The Simplicity of the Hard Path

629.3Julia asks:

The Creator is a good screenwriter, in the drama genre. Can we know the ending of the story in advance and influence the course of events?

Answer: We know the ending of the story. It is the complete correction of human nature.

Question: Can we influence the course of these events?

Answer: No, we do not know how we should change or in what order we should correct ourselves. But in general, the path is clear.

Question: Then why is this being done? For example, the way is clear to us—rise above egoism, above our nature, but how to do this is not very clear. Why is all this being done? Point the way, tell us how to get there, and humanity will go accordingly.

Answer: The way is very simple: love your neighbor as yourself and be like the Creator, and so advance.

Question: But this is very difficult. Is it possible? Is a person capable of doing this?

Answer: Yes, we have the strength to ask for it.

Question: So it is on me to exert effort and raise a request, an effort and a request? Only this way?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Do all spiritual practices and all religions come from this phrase? Can I say this or not?

Answer: A person does whatever comes to his mind. But in the end, rising above our ego to love everyone is what is required of us.

Comment: There is this call, by and large, which resonates all the time. And a person, passing it through himself, makes all sorts of angles, spiritual practices, and religions and builds everything.

My Response: He dodges it.

Question: Can I tackle it directly? Is there a straight path to loving your neighbor as yourself?

Answer: No. One would not agree to accept such a commitment directly. A person cannot exist in this. But little by little, I think we will come to this.

Question: Come to live this way?

Answer: Yes.

Question: “Us and the Creator”—such a direct connection?

Answer: Yes.

How Can One Learn Patience?

294.4I asked God to grant me patience. God said, No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn’t granted, it is learned (Claudia Minden Weisz, “And God Said ‘No’”).

Question: How can one learn patience?

Answer: You cannot learn it directly.

Question: How then?

Answer: You learn it from your own life.

Question: So when I keep trying and trying, do I at some point reach a state of “What is happening to me? Do I need to start living differently?”

Answer: No, you just change, and that is all.

Question: Do I change and become more patient?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Do you consider yourself a patient person?

Answer: Today, maybe yes.

Comment: You used to be fiery.

My Response: Yes.

Question: Does it come with experience?

Answer: With experience, with years, with suffering, with old age.

Question: So is it correct that patience is not granted, but learned?

Answer: Yes.

Through a Series of States

919Question: Your teacher Rabash knew all the states that you were going through. Knowing that you had to go through terrible despair, hopelessness, could he not have helped you in any way?

Answer: Did he not go through such states himself? He went through them the same way I am now, the same way my students go through and will go through them.

Every Kabbalist goes through absolutely all states. That is why he can write for us. No soul, starting from our world and up to complete correction, can jump over any state.

Question: You said that Rabash was patient and that you could even yell at him. Was there ever a time when he wanted to kick you out?

Answer: No, he understood everything. Once, after Rabash’s death, I met a friend that earlier had studied together with me at his place. And he told me: “I remember that you once did not want to go to the sea with Rabash as an escort because you were terribly offended and angry about something. And then I went with him.

While at the sea he said: “Let’s call Michael anyway.” I called you and told you that Rabash wants to talk to you. And you answered: “Tell him I don’t want to talk to him.”

I told him what you said and asked: “Why don’t you kick him out?” And Rabash replied: “I’m not kicking Michael out because he has a special soul.”

That is, he understood that I was really in a terrible state and could not behave in any other way, and whatever was going on with me passes. But with this call, he accelerated my spiritual development.

Of course, he saw who I was, what I was: on one hand, a jerk, but on the other hand, I still had a lot of potential, and therefore he tolerated me.

But I was as loyal to him as I could be! Of course, I had very difficult conditions when I was worried, smoked, shouted, and swore. I don’t think I could have behaved any differently today. No.

Links of the Spiritual Chain

961.2Question: How do you learn to recognize that the Creator is clothing on you and what He wants from you?

Answer: This can be felt internally when you work with several levels, higher and lower, you are an adapter between them, and you understand how to make contact with each of them, canceling yourself. Then you represent a thin middle strip between them, which is called a Klipat Noga.

And so does, in principle, each of us. If we communicate with each other correctly, then none of us will have anything but this strip or small dot that glues one level with another.

That is, you must be a completely invisible fastening link in the chain. What does invisible mean? Not violating anything from the previous and subsequent link from you. They cannot be held together without you, and you have to do it. That is the only reason you exist.

And then it turns out that the whole huge organism of souls works ideally when everyone gives everything, everyone does not take up space, and then the place is filled with higher light.

Question: Are you a specific subordinate link in this chain?

Answer: Of course; nothing more.

Question: This chain, including Rabash and Baal HaSulam, goes before you. It does not matter if you exist in physical attire or not, do you still remain in this chain for the entire time until complete correction?

Answer: Absolutely. This cannot change.

If I have connected to Rabash, it is because my soul stands in the hierarchy in a place that determines exactly this connection of mine.

And if certain disciples have come to me, it is because those souls stand in the hierarchy close to me, below me, so that I can conduct a technique on them to the fulfillment that I can receive through Rabash and above from his father, and so on, and so on to the very world of infinity. But this chain is constant, unchangeable.

Separation from the Feeling of the Creator

531.01Question: We evaluate everyone solely by whether they strive for unity. If not, then this methodology is not suitable for us.

But who said that unification is important and the goal of the entire universe? Why not some kind of abstraction, like an out-of-body experience? This is more important for  another person.

Answer: I am not interested in what is more important for the other person. Everyone can make up whatever they want.

We believe Kabbalists, and this faith is confirmed by our knowledge when we follow their path and reveal the upper world.

They tell us that once we were one single whole and then scattered into pieces, meaning egoism tore us apart, separated us from each other, and acts between us as a repelling force.

But we have to cancel this force and reconnect. The moment we do this, we will immediately perceive the next level of the universe, the next world, called the upper, the divine, because it is above egoism.

Then we will already identify ourselves, not with our body, but with our common unified desire, which we have assembled from all the pieces. This common desire is called the soul.

Kabbalists explain to us how to do this and what we feel in the process. As for what comes to different people’s minds, so what can be done? This is where the disunity of humanity once began.

As Maimonides, the great philosopher of the XII century, writes, initially people felt that there is one single force. Initially, this was known to everyone. And then they saw that this force manifests itself through various actions in nature: wind, sun, and so on at the inanimate, animate and vegetative levels.

And people began to come into contact with these forces because they are closer to them than some abstract force called the Creator.

They began to worship the possible signs of nature, even to the point where they began creating idols, building temples, and making offerings. This is how religions and beliefs began to develop.

Thus, people broke away from the feeling of the one Creator, the single force of nature, and unification with Him and fell into the feeling of ordinary animate nature.

Unconscious Existence

537Comment: You once explained that there is a layer of souls that communicate with each other and actually interact on some spiritual level without even realizing it.

My Response: Yes, we do indeed exist on a spiritual level, but we just don’t feel it. Like, for example, a newborn baby who is born in our world, he is registered in all the records, many people are already working for him, supplying him with food, diapers and everything necessary, but he does not feel it.

But he is in this system. The system takes complete care of him, responds to him.

Similarly we are in the spiritual system, but we do not feel it. And the system responds to us and provides everything necessary for our advancement. However, in our case, everything depends only on us, on our desire.

Question: When transitioning to the next phase, does a person perceive the same thing in a completely different way, for example, the same layer of our conversation?

Answer: Of course, differently. He begins to feel the system in which he exists: how it responds to him, how he can influence it, what “he himself” means. He comprehends himself in relation to it.

Yet there is a difference for a person, whether he is an infant, a small child, or an adult.

Comment: Understanding this is a very interesting thing. In my opinion, only Kabbalah allows this to be done.

My Response: When that world, that universe in which we actually exist, is revealed to a person, it is the highest pleasure for him, which fills him infinitely! We are created by this light, this perception, this eternity, perfection, and harmony.

Therefore, today, when we are outside of it, our life represents absolute misery. But for lack of anything better, we are content with this, like a person born in prison does not feel that there could be something else. Try to release him from prison, he will immediately want to go back because he will not be able to orient himself in another world.

The Power of a Kabbalist

961.2Question: Kabbalists have a great, strange power that cannot be described. You say that it is impossible for a person who is not in attainment to feel spirituality, it is impossible to feel bestowal. But a certain energy comes from a Kabbalist.

Is this the energy of bestowal?

Answer: No, this is not spiritual energy. It is not what comes from him, but what you feel.

Comment: But there is a huge number of people, and I do not feel such energy from them.

My Response: Just because you feel something does not mean it is spiritual. You only feel what you feel.

Question: But let’s say you can fulfill a person so much that he will not even ask questions. Does he feel it, perceive it?

Answer: Because next to me he feels confidence, security, perfection, and fulfillment, the question disappears. He can run to me from the other side of the world. He came running with a question. He sat down next to me, the question disappeared. I had the same thing.

It is completely natural. When you find yourself next to a large, relatively great person, you become integrated in him, stick to him, and that is it, you do not need anything, you are already filled.

Question: But is this spiritual fulfillment or not?

Answer: I would call it psychological.

Question: Does it mean that we do not feel spirituality at all?

Answer: Not yet. Where can we do that? Do you already have spiritual intentions above yourself? Not yet. Therefore, everything that is felt is felt as preliminary psychological states.

Expression of Kabbalistic information

235Question: Do you ever have moments when you are surprised that you give out certain information?

Answer: Yes, it happens that I can easily express some information. It is a muse; it is simply a human property.

There are Kabbalists who could do it amazingly. I envy them a lot. After all, if I weren’t a teacher, I would float at my level and would be trying to rise all the time. But since I have to simplify the information I receive to the level of my students, I envy those who have fluent language.

But I was specially given a very difficult and complex Hebrew. I generally do not have a good grasp of languages; I have an absolute inaptitude for them. It’s hard for me in this regard.

Therefore, if I succeed, it is like a birth, like labor pains, when you can finally give out some information. When you feel that it has entered a person, he understands it, and all the information has smoothly jumped out of you like an embryo jumps out along with waters during a successful childbirth, then it certainly gives a lot of pleasure. You are amazed about the extent of it that came from above.

I clearly understand that everything is given from above because with my qualities that I also received from above, I am not capable of expressing my thoughts easily. There are even more problems here. Even if I had this ability, Kabbalistic information is still clothed in more or less convenient forms depending on how much the student needs it.

After all, there are circumstances when there is a need to confuse a student a little, give him an opportunity to unravel the tangle by himself. Then he will start using his brain and will sense that he still lacks his own efforts. Therefore, I not only make my presentation dependent on the lack of an opportunity to present the material normally, but also on the fact that the student does not need a more explicit presentation, he must figure it out himself.

Let’s take The Book of Zohar. It is written in a very confusing language, although it in principle it is close to our style. This is amazing! The book was written 2,000 years ago, but it talks about things that are very easy for us to communicate today. It is interesting. Although it is incomprehensible, its style is close to us.

When I was working on it, adapting it to the modern reader, I practically did not have to do anything special. I translated it from Aramaic to Hebrew, removed various additions, clarifications, references to other sources, outside commentaries, etc. in order to make the text more readable.

Practically, the whole task in Kabbalah is to adapt the spiritual material for the consumers, for the students.

How Can You Focus Yourself on the Creator?

226Comment: You often say that it is worth focusing not on the teacher, but on the Creator.

My Response: Of course; otherwise, you are idol worshiping.

Comment: But I do not know what the Creator is.

My Response: Yes, but the moment you start idolizing some person, kissing his hands, giving him gifts—that’s it! You are already focused on him. Subconsciously, you lock yourself onto him, depend on him, and believe he will secure your future, instead of you yourself.

It already deprives you of choice, freedom of will, and freedom of action. You rely on him, become small, and stop growing. Therefore, Kabbalah forbids this.

Question: But how can we focus on the Creator if we do not feel spirituality?

Answer: You must create Him precisely from disparate manifestations, accidents, and everything that arises in you, from all your friends, and unite all this into one single, maximally possible spiritual force.

Try to gather everything you feel into one force—there is none else besides Him, the good that does good.

Aim all your inner feelings, understanding, what is in your heart and mind, absolutely everything that you see, seem to see, think, only toward one single force—the good who does good; there is none else besides Him. Through His numerous manifestations, He gives you an enormous amount of different information, impressions, sensations, and thoughts so you can gather everything together into one whole.

And then you will reveal Him, for as you make efforts, your soul forms a single vessel within you, an instrument similar to the Creator.

Attitude toward Kabbalists

571.01Question: What does a negative attitude toward Kabbalists lead to?

Answer: A Kabbalist is a person who fulfills the program of creation and wants to harmoniously and integrally connect with nature.

If I hate him, it means that I hate not him, but in general the philosophy of his existence, the purpose of his life. That is, I am the opposite of nature, opposed to it, and I put myself in opposition to the forces of nature.

Naturally, such an attitude will cause the strongest suffering in me. If not now, it will be revealed later anyway. It may seem that I am somehow benefiting from this, but in the end, I will have to pay a very heavy price for everything.

We will see all these calculations that will be presented to people who have hindered the spiritual development of mankind. These are the most terrible corrections that they will have to go through.

Comment: You said a negative attitude is also good. That is, the person is still included in the process and is influenced by the light.

Answer: Indifference is the worst, yes. A negative attitude, assuming it is rational, that makes people look for the reasons why they are against it, is helpful. I know many people who, due to their desire to criticize me, became my students.
