friendlier and less friendly. The Jewish people did not have such a thing that they shut themselves off from others. On the contrary, come and live like us. There was even a special place for other nations in the Temple. Today there is nothing left of this.

We are talking only about the ancient peoples, Jewish and Roman. We are talking only about the Romans, not today’s Italians. It should be noted that these are completely different nations.

Interest In The Otherworldly

543.02Question: Some states pass laws against magic and shamanism. Do you support such laws?

Answer: Yes, but the fact is that the law says nothing. We adopt so many beautiful, good laws around the world—in the UN, in the European community, and so on. And what’s the point?

The main thing is that we accept these good laws upon ourselves. I think that no one in the world can say that he is against the ten commandments of the Torah: “Thou shalt not kill,” “Honor your parents,” and so on. But who actually uses them? Where is it accepted?

A person is an egoist and he immediately perceives any rule that he hears in accordance with his egoism, and subordinates it to his ego.

Question: Why does a person have a great interest in the other world?

Answer: On one hand it is connected with us. On the other hand it has not been studied by us at all and we cannot have any clear interactions with it. Where can I find this upper world? How can I influence it? What can I even do with it? I don’t know anything about it.

But the craving for everything hidden is inherent in human nature, like a child is drawn to what is incomprehensible, to what is unknown and can give him some kind of fulfillment.

At The Origin Of People

249.01Question: Are Kabbalah, Judaism, and Jews different things?

Answer: No, they are parallel. For the Jewish people, Judaism is a common religion. Next to Judaism, there is a slightly different trend, called Kabbalah.

Kabbalah lies at the origin of the Jewish people. However, it has been in a semi-concealed state for centuries.

Question: You have been practicing Kabbalah for fifty years. During this time, have you discovered the origin of the universe? Do you understand what is happening in this world?

Answer: Yes. This is exactly what Kabbalah engages in.

Speculations Around Kabbalah

49.01Question: The word ”Kabbalah” is perceived by many as something mystical. All the people shouting that they are engaged in Kabbalah from Madonna to who knows who, are they really engaged in Kabbalah or in show business?

Answer: Of course it is show business. Kabbalah is a teaching about the revelation of the Creator to a man in this world. Anyone can practice Kabbalah. But in order to actually achieve results, one must get into it very seriously.

Question: If this is so, then why don’t all Jews without exception study Kabbalah?

Answer: Firstly, it was once forbidden to engage in it because people were not sufficiently developed. But starting from the 14th to 15th centuries, Kabbalah had already been allowed to be practiced. Great Kabbalists such as Rambam and Ari wrote about this. And in the 20th century Kabbalah was revealed to everyone so today anyone can study it.

But the fact is that there are many impostors who created show business around Kabbalah and made a lot of cheats: Kabbalah and medicine, Kabbalah and spells, Kabbalah and the pulse of de-nur, or whatever. This is nonsense! They are fairy tales for the people to keep them in line.

Question: So the people invented it for themselves?

Answer: It was not the people who invented it, but their leaders.
