Question: People today enjoy an affluent life, and the economy is based on this. A person sets his corporeal development as a goal. He dreams of buying a new car and a new house.

Will a person receive pleasure not from material acquisitions, but from social ties when he reaches the new level of human development?

Answer: A person receives pleasure from attaining the upper force.

A consumerist society will come to a complete dead end, and when despair is felt from this, we will have to explain that there is a solution, but it is a new education and teaching for everyone.

Baal HaSulam said that the major mistake of the Russian revolutionists at the beginning of the last century was that they didn’t act for the Creator’s sake.

This is actually what stood in their way of building the right state.

They didn’t take into account the general system that requires our unity in order to attain an upper spiritual level. They did not set a sublime goal for themselves that would provide a solution for corporeal life and for attainting eternal existence.

There is no solution in our corporeal life. We can only close our eyes and ignore the fact that we are doomed to die as if we didn’t worry about what the future brings. However, it is clear to everyone that man is not eternal.

All of society’s current problems stem from the fact that people have no answer for the meaning of life and what we are living for. This is the reason that terrorist organizations and religious wars are growing stronger, thus bringing the world to the brink of a new world war.

Where does all that stem from, while there is such material affluence in the modern world? The reason is that people don’t understand what they are living for, and so there is such confusion in the world.

However, there is a solution, and the wisdom of Kabbalah offers it to us. It isn’t about the simple correction of the economy in order to provide everyone the products they desire, but actually it gives a person much more.

The economy is only meant for providing what we need in order to exist, but the main goal is to ascend to a higher level.

I don’t want my children to live the same life I live, to grow old and die like me, and for my grandchildren and the future generations to have the same fate too. I want to give them more than this mortal existence!

Everything starts with education and information, even including the new economy. But economists want to keep the old method and continue the same life as before without paying attention to changes in people. But you cannot fix the economic crisis like that.

First of all, it is necessary to educate people to prepare them for the new stage of human development, life in a harmonious society in which each one rationally gets what is necessary. We need to agree to sustainable consumption and then the entire society will achieve balance.

Economic development is not in that there are 500 kinds of cheese today, and tomorrow another two hundred will be added. Our lives must be rational, and rational consumption means that we don’t need anything that is superfluous, and we want to examine ourselves, the society, our families and all of our lives from the point of view of maximum benefit.

But this does not mean that it is necessary to extract all of the nature’s resources and obligate a person to work many hours per day until old age ruining his entire life.

A person needs spare time and time for educating his or her children. Small children shouldn’t be thrown into child care from seven in the morning until seven in the evening without seeing their parents, and when the parents take them home in the evening, they no longer have the energy or time to be with them.

Question: But people don’t feel miserable. Statistical surveys show that most people are satisfied with their lives.

Answer: People haven’t learned anything else and are unfamiliar with any other life. They are confused. People live the way that they are taught, and they get nice, statistical graphs. However, this is talking about the essence of life.

The world is entering a crisis that will bring absolute disorder, and the economists cannot continue to work by the old methods. Just as a hundred years ago, people worked ten to twelve hours per day, they do so today as well, even with all the technological advancement.

So, how can the person be happy with a life like this? In the past, he just worked with machines in factories and now he works with computers, but in principle nothing has changed. He was at work all day and didn’t see the children, but at least his wife didn’t work and stayed at home with the children. But today even women are forced to work all day.

Question: For the modern person, work takes the most important place in life. If we ask a young woman who her husband is, she immediately answers and says his name and his position at work. Each one evaluates himself according to his job and salary.

Answer: This is the result of the influence of the environment on the person, from Hollywood movies, commercials, and all media. A person begins to look at life through glasses like these. We never have educated people. We only give people toys, mobile phones and computers, and we turn them into consumers to help the development of the economy. People only work and buy, work and buy, and in this way they help someone get rich.

Question: But people don’t know what rational consumption is.

Answer: So, first and foremost, we require education and information. Nothing else needs to be changed. Just educate people, and first and foremost, the economists.

The only action that a person or a group of people or humanity can implement is to aspire to the goal of creation, to consolidation into a complete fusion of our desires and thoughts.

We are being carried towards this situation against our will as if we were in an ocean current, with the help of an accompanying demonstration of opposite states, crises, and our lack of accommodation to consolidation. Ahead of us is the turbulence of world war or sobriety.

My Comment: Nature’s laws lead mankind to unite under the pressure of sufferings. Nature (the Creator) manages us by its laws, not the strong European states. The only thing we can do is to yearn for unity ourselves (the wisdom of Kabbalah tells us how to do it). Otherwise, nature will force us to unite under pressure up to sufferings, crises, and actual wars.

Question: In an article by Baal HaSulam, he writes about the new economy of the corrected society. In what way does it differ from the economy of today that has entered a deep crisis, and what must be the transitional stages on the way to achieving it?

Answer: The main difference between the economy of today and the economy of the future is that the future economy is directed toward the participation of the simple and common man that has received a new special education through which he will understand what kind of a system he is in. This is a completely new approach.

First of all, the person needs to go through a preparation to learn the structure of human society, and then see himself as a part of it.

He will understand in what form he must communicate with everyone else, in what manner society provides itself with what it needs, what its needs are, how the society fulfills them, and what the level of optimal fulfillment is that is satisfactory for every citizen and every nation, and what kinds of goals the society places before him in the social and personal realm in culture and in education.

A person must know all of this because we are tightly linked with each other. Lack of understanding divides us into dozens of factions and all kinds of movements, and we only interfere with each other.

So, the top priority is not in a change to a new economy, but the creation of a system of education that encompasses the entire nation and even the world. A person begins to acquire a clear understanding of his place in society and the universal mutual connection.

He will not study it as an abstract theory as in a university; he will experience it and try it practically on himself in society. Everyone will participate in exercises like these.

Only after a person understands where he is, how much everyone depends upon each other, and toward what goal humanity is approaching, will it move toward a transition to a new economy, not before then.

These changes cannot be imposed from above in the form of directives. A person must participate in them himself. He must consent to be satisfied with an optimal standard of living. An optimal level makes it possible for a person to live without feeling a deficiency and need for something, but for one, it will not be more or less than it is for others. After all, our bodies require the same thing.

It could be that I will be satisfied with one chicken wing, whereas you need an entire chicken, but the principle is that everyone receives according to the beastly needs of his body. In addition, it is necessary to ensure every human need: education, culture, and leisure. That is, everyone requires fulfillment according to his material and social deficiencies, and there is still the intellectual deficiency that a person fulfills through learning, searching for an answer to the question of the meaning of existence and the attainment of the goal of life that goes beyond the boundaries of physical existence.

The main thing is to understand that there are several levels of existence. One level is corporeal—meaning material, beastly, where each one gets what is good for his body, family, and lifestyle: a house with all of its contents, normal conditions—but not more.

Everyone needs to agree that this is enough for us, and it is not necessary to create an artificial deficiency that confuses everyone and convinces them that they must buy a new product so that someone will get rich. Only normal things will remain, things that are beneficial for our health, and if it seems that it is possible to do something that is even better and healthier for the body, then we do this.

This means that everything must be rational and not for profit which is to blame for our having created hundreds of different kinds of thousands of products. The economy of the future will be reasonable.

Question: But many can say that the economy of today is reasonable because it is based on supply and demand. If there is a demand, then a product is created. If there were no demand for hundreds of kinds of cheese, then it would not be produced.

Answer: The demand is created artificially. We want the economy to serve our lives and not our lives to serve the economy.

The bottom line is that the two categories of the population receive a new profit, a new fulfillment. They reveal the upper force, life on the human degree, Adam, who is similar to the upper force. They feel that they acquire a new world that is above life and death, above poverty and wealth.

This fulfills a person, replacing former pleasures. Now, he is warmed up not by money, bank accounts, sales, and factories, newspapers and steamships. All this gives only indirect, ever-fading pleasure. Here, a person receives fulfillment directly.

Indeed, our corporeal nature is the desire to enjoy. Its true fulfillment is what we define by the term “Light.” So, the integral method allows us to fill this desire not by money, honor, and power, but by the Light, as such.

There is no replacement. Compared to this, everything else is a substitute. Well-established social relations will allow us to receive natural fulfillment that is obviously more efficient and more attractive than its substitutes, which are generally accepted today.

Question: How can a person get this Light?

Answer: He must be properly connected with others. Then, together they create a single system corresponding to the unity of the Light. The properties of this system in which a person exists coincide with the property of the Light, fulfillment, and then a person feels fulfillment in himself.

Thus, our unity is just a condition on which we receive eternal, perfect fulfillment, and due to it, we reveal life at a higher degree.

Question: So, ultimately, everything depends on our relationships?

Answer: Of course. The Light shows me that we are all in the same system. The formation of the current conditions in it does not depend on us, but now on the basis of the current situation, we must come to a decision.

I make calculations not with what used to be, but with what will be. We need to form such a connection between each other so that together we build a new society. What for? To reveal eternal life in it.

In conclusion, hatred of the rich will end when they, together with the poor, act for the benefit of a unified, integrated society.

My Comment: But the world doesn’t need workers but the opposite; there is an excess of workers that society doesn’t know what to do with all of those on unemployment benefits!

This could result in wars, through which society will get rid of the masses that have no salaried income, or society will move on to a rational state of existence, where it manufactures only what is necessary for everyone’s needs, and free time and energy is directed toward the realization of the unity and connection between people. There is no other solution!
