Study Human Nature

281.01Question: How can people who study The Study of the Ten Sefirot with us use this information not just theoretically but practically?

Answer: In principle, it speaks of the development of nature.

Question: But where am I there? Suppose I now learned something new, filled my brain with this information, or maybe I have become smarter, what is next?

Answer: This information explains to me who I am, what humanity is, and how we will be getting out of the current situation.

We can already start thinking. In the meantime, human nature is developing us to a state of recognition of evil, so we try to start getting out of it.

In The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Baal HaSulam is trying to say that we are the creation, we are the will to receive, and therefore, there is nothing to be expected from us. At any moment in time, we want to get something, preferably at the expense of someone. And that is okay.

That is, we must understand our nature, and not go against it. We just need to study how we can change it.

The Main Laws Cannot Be Changed

282.02Comment: In your blog you wrote that a sacrifice is the ability of a person to literally cut off pieces from his desires of the inanimate, vegetative, and animate levels.

The simplest thing is to work with inanimate desires. For example, in the Torah this is described as manufacturing various objects from precious metals. In addition, you mention different categories of all kinds of vegetative and animate desires, which, according to the Torah, are sacrificed.

The last level of desire is human: Cohens, Levites, Israel. This is not clear.

My Response: Everything is measured by whether I do it clearly for the benefit of people or not.

Question: But why is everything coded like that? The Torah is more than 3,000 years old, and most people do not feel that it is necessary to come closer to the Creator by “cutting off pieces of their egoism.” Why is everything so concealed and not said directly?

Answer: Basically it is said directly. But people do not want to admit it.

Question: But it is not clear from the Torah that it is necessary to work with egoism inside a person.

Answer: Why? “Love your neighbor as yourself,” and so on. What is not clear here? The most basic laws are given in a concise and very clear manner. You cannot change them in any way.

Comment: Yes. But when you read all these love stories…

My Response: Indeed, people begin to interpret them in their own way: to some yes, to others no, yes for one thing, no for another. It is all because of our egoism. This is how we turn everything supposedly in our favor.

White Light, Black Desire

151Question: Where did the letters Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey come from? Why are they called the four-letter name of the Creator?

Answer: Because white light draws its image on a black background. The desire is black, the light is white. Thus, an image of the qualities of light is drawn on the quality of desire.

Question: Why is the first letter Yod?

Answer: In general, all this is explained very simply. The quality of light and the quality of darkness are placed opposite each other so that the light depicts itself exactly in this form.

The letter Yod looks like a comma and indicates the beginning of the expansion of the light. The letter Vav is depicted as a wand, which symbolizes the spreading of light from above downward. All Hebrew letters are created in this way.

Who Is the True Hero?

294.3A hero is someone who, by relying on his egoistic nature, builds another person out of himself, that is similar to the Creator.

Imagine that a person, like a worm, is inside a rotten apple and begins to slowly emerge from it. He sticks his head out, sees a wonderful world of giving and love, and comes out of himself into a completely different space, the blue sky and the sun, not the darkness in which he lived. Although he had enough of everything for his body, this world wasn’t there.

And now when he gets out of this rot, he must process it, which means processing all his egoism to bestow to others. And how?! Out of himself, out of his egoism, he builds similarity to the Creator.

He studies the Creator, asks Him to reveal Himself, to show him an example like an adult to a child, and he overcomes his ego as much as he is able to. He uses it not for himself, but for similarity to the Creator. And similarity to the Creator means love for everyone else.

And so in portions: a little more he studies the Creator, a little more he makes himself like Him; a little more he studies the Creator, a little more he makes himself like Him. As a result he sees that all his egoism is intended only to turn this huge, terrible mass into similarity to the Creator, to gain the full quality of bestowal and love for everyone else.

And then he becomes equal to the Creator. That is all. The problem is solved. But it is completely the opposite of how we use egoism in our world. And now we have to start processing it.

Question: At some point in history, a man named Adam realized that there was solid egoism surrounding him. From that moment on, the spiritual system began to unfold as a basis for ascent.

Does it turn out that we could not do without what happened before in order to realize all this selfishness, all this mass?

Answer: We couldn’t. What happened before our time, it should have been so. But from our time onward, we can already act differently.

Inner Meaning of Four Letters of HaVaYaH

548.03The four phases in the desire are the meaning of the four letters… in the four-letter Name HaVaYaH: The tip of the Yod is Ein Sof, meaning the operating force included the thought of creation (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, “Inner Observation,” Chapter 8, Item 31).

The tip of the letter Yod  is the very beginning of creation when there is still no clear desire on its part, but only development on the part of the Creator.

The letter Yod is already the development of desire, the feeling of a certain light inside the desire.

The first Hey is Bina, meaning phase two, regarded as the actualization of the potential.

The difference between Hey and Yod is that the desire created by the light in the first phase begins to feel it exists and regards the light as filling it. This stage is called Bina. It wants to become similar to the light.

The letter Vav means Zeir Anpin or the third phase. This phase is the combination of the first and second phases when both the light of Hochma and the light of Hassadim are inside the desire, and the desire continues to form itself. As a result, it comes to a state where it wants to receive only the light of Hochma.

The last, fourth phase is called Malchut, it is the formed desire. This is creation. We are a part of this Malchut, and therefore we feel ourselves as receiving.

True Creation

548.02Question: In The Study of the Ten Sefirot it is written that after the first stage of the development of the desire, there are still many different actions, worlds, and Partzufim, and only at some stage is creation created. So, Malchut, the fourth degree, is not a creation yet?

Answer: No, it is still an unfinished creation, but it is already a completed desire, and that is why it is called Malchut (the kingdom of desires).

Question: And when can we say that this is a true creation?

Answer: Creation can be called such a state when the desire feels completely opposite to the Creator and can act independently. And before that, all his actions are determined in advance and there is no freewill in them.

That is, potential prerequisites for the development of creation are created first. This can be compared to the genetic code, which contains some information, but it has not yet been revealed. In principle, a real creation is a person who begins to study all this and independently advance.

Comment: But to come to this, one must go a long way.

My Response: Yes, we see this in our world. Which people, our contemporaries, realize who they are, what they are, what for, and how? I mean, this also requires development.

Not a Moment of Peace

549.01Question: When a person turns away from the spiritual path and tries to settle down in life, does the system leave him alone or after some time does it begin to push him with blows?

Answer: Why should he be left alone? Why does he exist in this world?! To get comfortable, like an animal?!

Once upon a time in bourgeois times it was so. Today there is no such thing and it cannot be because all of humanity is moving forward with great speed, and nature will not leave anyone alone. It will push us, pull us by the ears, and slap us on the cheeks—in general, bother us.

How can it be that at such a pace of development that is observed today, we would be left alone?!

Question: Does this mean, as it is said, that there are no former students and they are all connected in some way?

Answer: Yes. But it depends on the speed at which they develop.

A person who comes to study Kabbalah for the first few years does not understand where he is at all because this is his first adaptation to Kabbalah, to feeling, to space, and to the fact that the world is arranged completely differently because everything in me and everything through me, depends on me.

It is very difficult. Therefore, there is no seniority here. A person can sit here for five or even 10 years and be completely unaware of what we are studying. There are some like that.

Light as a Law of Nature

276.02Question: What is light?

Answer: Light is the only force in nature that exists, governs, fills, and animates everything. And the rest of the many forces that we see around us are derived from the light.

Question: How does a person feel the light?

Answer: As all good things.

Question: It turns out that there is light that manifests itself as a law of nature, as a certain force, and there is light that we just feel.

And how do we feel the light manifesting as a force of nature?

Answer: As a great pleasure, fulfillment. The light is felt in such a way that you want to get closer to it or bring it closer to you.

The Methodology of Work in the Heart

559The Kabbalistic methodology is very simple and direct. It says that we should do all the actions described in the Torah in the heart.

People, however, distorted it in a way that they turned it outward: if you perform these actions physically in front of everyone, then you are doing a great job.

Comment: But if I do not understand how to unite our hearts, then from this hopeless state I do it externally by building a temple and sacrificing a lamb.

My Response: Of course, this is the simplest thing.

In fact, you must find this animal in you, uncover it, make sure that it is your egoism, kill it, slaughter it, skin it, burn some pieces, and eat some. You have to understand how to do this.

Question: Is there a method that can explain this to me?

Answer: Of course! It is the method of Kabbalah.
