The Book Of Zohar – Open It, Read It, Try It

laitman_527.05Question: Are there restrictions for studying The Book of Zohar?

Answer: In our time there are no limitations for studying The Book of Zohar. It is possible to study it in any condition, in every combination, at every age.

The main thing is to open it, read it, and try to learn from it. It is desirable that the study be done through our lessons because that way there is no danger that you will become confused.

Comment: But Baal HaSulam wrote that there are three limitations that must not be violated when studying the wisdom of Kabbalah: substance, the form of the substance, and abstract form and essence.

Answer: The limitations are not about reading The Book of Zohar but about the perception of reality, meaning in what manner we must limit, connect, and shape ourselves, to direct ourselves precisely toward feeling the upper world. For this, there is a defined system of direction for us to the upper world.

The upper world is a world of forces, a world that must be copied, a world of bestowal. To the same degree that we resemble it, meaning to the degree that we are with the characteristics of bestowal, love, and connection, to that degree we begin to discover it.

The Book Is A Guide

Laitman_137Question: They say that Kabbalistic books have a special power? What is this power?

Answer: Both of my parents were doctors. There was a big guest room full of bookcases in the center of the house where I grew up.
As I grew, I was able to take books from the higher shelves. This is how I read everything, shelf after shelf, book after book, and developed in this way.

I see in my grandchildren that today there is no such craving for books. Such an approach to books has disappeared from the world. Even I, a representative of the older generation and accustomed to books, lately, more and more often, read texts from the computer screen.

However, I am not really upset by the fact that books may disappear from this world. After all, I think that the world is coming into big changes and that we are approaching the notion of a “spiritual book” and not a material one that is printed on paper.

The volumes that we buy, leaf through, hold in our hands, and read are not really books. A book means revelation. By reading a text, I must reveal its inner meaning, its secret code, so that the book can begin to play within me. I should become a screen on which I reveal the inner essence of the world.

This means that a book is not pages with symbols printed on them. A book is a code written in letters and conveying through them an upper wisdom, a secret knowledge of the world, unfolding within a person. Then a person turns into a book, into a story, into this place where the knowledge that the writer wanted to convey is revealed.

Therefore, I do not worry that material books are being replaced by electronic ones. For me, as a Kabbalist, the concept of a book is a message conveyed to a person by a sage who revealed the inner essence of the world.

The sage passes information about the upper world through special symbols: the 27 letters of the [Hebrew] alphabet. With the help of these letters, a person begins to decipher within himself the entire cipher passed to him by a writer. However, this only pertains to Kabbalistic books.

Lately, our world is undergoing a big transformation because it has to rise to a higher degree, from the animalistic level to the human one, where we will begin to feel the real world in which we live. Physicists and other scientists are already talking about this. Therefore, the usual books that we are accustomed to will gradually disappear and soon we will begin to reveal the world within us; precisely this revelation we will call “a book.”

The form of a book is not important—whether it is paper or electronic—the main thing is where it is revealed. A book is revealed within a person. He reads a written text, but a book begins to sound in him, to draw in him forms and pictures of the other world.

Question: When I read a normal book—a novel, for example—I am also impressed, imagine to myself various pictures, and see myself instead of the character in the book. How is the reading of Kabbalistic books different?

Answer: Kabbalistic books are different because we see characters from another world in them. This is the difference between regular and holy books. “Holy” means “separate,” that is, through the reading of it, we begin to feel reality, which is separate from our world.

Gradually everyone, without exception, will have to move to this upper reality, to the new dimension. The guide that takes us to the new reality is called a book.

A book is not a cover with sheets of paper but an inner revelation within a person. We just need to know how to read it!

Correct Study Of The Book Of Zohar

Laitman_065Question: For me, The Book of Zohar is very difficult to comprehend. There are parts that I read again and again, but in spite of that, they remain incomprehensible. How does one overcome them?

Answer: You must read what we are studying. It is preferable to connect to the lessons. It could be that it is difficult for a person to read by himself, so it is preferable for him to hear and grasp everything by closing his eyes. I advise proceeding in a way that is comfortable for you. You must put yourself under the influence of The Book of Zohar in any condition; it is not important which.

Question: Baal HaSulam wrote that before we study The Book of Zohar, we need to study the four introductions he wrote. What do you suggest?

Answer: I would suggest that you immediately immerse yourself in The Book of Zohar, after a person browses through The Book of Zohar once, he will be able to begin to study the theory, meaning the “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah” and the rest of the prefaces, and then he can already work on The Book of Zohar seriously.

A Person Is The Enemy Of His Personal Time

laitman_739Question: When is time a person’s enemy?

Answer: Time is not a person’s enemy; the person is the enemy of his own time.

Within a person is a device through which he determines time from zero to infinity at any speed. Time is variable. Even physicists say this, but just not in our coordinates.

The wisdom of Kabbalah differs from quantum physics and other exact sciences in that it brings a person into a space where he is outside of time, where he can change himself in his own axes of freedom. But to do this, it is necessary to acquire tools (Kelim), other senses of perception.

Why Is The Soul Made Of Ten Sefirot?

laitman_610_1Question: Why is the soul made of or does it have to be made of ten Sefirot?

Answer: Because according to the physical spreading of the Light unto the desire, there cannot be a complete action if the Light does not go through the ten Sefirot and does not attain the last tenth Sefira, the tenth.

In it the Light finds the desire that is right for it, which means the right attribute that catches the Light and receives it inside.

Following Kabbalists’ Advice

Laitman_165Question: What does “principle” mean in spirituality? Is it a law? And what will happen if I don’t follow a certain principle?

Answer: All the principles that we have from the wishes and advice of Kabbalists are intended only to help us focus ourselves correctly on the feeling of the upper world. Therefore, if we follow their advice, we will begin to perceive and to attain the upper world, which is the main thing and everything else is up to you.

Many Kabbalah students are stubborn and don’t want to change anything internally. They don’t want to change their paradigm of the perception of the world. Therefore, keep running into a wall when studying this wisdom and cannot do anything.

Question: I understand what will happen in our world if I ignore the law of gravity, but what will happen if I don’t keep or follow a law or a principle that is in The Book of Zohar?

Answer: If you don’t keep a law of the upper world, you will not feel it.

Question: Is this the worst thing that can happen?

Answer: It can be much worse because our entire development in this world is aimed at pushing us to further development: to the perception of the upper world. If we don’t do this, we will develop by terribly painful afflictions.

Who Broke The Soul?

Laitman_702.02Question: There is only the Creator and the created being in the system, so who broke the general soul?

Answer: The Creator, He said: “I have created the evil inclination; I have created the Torah as a spice, since the Light in it reforms.” “Correct the breaking and you will receive a reward. I have created you small and you can reach My level, eternity, perfection, knowledge, and pleasure. Everything is before you!”

The Creator could have created us in the state of wholeness. But we are required to want to attain this level by ourselves so that we will use our free will.

Question: And what do we gain from our free will?

Answer: It will give us a feeling of attainment, revelation, and filling. It is all me!

Imagine a person who was born a prince, compared to a person who has attained the status himself and has become a king. That is the whole difference.

Evolution And The Spiritual Space

226Question: Why does our evolution take place outside of spiritual space?

Answer: Nothing takes place outside of the spiritual space. We simply say that historical development seemingly takes place in our world. What does it mean in our world? It is all in spirituality. Our world doesn’t exist. It is a conditional division.

There is only one creation and everything exists in it. There is no artificial division between the worlds by any partitions. We are the ones who divide everything into parts as a result of our limited attainments and possibilities because all the limitations are inside us.
