Question: What advice would you give to all the people who are looking for a way to release the kidnapped teenagers now?

Answer: The advice is for just one thing: to connect, to unite. No other action is demanded from us. Connection is the foundation of the nation of Israel that was designated to be as one man with one heart, united in Arvut (mutual guarantee) and love.

As it is written, “All Israel are friends” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This is only about connection and unity.

We recommend holding workshops and discussions in circles, which we have already tested and work well. If we carry out an action of this kind, which leads to connection and unity, and make even a small step toward greater unity and connection, then we will immediately see how everything works out in the nation, family, hospitals, old age homes, and of course, with these wonderful teenagers that everyone is so worried about at present.

The entire situation will change for better; it is in our hands. I am very worried about this tragic event. After all, I have three children of my own. But we know that from antiquity until the present day, the nation of Israel has been targeted by all the nations of the world. And it doesn’t stop. We see how the tension around us keeps growing more and more.

Through our connection, we don’t need to become stronger in order to stand and survive against the enemy and to defeat it with the force of the fist. We won’t need force at all. Only the nation of Israel is able to bring the Upper Light closer to this world, and in this way “He makes peace in His high places, He makes peace for us.”

Thus my prayer at this moment is only for the unity of the nation of Israel. Then we will see the best results.

Question: How can we help the world reach Arvut (mutual guarantee) if it is continuing to sink into theft and corruption day by day?

Answer: The upper force awakens the ego in people, and they act as their ego dictates. There are people who, for example, deliberately are driven to situations where they steal.

According to this example, the Creator shows how corrupt our world is. They simply demonstrate how bad our egoistic nature is: what it does with us, how much they suffer from it themselves, and how much we suffer.

Everyone suffers in the world because it is so egoistic. We waste a fortune on weapons, on hatred. If you look at the Earth from the depths of the universe, how do we look?

We ask why they don’t come to us from other galaxies. But what would they come for? What would they do here if they were so advanced that they could reach us? Viewing our planet from a distance, we look like disgusting cockroaches who hate and eat each other.

We use the intelligence and emotion that we have received for self-destruction. So who would want to come to us?

We must understand our situation and want to correct it. The only way to fix it is Arvut. If we want to accept the law of Arvut, to connect together and help each other, we attract the Light that Reforms. The Creator must be among us; who are we without Him? We are completely dominated by our terrible nature.

Of course, we cannot be responsible for each other. How do you know what will happen to you in the next moment and what you will think? How can I rely on you as a guarantor for my future? This is like a baby who tells me that he will be my guarantor.

If we seriously want Arvut, we need the higher power to be revealed, which will be our guarantor. How does one attract it?

If we try as much as possible, at least in a very small percentage, to become guarantors and want the higher power to be revealed among us and realize the Arvut, then this will happen. This is the first condition.

And we are told: “If you want to be responsible for each other, then you will receive the Torah, the Light that Reforms.” You are not required to be responsible for everything a thousand years in advance or to go to prison in your friend’s place. At the moment you are ready to be responsible for him, the Upper Light will be revealed and you will immediately receive the Torah without delay or pause. This means that the Creator is here as our guarantor.

Therefore from the start, we are told: “When you accept the conditions for Arvut, you will receive the Light that Reforms.” This means that the Creator is with you, only you need to be slightly ahead. And if you want this, you will get it.

Question: Why is the Shavuot holiday called the holiday of the giving of the Torah and not the receiving the Torah?

Answer: The giving of the Torah happens when we reach a deficiency for it. This is speaking about the Light, about giving from Above, not about receiving from below.

A person is not a free man; he is not free as long as he has not received the Torah. And after receiving the Torah, we begin to acquire the characteristic of Bina, freedom. This is freedom from our ego, from the desire to receive. And then it is possible to declare that we are working on receiving the Torah.

But on this day itself, when we are compelled under the pressure of the plagues of Pharaoh and all of the troubles that brought us to Mount Sinai, we agree to accept the mutual guarantee, but sill don’t have a strong enough desire  In the meantime this is only the giving of the Torah, given from Above.

And receiving the Torah begins when we already approach its realization: beginning with the Ohr Hassadim, to bestow for the sake of bestowal, the correction of the desire of Galgalta ve Eynaim on all levels; and after this the correction of the desire of AHP on all levels. When we correct the desire of AHP, this is truly called the receiving of the Torah, for there the Light that Reforms is working with all its power.

Baal HaSulam, “The Arvut” (Mutual Guarantee):  “The Patriarchs observed the whole Torah even before it was given.” This means that because of the exaltedness of their souls, they had the ability to attain all the ways of the Creator.

The patriarchs belonged to the pure vessels, GE (Galgalta ve Eynaim), and therefore did not need the Torah, because the Torah is the Light that corrects the Aviut (thickness) of the desire, and they were not thick but pure. The whole Torah is love and bestowal and they could observe it out of the exaltedness and the purity of their souls.

All the lower vessels, however, could not observe it just like that but needed to be equipped with sufficiently thick desires, which correct themselves by the Light that Reforms and could eventually be detached from it and receive the Torah.

Vessels of Hesed (mercy), Gevura (valor ) and Tifferet (splendor) correct themselves without the Light that Reforms, but are simply adhered to the simple Upper Light out of their purity. They knew all the Torah intuitively, since their vessels let them know about actions of bestowal. But their sons Netzach (eternal) , Hod (glory), and Yesod (foundation), all the other souls that come after them, already belong to the vessels of receiving and are therefore unable to understand, to feel, or to correct themselves by their own understanding and purity.

When the vessels are thicker, they need the Light that Reforms. First they have to reveal the full depth of the thickness of the desire to realize how bad it is on the levels of Egypt and during 400 years.

This is what Abraham asked: “I know that I belong to HGT, to vessels that are already corrected, that we are pure and that we are closer to You, but what about my sons? How will I know that they will inherit the land (of Israel)?”

The Creator answers him: “Don’t worry, they will be in exile and will accumulate all the necessary thickness, and then they will realize that they need to be connected to Me.” Abraham heard that and calmed down. The vessels of bestowal have a natural inclination to the Creator, while the vessels of receiving can only establish some attitude towards the Creator by going through exile that reveals the evil in them.

The method of correction is totally different in vessels of bestowal, in GE, and in vessels of receiving. Fathers and sons are two different levels. The sons are already egoistic as we can see.

Question: Can you explain the meaning of the ten commandments that were given on Mt. Sinai and that should be repeated every day, now, before Shavuot, which symbolizes the giving of the Torah?

Answer:  First of all, the ten commandments symbolize the desires in which we are connected to one another. It is only about connection.

The giving of the Torah takes place at the foot of the mountain only after the people accept the condition of mutual guarantee as one man in one heart. This means that we understand that there is a mountain of our ego above us and that we can ascend this mountain only with one point in the heart. This point is called Moses since it pulls us out of our ego.

Mt. Sinai is enormous, like the tower of Babel and even larger. We are at the bottom of the mountain ready to stand around this mountain of our ego. That is, we agree to connect all the parts of our private egoism into one mountain and not to fear it although it is a mountain of hate. We need to yearn for connection even though the only goal of our ego is to resist connection.

When we connect this way, we demand the revelation of the power of bestowal in our connection. It is because the inclination for connection is the spiritual vessel, the deficiency for mutual bestowal, as it is written, “From the love of the creatures to the love of the Creator.” Thus, we accept the condition of “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”

The first decision to accept the mutual guarantee is on Shavuot. Shavuot is the name of the holiday from the perspective of the vessels as we gradually correct ourselves in the 50 days between Pesach and Shavuot, which are called the counting of the Omer (bundle).

Omer means connections. During these 50 days we collect ourselves as much as we can and clarify what we can correct and what we cannot. After we collect all the deficiencies, on the 50^th day, we decide what we can do with it.

Every day we ask for correction in one of the Sefirot and bless it. On the whole there are 7 x 7 = 49 Sefirot that make up the connection between us: between Malchut and Bina. On the 50^th day we already have our corrected vessel, our connected desire, and we are able to receive the Light that Reforms.

Thus we become one man, one vessel, and instead of the Light that corrects and reforms, the Light enters us as a filling. This is the beginning of receiving of the Torah.

The holiday of the giving of the Torah, Shavuot, symbolizes all that. It is a very important, great, and special holiday. There isn’t a more joyful holiday for Israel than the day of receiving of the Torah.

But people don’t regard this holiday as importantly as they should; they only know that it’s customary to eat dairy products. This holiday is also called the holiday of harvest, the first harvest. The Creator gives us the Torah just like cows give us milk.

But the nation of Israel living in the land of Israel, as a corporeal branch of the spiritual root, must understand the true meaning of the giving of the Torah. There is no greater holiday. Of course the exodus from Egypt is the starting point, but all this is the preparation for receiving the Torah.

It makes no difference that we received the first two stone tablets with the ten commandments and that we broke them. It is through this that the sparks of Torah penetrate our vessels because these vessels are still mixed with the vessels of the Egyptians, and so we make the golden calf. Later we receive the second tablets on Yom Kippur, and after the holidays, we reach Purim. This is how the year ends. Let’s hope that we can at least start this process that will be completed only at the end of correction.

My Comment: Although opposite to its course, the correct decision can be accepted only when it is viewed objectively. This is possible only in a workshop which is organized according to the principles of integral education, in a circle where people are equal and cancel themselves. They must be ready for full connection for the sake of revealing unity (the Upper Force) within it, adhering to the Upper Force through similarity of properties (mutual bestowal) in order to create contentment in it.

Question: What does it mean to be responsible for everyone else?

Answer: There are simple formulas in which all parameters and the relationships between them are known and there is only one unknown, for example: x + 3 = 5.

In that case it is easy to calculate the unknown: x = 5 – 3 = 2.

But how can we solve an equation in which there are two unknowns y + x = 5? We need another equation, but we don’t have one. I get such a result at the output of a certain system and I have to know how it works, with what parameters. It can be whatever you want 4 + 1, 1 + 4, positive parameters or negative ones, but the final result is 5, and I cannot determine them.

This is the result we come out with. We have a group in which there are seven billion people and there should be harmony among them, perfect unity, which means 1.

How can we reach that? I can only say that this one depends on me and all the other seven billion are in a fixed state. I am the only one who changes; I am not constant. I am responsible, I am independent, I work for everyone, and the whole world is inside me.

I determine the general state for everyone and am responsible for it to the extent that I can take upon myself the responsibility for the whole world. I am independent and can tilt the scale for better or for worse.

Baal HaSulam, “The Arvut” (Mutual Guarantee), Item 18: Therefore, the Tana (Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai) described the Arvut as two people in a boat, when one of them began to drill a hole in the boat. This means that they are already connected and are in one vessel, in a boat, which is already a spiritual level of connection, but still there is a problem, a malfunction in their connection.

“His friend asked, “Why are you drilling?” He replied, “What business is it of yours? I am drilling under me, not under you.”

If he had understood and felt that he is in a collective vessel, then everything would have been fine. And yet once he was  attracted to it and he had built the collective boat with everyone, but now an additional evil inclination has been revealed in him and he doesn’t feel that he is in one vessel and that he is connected to the others. He thinks that he is by himself and doesn’t care what the others do. It is as if he is on a day off, free of the whole business of mutual guarantee. This happens to each and everyone.

So he replied, “Fool! We will both drown together!” He doesn’t just leave the group, but also drowns it since he is also incorporated in the connection.

From this we learn that since those rebels wallow in self-love, by their actions they build an iron wall that prevents the observers of the Torah from even beginning to fully keep the Torah and Mitzvot in the measure of “Love thy friend as thyself,” which is the ladder for reaching Dvekut (adhesion) with Him.

Since we are all incorporated in one another and depend on one another, then of course if someone leaves, he corrupts the whole structure. We cannot glue a patch on the side of the boat instead of him. After all, he is connected to everyone and is incorporated with everyone. Therefore, it is a great problem if someone leaves or even if he is temporarily not connected to the group.

He is severely punished for the harm he has caused to all the friends that he has left, for each and everyone. One should be very careful about the general incorporation.

If you come to the lesson and you sleep, it means that you don’t add your intentions. This isn’t a serious transgression as yet, and it does happen sometimes. However, there are much more serious transgressions.

Question: It turns out that I depend upon everyone and anyone can make a hole in our common boat? This is a serious problem!

Answer: What did you think? This is called mutual guarantee. You sign guarantees for everyone and everyone signs for you, all of those who are in mutual guarantee.

You make a hole, and then correct it. After that, you make a hole again and repair it again. This is our work in strengthening and maintaing the boat.

Since our boat is at sea, water enters into it through some openings, or the waves are high and they enter over the sides of the boat. And we must work constantly to get this water out. All of this happens with any ship. Even though it seems that the ship is quite tight, there is always seepage of water through some openings in the body of the ship.

Question: What does it mean that I fall into narcissism throughout the day? How am I making a hole in the boat?

Answer: You simply forget about your mutual connection with the friends, you stop being concerned about it, scrutinizing and praying for it, meaning for the friends. You don’t yourself exist; you are a result of what happens with them. This is called guarantee.
