Question: What is special about the Ari’s methodology compared to the Kabbalists who came before him?

Answer: Systematization. Nothing new. No subsequent Kabbalist can add anything to the work of the previous Kabbalists other than to further elaborate on the conclusions made in their discoveries and to give a greater systematic description of what may have been described with just a few phrases. That is all.

Question: Can it be said that the language also changed?

Answer: Of course. For example, if we take a physics course written 200 years ago and compare it with a current textbook, naturally there will be a difference between them. But, in principle, the essence of the information contained within them remains the same.

That is why great Kabbalists—pillars appearing once in several generations—significantly added to previous discoveries.

Question: Did the means of attaining those discoveries remain the same?

Answer: Yes, because the structure of the upper world does not change.

There are two forces in existence: the force of bestowal and the force of reception. The interaction between these two forces forms the upper system and controls our world through it. This is pure physics—a simple mechanism of control of our world.

That is why Kabbalists cannot reveal anything new, but can only explain in greater detail what was previously disclosed. After all, that which was attained by Abraham, Moses, and the Kabbalists of the First and Second Temples continues to act and to be discovered today.

There is nothing new in the upper world. It is a stable, constant system. It is just that the Kabbalists, through their attainment, add clarification for the next generation so that it may be easier to understand. In this way, in each generation the language of the explanations changes in order to make it more comprehensible for that generation. That is why Baal HaSulam (in the early 20th century) and Rabash (late 20th century) are our closest Kabbalists.

Question: Are love and truth always inseparable?

Answer: Love exists in the heart and truth in the head. Love must come from the heart; that is, I need to change all its qualities, all my desires, in order to direct them to the benefit of the loved one. This is called “an open heart.”

I measure the truth relative to the level of a person’s development: how much is beneficial for him to hear, how much can he feel and understand, and I treat him accordingly. Perhaps I will have to hide something from him or maybe even to lie if from my loving heart I see that it will be better for him this way.

A person who seeks the truth constantly checks himself for what lie he is in.

Question: Why is a person attracted to the truth? Why does it acquire value for him?

Answer: An informational gene from the upper degree begins manifesting in him. The upper force is called truth. The word “truth” consists of letters “Alef-Mem-Tav,” that is, it covers the entire alphabet from the beginning to the end; it is the general name of the Creator, who is good and does good, absolute love and bestowal outside of Himself. We need to think how to become similar to Him, even just a little. This is what is taught by the wisdom of Kabbalah.

There are people in whom such informational genes are awakening. Apparently, in their basis, they were closer to the Creator and therefore the corresponding records have remained in them. Now these genes begin to manifest in them and pull them to reveal the qualities of the Creator.

This gene is called a point in the heart, a desire to reveal the truth. No matter what it turns out, the main thing is that it is the truth. Even if I do not like it, I nevertheless aspire to it, as it is written: “Buy the truth and do not sell it.”

Question: I know many people who absolutely do not believe in God, but nevertheless are very much drawn to the truth . Why is it so?

Answer: The aspiration to truth is completely unrelated to faith. Everyone who seeks the truth is invited to come and reveal it. The wisdom of Kabbalah has nothing to do with religion, but striving for the truth is a necessary condition.

The main thing in the study of Kabbalah is not the acquisition of knowledge but the use of the wonderful property of learning (Segula), about which Baal HaSulam writes in the Introduction to the Study of the Ten Sefirot.

Through the study, we are influenced by the force that develops altruistic qualities and love of one’s neighbor in us. And with the help of these qualities, we attain the upper world, the system that controls us.

It does not depend on the volume of material studied but only on the true intention in the heart, on the effort to become bestowing and loving, which the Kabbalah sages speak about.

Question: Where in the Kabbalistic books is the force that makes such qualitative changes in a person that he reveals a new reality?

Answer: The Kabbalistic books were written by Kabbalists who reached high degrees of bestowal and love for their neighbor and describe all these spiritual actions. When we read, we want to attain what they attained, to become bestowing like them, and to reveal the Creator. We try not to be deceived by imagining the Creator somehow differently but only as the general force of bestowal and love that we want to become similar to.

We begin to change in the direction of bestowal to our neighbor, we get closer and do everything for each other because only in this way will we be able to reveal the Creator. We try to convince ourselves that in this way we are advancing and want changes to take place in us.

Every day I check: have I started treating my friends better? I look for how I can reach love of the neighbor as myself in order to come from the love of the creatures to the love of the Creator.

Question: What is the role of a teacher in studying Kabbalah?

Answer: The role of a teacher is to awaken the ability to hear what the wisdom of Kabbalah says in a person. After all, a person listens to what is said about love for the neighbor, but what is said as if falls on deaf ears. Yet, if he does not fulfill this condition, he will not reveal the Creator and all his studies will be in vain.

Question: What is the difference between a regular teacher and a Kabbalah teacher?

Answer: The Kabbalah teacher is a guide who leads a person through all of his internal and external states so that the student will eventually understand that the main thing is love for the other.

Without a teacher, it is impossible to study Kabbalah because a person in this life is guided by his egoism. Therefore, he will never be able to direct himself to correct actions, that is, to bestowal to the friend that leads to bestowal to the Creator.

Question: How does one select a Kabbalah teacher and check that he is a real one?

Answer: First of all, this is determined according to the feeling in the heart. Besides, you need to check where this person has studied—this is very important. It is not for nothing that Kabbalah has its name “Reception,” because it is transferred as a spiritual legacy from the teacher to the disciple.

It was always this way in the past and only recently we see that the mass study of Kabbalah in big groups has begun. Therefore, a teacher passes his knowledge not to one disciple, but to the entire group.

Kabbalah can be taught by someone who has received it from a recognized Kabbalist, has been engaged in it for many years, and can explain what is written in the original sources.

Question: Are there any preliminary requirements for a person to start studying Kabbalah?

Answer: It is necessary to be in a normal state in the physical, psychological, and mental sense. No other conditions and no exceptional abilities are required. All people should eventually become Kabbalists and reveal the Creator in this world.

Question: What if a person does not like to study and is not inclined to science?

Answer: It is written: “It is not the wise who learns,” but the one who, according to the inclination of the heart, aspires to know what he is living for, what the meaning of his life is. If a person cares about these questions, this indicates his readiness for spiritual development.

Question: Children always look forward to holidays. Does a Kabbalah student also perceive learning as something burdensome?

Answer: There are no awards or degrees given for the study of Kabbalah. Therefore, a person who wants to study will have to pay for it with his time and efforts. In return, he will receive spiritual satisfaction from the fact that he is engaged in the most exalted thing that can exist, not only in our world, but in all of reality in general.

Question: The Book of Creation (Sefer Yetzira) written by Abraham is a magnificent, poetic, and rigidly constructed work. It is a pleasure to read, but only occaisional thoughts are understandable. Is there a key to understand it?

Answer: For this one must study Kabbalah. For example, how is science different in every generation? It is by the fact that it develops and more and more and reveals the previously unknown. Therefore, Kabbalists in each generation, as in science, can reveal more and more.

The book of Abraham is written more smoothly than the book of Adam. Abraham, through his attainments, complemented what Adam had written and revealed Kabbalah more deeply. And all the others followed him.

Once the group of Abraham began the spiritual work, it started to attain the quality of bestowal in the connection between them, the upper quality, the Creator. If people restore good connections of mutual love, mutual responsibility, and mutual understanding between them, then to the extent that these connections are true, the Creator is revealed within them. This network of connections is called a vessel in which the upper force is revealed.

Abraham discovered the method of attaining the upper force in the connection between people. And Moses mastered this method in practice. People of his generation underwent tremendous egoistic descents that are called “the Egyptian exile.”

They plunged into a very great egoism, but at the same time, they were able to rise above it in their unification so that in the connection of two opposite tendencies, a great egoistic rejection and simultaneously a common aspiration to connection, separation and rapprochement, they created conditions in which the Creator was revealed. This was the achievement of Moses that he described in the Torah.

What Moses and his group did was a big leap forward compared to what Abraham achieved. Therefore, the generation of Moses completely rose above our world, revealed the Creator in the connection between them, and reached the highest state that has never been overcome until our time. To this day, Moses is the greatest spiritual leader of the people.

Question: If the purpose of studying the wisdom of Kabbalah is the revelation of the Creator, then with the help of which tools are we going to reveal Him? We can see microbes through a microscope and stars through a telescope, but through what can we reveal the upper force?

Answer: The upper force is revealed within my relationship with the friends I study with in the same group. To the extent that I treat others with love, care, and compassion, give them the most important place in my life, and develop within myself the force of bestowal in relation to them, I reveal a network of connections between us.

This network exists from the very beginning. We do not create it, but only build the tools for its revelation.

Our connection already exists and has always existed; we are just revealing it in order to feel the flow of the forces of bestowal and love within it that create the feeling of the Creator in us.

Question: Where is the upper force revealed: in the feeling or in the mind?

Answer: The upper force is first revealed in the feeling and then in the mind.

Studying is conducted on the basis of the Kabbalistic sources and includes two parts.

One part is dedicated to the study of the structure of the universe, the spreading of the worlds, Partzufim, Sefirot, and souls, and how everything was created before a person discovers himself here in this world existing in a biological body and feels the desire to reveal his roots, his source.

When a person makes this discovery, he begins to study it rising from the bottom upward: from himself existing today, through the friends in the ten, to the attainment of the entire ladder of spiritual degrees, that is, of all the forces descended to him, gradually recognizing them more and more.

Both parts of learning: the study of the structure of the universe and its creation from above downward, as well as the ascent back upward from the reality we find ourselves in today have only one purpose: to reveal the upper force of bestowal called the Creator.

5,777 years ago, the first person to attain the upper nature appeared in the world; he was called Adam. From him we begin to count the history of Kabbalah.

Adam wondered about the meaning of life; he began to search where everything comes from, and revealed that there is only one force in the world that moves the whole universe.

This positive force can be called the Creator, because it really creates. It has no body, no weight, no volume, nothing of what we think we have. After all, what we have and see in our world is a pure illusion that appears in our mind, in our sensations.

So, 5,777 years ago a man appeared who revealed this quality of the world. Adam is called the “first man – Adam HaRishon” because he was the first to attain the essence of the world. He told about it in the book The Secret Angel (Raziel HaMalach). This small book of only a few pages has reached our time.

The next book about Kabbalah was written by Abraham in ancient Babylon. But between Adam and Abraham there were 20 generations of Kabbalists who attained the spiritual world by means of the methodology revealed by Adam that he then handed over to his disciples. Over the centuries, this knowledge has been gradually supplemented. So there was the method of attaining the upper world.

Question: If the Creator is one, then why does His reflection manifest itself in our world through a multitude of different forces?

Answer: There are two forces in the universe: the force of the Creator—the force of bestowal and the force He created opposite to Him called the created being—the force of reception.

All the rest are all kinds of emanations, modifications of these two forces (plus and minus). Other than that, nothing else exists.

Question: In the articles of Rabash it is written that the stretching of time along the spiritual root is related to the Klipot (impure forces). What is the stretching of time?

Answer: Actually, time does not exist. Everything that we are doing in the present moment is preprogrammed and already known.

Moreover, just as there is movement in a straight line from past to future, there is also movement in the reverse direction from future to past.

In principle, we can change the past from the future, just as in our world we are used to changing the future from the past. These are interconnected and interchangeable processes flowing in both directions.

In physics, for example, if we choose to measure either the electron or the wave, then by this choice we predetermine if it is as an electron or a wave.

In other words, I choose a measurement instrument now, and what I am planning to study already knows, from the past, what I am thinking and rearranges itself. And then I measure it either as a wave or as a discrete particle. But in Kabbalah, this happens in action.

Remark: In Kabbalah courses there is a section about the history of Kabbalah, which examines how the first Kabbalist Adam emerged, how he was followed by 20 generations until Abraham, what Abraham contributed to the development of Kabbalah, etc.

One way or another, we cannot get away from the fact that there is a timeline, eras, a certain sequence in transferring of the method. Anyhow, we appeal to world history.

Answer: The point is that no one, not even scientists, can explain all of Einstein’s physical experiments with time flowing backward. Scientists are faced with concepts that imply that time does not exist or flows backward, that space does not exist, etc.

Yet, we are in a more advantageous position relative to everyone else because we can offer people the practice of Kabbalah: to begin to expand your consciousness by including yourself in a ten, and then you will feel that the world is folded inside yourself many times over.

With your complex consciousness, you will be able to find the right view of the world. You will see that this world is inside you. Outside, there is only an imaginary field, a world of illusion. As a matter of fact, it does not exist. Everything exists only within a desire. Everything happens only in Malchut.

Question: What exactly does one study in the Kabbalah lessons in order to reach the revelation of the upper world, the network of forces acting on us?

Answer: In essence, it is one force that is divided into many forces that are opposite to each other. We need to awaken its revelation through the study that is conducted in a group of ten people who are building increasingly friendly relationships between themselves. For this purpose, the preparation before the lesson is conducted.

Through our connection and penetration into the study material, we intend not just to learn what is written in the book, but to receive from it a special inspiration, a special force that will connect us even more strongly. As a result, we begin to reveal the network of forces acting on us and we understand that it does not exist somewhere outside, but between us.

The general force of connection called the Creator is manifested within our connection with each other, as it is written: “You shall see your world in your lifetime.” Therefore, the wisdom of Kabbalah is the method of revealing the Creator to the creatures in this world.

All this we achieve through connection in the ten, which is a means of achieving the purpose of creation. The first stage is to reach the love of the creatures, and this is exactly what is being realized in the ten. Then, from the love of the creatures we come to the love of the Creator, the general force governing the system of nature.

Question: So, what is the central subject of the study?

Answer: In the Kabbalah lessons, we study the very same network that connects us with each other that is called the system of the upper worlds. ”Olam – world” comes from the word “Alama – concealment”, that is, a concealed system.

Gradually, we begin to reveal it. Inside these worlds, this network of forces, we discover the connection that exists between us in the ten. This connection is called our soul, or Shechina, in which the Creator (Shochen) is revealed.

Question: Is the purpose of studying Kabbalah to feel the concealed reality or to understand it?

Answer: The purpose of studying is to feel the upper reality. Once we begin to feel it, we must understand it based on the sensation.

Question: What exactly do we want to feel?

Answer: We want to feel a special mutual connection between us that is constantly growing in quality until it reaches the degree of love. Inside this connection we begin to reveal a special force acting in it, which is called the Creator.
