Conform to the Nature of the Creator

239Question: Can we say that each subsequent spiritual state is a reward? And that it all depends only on our perception? Do good or bad feelings not matter, but what matters is realizing this state through faith?

Answer: No, we should always examine what is before us and how it can divide into good and bad actions.

Then, we must discern which actions would appear pleasing in the eyes of the Creator, align with His nature, what He does with His creations, and how it might be opposite to it.

We need to learn how to assess this, decide what to do, and thank the Creator for correcting us in this way along the path.

A person who feels the governance of the upper force over themselves, sees the reward in acting correctly without making mistakes and that his or her actions benefit the world and the Creator.

How Can We Come to the State of the Creator?

232.06Question: Our goal is to reach the state of the Creator. The Creator is love. But what happens to hatred?

Answer: Hatred is necessary to create love above it. We cannot come to the feeling of love if hatred does not lie at its foundation. In nature, there are only two mutual feelings. You cannot say there is light without darkness or a positive without a negative.

We are accustomed to the idea that the opposite exists automatically in our world. But in the spiritual world, it is not automatic. Even in our world, take any system that we build, can you perform an action without a counteraction? You cannot, whether in mechanics, electronics, or anything else. The same applies to spirituality. There, these are fundamental laws: the positive force is the Creator, and the negative force, what He created, is the creation. And that is all there is.

Therefore, when you say, “The Creator’s attribute is to give,” I do not know what “giving” is by itself. It is the Creator; I do not feel Him. I can only know Him if this attribute is clothed within me. And since I am the property of receiving, how can I reveal the Creator in the attribute of receiving?

That is what the science of Kabbalah deals with, the science of revealing the Creator. It teaches that you must take control of your property of receiving, make a restriction, not consider it as the force with which you work, but only as the force over which you work, and start creating the attribute of giving above the attribute of receiving.

Otherwise, you will not be able to do anything because the attribute of giving is created in you as a reflection, the opposite of your attribute of receiving. Therefore, we build the Creator within ourselves, create a likeness of Him. Out of what? Out of our egoism when we make on it a restriction (Tzimtzum), screen (Masach), and reflected light (Ohr Hozer), and thus create a reflection of the Creator, like in a mirror that is the reflected light.

Questions about Spiritual Work—161

281.02Question: What should replace shame?

Answer: Gratitude.

Question: Is the awe before the teacher similar to the awe before the Creator?

Answer: No, there is no awe before the teacher, before the Creator yes, because everything is in His hands.

Question: How can we check if we are approaching the purification of our collective Hisaron from impurities toward a pure desire to bring contentment to the Creator?

Answer: To the extent that you invest such feelings in your prayer, that is how it happens.

Question: It seems the Creator is cultivating beings similar to Himself here on earth. Can we say that we all must become creators according to the upper plan?

Answer: No, that is incorrect. We simply need to reach a state where we understand and feel Him as one person understands and feels another.

The Emergence of Egoistic Desires

548.01The thing is that we have to know that all of the souls extend from the soul of Adam HaRishon, for after he sinned in the sin of the Tree of Knowledge, his soul divided into 600,000 souls. This means that the one light that Adam HaRishon had, which The Zohar called Zihara Ila’a [upper brightness], which he had in the Garden of Eden at once, spreads into numerous pieces (Rabash, Article 10, “What is the Degree One should Achieve In Order not to Have to Reincarnate”).

Thus, we now have discrete states, separated and distanced from each other, even in some aspects opposite to one another. Any state different from another is in some way its opposite. These uncombined, elementary, fundamental states do not resemble each other in any way although they are all fragments of one single desire—Zeir Anpin on the level of Keter of the world of Atzilut. This state is divided into 600,000 parts.

The shattering occurs on a spiritual level even before we begin talking about our existence and sensations.

Following this, the descent of the shattered particles into our world happened, which means a gradual spiritual coarsening and distancing from the quality of bestowal and the quality of connection between them. Naturally, the light within each particle diminishes more and more, and each particle seemingly falls lower and lower in its state until it reaches the lowest state—a coarsening of desire to the point of becoming egoistic, manifesting increasingly in the desire of Adam.

His inner part, his inner nature, which initially does not reveal itself, seems to shed its outer shells that came from the Creator, and his own structure, his own desire, his own nature—the desire to receive only for oneself that is, an absolutely egoistic desire enclosed within itself—becomes more and more apparent. This desire is the human being in our world.

See Your Friends as Big

528.01Question: If I just belittle myself before my friends, then pride may cling to me. Is it correct instead to annul oneself to raise your friends in your eyes?

Answer: How will you raise them if you do not have the strength?

Question: I should ask the Creator to give me the importance of the friends.

Answer: Okay, but you will not raise them by that. Try it. See for yourself how it works.

Question: Is what is essential, not the action, but why I do it? I should want to see my friends big and not myself small?

Answer: Yes, indeed.

A Gift of Torah

527.11Question: How does a person become one of those who love the Creator before He gives him or her the gift of Torah? After all, our efforts are all egoistic and not for the sake of the upper. How can I really show Him my love before it manifests itself in my heart?

Answer: The Creator sees in advance which way a person is going and how he is trying to develop the properties of bestowal in himself and thereby get closer to Him.

Question: Can I say that if I have a strong desire for the Creator, it is already a gift? He seems to be ahead of me giving me a gift of strength so I can make an effort.

Answer: Yes.

Question: How do we pay back the Creator for His attention to us?

Answer: By paying attention to Him through attention to friends.

Ask the Creator

936Question: How did the sages come to the conclusion based on the actions of the Creator that He wants to delight the creation? After all, we do not see this in the world.

How did they know that it is necessary to unite in order to feel it like a radio wave?

Answer: They received this from the Creator when they raised a prayer to Him and asked what they should do to be closer to Him so that He would be pleased with them. And He answered them. Try to connect with each other in the same way and ask Him, and He will answer you.

Think about your friends, connect them together and raise MAN from them to the Creator. In this MAN (request, prayer) include a request that He gathers you and gives you the opportunity to receive the answer from Him.

Question: What does our ability to catch this wave give to the world?

Answer: It brings our world closer to the Creator who wants to see you fully corrected.

The Most Democratic Principle

284Question: In the article “The Last Generation” Baal HaSulam made a critical analysis of communism as a social system.

He writes that some people will reach spiritual attainment, that is, will have altruistic qualities and this will be manifested as “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”

You say that this is exactly what corresponds to the biblical principle of “love your neighbor.” Why?

Answer: Because the principle of “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need” is the most democratic and best principle. If we implement it, then no one will have to work beyond their strength.

Everyone will be ready to work and give all the results of their labor to the state. In general, everyone should agree with this. If this happens, then such a state will exist in the best possible form.
