Kindness Can Do Miracles

283.01Comment: On TV program on the topic of judicial proceedings and issues of punishment, one participant demanded even tougher sanctions. But his opponent noted that we have already exhausted all the possibilities that we have and found it does not help at all.

Obviously, we do not take into account some kind of human component, human nature, we are doing something wrong if no increase in punishment can lead to anything.

My Response: Kindness can do miracles, it is a great force. Relying on force and pressure leads only to Nazism, fascism, dictatorship, and violence, and as a result to the degeneration of society. It turns into a society of wild animals.

Not even just animals, but wild animals.

I do not imagine any other future for such a society besides its degradation, up to self-destruction.

Why Are Diamonds So Valuable?

563Question: Why are diamonds so valuable?

Answer: Because they mattered to the mighty of this world. Suppose, if I am in some country and do not know what will happen to me in the next moment, then I naturally try to turn what I have acquired into a form that I can easily hide and take with me.

In principle, gold, silver, and diamonds exist as the equivalent of human effort. There must be such an equivalent. I need to know how much I earn. It has always been evaluated.

Previously, for example, I had to know how many camels, sheep, horses, or hectares of land I need to give for something. How can I evaluate? It is the equivalent of labor.

As soon as a person—a blacksmith, a tailor, and so on—broke away from his own land, he needed exchange, commodity relations arose, and immediately an equivalent must appear.

Coming Back to Each Other

747.01Question: For the last 2,000 years, Jews have been in exile caused by unfounded hatred. The State of Israel was founded only 74 years ago.

Throughout all this time, sages wrote thousands of books, and in all of them it is said that only the unity of the people, love for one’s neighbor, and mutual solidarity will save us. This will give us the opportunity to return to the Land of Israel. Yet, although we have not reached unity, we have returned here. For what purpose did the upper force bring us back?

Answer: We were brought back with the goal that we are obliged as a people, not yet on a spiritual basis of unity, but at least on a geographical and historical basis, to begin to unite from below upward, that is, from purely corporeal definitions to more exalted, spiritual ones.

Thus, we must reach a state where we unite spiritually, and in accordance with this, the upper force will be revealed within us.

According to Baal HaSulam, we were given this land as collateral. All this is for us to begin to return to each other, to our spiritual roots.

Switching the Channels of Your Own Perception

423.02Question: Man’s perception is divided into two parts: himself and the rest of the world. His whole life is built upon these two planes, which are separated from each other. Why?

Answer: Because we are created in the egoistic desire of “I”: I desire, I want, I exist. If this desire was not in us, we would not feel either ourselves or the world at all  in the form in which we exist.

The problem is how to compare ourselves and the world around us so that it is clear to us what we do perceive correctly, what we do not see in the correct way, how one can bring oneself closer to the correct perception of the world, and how to change the perception of the world inside you.

We cannot change the world, but we can change ourselves, our perception so that the world would seem to us the way we want. I can, like on a computer or TV, change channels and see a different world.

Question: Are the perception of the external world and of oneself opposite things?

Answer: It depends on the way you calibrate yourself.

Question: Is the purpose of this separation to connect everything back?

Answer: Yes. In fact, the world is not a multi-channeled, not multi-phased, but we inside ourselves, we are. Therefore, it all depends on how I switch myself, what exactly I want to see in the world, how much I can bring myself closer to the correct picture of the world, how much I can separate the wheat from the chaff, that is, separate the true, correct perception from the false, distorted one, and exist in this way.

Incomprehensible Questions

507.04Who is the Creator that I should listen to Him?” is a question in the mind. And the second question: “Why do you need this work for the Creator?” is a question in the heart.

But neither of these can be answered. It is just important for a person. He says that this is the preparation of desires for the mind and for the heart, which is in him, and due to it he moves forward.

Question: So when an altruistic force aimed at the need to unite, to love one’s neighbor, etc. manifests in a person,  then he asks the question: “Why do I need this? What is the benefit for me?”

Answer: There is no answer to that. After all, if we speak from the correct understanding, then there is no benefit to a person whether he is in this world or in the spiritual one, since from the point of view of egoism he cannot evaluate both worlds.

We always subconsciously feel: “After all, this is the future world, the upper world, the light, the Creator, and this is our world.

What is special about it? What do I risk when I lose it? What is there in it that I still do not know? I do not want it anyway.” But that is not how the question should be asked. The right question arises in people when they are seriously engaged in working on themselves.

And if you just believe in God, as it usually happens, then these questions are really incomprehensible. People study the Torah, touch it slightly, and everything seems to be clear to them: I have to do certain actions and due to this I will receive the future world.

From the Egyptians

555Question: It is written in the Torah that the sons of Israel took all the Kelim (vessels) from the Egyptians. For what?

Answer: They took from the Egyptians, from their past states, all the intentions and desires, everything, that relate to egoistic use in order to correct them into the quality of bestowal and love.

We can say that they took the experience of the past work in egoism. Meaning, everything that we go through in our world, we then use all those states with the right intention.

Questions about Spiritual Growth

565.01Question: What is “Passover“?

Answer: Passover, “Pesach,” is from the word “stepping over.” This means stepping from the world in which egoism operates to the world in which altruism operates.

Question: On the eve of Passover four questions are asked. What are these questions?

Answer: These four questions relate to the four degrees of egoism that exist in every person. They symbolize our desire to get out from under the force of general egoism, which is divided into four degrees.

Therefore, the youngest in the family, the smallest, the one who is just beginning to grow, asks questions about his spiritual growth. This is the allegory.

Moses—The Point that Pulls Out of Egoism

186Question: Who is Moses? What is this force in a person?

Answer: Moses comes from the word “Limshoch – to pull out.” According to the legend, the daughter of Pharaoh Batya found him in the water and pulled him out.

Moses, who grew up in the house of Pharaoh, matured and broke away from them and became the leader of the tribe, which in ancient Egypt was called the Jews. The whole being of Moses, his whole mission, was to educate and lead this group that in the future will be called the people of Israel.

According to Kabbalah, inside each person there is an inner point that pulls him from egoistic into altruistic life, from the fact that he exists by himself like a small animal and thinks only about filling his temporary egoistic desires for food, sex, family and knowledge, i.e., everything that makes up our world.

And the desire called Moses pushes him to the next attainment—reaching the root of his existence. This is the manifestation of the point of Moses, from the word “Limshoch –to pull out” from the sensation of our world into the sensation of the spiritual world.
