Correction After Exile

laitman_747_03Torah, “Deuteronomy,” 4:25 – 4:26: When you beget children and children’s children, and you will be long established in the land, and you become corrupt and make a graven image, the likeness of anything, and do evil in the eyes of the Lord your God, to provoke Him to anger, I call as witness against you this very day the heaven and the earth, that you will speedily and utterly perish from the land to which you cross the Jordan, to possess; you will not prolong your days upon it, but will be utterly destroyed.

And so it happened. Because the nation is the group of people aiming toward the Creator and then this desire disappeared.

Generations change, meaning that more egoistic layers are revealed in a person and so he can’t remain in a state of close cooperation with others as one man with one heart.

Mainly it is revealed at the entrance to the land of Israel, because it is especially egoistic from the point of view of correction when you constantly climb your egoistic desires.

They constitute huge hard layers, the third and fourth levels of egoism that are impossible to withstand. On the one hand, they tear you apart by tempting with such cunning pleasures that you don’t have the strength to refuse.

And as soon as you move away from them darkness, depression, and blackness descend on you. Rising above such desires is only possible by being in mutual guarantee (Arvut), in connection, and by fervently praying to the Creator to give you the Light of correction.

Therefore the Creator tells Moses that his children and even more so his grandchildren “will become corrupt and make a graven image, the likeness of anything.”

Worshipping idols means worshipping our egoistic desires. It is unavoidable! “All the same, you will come to it and will become idol worshippers!”—the Creator predicts.

The future of humanity is inevitable. It was known to all Kabbalists, starting with Adam, Abraham, and further, because the real Kabbalists see to the end of creation, i.e., to the end of 6,000 years. The only thing they cannot foresee is the way the current stage, before the end of correction, will be passed, whether it will be by a good or bad way, because during the last stage of correction our freedom of will is revealed.

Comment: Thus, the Creator predicts to the people that they will disappear completely from the nation to which they crossover.

Answer: The people of Israel must go into exile. No wonder the greatest Kabbalist of that time Rabbi Akiva rejoiced at the destruction of the Temple and the fall of the Jews from the spiritual degree, because he saw that the prophecy came true, and the exile would be followed by correction.

Difficult Path To The Goal

Laitman_514_04Question: What does the prohibition to not worship or serve idols mean for the average person?

Answer: Not to worship idols means not to perceive our current existence as the true state.

The Torah doesn’t refer to ordinary people, but to the person who wants to attain the Creator and reveal the world.

Question: The Torah was written long ago, several thousand years ago, but it talks about things that humanity underwent and continues to go through. It is written, “And lest you lift up your eyes to heaven, and see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, which the Lord your God assigned to all peoples under the entire heaven, and be drawn away to prostrate yourselves before them and worship them.” It is as if the Torah is appealing, “Stop praying to idols finally!”

Answer: The thing is that there are no forces in nature other than the one force that controls absolutely everything. There is no good and evil, no various opposite qualities and influences. All of it is just a manifestation of one force, one thought, one intention, and one goal.

If I step aside, even a millimeter, from the goal, assuming that I myself think, that i wish, then it is called a sin.

A person must create an environment for himself that will hold him in the direction toward the oneness of the Creator. If he observes this rule, he never will make mistakes in life and will move forward correctly. The Creator develops him by constantly sending him various doubts and showing him that, allegedly, there exist sources of influence other than Him.

A person, despite all apparent disturbances and images, must determine the Creator behind them all and remember that there is only one force, one intention, and one goal that drives him.

If a person studies Kabbalah and is in a correct group that always supports him in this approach to reality, then there is no problem. He gradually finds out exactly what is happening around him.

At the same time, he is washed by the broader society that keeps rinsing him, pouring buckets of dirt on him. How else is it possible to shake a person? He tunes himself to infinite love for the Creator as the source of everything that happens to him, annulling his egoism, the barrier that separates him from the Creator.

Question: Do you think that buckets of dirt help a person cut himself off from his “I?”

Answer: You see in it a great salvation because, otherwise, you would not be able to tear yourself away from the common masses and your egoism.

How else does one break away from egoism? It is only when everyone around you begins to blame and reprove you. This is exactly the way that the upper force influences a person. The Creator prepares the basis for His further revelation in advance. Without this, it is impossible to draw closer to Him.

On the contrary, I must wish to be washed. In the same way that we clean a fish before we cook it, both inside and out, this is the way I want to be treated.

If a person understands the ultimate goal lies in this, then he agrees to everything and thanks the Creator for the test because, for him, this is not an evil, but a redemption.

Question: But can you imagine what would happen if the entire world with its understanding of the truth suddenly began to reveal something!

Answer: Therefore, we must raise our technique, and along with what is revealed, explain to people what it means to move toward the goal.

The Creator does nothing in vain. I and thousands of our students all around the world must accept all of these conditions that we are given from above. Let’s say that we will be humiliated, insulted, and slandered.

So what? I am not interested in this. I am interested in only one thing: whether we are connected with each other, whether we are going further with the conditions that the Creator gave us, and whether we perceive evil as an absolute good.

A person must bless for the evil as well as for the good because evil is just a manifestation of the egoism that he needs to correct. During the rise to the next degree egoism will be revealed more and more, and there’s nothing you can do about it, but you must rise to the next degree through using this egoism! The difference between the degrees is the next threshold of the level of egoism that we need to overcome.

Can you imagine how much strength we need to receive from the Creator in order to be connected between ourselves and climb to the goal despite everything?

Imagine what a joy it is when you are given such “fires of the Inquisition,” and at the same time the opportunity to rise above them!

A person is not given obstacles greater than what he can overcome. We finally have reached these obstacles, and we will have them now! We learn that spiritual ascent is only above the manifestations of egoism. First, we are given a period of time when we study, unite, and learn the wisdom of Kabbalah. But once we are ready, we immediately are given a serious problem.

Question: So, if a serious problem arises, does it mean that we are beginning to explore the next degree?

Answer: Of course, undoubtedly, and we don’t have a right to fall. We must master it because all of humanity is behind us, and we are responsible for them. There can be no retreat. This is the game the Creator is playing with us!

Moreover, in our time, this is the fate of the entire universe, of all of the worlds, of all of the souls who brought us the wisdom of Kabbalah, and now we are responsible for raising the souls of all of humanity above all of the great Kabbalists.

How To Gain Knowledge About The Spiritual Worlds?

Desire That Revives A Person

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Does a spiritual record of the path we passed remain in us?

Answer: We retain absolutely all spiritual information of everything we passed through during history. Now, we must gradually summon its manifestation in us and implement it.

Therefore, the dissemination of Kabbalistic knowledge should be directed first toward those who feel directly concerned about it.

Question: Do you think of the ten lost tribes whose location is unknown at this point?

Answer: No, this is none of my business. My job is to deal with those who wish to go forward. Gradually, we scatter the seeds of knowledge to all those who have a desire to learn about the spiritual world, to achieve the purpose of his life, to “enter the land of Israel,” and to realize it now in this life.

Question: Is it possible to say that your non-Jewish students somehow relate to the lost tribes?

Answer: At the moment, it doesn’t matter. After all, if a person has the desire, then he is ready to attain the spiritual world.

People from all around the world come to our congresses, they spend money and time just to be with us for a few days. How strong and high this desire is! We must respect, love, and worship them, not the external shell, but the desire toward the Creator that He revives in them.

Question: When you say that you love a person, does it mean that you love just this point in him?

Answer: Just this! Nothing else! All of the rest is an animal that lives today and dies tomorrow.

Question: Do you have a prayer that this desire will continue to live in a person, that he would manage to hold onto it with his teeth?

Answer: I keep a constant prayer for all the students as much as is possible from my side. The rest depends on them. Freedom of choice is given to each one, and each one must realize it. We hope that it will happen with all in the world.

New Desires Of A New Generation

laitman_933Torah” “Deuteronomy,” 4:20: But the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron crucible, out of Egypt, to be a people of His possession, as of this day.

At first Moses leaves Egypt alone and later returns for the people. However he is afraid of the Pharaoh; he is really shaking in front of him!

And the Creator tells him, “Come to the Pharaoh, for I hardened his heart.” Meaning the game is now straightforward and with an open hand, “Don’t be afraid, come! I prepared the Pharaoh to ‘devour’ you, but I am with you!”

Although Moses is afraid of the Pharaoh, he understands that the people are behind him. Therefore he doesn’t ask for his release but says, “Let my people go!”

Question: Why does Moses, after he led the people out of Egypt, tell them again what they went through and what lies ahead?

Answer: Because the previous generation was replaced by a new one, and he has to repeat everything to the new generation that was born in the desert. Repetition is an implementation of the spiritual method on the next degree, at the entrance to the land of Israel.

Question: But the new generation didn’t go through the same things as the old one did?

Answer: The new generation is the same as the previous one, but all the egoistic desires they carried out of Egypt died in them and were replaced by desires of the desert “to be in the quality of bestowal.” And now they are entering the quality of love, reclaiming the land of Israel.

They don’t need to go through the same states again. They just need to know what they went through and what they have in them. Moses reveals in them all the qualities that they need in the battle for the conquest and exploitation of their desires so that they are not just neutral, but work for the quality of bestowal. Then they will be called “Yashar Kel” – “straight to the Creator.”

Only Moses can do it, Joshua can’t. Joshua will manage the process itself.

Create A New World

laitman_572_03Torah, Deuteronomy 4:15 – 4:19: And you shall watch yourselves very well, for you did not see any image on the day that the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire. Lest you become corrupt and make for yourselves a graven image, the representation of any form, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the heaven, the likeness of anything that crawls on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters, beneath the earth. And lest you lift up your eyes to heaven, and see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, which the Lord your God assigned to all peoples under the entire heaven, and be drawn away to prostrate yourselves before them and worship them.

Question: How can we not see the images and statues that surround us?

Answer: There is no Creator and no upper world. We ourselves need to create them within us. This is very difficult to understand, but the wisdom of Kabbalah explains how we perceive the existing reality, how we depict it in our qualities, and how we make sure that, in fact, there is no me, not my body nor surroundings.

There is only a desire within which we perceive everything. All subjects and events are images drawn in my desire! There is nothing else! However, it seems to me that they exist in reality because such are my qualities.

Now, I need to understand why I perceive this world that way, how I rise above it and create a new world within myself from my new qualities. I create it by changing my qualities and beginning to exist in both worlds, in the upper world and in this world at the lowest degree of my qualities where I have idols that I worship.

The matter of our world is given to us in sensations, and then what? Apparently, there is another kind of matter that can come into my sensations, and I will be able to control it.

Therefore, I create new worlds with five degrees in each of them, five degrees of the world of Assiya, then of the worlds of Yetzira, Beria, Atzilut, and Adam Kadmon. I ascend 125 degrees to the world of infinity that includes in itself absolutely all of the worlds and everything that exists because I fully reveal my desire in which I previously used to feel something in a very limited form and  called it the world. “World” (Olam) comes from the word “concealment” (Alama).

Now, I move to the world of infinity where everything is revealed fully because all previous worlds become included in it and dissolve there. There, I feel just a white light that is called the Creator, and together with Him, I am on the level of absolute knowledge and a sense of infinity. This is the state we must reach.

Doubts At Mount Sinai

laitman_740_03Torah, Deuteronomy 4:11 – 4:14: And you approached and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire up to the midst of the heavens, with darkness, a cloud, and opaque darkness. The Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of the words, but saw no image, just a voice. And He told you His covenant, which He commanded you to do, the Ten Commandments, and He inscribed them on two stone tablets and the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, so that you should do them in the land to which you are crossing to possess.

The Creator speaks to the people out of the flaming mountain that symbolizes a huge, burning egoism. He commands them to overcome this egoism in order to unite with Him and to carve the tablets of the Covenant on their hearts and cut Ten Commandments on their flesh, meaning ten qualities in which they will adhere to the Creator. Then, their stony hearts will turn into a living ones.

Only under such conditions will they be able to enter the land of Israel and begin the correction of their animal nature to human.

Question: Why do they stand beneath the mountain and not climb it?

Answer: So far, they are unable to climb to the top. The mountain hanging over them represents an enormous hatred that divides them, but they don’t feel it completely yet. They understand that they need to climb to the top, but their desires are so small that they remain below the mountain. Therefore, only Moses, being their spiritual representative, climbs the mountain.

The mountain (Har) from the word “Hirurim,” which means “doubts” symbolizes various problems that divide people and they have no idea how to overcome them and rise above them.

Therefore, they tell Moses, “We are afraid to approach the mountain. It burns and buzzes like a volcano that can erupt any minute! It radiates hatred. If the volcano erupts, we will tear each other to pieces. You climb and we will stay here.”

To the extent that the children of Israel correct their egoism, it becomes revealed to them as a mountain of hatred. It will be this way until the end of correction. Love always is attained above hatred.

They begin to feel what they are going for, but they don’t understand it fully yet because a person is only shown the part of egoism that he can correct. How can it be otherwise? Is it possible to entrust a serious job to a child?

Question: But was Moses given an ability to see and feel this?

Answer: Moses is the attribute of absolute bestowal that leads them. Despite the fact that their egoism resists and doesn’t want this, the point in the heart pulls them forward. Even if a person doesn’t really want it, he still rushes upward because the point in the heart is stronger, higher, and lighter than he is.

It says to a person, “If you don’t wish to go with me and you despise my moving forward, you will become worse than an animal.” A person, even out of egoism and out of his pride, can’t agree with it. Therefore, he follows the point in the heart against his will. This is our life.

“You Heard The Sound Of The Words, But Saw No Image”

laitman_740_02Torah, “Deuteronomy,” 4:11 – 4:12: And you approached and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire up to the midst of the heavens, with darkness, a cloud, and opaque darkness. The Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of the words, but saw no image, just a voice.

It is impossible to see the image of the Creator simply because it doesn’t exist.

The Creator is a quality. I don’t like the word “God” because it is threadbare, overused by everyone, and nobody knows what a person means by it. Therefore, in order not to confuse people, I say “the Creator,” i.e., the force that created everything.

“God” sounds like something abstract, and the Creator is something more definite.

It is written, “You heard the sound of the words, but saw no image, just a voice.” A voice is the quality, or the Light that extends from the head to the body of the soul (Partzuf).

In other words there is a special device in the spiritual body that extends the Upper Light to the bottom of the Partzuf through five special parts (throat, palate, gums, teeth, tongue, throat, and lips) that are five special characteristics of the spiritual system. Receiving the upper energy there feels like voice.

The descent of the Light is driven by the qualities of Bina, for Bina symbolizes hearing and a person receives the Light according to his ability to hear.

Question: And then what do the words, sentences, and sounds mean?

Answer: When a person, according to his equivalence to the spiritual guidance, absorbs it in his qualities, it settles in him and is transformed from egoistic qualities to altruistic ones.

It is very difficult to explain spiritual processes and even more difficult to understand them. Therefore, we need to begin studying the Torah seriously and then gradually, to the extent to which a person begins to change, he will understand what “The Great Commentary” and all other authentic sources talk about.

Fear Before The Creator

Laitman_633_4Torah, “Deuteronomy,” 4:09 – 4:10: But beware and watch yourself very well, lest you forget the things that your eyes saw, and lest these things depart from your heart, all the days of your life, and you shall make them known to your children and to your children’s children, the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when the Lord said to me, “Assemble the people for Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.

The fear isn’t a fear of the Creator or of the people, but a fear that I won’t be able to do everything that is required for Him.

Comment: Then why is it said, “They may learn to fear Me all the days that they live on the earth”?

Answer: In this particular case we are talking about animal fear inherent to people. The way a person fears thunder, lightning, wild beasts, robbers, and enemies, in the same way he fears the Creator. But the animal fear can’t be compared in any way to spiritual fear, when you make a calculation not regarding yourself but regarding your attitude to the Creator.

A person who exists in the spiritual world can’t allow himself not to have fear before the Creator. And from the point of view of egoism or some other calculations, this absolutely doesn’t matter to the person and to the Creator. He simply can’t afford any attitude to such a great ideal, other than fear.

The Creator is not a person and not some kind of image, but a model of bestowal, love, and the ability to exit yourself.

Remark: Prior to crossing the spiritual boundary, the Creator is hidden from us. And after the crossing, a person himself starts to hide, like Moses, who hides under the rock all the time. And people perceive this as a fear of the Creator.

Answer: First of all, there shouldn’t be fear of the Creator. The thing is that the Creator doesn’t punish us, but He leads, teaches, and educates us. Being the quality of absolute bestowal and love, the upper quality of nature, He does not seek to do something specifically with each one of us, but with infinite love and affection He constantly shows us how we must change.

If we understand this, we have a very clear, direct, sensitive connection to the Creator, and each time we can specifically correct ourselves in order to come constantly to this state with a better understanding of the higher mission, consciously, and not out of fear.

Question: Is it possible to say that this fear is a fear not to love enough, not to give enough?

Answer: The fact is that it is impossible to describe spiritual qualities in words. Only when a person receives them does he begin to understand what the Torah is talking about, and otherwise it is useless.

And you shall keep [them] and do [them], for that is your wisdom and your understanding in the eyes of the peoples, who will hear all these statutes and say, “Only this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

This commandment suggests that if the people of Israel really begin performing the commandments correctly and carrying out all their actions not for their own sake, but for the sake of bestowal, for the benefit of others, and through them for the Creator, then all the nations of the world, all the properties of nature will come into harmony with each other and the world will come to universal balance.

And seeing the example of a happy life, humanity will say, “How wise and intelligent are these great people!”

Who Will Cross The Jordan?

laitman_740_02Torah, Deuteronomy 3:23 – 3:25: I entreated the Lord at that time, saying, “O Lord God, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand, for who is [like] God in heaven or on earth who can do as Your deeds and Your might? Pray let me cross over and see the good land that is on the other side of the Jordan, this good mountain and the Lebanon.”

Question: Moses had such a difficult path. He led his stiff-necked people out of Egypt and brought them to the land of Israel! Didn’t he deserve the right to enter it?

Answer: When spiritual qualities dress in people, and people speak on their behalf while representing them, it really looks dramatic.

Actually, Moses lives in every person. While going through spiritual states, a person raises a prayer, “Give me strength to continue remaking myself to full equivalence with the Creator in order to see the quality of love.”

But the quality called Moses in a person cannot cross this rubicon, that is, cannot cross the Jordan. The only thing that is within its power is to climb mount Nebo, to look from afar at the land of Israel, to perform a correction through its vision by looking around the entire land of Lebanon to the sands of Sinai, from mount Nebo to the west, and to the sea, and to bless it, meaning to pass all of its qualities to the next state, the next degree.

This way, the quality called Moses, which is in the greatest equivalence with the Creator, completes its work on this degree, and therefore it is said that it dies. The next two forces rise instead of it: Joshua and the people of Israel.

A new generation that was born in the desert under the command of Joshua goes to conquer the land of Israel. So, now it is necessary to begin new ideological problems and clarifications. But Moses has no relationship with it.

A war with the new egoistic level called “the land of Israel” isn’t a simple task. It is necessary to correct, to change, to exhaust, and to kill seven basic qualities, seven so-called nations that live in the land of Israel. Only once this big, ugly, and fat egoistic layer is corrected is it possible to build a temple, a vessel that will be filled in order to bestow.

Question: It turns out that herdsmen were going to the land of Israel, and ploughmen entered it, right?

Answer: Yes, now these qualities behave in a completely different way. They enter an absolutely different type of work, that is, work with the earth and work with the enemies. Nothing can be avoided. It is necessary to plow the land, kill the opponents, settle themselves in a certain order in all of the land, and restore the right laws. This allocation on a new spiritual degree is special, complicated work.

That is why Joshua, who accepted leadership from Moses, is a conqueror, and Moses is a teacher.
