Answers To Your Questions, Part 172

Laitman_032_02Question: Often, you give an example of a drop of semen from which a fetus develops. Human semen is a liquid with sperm within it. Nothing can develop from the sperm. Why give an example that sounds erroneous from a scientific point of view?

Answer: That is because this is precisely the way it sounds in the translation from all the Kabbalistic sources!

Question: When I began to study The Book of Zohar, questions popped up for me regarding the following assertion: the Creator has no desire to receive because He is whole. Does it follow that the Creator does not receive pleasure from filling us with pleasure? In this case, what does “for the sake of the Creator” mean? Is it for the sake of his pleasure? After all, He has no desire to receive.

Answer: Quite true, we cannot say that the Creator receives pleasure from fulfilling the creatures. We say this because we cannot describe these actions and relationships other than in the language of our physical feelings.

Why Are People Lazy?

laitman_564Question from Facebook: Why are people so lazy, not wanting to do anything?

Answer: It is because our ego is exhausted. It doesn’t want anything anymore. All of nature is such that it tends only to rest. And only because there is another law—nature abhors a vacuum—are we forced to yearn for fulfillment.

Fulfillment leads to rest and peace, and peace to the desire to be fulfilled, and so we constantly swing back and forth, like a pendulum.

A completely different principle operates in the wisdom of Kabbalah, according to the law of the middle line: a person constantly needs to be simultaneously empty and full. The mission of Kabbalah is to teach every person to be like this, but we must learn to do this. Being lazy is something very good because you are not harming others that way.

Shavuot: What Is The Oath of the Nation of Israel?

arava-convention_931-01.jpgQuestion from Facebook: I don’t understand a lot of what you say and write, but for some reason, I cannot tear myself away. Would you please explain what the oath is that the nation of Israel gave to the Creator as they stood at Mt Sinai, “We will do and we will hear.” Is this an oath of slaves?

Answer: Actually, it is an oath of slaves. We agree to enslave ourselves to a new principle of existence. We agree to do only that which is beneficial for the society which we, previous slaves of the Pharaoh, are now going to create and become slaves of the Creator. To be slaves of the Pharaoh means to work with an egoistic focus, egoistic desire. To become slaves of the Creator means to work with altruistic desire. Only one of these two can operate within the person. He can either become a conscious slave of the Pharaoh or a slave of the Creator.

Under no circumstances should we think that a slave is something negative. Even now, we are slaves. We are slaves all the time; we just don’t see who is our master. Our master is egoism. It spins us around, and we unconsciously carry out all its orders. It lives in us, constantly forcing us to worry, to think, to do something, and giving us unnecessary goals. And we, by doing all this, burn our lives and achieving nothing.

In reality, to be a slave means to be aware that you exist in nature, that you are controlled by desires and thoughts. You need to understand how these desires and thoughts can be corrected, how to change your master from the Pharaoh to the Creator, and in doing so, you achieve complete freedom, even though you are the slave of the Creator.

This is very interesting and, at the same time, an incomprehensible connection between slavery and freedom. In being a slave of the Creator, you gain freedom because you become a slave of the quality of bestowal and love. You rise above egoism, which no longer limits you in any way, and in this manner, you become free.

Shavuot, the holiday of the giving of the Torah, speaks to the fact that from this moment on, a person becomes free. He begins to acquire his freedom, reclaiming all that was in him under the rule of the Pharaoh and gradually correcting himself, pulling out all his egoistic desires, thoughts, and qualities, and changing them to their opposite, to altruistic.

Standing at Mt. Sinai means that we commit, we want, we are ready for anything, in order to receive the upper Light called Torah—the Light that Reforms reforms us to resemble the Creator. We want to receive it and we are ready for it. This is symbolized by standing at Mt Sinai.

Tremendous hatred and large contradictions are revealed along the way, and thanks to this revelation of all of our negative qualities and characteristics, we are ready to go toward any correction if only to rid ourselves of the ego.

This is the exact moment from which the nation of Israel is born, the moment we take the oath to be slaves of the Creator and we ask Him for this.

What is The Connection Between the Wisdom Of Kabbalah And The Torah?

Laitman_137Question from Facebook: What is the connection between the wisdom of Kabbalah and the Torah? After all, Kabbalah is a science about the universe, its origin, general structure, its movement as a whole, and every detail in particular. How can such a grandiose teaching be based on religious stories and parables?

Answer: Indeed, there is no connection between Kabbalah and the ordinary worldly interpretation of the Torah. After all, in truth, Kabbalah is the hidden, secret part of the Torah because a person cannot reveal it through his own qualities.

But when it reveals itself, a person sees that the Torah changes his senses and leads him to the perception of the upper world—the system of governing our world in order to change a human and through him to change our world, and not just to perform some kind of material actions. This is what the Torah speaks about.

The Torah is divided into the internal part (Kabbalah) and the external part, which talks about the fulfillment of some accepted conventions and actions, which is called “practical Judaism.”

laitman_559Question: We are living in a very difficult but meaningful period. How can a person who aspires for the Creator look calmly at how the herd is destroyed? After all, he values it, pities it, although he himself becomes part of it. Is the only way to seriously influence the absurd is for a seed to fall on the ground when it is young so that it can sprout?

Answer: No one does anything independently. It is the upper force that performs everything in order to bring a person to the recognition of the truth and to get closer to it.

Question: Why do people torture each other and behave violently to animals? Why does the Creator allow such behavior? What is the root of this behavior and what solution do you see to this problem as a Kabbalist?

Ascent In Three Lines

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You say that the task is to ascend above our egoism, as if on a “wave,” while, at the same time, not removing it. Does this mean that the greater the egoism, the greater the power of altruism? Can one not exist without the other? Because the more I receive, the more I can give. Is this the way to ascend to the peak of altruism and bestowal to the Creator?

Answer: Right, the ascent is achieved through three lines: the negative left line, the positive right line, and the perfect middle line. The Creator develops the left line in us, according to what He said: I created the evil inclination (the left line). But I gave you the Torah, (the correcting upper Light), which you attract by way of the group—the right line. It is so that you will correct and transform the evil into good, in the middle line.
