What Led To The Creation Of Matter?

laitman_746.02Question: What led to the creation of matter in the spiritual world 14 billion years ago? And why have observers of this matter, able to comprehend the spiritual world, appear only relatively recently?

Answer: The gradual descent of the upper forces to the level of their materialization led to the creation of matter. Then they underwent various states in the material world, starting from the first burst of Light until our current level. Now we are already in the phase of ascent to the upper world through to the three lines.

Invaluable One Thousandth Of Desire

laitman_239Question: Kabbalists write that eventually all the people must come to the revelation of the upper force. But, at the same time, the wisdom of Kabbalah awakens fear and rejection in many people. What causes this obstacle that has been accompanying the path of Kabbalah for thousands of years?

Answer: This obstacle is in a person’s nature; one’s egoism does not tolerate the wisdom of Kabbalah; in fact, it is death for it. A person should come to Kabbalah out of despair and the inability to answer the question “What is the meaning of my life?” He feels he must solve this question and without it there is no life.

Question: Does it mean that if a person would accept Kabbalah easily and joyfully, he would never require the upper force and could not exit his egoistic nature? Is this why one has a negative attitude to Kabbalah?

Answer: If the study of Kabbalah was beneficial to a person’s egoism, of course, he would not protest against it. All our pursuits in this world, such as science, education, culture, and religion are aimed at fulfilling our egoism.

We develop all these areas based on our egoism, and therefore, they do not cause any resistance. Some are engaged in one area, others in another one, but each one understands that there is a place for everything.

Whereas, the wisdom of Kabbalah is contrary to everything because it is opposite to human nature! It says that we need to cross out this person we see in the mirror, that is, ourselves, and to build the complete opposite in its place.

Question: But people do not know all this. A person gives all sorts of other reasons when he is criticizing Kabbalah. Where does this hatred come from?

Answer: The hatred arises subconsciously. It does not matter that a person does not understand, he feels rejection subconsciously, the way anti-Semitism exists subconsciously throughout all generations.

A person subconsciously feels that there is a confrontation between our egoism and Kabbalah within the general system. As soon as he hears about Kabbalah, the protective mechanism within him begins to work, forcing him to avoid it because it threatens egoism.

Question: Then why are there people who aspire to Kabbalah and want to study it?

Answer: It is because they are awakened by the general system. In every person, along with great egoism, there also is one percent or even a fraction of a percent of the desire that aspires to the upper system that controls our life. This system is called the Creator, the upper nature.

If this one thousandth of the desire begins to shine, if the spiritual spark is ignited in a person, then he is ready to give up everything in order to increase it and to look at the world through it. After all, he sees that the remaining 99% that belong to his egoism will bury him; in other words, he will end his life the way he started it.

Generation after generation, one reincarnation after another, go by without any benefit. Gradually this question arises in a person, and more and more people begin to search for the meaning of life.

Day And Night In Spirituality

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the change of day into night and vice versa? What parallel phenomena are there in spirituality?

Answer: There is not day or night in spirituality. The spreading of the Light in the desire is called day and the exit of the Light from the desire is called evening or night.

Question: And what about the cycles, like the cycle of the day, for example?

Answer: There are cycles in spirituality but on different dimensions, in other concepts. A person who enters the spiritual world undergoes an upgrading to different concepts and there is a totally different definition to the concept of “day,” “night,” “time,” “I,” and “peace.” All the definitions totally change, transform, and take on a new shape, a rebirth.

The Principle Of The Influence Of The Book Of Zohar

laitman_526Question: According to what I understand, reading The Book of Zohar without understanding its content is not a scientific approach; the Reforming Light is a new phenomenon that has not yet been discovered by science. How does the mechanism of the influence of the Light work?

Answer: I can say only one thing: modern science and higher modern science are not prepared to discover the principle according to which The Book of Zohar operates. It is truly an unscientific approach and I confirm this as a scientist.

Science in our world works within the five physical senses; therefore, it cannot be involved with what is found outside of them. We perceive only what enters into our senses, and what is outside of them is as if nothing exists for us. But there is a vast world that we are not aware of and don’t feel because we were created in such a way that we are not prepared to feel it.

The Book of Zohar is involved with expanding the absorption of our senses and makes it possible for us to perceive additional information that we call the upper world.

This is not science, I agree. I was also involved with science in my first professional biocybernetics, and so I understand what you are talking about.

But like The Book of Zohar, the wisdom of Kabbalah also says from the start that it is a different science. If in ordinary science we are involved in an attempt to discover the world around us, so the wisdom of Kabbalah opens inner abilities in us and we perceive the world around us more deeply and wider.

In other words, there is a science that determines the characteristics of a person within which are found what he perceives and investigates. And there is a science that is the wisdom of Kabbalah, which develops the characteristics of the person and investigates what is perceived in the extended characteristics.

How Are Spiritual Laws Revealed?

3Question: You say that Kabbalah studies the laws of nature. Does this mean that we look at nature and mimic it?

Answer: This is not the nature that we study as natural sciences like botany, zoology, etc.

Kabbalists investigate the relationship between all parts of nature, ours and that which is hidden from us, in its absolutely complete integral state. This is the subject of the study of Kabbalah.

The main thing is that we include in ourselves, our abilities to attain. And afterward, we begin to see that only as we improve our organs of perception, when we make them also infinite and perfect, it becomes possible to feel and understand nature and the Creator.

Spiritual laws are revealed in us to the extent that we can be in the quality of bestowal and love, in the quality above our own egotistic nature because we have developed the corresponding sensory organs.

Question: And before that, we can only hear that they exist?

Answer: We can read about this, but we do not understand what we are reading about.

Question: Do we have to believe in the existence of such laws?

Answer: There is no need to believe in anything. We must open our senses, raise them to the level of the quality of bestowal. Then, we will be able to explore the higher nature.

Nature is divided into two parts. One of them, the lowest or selfish nature of our world, works on the property of receiving. In this part we can comprehend all the laws of the still, vegetative, animate, and human nature functioning at the level of the material world.

But, in addition, there is the nature of the next, upper world, which works inversely like a mirror image, to bestow, not to receive.

Why Do We Have To Know The Laws Of The Upper World?

laitman_567_04Comment: It is unfortunate that the science of Kabbalah cannot explain to us the laws of the upper world. There are over two hundred physical laws of the corporeal world that are revealed and beautifully described.

My Response: These laws are described because a person has revealed them, being in the same qualities. That is the only reason he came to perceive and attain them. If a person lacks spiritual qualities, he cannot do anything but listen to what the Kabbalists tell him.

For example, if I have a cat, a dog, a goat or a cow at home, can I possibly explain to them the laws of physics? I cannot. In order to do that, they have to rise to the level of a human and develop certain qualities that in turn would allow them to feel and reveal these laws of nature.

Two thousand years ago we didn’t know what we know today because our egoism is constantly developing, which allows us to reveal new dependencies in it.

Comment: But the goat or cow are not required to know the laws of the material world. We, the Kabbalists, write that we must know the laws of the upper world.

My Response: We have to know because this helps us ascend to the level of being able to influence our fate.

Question: Then why don’t we have any predisposing factors to it?

Answer: Because it is precisely through attaining your true self and tuning in to perceive the spiritual laws that you develop these factors in just the right way. If you were just to receive them, you would be called an “angel,” meaning, would exist in them from the start, but then you’d be like a goat or a cow.

A First Book On The Wisdom Of Kabbalah

laitman_262Question: I am studying the wisdom of Kabbalah in the fundamentals course. Which book should I read first?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah was revealed and developed in two directions, one is the intellect and the second is in feeling.

A person is a sensory creature because the desire for fulfillment, for enjoyment is the foundation his being. But when this desire begins to feel that it wants more, wants less, receives less, receives more, and so forth, then the intellect develops within it with the function to think about how to reach the best fulfillment. It follows that there are feelings and there is the intellect, but the feelings are primary and the intellect is secondary.

Studying the wisdom of Kabbalah happens the same way, in two parallel ways: emotional and intellectual. The books that correspond to the emotional way are Shamati and Attaining the Worlds Beyond. And for the intellectual way there is Kabbalah for Beginners.

I believe that it is necessary to try both of them. Read the book that is closest to you.

Don’t Mix Different Methods

laitman_259_01Question: What brought me to the Bnei Baruch Kabbalah Education Center was the study of numerology, tarot, and gematria (of letters and words), which I believed were derivatives of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

But as it turned out, all these are not considered part of the wisdom of Kabbalah. Should I develop my pervious hobbies or is it better to totally leave them and fully focus on working in the group and on the study?

Answer: I cannot tell you what to do. A person chooses his engagements by himself. According to the wisdom of Kabbalah: “There is no coercion in spirituality,” and this is the reason that we don’t try to persuade anyone to join us, but simply offer the method and explain it. Those who join us study according to this method and they can engage in any other method in other places.

Personally I strongly advise not to mix different methods, not to confuse them, and not to try to complement one with the other. If you do, you will find neither the beginning nor the end of it, and eventually will feel greatly confused physically, morally, and spiritually. Therefore, focus on one thing and engage only in that.

If the method you have chose doesn’t satisfy you, you can leave and go wherever you wish, but you should study and engage in one thing only. No good will come from mixing different methods because by not knowing one method or the other, you will not be able to assess the height of one method from the height of another. It will not work.

Characteristics Of The Creator

laitman_567.01Question: What are the Creator’s properties such as power, pride, goodness, and kindness?

Answer: In relation to us, the Creator is the single property of absolute bestowal and love that is revealed in different ways. All of our characteristics arise and are developed under the influence of the upper Light. These characteristics don’t exist in the Creator. But when we attain Him, we attribute them to Him.

In relation to us, the Creator is absolute and the complete opposite of us.

Our main and only characteristic is a desire to receive, to have all kinds of needs that are awakened in us fulfilled, as if we lacked something, while the Creator has absolutely everything. Moreover, He doesn’t feel any lack, on the contrary, He is the absolute desire to bestow, to fulfill.

Even if He has a need, it is only a need to bestow, to fulfill. Like a mother who is constantly concerned about her child, constantly wanting to give him something, to help him with something, to fulfill something, that is how it is with the Creator in relation to us. This feeling is revealed in us when we attain Him.

Therefore, it is possible to say that He has a need to “pour Himself out” and cannot. From our side, we are the opposite; we want to receive and don’t know how, from whom, and in what manner. Therefore, there is a problem in creating contact between our desire to be fulfilled and the desire of the Creator to fulfill us.

This contact is possible only if our desires to be fulfilled is directed toward giving Him contentment and causing Him pleasure, just as His desire to fulfill us arouses pleasure in us.

So, it is up to us to correct ourselves. But this is not the correction of desire, for it must be as great as possible; it is the intention—fulfilling the desire for pleasure not for my sake but to give pleasure to the Creator.

In this case, the idea is not even about desires and intentions; rather, it is the manner in which we achieve resemblance to the Creator as the result of our correction. Then we rise to the level of the Creator and continue with our development beginning from this level. And regarding what happens later, we will talk about it when we attain it. This is talking about a completely different substance and completely different circumstances.

But even the beginning of the movement toward the Creator, from the first point upward, gives us a feeling of eternity, infinity, and absolute wholeness.

What Determines The Transience Of Time?

laitman_764.3Question: Does the speed of time depend upon the age of the person? Why during childhood is it immeasurable, but in adulthood it just goes along by minutes?

Answer: It seems to us that time is objective, but in fact it is absolutely subjective, especially in regard to children. I remember when I was a child and I asked to play in the yard, my mother would say to me: “No more than an hour.” “An hour! That was an eternity!” And when I came home, she would ask: “Why were you gone for four hours?!” That is, I was living in a different continuum.

Question: Why does time pass quickly for some people, while for others it passes slowly?

Answer: It depends on desire. If the desire matches my actions, then time passes rapidly because I am enjoying it. When I am happy, time flies, as in the song, “Hours of love run; they are shorter than minutes.”

Question: What does it mean that the ego stretches time in our world?

Answer: In principle, it is not egoism that stretches time, but the Klipa (Shell), and it works so that we will pay more intention to time and not its essence.
