Spiritual Disturbances

528.04Question: Is it possible to overcome all the obstacles on a spiritual level, within the group, rather than on a physical level?

Answer: Yes, if we try hard to mentally bring the entire world into the group and resolve all global, personal, and any other issues specifically within the group, within the ten, in the HaVaYaH, where the Creator should be revealed. He is present there, albeit in a concealed form.

Question: What are spiritual disturbances?

Answer: Spiritual disturbances are the disturbances that arise in our connection with friends and in the collective connection with the Creator. There are no other disturbances. All the intimidating names of evil angels and other objects or phenomena represent qualities that drive us apart, but through which we establish correct relationships with each other.

Weeds Are Egoistic Desires

258Question: What are “weeds” in our desire, and how can we identify them if we’re egoists?

Answer: “Weeds” are egoistic desires that you try to use for spiritual purposes.

Question: But as an egoist, I don’t realize how this affects others. How do I gain the ability to see these weeds as harmful?

Answer: Because you are in a ten supported by the group’s collective opinion and by the entire world Kli this creates the conditions within you to perceive reality in this way.

Question: Does that mean friends should point out what in me are weeds?

Answer: They are already pointing it out. All your negative thoughts about the group, yourself, the Creator, and advancement all come to you from spirituality.

Individual and Collective Desire

628.2Question: How does one let go of the past desire to receive? Is this something individual for each person or is it shared within the whole ten when we are united?

Answer: Essentially it is individual for each person. However, at various stages of correction, we unite and collectively receive certain desires, intentions, and opportunities from the Creator.

Question: If I cannot do anything on my own, can I pray to the Creator to give the ten the right desire, and then I, too, will receive it together with them?

Answer: Absolutely correct! We can do this, and it will indeed lead us to connection between us and with the Creator, with the purpose of creation.

Sense the Creator

947Question: How can we practically take off the “white gloves,” meaning leave the artificial demonstration of good-hearted relations?

Answer: Removal of the “white gloves” should be slow, conscious, and only to the degree that you can control your states and circumstances.

When you control your states, you can allow some negative thoughts and feelings in relation to your friends, but at the same time you understand that the Creator triggers them on purpose, otherwise they would not appear.

We are not doing anything on our own. Even if we think that we are doing something, it only seems to us that way. The Creator is doing everything—there is none else besides Him.

When I let myself go a little this way and feel my bad relations with my friends in the group, I begin to understand that it is given to me to rise. It means I do not deny, cancel, or conceal my bad thoughts and feelings about my friends, but rather rise above them in spite of my current thoughts about my friends.

Overall, I feel that my attitudes to them are correct. What else can I do? This is why despite the fact that they are correct I want to be above them and control them this way.

It means you control the left line when you slightly unveil your egoism and allow yourself to feel the criticism toward your friends. At the same time, you are building the right line within yourself when you turn to the Creator and ask Him to give you the power to rise above this criticism. Thus you have two lines. This is already the beginning of creation of the soul that you will have to build. It is not even you, but rather the Creator when you ask Him.

Therefore, it is a good thing that you have always treated each other “with gloves.” However, it might be time to start taking them carefully off. When you do it consciously, by allowing negative thoughts you will feel as the owner of your state from both the negative and the positive sides.

You will see that your good state and your bad state are not yours, they come from the Creator. Also, the decisions to make bad and good states are not yours either. They also come from the Creator. And after that between these bad and good states and thoughts you will sense the Creator Himself.

The Equivalence of the Path and Goal

032.01Question: Is the path or the goal more important in spiritual work?

Answer: I would say they are equal. I must treat every step on the path with the same respect and value as the final goal.

Question: What is more critical: the effort in the ten or the correct way to learn?

Answer: No one can tell you about the correct way to learn. As for the effort, you should feel that you are making it against your egoism, against your desire.

The Screen of the Ten

938.03Question: What is the screen of the ten, and how can it be increased?

Answer: The screen of the ten is the organ that Kabbalists wish to create among themselves to sense the Creator. Within it, they reveal the connection between themselves and the Creator, and in this way, they can advance.

Weeding Desires

243.01When he came to Sulam Tzor and saw them engaged in weeding at the time of weeding, and in hoeing at the time of hoeing, he said, ‘I wish I had a part in this land.’ The Creator told him, ‘Unto your seed will I give this land’’ (Rabash, Assorted Notes 344, “Go Forth”).

Question: What does “weeding desires” mean in our work? Since we can’t destroy them.

Answer: We cannot destroy desires, nor should we. On the contrary, we need to cultivate them so that they resemble the Creator’s qualities, meaning we should rid ourselves of bad, egoistic desires by transforming them into altruistic qualities—into qualities of bestowal and love.

It is essential to engage in weeding, because when you plant certain crops, weeds inevitably grow around them, which must be pulled out and discarded. We need to do the same with our desires.

Question: Should the ten work together to identify what “weeds” exist in our desires and accordingly weed them out?

Answer: Yes, this can be done together.

Incorporate in Others

528.03Question: How does the transition from individual inner work to inner work with the ten happen?

Answer: A person begins to feel that they do not exist independently. They exist only as an elementary particle without the right to spiritual existence, which is above egoism.

To be above egoism means to include oneself in others who were specifically created as if they were outside of oneself, through the shattering of the single Kli, so that a person can cultivate within themselves the quality of moving from an egoistic self to altruistic qualities. This is the essence of our methodology.

Through Kindhearted Relationships

938.01Question: For the past two years, we have met daily in our group of ten, read primary sources, attended lessons, and attracted the light. Yet it does not feel like we have become closer. We continue working, everyone has the right attitude, but there is no sense of closeness.

Answer: What kind of closeness would you like?

Comment: I want to genuinely think about my friends all day, to care about their progress and participation.

My Response: So what is stopping you from thinking about them, caring for them, and focusing on them instead of yourself?

Comment: I am waiting for this feeling to arise naturally within me so that I start caring about my friends instead of myself.

My Response: Then start! Or do you want this feeling to come to you on its own? Do you expect a good inclination toward others to suddenly appear?

The thing is, through your kindhearted, collective work in your ten—when you strive to support each other, embrace one another, and do everything possible—only negative emotions will likely arise between you.

Question: So I should not wait for something to change, for me to start being drawn to my friends?

Answer: No! Do not wait to feel drawn to them. Why would you? Your egoism should start revealing itself. What are you waiting for? To suddenly become a good person? There is no angel within you—only a serpent.

Therefore, expect that good work with your friends will bring up utmost difficult feelings. But these feelings will ultimately compel you to unite with your friends, leading you to ask the Creator for the quality of connection between you. In that connection, you will reveal Him and finally begin to sense the upper world.
